Spheroidization annealing of low carbon steel and its effects on the microstructure and mechanical properties of dual phase (DP) steel were studied. It was revealed that the reduction in strength and hardness of the quenched martensitic microstructure was much more pronounced compared to the fully annealed ferritic-pearlitic banded microstructure with spheroidizing time. This was related to the confinement of spheroidized carbide particles to distinct bands in the latter, and the uniform dispersion of carbides and high-temperature tempering of martensite in the former. During intercritical annealing of the spheroidized microstructures, the tendency to obtain martensite particles as discrete islands was observed. This, in turn, resulted in an inferior strength-ductility balance compared to the DP steel obtained from the intercritical annealing of martensite, which negated the usefulness of the spheroidized microstructures as the initial microstructures for the processing of DP steels.

Objectives Leishmania parasites are the causative agents of leishmaniasis. The Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) form of the disease is fatal if not treated in most cases. This study examined the epidemiological aspects of VL in two southwest counties of Iran. Methods This was a retrospective study of hospitalized patients with a laboratory confirmation of VL from Larestan and Ghiro-Karzin Counties. Results For Larestan county, a decline in the incidence of VL has been observed from 2004 to 2015. Significantly more males (n = 14) than females (n = 6) were infected with VL in this county (p < 0.05), >95% of cases in children under 5 years of age. In Ghiro-Karzin county, the results were similar to a decline in VL infection from 2004 to 2015, and slightly more males (n = 14) than females (n = 11). Similarly, the majority of the patients infected with VL were children under 5 years old (88%). Conclusion The results from this study indicate that although the incidence of VL infection has reduced over time, VL was more prevalent in boys under 5 years old, suggesting that more attention to controlling the parasite and its vector are required.

Leishmania parasites can cause zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) by circulating between humans, rodents, and sandflies in Iran. In this study, published data were collected from scientific sources such as Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Springer, ResearchGate, Wiley Online, Ovid, Ebsco, Cochrane Library, Google scholar, and SID. Keywords searched in the articles, theses, and abstracts from 1983 to 2021 were cutaneous leishmaniasis, epidemiology, reservoir, vector, climatic factors, identification, and Iran. This review revealed that CL was prevalent in the west of Iran, while the center and south of Iran were also involved in recent years. The lack of facilities in suburban regions was an aggravating factor in the human community. Some parts of southern Iran were prominent foci of CL due the presence of potential rodent hosts in these regions. Rhombomys opimus, Meriones lybicus, and Tatera indica were well-documented species for hosting the Leishmania species in Iran. Moreover, R. opimus has been found with a coinfection of Leishmania major and L. turanica from the northeast and center of Iran. Mashhad, Kerman, Yazd, and sometimes Shiraz and Tehran foci were distinct areas for L. tropica. Molecular identifications using genomic diagnosis of kDNA and ITS1 fragments of the parasite indicated that there is heterogeneity in leishmaniasis in different parts of the country. Although cutaneous leishmaniasis has been a predicament for the health system, it is relatively under control in Iran.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) on survival, activation and growth of ovine primordial follicles using histological studies. Pieces of ovine ovarian cortex were obtained and cultured for 6 days in Minimum Essential Medium supplemented with or without FSH (50 ng/mL). These fragments were then process to be used for histology compared to each other and noncultured group. The results showed that the lowest percentage of normal follicles in control medium was observed after 6 days of culture. A higher percentage of growing follicles was observed in presence vs. absence of FSH. Moreover, an increase in diameter of both oocyte and follicle was observed in those fragments that have been cultured in presence of FSH. This study demonstrated that FSH not only maintains the morphological integrity of ovine preantral follicles cultured for 6 days in vitro, but also stimulates the activation of primordial follicles and the growth of activated follicles. Study design:The use of stem cells for functional recovery after spinal cord injury.Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a combination of autologous undifferentiated and neural-induced bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on behavioral improvement in rats after inducing spinal cord injury and comparing with transplantation of undifferentiated and neural-induced MSCs alone.Setting:The study was conducted at the department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran.Methods:The spinal cord was injured by contusion using a Fogarty embolectomy catheter at the T8–T9 level of the spinal cord, and autologous MSCs were transplanted into the center of the developing lesion cavity, 3 mm cranial and 3 mm caudal to the cavity, at 7 days after induction of spinal cord compression injury.Results:At 5 weeks after transplantation, the presence of transplanted cells was detected in the spinal cord parenchyma using immunohistochemistry analysis. In all treatment groups (differentiated, undifferentiated and mix), there was less cavitation than lesion sites in the control group. The Basso–Beattie–Bresnahan (BBB) score was significantly higher in rats transplanted with a combination of cells and in rats transplanted with neural-induced MSCs alone than in undifferentiated and control rats.Conclusion:Pre-differentiation of MSCs to neuron-like cells has a very important role in achieving the best results for functional improvement. This is a descriptive study about nursing care of patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis in Hospitals of Ministry of Health and Medical Education , Tehran. Data collection tool in this study was a questionnaire that prepared by researcher and was delivered to the research samples in the ministry of health hospitals. Results showed that majority of nurses had approximately good knowledge about Rheumatoid Arthritis disease but had approximately moderate to low knowledge about nursing care of these patients (nursing care in various field has been investigated). According to the findings continuing education is required for nurses about nursing care of patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Objective: Spermatogenesis depends on spermatogonial stem cell self renewal and differentiation, but these cells are very few in each testis approximately 0.02-0.03% in mouse testis. In the present study, cell lines from neonate caprine testis were cultured and characterized and the effect of growth factors were investigated. Monitoring cultured cells after 4 and 7 days revealed colonies resembling spermatogonial colonies contained spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). Materials and Methods: Growth of these colonies depended on the growth factors: leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), glial-cell derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), GDNF receptor α-1 (GFR- α-1), Insulin