2. Ensemble Squared: A Meta AutoML System

Abstract

There are currently many barriers that prevent non-experts from exploiting machine learning solutions ranging from the lack of intuition on statistical learning techniques to the trickiness of hyperparameter tuning. Such barriers have led to an explosion of interest in automated machine learning (AutoML), whereby an off-the-shelf system can take care of many of the steps for end-users without the need for expertise in machine learning. This paper presents Ensemble Squared (Ensemble$^2$), an AutoML system that ensembles the results of state-of-the-art open-source AutoML systems. Ensemble$^2$ exploits the diversity of existing AutoML systems by leveraging the differences in their model search space and heuristics. Empirically, we show that diversity of each AutoML system is sufficient to justify ensembling at the AutoML system level. In demonstrating this, we also establish new state-of-the-art AutoML results on the OpenML tabular classification benchmark.

4. Collective Coordinate Descriptions of Magnetic Domain Wall Motion in Perpendicularly Magnetized Nanostructures under the Application of In-plane Fields

Abstract

Manipulation of magnetic domain walls can be used to improve the capabilities of the next generation of memory and sensing devices. Materials of recent interest for such devices include heterostructures of ultrathin ferromagnets sandwiched between a heavy metal and an oxide, where spin-orbit coupling and broken inversion symmetry give rise to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), stabilizing chiral domain walls. The efficiency of the motion of these chiral domain walls may be controlled using in-plane magnetic fields. This property has been used for measurement of DMI strength. While micromagnetic simulations are able to accurately predict domain wall motion under in-plane fields in these materials, collective coordinate models such as the $q-\phi$ and $q-\phi-\chi$ models fail to reproduce the micromagnetic results. In this theoretical work, we present a set of extended collective coordinate models including canting in the domains, which better reproduce micromagnetic results, and helps us better understand the effect of in-plane fields on magnetic domain walls. These models are used in conjunction with micromagnetic simulations to identify critical points observed in the motion of the domain walls driven by out-of-plane magnetic fields, and electric current under magnetic in-plane fields. Our new models and results help in the development of future domain wall based devices based on perpendicularly magnetized materials.

Abstract

Recent studies on heterostructures of ultrathin ferromagnets sandwiched between a heavy metal layer and an oxide have highlighted the importance of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and broken inversion symmetry in domain wall (DW) motion. Specifically, chiral DWs are stabilized in these systems due to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). SOC can also lead to enhanced current induced DW motion, with the spin Hall effect (SHE) suggested as the dominant mechanism for this observation. The efficiency of SHE driven DW motion depends on the internal magnetic structure of the DW, which could be controlled using externally applied longitudinal in-plane fields. In this work, micromagnetic simulations and collective coordinate models are used to study current-driven DW motion under longitudinal in-plane fields in perpendicularly magnetized samples with strong DMI. Several extended collective coordinate models are developed to reproduce the micromagnetic results. While these extended models show improvements over traditional models of this kind, there are still discrepancies between them and micromagnetic simulations which require further work.

Abstract

We study bubble domain wall dynamics using micromagnetic simulations in perpendicularly magnetized ultra-thin films with disorder and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Disorder is incorporated into the material as grains with randomly distributed sizes and varying exchange constant at the edges. As expected, magnetic bubbles expand asymmetrically along the axis of the in-plane field under the simultaneous application of out-of-plane and in-plane fields. Remarkably, the shape of the bubble has a ripple-like part which causes a kink-like (steep decrease) feature in the velocity versus in-plane field curve. We show that these ripples originate due to the nucleation and interaction of vertical Bloch lines. Furthermore, we show that the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction field is not constant but rather depends on the in-plane field. Abstract

In this study, Interval number and Fuzzy number Linear Programming problems are addressed. We deal with some convenient methods to solve the addressed problems. We focus on preparing an improving approach based on Tang Shaocheng method to solve linear programming problems with interval or fuzzy numbers. Also, some applications of our proposed approach in fractional programming are presented. Particularly, we propose an algorithm using our improved approach to solve a fuzzy multi-objective linear fractional programming problem. Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Organophosphorus pesticides are one of the most consumable poisons in the country. Such poisons can enter water sources by different routes since consuming some drinking water which contains an amount of poison higher than the standard level, causes undesirable effects to human health and hygiene. The purpose of the present work is to study the effectiveness of eliminating malathion from water by ultraviolet irradiation (UV) mercury lamp with a medium pressure.METHODS: In this experimental study, concentrations of 0.5, 1, and 2 mg/L and pH values of 6, 7, and 9 from malathion poison were irradiated at the times of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 minutes in a ultraviolet reactor. The amounts of malathion poison were determined by HPLC instrument and then compared before and after the irradiation. FINDINGS: The results of the present study at different concentrations, times and pH show that the minimum reduction of malathion occurs at the time period of 10 min ( %46) and the maximum reduction at the time period of 60 min (%87.25) (p

