Background: In the process of sperm cryopreservation, apart from cryoinjury, the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) can adversely affect the integrity of chromatin and cellular membranes. Addition of natural antioxidants to freezing medium is an approach to reduce the destructive effects of ROS on sperm., Methods: In this study, during 60 min of cooling process, the ejaculates of five stallions were diluted in the following media: INRA 82 medium as Control (C), INRA 82 medium supplemented with 0.25% Sericin (S), INRA 82 medium supplemented with 1.5 mM Glutathione (G), and INRA 82 medium supplemented with 0.25% Sericin+1.5 mM Glutathione (S+G)., Results: In the frozen/thawed sericin supplemented group, while the integrity of DNA and the activity of catalase and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) were increased, the lipid peroxidation and midpieceab normality decreased, compared with other groups (p<0.05). The proportions of sperms with abnormal head in group S and the sperm with distal droplet in G and S+G groups decreased, compared with group C (p<0.05). In CTC assay, the percentage of capacitated spermatozoa in treatment groups was lower than control (p<0.01)., Conclusion: In conclusion, the presence of sericin in freezing medium of stallion semen could improve sperm DNA integrity and its resistance to ROS and lipid peroxidation.

Objective: This study aims to assess the intern's beliefs about mental illness, their attitude towards psychiatry and psychiatry as a career choice., Methods: In a cross-sectional design, one hundred and seventy six interns from the two medical colleges completed the Belief about Mental illness scale and Attitudes Towards Psychiatry (ATP-29) scale., Results: Majority of the interns considered mentally ill patients as dangerous, unpredictable, cannot take up major responsibilities, cannot be a good parent, have poor interpersonal or social skills. The attitude towards psychiatry overall, functioning of a psychiatrist, efficacy of psychiatry treatment was found to be good in over 90% of the interns. The attitude towards career and reward aspect of psychiatry was not favorable in about 40%. About 13% considered psychiatry as a career choice., Conclusions: Beliefs about mental illness continue to be negative. Though the attitude towards psychiatry, psychiatrist and treatment efficacy is good, the social and reward aspects of psychiatry are not encouraging. Objective: To find out prevalence of psychiatric morbidity in urban slum community in Mumbai., Methods: A cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted in a health post area of Dharavi, a large slum in Asia. Systematic random sampling was employed to select households, the sampling unit in this study. All individuals aged 15 and above were eligible to participate in the study. Individuals willing to participate were interviewed with symptoms checklist - 90 for identifying those with psychiatric illness. All individuals identified with a psychiatric disorder on the basis of the symptoms check list were invited for a clinical interview conducted by a psychiatrist. Univariate and multi-variate analysis was carried out with help of SPSS., Results: The prevalence of psychiatric conditions was found to be 12.5%, much higher compared to previous studies. Affective disorders were the most common accounting for 42.7% of the total morbidity, followed by anxiety disorders (30.7%) and psychoses (21.3%). The adjusted odds ratios for psychiatric disorder were significantly higher for illiterates and those with primary education only (2.4), unemployed (2.1) and those with family history of a psychiatric disorder (1.9)., Conclusions: The high prevalence of psychiatric morbidity calls for primary psychiatric services to be made available to all and integrated with the primary health care. Hysterical aphonia is characterized by abrupt loss of voice without neurological or laryngeal cause and is preceded by conflicts or other stressor. This case report describes the use offaradic stimuli in a case of recurrent hysterical aphonia.