like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and basal ?broblast growth factor (bFGF). Basal media (BM), BM plus GDNF and BM with GDNF and GFR- α-1 had the most number of colonies in compare with BM contains GDNF, IGF-I and bFGF, BM with GDNF, EGF and LIF and BM plus all growth factors in day 4. Results: However seven days after culture, the least and insignificant decrement in number of colonies observed in media supplemented with IGF-I and bFGF. In day 4 the least number of colonies were achieved in effect of GDNF, EGF and LIF. In the other hand, these growth factors had putative effects on proliferation of somatic cells. The basal media was supplemented with all growth factors provided good conditions for both somatic cells and spermatogonial colonies. Furthermore we determined spermatogonial colonies by immunocytochemistry with SSC, germ cell and somatic cell markers. Conclusion: Characterization of these colonies revealed that all aforementioned markers were positive in all colonies of experimental media. RT-PCR analysis of SSC markers and transplantation of colony cells confirmed that media containing GDNF+IGF-I+bFGF was the best mixture for caprine SSC maintenance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are unique cells of testes that can restore fertility upon transplantation into recipient testes. However, use of suitable markers for enrichment of these cells is an important potential application. THY1 is an established conserved marker of SSCs in bovine, rodents and primates, but, there is no information available in goats. Materials and Methods: Following three rounds of enzymatic digestion of pre-pubertal goat testicular tissues, undifferentiated spermatogonia positive for THY1 were isolated by magnetic activated cell sorting (MACS) and were used for immunocytochemistry, real time PCR analysis of gene expression, protein expression, and transplantation into recipient mice. Results: Immunocytochemical analyses showed that significantly higher percentage of THY1+ cells were positive for PLZF and VASA as compared to unselected population. This result for PLZF was further confirmed at protein level. Real time PCR analysis revealed that expression of THY1, PLZF, VASA, BCL6B, UCHL1 as SCCs characteristic genes in THY1+ cells were significantly higher than in the initial population. Finally, transplantation of PKH26 labeled cells revealed that THY1+ cells had higher capacity for colony formation as compared to unselected cells. Objective: Spermatogonia are male germ line progenitors of sperm cells. In bovine, rodents and primates, undifferentiated spermatogonia and spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) express the surface marker THY1. Since cells can be enriched from mixed populations by positive or negative selection on physical or functional characteristics such as cell surface markers, present study was aimed to compare the efficiency of two different enrichment methods: Magnetic activated cell sorting (MACS) and differential plating (DP) in pre-pubertal goat testes cell population. To comparison of two enrichment methods efficiency, real time PCR analysis, protein expression, and transplantation into recipient mice data were analyzed. For control group, the intact testis cells population were used. Materials and Methods: After 3 times enzymatic digestion of pre-pubertal goat testicular tissues, cells were cultured for 16 h in laminin-coated flasks and DP carried out. For MACS method, cell suspension were sorted using THY1 surface marker. Results: Real time PCR analysis revealed that expression of THY1, PLZF, VASA, BCL6B, UCHL1 as SCCs characteristic genes in THY1 positive cells were significantly higher than in the DP isolation cells and unselected total cells. Transplantation of THY1positive, DP isolated and intact population of testis cells (control) into the mice recipient seminiferous tubules revealed that THY1 positive cells had higher capacity for colony formation were compared to DP isolated and intact cells. Background: For a comprehensive evaluation and due to the inconsistent results of previous studies, we performed this meta-analysis with the aim of vitamin C effect on breast cancer and prostate cancer and colorectal cancer., Methods: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science were searched to identify studies on the association between vitamin C and breast cancer, prostate cancer and colorectal cancer through September 11, 2023. The pooled RR and the 95 % confidence intervals were used to measure the association between vitamin C and breast cancer, prostate cancer and colorectal cancer by assuming a random effects meta-analytic model. Newcastle-Ottawa scale was used for quality appraisal., Results: A total of 69 studies were included. The pooled RR for the association between vitamin C (dietary) and breast cancer in the cohort study was 0.99 [95 % CI: 0.95, 1.03], but the pooled RR in the case-control study was 0.72 [95 % CI: 0.60, 0.85]. No association was found between vitamin E (supplemental, total intake) and breast cancer in studies. The pooled RR for the association between vitamin C (dietary) and prostate cancer was 0.88 [95 % CI: 0.77, 1.00], which represents a decrease in prostate cancer. No association was found between vitamin C (supplemental) and prostate cancer in studies. The pooled RR for the association between vitamin C (dietary) and colorectal cancer was 0.55 [95 % CI: 0.42, 0.73], which represents a decrease in colorectal cancer., Conclusion: Our analysis shows an inverse significant relationship between vitamin C (dietary) and breast cancer in the case-control study. Introduction: Panoramic radiographs are widely used for age estimation in clinical and forensic domains. Conventionally, age estimation uses humans assessing tooth development and deducing the expected age from that. Deep learning may improve or substitute this traditional approach and allow age estimation at scale in routine settings. The objective of this systematic review was to assess the performance of deep learning for age estimation on panoramic radiographs., Data: Studies using deep learning for age estimation (index test), reporting their performance metrically against a reference test (human expert assessment or the actually known age) were included., Sources: PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, Scopus, ArXiv, medRxiv, and IEEE databases were searched on 24th July 2023, and the search was updated in June 2024., Study Selection: Out of 2,441 studies, 42 were selected for inclusion. Risk of bias was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 tool. Meta-analysis was restricted to studies (n = 9) that reported the error of the model against the reference test in years., Results: Thirteen studies demonstrated a low risk of bias, while the majority showed unclear or high risk of bias. Accuracy for classifying individuals into age brackets emerged as the most common metric, with accuracy spanning from 27 % to 100 %. Pooled mean absolute error was 1.75 (95 % CI: 0.96 - 2.55) years CONCLUSION: The performance of deep learning for age estimation from panoramics varied significantly between studies. The mean absolute error, at 1.75 years, however, indicates the promises of deep learning for this purpose., Clinical Significance: This systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrated the potential of deep learning as an adjunct diagnostic tool for age estimation, showing that, in mean, the absolute error of deep learning was only 1.75 years. Mental health is a vital part of the bigger