Abstract

In this paper, new concepts of (ˆ-feasibility and ã-efficiency of solutions for fuzzy mathematical programming problems are used, where ã is a vector of distinct satisfaction degrees. Recently, a special kind of fuzzy mathematical programming entitled Fuzzy Flexible Linear programming (FFLP) is attracted much interest. Using the mentioned concepts, we propose a two-phase approach to solve FFLP. In the first phase, the original FFLP problem converts to a Multi-Objective Linear Programming (MOLP) problem, and then in phase II a weighting technique for the reduced program is introduced. We saw that it was observed that using this concept as a generalization of the parametric approach in linear programming provides a more appropriate tool for modeling real problems and improving the solving process. Thus, by using this two-phase approach, we achieve better utilization of available resources. Further, the solution resulting from these two approaches is always an ã-efficient solution. Abstract

This paper deals with knapsack problem in fuzzy nature, where both the objective function and constraints are considered to be fuzzy. Three different models for fuzzy knapsack problem are proposed including, expected value model, chance-constrained model, and dependent-chance model. Credibility ranking method is applied to convert the fuzzy models into a crisp equivalent linear one considering triangular and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The solution of the fuzzy problem is obtained with respect to different satisfaction degrees in the objective function and constraints. Several numerical examples are given to demonstrate different models and concepts. The proposed approaches are applied to model and to solve a fuzzy pre-disaster investment decision problem. Abstract

Objectives To determine the importance placed by patients on attributes associated with whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) and standard cancer staging pathways and ascertain drivers of preference. Methods Patients recruited to two multi-centre diagnostic accuracy trials comparing WB-MRI with standard staging pathways in lung and colorectal cancer were invited to complete a discrete choice experiment (DCE), choosing between a series of alternate pathways in which 6 attributes (accuracy, time to diagnosis, scan duration, whole-body enclosure, radiation exposure, total scan number) were varied systematically. Data were analysed using a conditional logit regression model and marginal rates of substitution computed. The relative importance of each attribute and probabilities of choosing WB-MRI-based pathways were estimated. Results A total of 138 patients (mean age 65, 61% male, lung n = 72, colorectal n = 66) participated (May 2015 to September 2016). Lung cancer patients valued time to diagnosis most highly, followed by accuracy, radiation exposure, number of scans, and time in the scanner. Colorectal cancer patients valued accuracy most highly, followed by time to diagnosis, radiation exposure, and number of scans. Patients were willing to wait 0.29 (lung) and 0.45 (colorectal) weeks for a 1% increase in pathway accuracy. Patients preferred WB-MRI-based pathways (probability 0.64 [lung], 0.66 [colorectal]) if they were equivalent in accuracy, total scan number, and time to diagnosis compared with a standard staging pathway. Conclusions Staging pathways based on first-line WB-MRI are preferred by the majority of patients if they at least match standard pathways for diagnostic accuracy, time to diagnosis, and total scan number.

49. Evaluation of antioxidant and cytoprotective activities of Artemisia ciniformis extracts on PC12 cells

Abstract

Objective(s): In the current study antioxidant capacities of five different extracts of Artemisia ciniformis aerial parts were evaluated by cell-free methods. Then seven fractions of the potent extract were selected and their antioxidant capacity was assayed by cell free and cell based methods. Materials and Methods: Antioxidant ability was measured using the: 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging test, β-carotene bleaching (BCB) method and ferrous ion chelating (FIC) assay. Total phenolic contents (TPC) of all the samples also were determined. The cytoprotective effect of fractions was evaluated by measuring the viability of cells after exposure to doxorubicin (DOX). The mechanism of action was studied by investigating caspase-3, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), the level of super-oxide dismutase (SOD) and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). Results: Hydroethanolic extract exhibited a notably higher antioxidant activity and phenolic content. Among the fractions (A to G) of hydroethanolic extract, the highest antioxidant capacity was observed in the Fraction E. Moreover, 24 hr pretreatment of PC12 cells with fractions B, C and D decreased DOX-induced cytotoxicity. In addition, pre-treatment of cells with fraction B resulted in significant decrease in generation of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increase in the activity of SOD. We were able to demonstrate remarkable reduction in the activity of caspase-3 and increase in MMP in PC12 cells following pretreatment with fraction B. Conclusion: Our observations indicated that the fraction B of A. ciniformis hydroetanolic extract possessed protective effect on oxidative stress and apoptosis induced by DOX in PC12 cells.
