Introduction: The achievement of the Objectives of Sustainable Development is based, among others, on the consolidation of the scientific communities required for study and social intervention. Objective: This study characterizes the training, production and scientific impact of researchers specializing in environmental psychology in Colombia, based on the National System of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Colombia. Materials and methods: The products registered on the Colciencias platform (now the Colombian Ministry of Sciences) were retrieved through structured information searches; Based on these, the profiles of 36 researchers were identified. Results: Researchers' graduate academic background is diverse and focuses on education, social sciences, and psychology; however, most of their dissertations are not in these fields. About academic publications, the research specialization index shows low participation of environmental psychology in total publications, as well as a small general impact, according to the H specialized index (1, 2, and no calculation in 99 % of cases). It is possible to identify a recurrent group of researchers in all the estimations. Conclusions: Results are discussed considering the institutionalization of environmental psychology in Colombia through interdisciplinary relations, emphasizing environmental education.