well-being picture in the Middle East, which faces specific challenges. In history, mental health has had a bad reputation and low access to services but this is changing as stakeholders are now promoting mental wellbeing. This literature review examines new ways to advance mental health in the Middle East. It explores cultural context, educates on mental health issues, integrates primary care and mental health services, uses technology for communication purposes, builds community support, and advocates for policy reform towards improved mental healthcare outcomes. A comprehensive review across all academic databases was published between 2018 and 2023 using search terms "mental health" and "Middle East". The study highlights the importance of understanding cultural and social factors that contribute to people's comprehension of their minds. Additionally, it suggests methods of raising awareness against stigma like digital platforms and community-based education among others. It also points out two measures: first, it indicates that integrating MHI into Primary Health Care (PHC) Systems increases accessibility; secondly, it proposes that a technology-supported personalized approach can be used to support individuals when needed. On this note, the paper underscores the necessity of utilizing local players within communities at large. The review puts a lot of stress on the significance of approaches that are community-based and involve all people living within an area. This review is very timely and comprehensive in its framework meant to improve mental health in the Middle East. The results could be useful in providing insights for devising appropriate culturally sensitive interventions aimed at promoting mental health in this region. Background: Overall, 20-30% of all cancers are estimated to be linked to infectious agents. Polyomaviruses are oncogenic cause in rodent models, readily transform their cells, and cause chromosomal instability in animal and human cells in-vitro. Some reports have indicated the presence of JCPyV and BKPyV in some human tumors. The JCPyV and BKPyV genome encodes some transforming proteins such as LT-Ag. Thus, these viruses could cause or promote some neoplasia, such as lymphomas, pancreatic, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in the world. Risk factors for developing CRC are associated with personal features or habits, such as age, lifestyle, and gut microbiota., Materials and Methods: In this study, we examined the prevalence of JCPyV and BKPyV in the 23 fecal samples of CRC patients and 24 healthy samples (control group). Virus DNA was extracted by a Favorgen DNA extraction kit. The large T antigen of JCPyV and VP1 of BKPyV were investigated by optimized multiplex PCR., Results: One of the samples was positive for the JCPyV (4.3%), while in the samples of healthy individuals, the JCPyV was negative. Also, positive results for BKPyV PCR were obtained for five cases (21.7%) in the samples of the CRC group and one case (4.1%) in healthy individuals., Conclusion: The result showed no direct correlation between tumorigenesis and polyomavirus infections in CRC development. However, the exact role of BKPyV and JCPyV is still controversial and needs further study with larger sample size.

Cytokine storms, which result from an abrupt, acute surge in the circulating levels of different pro-inflammatory cytokines, are one of the complications associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. This study aimed to assess the effect of exosomes on the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and compare it with a control group. The cytokines evaluated in this study were TNF-α, IL-6, IL-17, and IFN-γ. The study compared the levels of these pro-inflammatory cytokines in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of five COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit, who were subjected to both inactivated SARS-CoV-2 and exosome therapy, with those of five healthy controls. The cytokine levels were quantified using the ELISA method. The collected data was analyzed in SPSS Version 26.0 and GraphPad Prism Version 9. According to the study findings, when PBMCs were exposed to inactivated SARS-CoV-2, pro-inflammatory cytokines increased in both patients and healthy controls. Notably, the cytokine levels were significantly elevated in the COVID-19 patients compared to the control group P-values were < 0.001, 0.001, 0.008, and 0.008 for TNF-α, IL-6, IL-17, and IFN-γ, respectively. Conversely, when both groups were exposed to exosomes, there was a marked reduction in the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines. This suggests that exosome administration can effectively mitigate the hyperinflammation induced by COVID-19 by suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in patients. Background: Basal zone hyperplasia (BZH) and dilated intercellular spaces (DISs) are thought to contribute to the clinical manifestations of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE); however, the molecular pathways that drive BZH remain largely unexplored., Objective: We sought to define the role of IL-13-induced transcriptional programs in esophageal epithelial proliferation in EoE., Methods: We performed RNA sequencing, bioinformatics, Western blot, reverse transcriptase quantitative PCR, and histologic analyses on esophageal biopsies from healthy control and patients with EoE, primary esophageal cells derived from patients with EoE, and IL-13-stimulated esophageal epithelial keratinocytes grown at the air-liquid interface (EPC2-ALI). Genetic (shRNA) and pharmacologic (proteolysis-targeting chimera degrader) approaches and in vivo model of IL-13-induced esophageal epithelial remodeling (Krt5-rtTA x tetO-IL-13Tg) were used to define the role of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and STAT6 and secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (SFRP1) in esophageal epithelial proliferation., Results: RNA-sequencing analysis of esophageal biopsies (healthy control vs EoE) and EPC2-ALI revealed 82 common differentially expressed genes that were enriched for putative STAT3 target genes. In vitro and in vivo analyses revealed a link between IL-13-induced STAT3 and STAT6 phosphorylation, SFRP1 mRNA expression, and esophageal epithelial proliferation. In vitro studies showed that IL-13-induced esophageal epithelial proliferation was STAT3-dependent and regulated by the STAT3 target SFRP1. SFRP1 mRNA is increased in esophageal biopsies from patients with active EoE compared with healthy controls or patients in remission and identifies an esophageal suprabasal epithelial cell subpopulation that uniquely expressed the core EoE proinflammatory transcriptome genes (CCL26, ALOX15, CAPN14, ANO1, and TNFAIP6)., Conclusions: These studies identify SFRP1 as a key regulator of IL-13-induced and STAT3-dependent esophageal proliferation and BZH in EoE and link SFRP1 + esophageal epithelial cells with the proinflammatory and epithelial remodeling response in EoE., (Copyright © 2023 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. Background: Along with a global increase in the prevalence of infectious and non-communicable diseases, self-care with an emphasis on reproductive health Self-care has received special attention. Given the importance of women's health, assessment of their self-care status using a valid and reliable tool seems to be necessary to determine the needs for future women's reproductive health promotion interventions. The present study aimed to assess the women's self-care at reproductive age in Tehran, to