Abstract Marine recreational fisheries often lack necessary information to perform assessments and develop sustainable management strategies. In Chile, although reef‐fish fisheries have been signaled as overexploited, there are still no commercial or recreational regulations regarding bans, catch limits, or size limits. We implemented an expert elicitation protocol to propose management measures to regulate recreational reef‐fish harvests of 17 reef‐fish species. Sixteen experts estimated minimum legal sizes, temporal closures, and maximum number of individuals harvested per person per trip (known as “bag limits”). Experts also prioritized management measures for each of 17 reef‐fish species. Maximum number of individuals harvested per person per trip varied between 1 and 7. In addition, permanent bans were recommended for some species, such as acha (Medialuna ancietae), pejeperro (Semicossyphus darwini), and San Pedro (Oplegnathus insignis). We concluded that information gathered through expert elicitation can play a key role to inform data‐poor recreational fishery management. Expert elicitation protocols that include iterative process, based on individual estimates and an open expert discussion phase, provide the necessary enabling environment to identify a variety of management measures. While future challenges include the development of mechanisms to promote acceptability and compliance for recreational fisheries management, the approach presented here is important to initiate much needed discussions.

The lymphatic kidney system plays a crucial role in managing interstitial fluid removal, regulating fluid balance, and tuning immune response. It also assists in the reabsorption of proteins, electrolytes, cytokines, growth factors, and immune cells. Pathological conditions, including tissue damage, excessive interstitial fluid, high blood glucose levels, and inflammation, can initiate lymphangiogenesis—the formation of new lymphatic vessels. This process is associated with various kidney diseases, including polycystic kidney disease, hypertension, ultrafiltration challenges, and complications post-organ transplantation. Although lymphangiogenesis has beneficial effects in removing excess fluid and immune cells, it may also contribute to inflammation and fibrosis within the kidneys. In this review, we aim to discuss the biology of the lymphatic system, from its development and function to its response to disease stimuli, with an emphasis on renal pathophysiology. Furthermore, we explore how innovative treatments targeting the lymphatic system could potentially enhance the management of kidney diseases.

This memoir takes a whimsical ride through my professional adventures, spotlighting my fungal stress research on the insect-pathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii, which transformed many of my wildest dreams into reality. Imagine the magic of fungi meeting science and me, a happy researcher, arriving at Utah State University ready to dive deep into studies with the legendary insect pathologist, my advisor Donald W. Roberts, and my co-advisor Anne J. Anderson. From my very first "Aha!" moment in the lab, I plunged into a vortex of discovery, turning out research like a mycelium on a mission. Who knew 18 h/day, seven days a week, could be so exhilarating? I was fueled by an insatiable curiosity, boundless creativity, and a perhaps slightly alarming level of motivation. Years later, I managed to bring my grandest vision to life: the International Symposium on Fungal Stress--ISFUS. This groundbreaking event has attracted 162 esteemed speakers from 29 countries to Brazil, proving that fungi can be both fun and globally fascinating. The aim of this multicenter cross-sectional study was to preliminary validate the 88-item Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM-88) for use in children/adolescents with cancer, exploring internal consistency and floor/ceiling effect. Inclusion criteria regarded children/adolescents diagnosed with cancer on treatment or <1 year off therapy. The internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's α, and the floor–ceiling effects were calculated through percentage. This study involved 217 participants with heterogeneous neoplasm conditions. Internal consistency was good, with a Cronbach's α of 0.989. Floor–ceiling effect analysis reveals that several items obtained a dichotomous scoring distribution in each of the five sub-scales of the GMFM-88. This can be explained by the heterogeneous clinical characteristics of the target population. The preliminary validation of GMFM-88 in a group of children/adolescents affected by cancer suggests that some items are not able to discriminate between different gross motor function levels, and therefore it does not represent an informative tool to measure gross motor function in children with cancer. The Residences of the Royal House of Savoy in Piedmont entered the World Heritage List in 1997: they are elements of a serial site, monumental architecture, gardens and parks, which characterise the former capital city (Turin) and a vast extra-urban territorial segment, on which many restoration and valorisation policies have focused in recent years. However, in their heterogeneity, each of the assets reveals some unresolved spaces, which institutional protection must oversee and simultaneously express particular cultural potential. The contribution aims to illustrate projects developed in contact with the management reality of some of these Residences, in particular Aglié, Govone and Racconigi, in agreement with the preservation institutes and owners. Cogent issues in the debate on restoration emerge, such as, among others, the search for a balance between conservation and innovation and the pursuit of quality in intervention, in the face of a renewed cultural demand affected by the difficult historical period we are going through.

Renal-limited hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is a rare clinical setting characterized by abnormal activation of the immune system. Fever associated with pancytopenia, hepatosplenomegaly with liver dysfunction, and hypofibrinogenemia are usually observed in HPS. From a histological level, the presence of non-malignant macrophages infiltrating bone marrow and organs represents the hallmark of this condition. Non-malignant macrophages are associated with phagocytizing activities involving other blood cells. While primary HPS is usually associated with inherited dysregulation of the immune system, secondary HPS usually occurs in the context of infection or is linked to a neoplastic process. Clinical presentation varies and can potentially lead to life-threatening settings. While renal involvement has frequently been reported, however, detailed descriptions of the kidney manifestations of HPS are lacking. More critically, the diagnosis of HPS is rarely supported by renal biopsy specimens. We report four rare cases of biopsy-proven renal-limited HPS in patients presenting with acute kidney injury (AKI). The available evidence on this topic is critically discussed in light of the possible emergence of an autonomous entity characterized by an isolated kidney involvement.

Background: We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of an intensified B-cell depletion induction therapy (IBCDT) without immunosuppressive maintenance regimen compared with standard of care in biopsy-proven lupus nephritis (LN). Methods: Thirty patients were administered an IBCDT (4 weekly rituximab [RTX] 375 mg/m2 and 2 more doses after 1 and 2 months; 2 infusions of 10 mg/kg cyclophosphamide [CYC], 3 methylprednisolone pulses), followed by oral prednisone (tapered to 5 mg/d by the third month). No immunosuppressive maintenance therapy was given. Thirty patients matched for LN class and age were selected as controls: 20 received 3 methylprednisolone pulses days followed by oral prednisone and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) 2 to 3 g/d, whereas 10 were given the Euro Lupus CYC. MMF (1-2 g/daily) or azathioprine (AZA, 1-2 mg/kg/day) were given for > 3 years as a maintenance therapy. Results: At 12 months, complete renal remission was observed in 93% of patients on IBCDT, in 62.7% on MMF, and in 75% on CYC (P = 0.03); the dose of oral prednisone was lower in the IBCDT group (mean ± SD 2.9 ± 5.0 mg/dl) than MMF (10.5 ± 8.0 mg/d, P < 0.01) or CYC group (7.5 ± 9.0 mg/d, P < 0.01). Mean follow-up after treatment was 44.5 months (interquartile range [IQR] 36–120 months), 48.6 months (IQR 36–120 months), and 45.3 (IQR 36–120 months) for IBCDT, MMF, and CYC, respectively. At their last follow-up visit, we observed no significant differences in proteinuria and serum creatinine, nor in the frequency of new flares among the 3 groups. Conclusion: In biopsy-proven LN, the IBCDT without further immunosuppressive maintenance therapy was shown to be as effective as conventional regimen of MMF or CYC followed by >3-year maintenance either MMF or AZA regimen. Moreover, the use of IBCDT was associated with a marked reduction of glucocorticoid cumulative dose.
