This study delves into decoding hand gestures using surface electromyography (EMG) signals collected via a precision Myo-armband sensor, leveraging machine learning algorithms. The research entails rigorous data preprocessing to extract features and labels from raw EMG data. Following partitioning into training and testing sets, four traditional machine learning models are scrutinized for their efficacy in classifying finger movements across seven distinct gestures. The analysis includes meticulous parameter optimization and five-fold cross-validation to evaluate model performance. Among the models assessed, the Random Forest emerges as the top performer, consistently delivering superior precision, recall, and F1-score values across gesture classes, with ROC-AUC scores surpassing 99%. These findings underscore the Random Forest model as the optimal classifier for our EMG dataset, promising significant advancements in healthcare rehabilitation engineering and enhancing human–computer interaction technologies. Pure and Ni-doped (1%, 2%, and 3%) nanostructures were synthesized using a novel laser-assisted chemical bath synthesis (LACBS) technique. For the first time, LACBS was used to create a doping solution utilizing a 7 W blue laser with a 444.4 nm wavelength and a continuous beam. The Ni-doping concentration was varied by changing the amount of Ni precursor added. All samples were analyzed using XRD, SEM, EDX, FTIR, UV–Vis, and photocatalysis tests for photodegradation under blue laser illumination. XRD was used to confirm that the tested ZnO had a hexagonal wurtzite structure. The crystallite size decreased as the Ni-doping concentration rose. EDX experiments were conducted to analyze the elemental characteristics of the pure and Ni-doped (1%, 2%, and 3%) nanostructures. The existence of nanoscale hexagonal structures was confirmed through SEM studies. The band gap values of the pure and Ni-doped ZnO nanostructures decreased as the doping concentration increased. FTIR studies were conducted to examine the functional groups of the pure and doped samples. The produced materials exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance toward the degradation of MB organic dye, an example of a pollutant found in wastewater. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Unlike other types of tumours, automated osteosarcoma segmentation in magnetic resonance images (MRI) is a challenging task due to its different and unique intensity and texture. This paper presents a technique for segmenting osteosarcoma in MRI images using a combination of image processing techniques which include K‐means clustering, Chan‐Vese segmentation, iterative Gaussian filtering, and Canny edge detection. In addition, the proposed technique involves iterative morphological operations and object counting. The technique was tested using 50 MRI scan images that contain osteosarcoma tumours. The proposed technique was able to segment the osteosarcoma regardless of the variations in their intensities, textures and locations. The performance of the technique was measured by calculating the values for precision, recall, specificity, Dice score coefficient, accuracy and the running time (RT) for all tested cases. The proposed technique achieved 95.96% precision, 86.15% recall, 99.51% specificity, 89.84% Dice score coefficient, 98.02% accuracy, and 191.62 s average running time.