determine women's health needs based on global guidelines for women's health., Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study on 1051 women of reproductive age, living in Tehran. The Subjects were recruited using a multi-stage sampling method. The women completed a socio-demographic and valid and reliable questionnaire to assess their self-care status. The data were analyzed using SPSS 24 and by Pearson, Spearman, ANOVA, and regression tests., Results: The mean score of self-care was 49.57 ± 23.50% in the reproductive-aged women. The lowest scores were related to psychosocial health (32.12 ± 29.93%) and reproductive-sexual health (49.74 ± 27.99%) respectively. There were significant positive correlations between the self-care and women's education level (r = 0.180; p < 0.01), and husband's education level (r = 0.272; p < 0.01), while there was a negative significant correlation between the self-care and the family size (r = - 0.135; p < 0.01)., Conclusion: The findings showed inadequate self-care among reproductive-aged women in Tehran. The most important challenge in their self-care behaviors was related to psychosocial and reproductive-sexual health. Several vaccines have been developed against SARS-CoV-2 and subsequently approved by national/international regulators. Detecting specific antibodies after vaccination enables us to evaluate the vaccine's effectiveness. We conducted a prospective longitudinal study among members of Tarbiat Modares University of Tehran, Iran, from 4 September 2021 until 29 December 2021. We aimed to compare the humoral immunogenicity of 3 vaccine types. Participants consisted of 462 adults. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain [RBD] IgG titer was compared in 3 groups, each vaccinated by available vaccines in Iran at the time: Oxford/AstraZeneca, COVIran Barekat, and Sinopharm. The median IgG titer was: 91.2, 105.6, 224.0 BAU/ml for Sinopharm, COVIran Barekat and Oxford/AstraZeneca respectively after the first dose; 195.2, 192.0, 337.6 BAU/ml after the second one. We also analyzed the frequency of antibody presence in each vaccine group, in the same order the results were 59.0%, 62.6% and 89.4% after the first dose and 92.1%,89.5% and 98.9% after the second. The comparison of results demonstrated that AstraZeneca vaccine is a superior candidate vaccine for COVID-19 vaccination out of the three. Anopheline mosquitoes are responsible for transmission of some diseases such as malaria. This study was carried out in five villages of Dashtestan county, Bushehr province, south of Iran with mountainous and plain areas. Anopheles larvae were sampled once a month from May to July 2021 by dipping method using standard dippers. Adults were captured by the total catch technique. In this study, 1062 Anopheles mosquitoes were collected including 850 adults and 212 larvae. Samples were A. superpictus, A. stephensi, A. dthali and A. fluviatilis . The dominant species at all sites (larvae and adults) were A. dthali (31.35%), A. superpictus (28.93%), A. stephensi (27.77%), and A. fluviatilis (11.95%), respectively. Among adults, A. stephensi was the most frequent species, but among larvae, A. dthali was the dominant species. The highest number of A. dthali was captured from Dalaki village with 35%, while A. superpictus and A. fluviatilis were not caught at this station. The minimum collected adults of all species occurred in Bashirabad. This result showed that A. stephensi plays an important role in south Iran, which is under the elimination phase. The fauna and niches of Anopheles has different patterns depending on ecological, climatic, and topographic features. These items affect host preferences, feeding behaviors, and distribution of these species. Background: Women need special care during and after menopause. Due to the emphasis of the World Health Organization on promoting self-care in postmenopausal women, this study aims to analyze the situation and prioritize the self-care needs of postmenopausal women in the Tehran-Iran., Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical study on 486 postmenopausal women aged 46-85 years living in Tehran in 2021. The Subjects were recruited using a multi-stage sampling method. Data were collected using a socio-demographic and a valid and reliable questionnaire to assess postmenopausal women's self-care status with four domains including physical health, psychosocial health, reproductive-sexual health, and screening tests. The data were analyzed by SPSS-24., Results: The mean age of the participants was 62.58 ± 7.75 years. The mean score of self-care was 44.63 ± 21.64% in the postmenopausal women. The lowest score and highest scores were related to psychosocial health (25.12 ± 28.21%) and periodic tests (50.62 ± 24.40%) respectively. There were significant positive correlations between self-care with women's education level (r = 0.277; p < 0.001), husband's education level (r = 0.258; p < 0.001), as well as monthly income (r = 0.153; p = 0.001). There was a negative correlation between self-care with the number of children (r = - 0.215; p < 0.001). The level of self-care was higher in employed women (p = 0.001) and also, in women whose husbands were employed (p = 0.012). Multiple linear regression test showed the level of education of the husband (B = 2.72, p = 0.038) and the family size (B = -1.54, p = 0.023) are predictors of the self-care of postmenopausal women., Conclusion: The findings showed more than 55% of challenges in the self-care behaviors of postmenopausal women in Tehran. The most and least challenging self-care behaviors were related to psychosocial health and performing periodic tests. The priorities were in psychosocial health and reproductive-sexual health dimensions. Obesity is a health risk characterized by chronic inflammation, and food choices are strongly associated with its etiology. Our objective was to investigate the association between dietary patterns and the healthy eating index (HEI) with the odds of overweight/obesity and related inflammatory markers. Within a population-based case-control study, we collected data and samples from 793 normal-weight and 812 overweight/obese Iranian people (based on either body mass index (BMI) or body surface area (BSA)). Dietary intake and HEI scores were obtained via a validated 124-item food frequency questionnaire. Anthropometric and socioeconomic parameters, as well as blood inflammatory markers, were measured. Participants with higher HEI scores had higher serum high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and significantly lower energy intake. Water consumption in the overweight/obese group was significantly lower than in the control group. In the final models using partial correlation and controlling for multiple confounders, there was a significant inverse correlation between HEI and interleukin-4 (IL-4, R = -0.063), IL-1β (R = -0.054), and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP, R = -0.069). Based on multivariable logistic regression models adjusted for multiple confounders, there was a significant association between HEI as a continuous variable (OR = 0.993, 95% CI: 0.988-0.999) and categorical variable (OR = 0.801, 95% CI: 0.658-0.977) and odds of overweight/obesity across BMI groups. The dietary patterns in the case and control groups however were similar, and we failed to find a significant association between HEI and odds of overweight/obesity based on BSA. Adherence to healthy eating recommendations may be a prudent recommendation to prevent overweight/obesity and keeping inflammatory indicators low.

Background: Rumination is significantly frequent in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, not a lot of studies have investigated the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on rumination., Methods: 61 participants with a minimum Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) score of 20 were randomly assigned to sham, bilateral stimulation (BS) or unilateral stimulation (US) groups. EEG, The Ruminative Response Scale (RRS), and HAM-D were administered before and after the 20 sessions of rTMS. Phase locked values (PLV) were calculated as a measure of connectivity., Results: There was a significant decrease in HAM-D scores in both BS and US. In responders, BS and US differed significantly in RRS total scores, with greater reduction in BS. PLV significantly changed in the default mode network (DMN) in delta, theta, alpha, and beta in BS, in responders of which PLV decreased in the DMN in beta and gamma. Positive correlations between PLV and brooding in delta and theta, and negative correlations between PLV and reflection were found in theta, alpha, and beta. In US, connectivity in the DMN increased in beta, and PLV increased in theta and beta, and decreased in alpha and beta in its responders. Positive correlations between PLV and brooding in the delta and theta, as well as negative correlations between PLV and reflection in theta were observed in the DMN., Conclusion: US and BS resulted in different modulations in the DMN, however, both could alleviate both rumination and depression. Since working children have limited access to testing and monitoring for COVID-19, we decided to measure SARS-CoV-2 prevalence among them and compare it to non-working children. Our objective is to compare the frequency of SARS-CoV-2 genome and anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody among working and non-working children. Volunteer child labor studying at Defense of Child Labor and Street Children and randomly selected 5-18-year-old (same range as child labor group) unemployed children participated in this study. The groups, respectively, had 65 and 137 members. This is an analytical cross-sectional study that surveys molecular prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection by RT-PCR, and seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibody by ELISA in working and non-working children. The IBM SPSS statistics software version 25 was used for data analysis. The χ2 or Fisher's exact test was used to analyze categorical dependent variables, for calculating odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Among the children enrolled in this study, molecular prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 turned out to be 18.5% in working children while it was 5.8% in unemployed children [aOR: 3.00 (CI95%: 1.00-7.00); P value: 0.003] and seroprevalence turned out to be 20% in working children vs 13.9% in non-working children [aOR: 1.000 (CI95%: 0.00-2.00); > P 0.001]. Equal SARS-CoV-2 viral load as adults and no symptoms or mild ones in children, coupled with working children's strong presence in crowded areas and their higher rate of COVID-19 prevalence, make them a probable source for spread of the virus.

Background: Cognitive impairments are prevalent in patients with unipolar and bipolar depressive disorder (UDD and BDD, respectively). Considering the fact assessing cognitive functions is increasingly feasible for clinicians and researchers, targeting these problems in treatment and using them at baseline as predictors of response to treatment can be very informative., Method: In a naturalistic, retrospective study, data from 120 patients (Mean age: 33.58) with UDD ( n = 56) and BDD ( n = 64) were analyzed. Patients received 20 sessions of bilateral rTMS (10 Hz over LDLPFC and 1 HZ over RDLPFC) and were assessed regarding their depressive symptoms, sustained attention, working memory, and executive functions, using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) and Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery Cambridge, at baseline and after the end of rTMS treatment course. Generalized estimating equations (GEE) and logistic regression were used as the main statistical methods to test the hypotheses., Results: Fifty-three percentage of all patients ( n = 64) responded to treatment. In particular, 53.1% of UDD patients ( n = 34) and 46.9% of BDD patients ( n = 30) responded to treatment. Bilateral rTMS improved all cognitive functions (attention, working memory, and executive function) except for visual memory and resulted in more modulations in the working memory of UDD compared to BDD patients. More improvements in working memory were observed in responded patients and visual memory, age, and sex were determined as treatment response predictors. Objective: Sperm vitrification leads to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can damage the functional parameters of sperm. The present study aimed to investigate the antioxidant effect of Nigella sativa extract on motility, plasma membrane function, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), DNA damage, and intracellular ROS production., Methods: A total of 20 sperm samples were used. Samples were divided into six experimental groups, including groups with aqueous extract from N. sativa seeds at concentrations of 1% to 6%, a cryopreserved control group, and a fresh control group., Results: Statistical analysis showed significantly higher total sperm motility at concentrations of 3% to 6% than in the vitrified semen control group. Additionally, progressive motility and all motion characteristics at all concentrations were significantly higher than in the vitrified semen control group. The presence of N. sativa seed extract also improved the quality of the sperm parameters assayed in all experimental groups (1%-6%; intracellular ROS production, DNA damage, MMP, and sperm membrane function) compared to the control group., Conclusion: Higher concentrations of N. sativa led to improvements in all sperm parameters and sperm quality. These findings indicate that N. sativa seed extract is effective for improving the quality of sperm after vitrification.

Background: Blood sugar (BS) has been proposed as a prognostic factor for COVID-19. In this historical cohort study we evaluated the association between admission time BS and COVID-19 outcome., Methods: First, hospitalized COVID-19 patients were divided into three groups; Non-diabetic patients with BS < 140 mg/dl (N = 394), non-diabetic patients with BS ≥ 140 mg/dl (N = 113) and diabetic patients (N = 315). Mortality, ICU admission, and length of hospital stay were compared between groups and odds ratio was adjusted using logistic regression., Results: After adjustment with pre-existing conditions and drugs, it was shown that non-diabetic patients with BS ≥ 140 mg/dl are at increased risk of mortality (aOR 1.89 (0.99-3.57)) and ICU admission (aOR 2.62 (1.49-4.59)) even more than diabetic patients (aOR 1.72 (1.07-2.78) for mortality and aOR 2.28 (1.47-3.54) for ICU admission., Conclusions: Admission time hyperglycemia predicts worse outcome of COVID-19 and BS ≥ 140 mg/dl is associated with a markedly increase in ICU admission and mortality., (Copyright © 2022 Primary Care Diabetes Europe. Age-related Neurological Disorders (ANDs) involve Neurodegenerative Diseases (NDDs), such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD), the most frequent kind of dementia in elderly people, and Parkinson's Disease (PD), and also other disorders like epilepsy and migraine. Although ANDs are multifactorial, aging is a principal risk factor for them. The common and most main pathologic features among ANDs are inflammation, oxidative stress, and misfolded proteins accumulation. Since failing brains caused by ANDs impose a notable burden on public health and their incidence is increasing, a lot of works have been conducted to overcome them. Garlic, Allium sativum, has been used for different medical purposes globally and more than thousands of publications have reported its health benefits. Garlic and aged garlic extract are considered potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidants agents and can have remarkable neuroprotective effects. Objective: Amino acids can protect sperm structure in cryopreservation due to their antioxidant properties. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the protective effect of L-carnitine (LC) and N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) on motility parameters, plasma membrane integrity (PMI), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), DNA damage, and human sperm intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) during vitrification., Methods: Twenty normal human sperm samples were examined. Each sample was divided into six equal groups: LC (1 and 10 mM), NAC (5 and 10 mM), and cryopreserved and fresh control groups., Results: The groups treated with LC and NAC showed favorable findings in terms of motility parameters, DNA damage, and MMP. Significantly higher levels of intracellular ROS were observed in all cryopreserved groups than in the fresh group (p≤0.05). The presence of LC and NAC at both concentrations caused an increase in PMI, MMP, and progressive motility parameters, as well as a significant reduction in intracellular ROS compared to the control group (p≤0.05). The concentrations of the amino acids did not show any significant effect., Conclusion: LC and NAC are promising as potential additives in sperm cryopreservation.

Introduction: To enhance the COVID-19 patients' care and to optimize utilizing medical resources during the pandemic, relevant biomarkers are needed for prediction of the disease's progression. The current study was aimed to determine the factors that affect the mortality of COVID-19 patients admitted in Baharloo hospital in Iran., Methods: in the current retrospective study, 56 survived patients and 56 patients who were died (a total of 112 cases) because of COVID-19 infection were randomly selected from those who were admitted to Baharloo hospital. Each patient who was diagnosed with COVID-19 and had recovered from it matched with each non-survived patient in the term of age. Laboratory tests of all these patients at the time of admission were recorded and compared. All analyses performed using spss version 22 by considering α = 0.05 as a significant level., Results: There was no statistical difference in the age and gender distribution between the two groups (p > 0.05). The prevalence of diabetes among survived patients was 37.5% and among non-survived patients was 26.8% and there was no statistical difference between two groups regarding this comorbidity (p = 0.22). Also, there was no statistical difference in the prevalence of hypertension and coronary heart diseases between two groups (p > 0.05). Context : The importance of physiologic distribution of 18 F-FDG in the spinal cord. Objective : The recognition of the physiologic distribution of 18 F-FDG in the spinal cord is pivotal for accurate PET/CT imaging interpretation, especially in oncologic patients. Therefore, we performed a systematic review to investigate the normal distribution of 18 F-FDG throughout the spinal cord. Methods : Data sources: We carried out a comprehensive search of the literature on the physiologic patterns of 18 F-FDG distribution in the spinal cord. PubMed and Scopus databases were searched using the following keywords: "spinal cord" AND "FDG". Data extraction: Findings of the selected articles were described. Results : Thirteen studies comprising 24,125 patients entered the systematic review. These investigations showed discrepancies in location, size, number, and intensity of 18 F-FDG uptake throughout the spinal cord. However, cumulative results showed that 18 F-FDG uptake was higher in the lower thoracic portion of spinal cord (T11-T12). Moreover, a decreasing trend in 18 F-FDG uptake was observed from cervical to lumbar levels. Low maximal standardized uptake values, female sex, and higher body weight seem to be related to the physiological spinal cord 18 F-FDG uptake. Conclusions : On 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging, focal hypermetabolism of the spinal cord at the level of lower thoracic and lower cervical vertebrae should be considered physiological until proven otherwise.

The aim of this study was to collect data and provide information on clinical diagnosis of disease, methods of dissemination, prevention and treatment of human linguatuliasis in order to increase people's awareness and health care. In this study case reports of individuals in Iran those infected with the Linguatula serrata were taken from the international databases ( e.g. , Medline (PubMed), Scopus, Iranmedex, Scientific Information Database, and Irandoc) and reviewed. The review covers the case reports of human tongue worm infection published either in Persian or in English between the years 1980-2018. An individual researcher undertook the bibliographic search and evaluation of articles based on inclusion/exclusion of specific criteria. Cases of infection have been reported in eight provinces of Iran. Dietary habits play the important roles in the transmission of the parasite. Clinical diagnosis was achieved by obtaining a patient's history, then completing a clinical examination of the mentioned patients. Symptoms of infection were mainly observed in the upper respiratory tract in most reports, the patient's status was improved by removing the parasite from the infected organ. Given that viscera of slaughtered livestock plays a significant role in the transmission of this infection to humans, Careful inspection of slaughtered livestock in slaughterhouses and Preventing the slaughter of livestock illegally and unsanitary, outside the slaughterhouse, is important. The severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spread rapidly all over the world in late 2019 and caused critical illness and death in some infected patients. This study aimed at examining several laboratory factors, especially inflammatory and immunological mediators, to identify severity and mortality associated biomarkers. Ninety-three hospitalized patients with confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were classified based on disease severity. The levels of biochemical, hematological, immunological, and inflammatory mediators were assessed, and their association with severity and mortality were evaluated. Hospitalized patients were mostly men (77.4%) with an average (standard deviation) age of 59.14 (14.81) years. The mortality rate was significantly higher in critical patients (85.7%). Increased serum levels of blood sugar, urea, creatinine, uric acid, phosphorus, total bilirubin, serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, lactic dehydrogenase, C-reactive protein, ferritin, and procalcitonin were significantly prevalent (p=0.002, p<0.001, p<0.001, p=0.014, p=0.047, p=0.003, p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.001, P<0.001, and p<0.001, respectively) in COVID-19 patients. Decreased red blood cell, hemoglobin, and hematocrit were significantly prevalent among COVID-19 patients than healthy control subjects (p<0.001 for all). Troponin-I, interleukin-6, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), procalcitonin, and D-dimer showed a significant association with the mortality of patients with specificity and sensitivity more than 60%. Age, sex, underlying diseases, blood oxygen pressure, complete blood count along with C-reactive protein, lactic dehydrogenase, procalcitonin, D-dimer, and interleukin-6 evaluation help to predict the severity and required management for COVID-19 patients. Further investigations are highly recommended in a larger cohort study for validation of the present findings.

Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation tool appropriate to modulate cortical oscillations and activity via the application of weak currents. The major goal of this study was to investigate the effects of medial Prefrontal Cortex (mPFC) stimulation on sustained attention task performance measured by Rapid Visual Information Processing (RVIP) task and the brain networks assumed to be critical to sustained attention. mPFC has been shown to be involved in sustained attention performance and as a main hub in default mode network (DMN). mPFC activity modulation via theta tACS was implemented in this study. This was a single blind study with 21 participants receiving active and sham stimulation with the electrodes on FPz and the Inion. tACS was able to impact different RVIP measures (total hits, A' (sensitivity to target), total correct rejection, etc.). Relative power spectrum density (PSD) analysis yielded significant increases in theta frequency mostly in the fronto-central regions after active tACS and current source density (CSD) analysis yielded significant power modulations in theta frequency band in post-central gyrus. Furthermore, phase locking value (PLV) analysis showed that there were significant changes in cortical connections in the Dorsal Attention Network (DAN) in alpha frequency band. This study showed that theta frequency tACS over mPFC, was able to produce significant modulations in an RVIP task and its associated brain networks in healthy participants.

Tamoxifen (TAM), the most widely used anti-estrogenic drug, inhibits the progression of breast cancer through competing with estrogen for binding to the estrogen receptor (ER). Tamoxifen has been the first-line adjuvant endocrine therapy in pre- and postmenopausal patients with ER + breast cancer for two decades. However, due to its side effects, interest in using anticancer agents derived from natural foods has increased. It has recently been stated that some probiotics can improve the efficacy of anticancer drugs via synergistic effects. Here, Local Probiotic Lactobacillus Brevis were isolated and characterized from dairy products and its supernatant was prepared. Proliferation of MCF-7, a breast cancer cell line, was investigated after treatment with Lactobacillus Brevis supernatant (LBS) solely, and in combination with Tamoxifen. In Vitro trials were performed to assess the LBS potency. Bax and Bcl-2 mRNA expression levels and apoptotic effects after these treatments were examined by qRT-PCR and flow cytometry, respectively. The results indicated that LBS induces apoptosis in MCF-7 at high concentrations. Transcription of Bcl-2 was reduced but Bax mRNA expression was enhanced. Tamoxifen's inhibitory effect on the cell growth was synergistically augmented by LBS. In addition, we found that the Bcl-2 mRNA levels in the cells exposed to TAM/LBS were lower than in those treated with TAM alone. Our findings suggest potential role of LB as an adjuvant therapy in cancer treatment and prevention; along with its underlying mechanism.

Dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) is a key structure in dorsal attention network (DAN) that facilitates sustained attention by modulating activity in task related and unrelated regions of the brain. Alpha and theta frequency bands enhance connectivity among different parts of the attention network and these connections are facilitated by long-range nonlinear connectivity in theta and alpha frequency bands. This study is an investigation of the behavioral and electrophysiological effects of alpha and theta frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) over RDLPFC. 20 healthy participants were randomly assigned to two groups of theta (n = 11, f = 6 Hz) and alpha (n = 9, f = 10 Hz) rTMS. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was recorded before and after each session while resting and performing tasks. Current source density (CSD) and functional connectivity (FC) in DAN and default mode network (DMN) and their correlations with rapid visual information processing task (RVIP) scores were calculated . Alpha frequency rTMS resulted in significant changes in RVIP scores. Active theta rTMS caused an increase in CSD in Postcentral gyrus and active alpha rTMS resulted in significant CSD changes in inferior parietal lobule (IPL). Theta lagged nonlinear connectivity was mudulated by alpha rTMSand FC changes were observed in DAN and DMN. Positive correlations were observed between DAN regions and RVIP scores in the alpha rTMS group. Increased activity in theta frequency band in left aPFC and left DLPFC correlated positively with higher total hits in RVIP. Context: One of the most important issues in patients with coronary artery disease is their mental health indices such as perceived stress and perception of disease., Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based intervention on the perceived stress and disease perception of patients with acute coronary syndrome., Materials and Methods: This is a clinical trial, two-group, and three-stage study on 76 patients with acute coronary syndrome who were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. Nine weekly sessions of mindfulness-based training program were administered to the intervention group. The control group received routine services during this period. Data collection was done before, immediately, and 1 month after the intervention, using the Perceived Stress Scale and the Illness Perception Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics., Results: There was no significant difference between the mean scores of perceived stress and illness perception before intervention. Background: Sulfur mustard (SM) exposure produces extensive systemic and ocular adverse effects on the victims. One of the most important effects is immunological insults that can lead to other organ damages, including the eyes., Methods: In this descriptive study, 128 SM-exposed veterans with severe eye injury were compared with 31 healthy controls. Tear levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and serum concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1α, IL-1β, IL1Ra, IL-6, TNF-α, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and Fas Ligand (FasL) were compared between the two groups., Results: Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD); tear breakup time (TBUT < 10″); and conjunctival, limbal, and corneal abnormalities were more frequent among the cases (MS-exposed veterans) than the controls. Ocular involvement was mild in 14.8%, moderate in 24.2%, and severe in 60.9% of the cases. Serum levels of IL-1α and FasL were significantly higher among the cases than among the controls (P < 0.001 and P = 0.037, respectively). Also, a significant decrease was observed in serum and tear levels of TNF-α in the cases as compared with controls (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, respectively). Serum levels of FasL were significantly higher in cases with severe ocular involvement than in the controls (P = 0.03). Nonetheless, serum levels of IL-1β, IL-1Ra, IL-1α/IL-1Ra, and IL-6 were not significantly different between the two groups., Conclusion: Serum levels of IL-1α and FasL may cause different ocular surface abnormalities in SM-exposed patients. Background: Despite considerable advances in nano-photo-thermal therapy (NPTT), there have been a few studies reporting in-depth kinetics of cell death triggered by such a new modality of cancer treatment., Objective: In this study, we aimed to (1) investigate the cell death pathways regulating the apoptotic responses to NPTT; and (2) ascertain the effect of NPTT on cell cycle progression., Methods: Folate conjugated gold nanoparticle (F-AuNP) was firstly synthesized, characterized and then assessed to determine its potentials in targeted NPTT. The experiments were conducted on KB nasopharyngeal cancer cells overexpressing folate receptors (FRs), as the model, and L929 normal fibroblast cells with a low level of FRs, as the control. Cytotoxicity was evaluated by MTT assay and the cell death mode (i.e., necrosis or apoptosis) was determined through AnnexinV/FITC-propidium iodide staining. Next, the gene expression profiles of some key apoptotic factors involved in the mitochondrial signaling pathway were investigated using RT-qPCR. Finally, cell cycle phase distribution was investigated at different time points post NPTT using flow cytometric analysis., Results: The obtained results showed that KB cell death following targeted NPTT was greater than that observed for L929 cells. The majority of KB cell death following NPTT was related to apoptosis. RT-qPCR analysis indicated that the elevated expression of Bax along with the depressed expression of Bcl-xL, Survivin and XIAP may involve in the regulation of apoptosis in response to NPTT. Flow cytometric analysis manifested that 16-24 hours after NPTT, the major proportion of KB cells was in the most radiosensitive phases of the cell cycle (G2/M)., Conclusion: This study extended the understanding of the signaling pathway involved in the apoptotic response to NPTT. Determining depression symptoms in schizophrenic patients is a challenging process because of a degree of similarity between depression symptoms and negative symptoms and the extrapyramidal side effects of neuroleptic drugs, but it is crucial to evaluate and measure depression among patients with schizophrenia for a better clinical outcome. The Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS) is a valid and reliable instrument used for the evaluation of depression in schizophrenia. This study aimed to determine the psychometric properties of the Persian version of CDSS in a sample of people with schizophrenia. Clinical interviews were conducted with 95 schizophrenic patients (40 inpatients and 55 outpatients), who were assessed with the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS-17 and HDRS-24 items), and the Calgary Depression Rating Scale (CDSS). Then an exploratory factor analysis was conducted to determine correlations between scales, Cronbach's alpha, and cutoff scores. The factor analysis led to the extraction of a unifactorial solution. The CDSS had significant relationships with PANSS Negative and PANSS General. However, it had no significant relationship with PANSS Positive and the PANSS Total. The CDSS also had significant relationships with HDRS-17 and HDRS-24. In addition, Cronbach's alpha of total score, test-retest reliability, and cutoff score were estimated at 0.86, 0.82, and 8 (sensitivity = 0.79 and specificity = 0.84), respectively. The findings support the CDSS unifactorial approach. Results also showed that the CDSS Persian version had acceptable psychometric properties; thus, it could be employed to evaluate depression among schizophrenic patients., (Copyright © 2019. We present benign high-flow priapism with intensive F-FDG uptake as an unusual finding in a case of testicular teratocarcinoma with a history of left orchiectomy and chemotherapy. F-FDG PET/CT scan showed pulmonary metastases, left obturator node involvement, and intense F-FDG uptake in the penis. Upon examination, the patient had a painless erection that lasted for couple of days. Because of pulmonary metastases, second-line chemotherapy regimen was started by his physician. The patient's priapism resolved spontaneously, with no episode of recurrence at 2 years' follow-up.
