The objective of this article is to investigate the influence of CEO narcissistic personality traits on the indebtedness of Brazilian non-financial companies listed on the B3. Other research on narcissistic traits has focused on their impact on the profitability of organizations. Thus, this study aims to fill the gap in understanding the impact of CEO narcissistic traits on companies' debt decisions and their determinants by including a psychological characteristic. This research is relevant because it helps academics, business professionals and policymakers to identify patterns and trends that could warn of possible financial crises. The impact of this article is related to the evidence on the effects of hiring narcissistic CEOs on indebtedness, since understanding the interaction between the CEO's profile and the company's financial decisions can provide practical guidelines for risk management and informed decision making, thus contributing to the field of business strategy and corporate finance. A sample of 299 non-financial companies was analyzed from 2011 to 2020, using data from the Economática database, annual reports, integrated reports, sustainability reports and management reports. Two proxies were used to measure narcissistic personality traits, based on the CEO's signature and the prominence of his or her photo. Indebtedness was measured by the following indicators: onerous, total, short-term and long-term debt. The results show that the greater the narcissistic traits of the CEOs, the greater the indebtedness of the organizations. This contributes to a deeper understanding of the factors that influence companies' financial decisions, since identifying the factors that lead to risky debt decisions can enable the implementation of preventive measures and more effective risk management strategies. One of the driving forces behind Gregorio Prieto's artistic production is a clear narcissistic impulse evident in the large number of self-portraits present both in his paintings and, above all, in the photographic series of his youth produced during his stay in Rome between 1928 and 1933. Through the screen of admiration for the classical world and the incorporation of avant-garde languages -especially Surrealism- he constructed a sort of imagined biography in which the self-portrait functions as a form of affirmation of a self conscious of navigating in the realm of "difference". In contrast to some of his homosexual peers of his generation -such as Lorca or Cernuda- there is no sign in his work of an anguished or unsettling vision of the homosexual experience; on the contrary, his work achieves a radically avant-garde (homo)sexual disinhibition.

In constructing the theory of mimetic desire, Girard comments on Freud's work on multiple occasions. In fact, almost all of the themes addressed by Girard have resonance in psychoanalysis: desire, mimesis, violence, collective homicide, the emergence of culture--each of these concepts exists in Freud's work. However, the Girardian reading always displaces these concepts to think them under the light of a unique mechanism that does not introduce any rupture nor discontinuity. In this text, I show how, according to Girard, Freudian concepts suffer from an original difficulty that lies in the fact that Freud was never able to break away from an objectual conception of desire. - Abstract
This article presents some contributions of psychoanalysis to understand the subjective and political aspects of hatred. In the current Brazilian sociopolitical context, hatred has figured as a predominant discourse, thus, spaces like digital social networks have become a fertile field for its propagation and legitimation, sometimes with the support and instigation of the public institutional apparatus. This study has as its starting point the critical reflection of Freudian texts that address concepts of identification and narcissism, central to understanding what mobilizes and enhances the incidence of this emotion, as well as its effects in contemporary times. In this analysis, it was found that hatred always appears in relationships based on intolerance to differences that might represent a threat to the subject's narcissistic illusions. Although it is considered a constitutive emotion of the human being, hatred is also a cultural, social and political phenomenon, and can become potentially destructive for humanity if used to segregate people and groups in order to eliminate differences.

In light of the mass use of generative artificial intelligences such as ChatGPT, a psychoanalytic reflection is made on the advancement of human relationships with digital technologies that simulate forms of subjective alterity. It is proposed to consider the participation of the structural duality mortal-immortal self in the ways these relationships are carried out, their scope and their consequences for our consideration of what we experience as an other. Digital stimulism is proposed as a complex that accounts for new soul diseases related to the use of contemporary digital technologies, serving the megalomaniacal expansion of the immortal self. - Abstract
Since Freud’s time, psychoanalysts have been keen on exploring the world of art and creativity; trying to analyse, with various methodologies, both the authors and the works. Less frequent is the attempt to use our tools to investigate the particular ability – which is itself a creative expression – of those who interpret the works of others; the so-called allographic arts, as opposed to the autographic ones. It is also significant that the exercise of interpretation is crucial in psychoanalytic therapy. In order to investigate the paths of interpretation, the author uses the “case” of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli in his relationship with the composers whose works he performed and with the audience that adored him.

- Abstract
The present research (N=393) aimed to verify the dimensionality and reliability of the Brief Aggression Questionnaire (BAQ), its items' difficulty and discrimination levels, and explore the relations with general and dark personality traits. The bifactorial model was the most adequate (CFI=.98, TLI=.98), presenting acceptable reliability, besides items with a difficult endorsement level and moderate to very high discrimination. We also found that the four BAQ factors consistently correlated with neuroticism and agreeableness traits. They were also related to psychopathy, Machiavellianism and narcissism, reinforcing the validity of the measure based on correlations with external variables. In conclusion, the present research contributes by providing a short, valid and accurate measure of aggression to the Brazilian context, in addition to replicating and extending previous studies on the relations between personality and aggression. Studies on the socio-environmental risks are frequents. Scientists warn that if no immediate action is taken, it is life itself on the planet that will be in danger. This research aimed to identify and analyze, under the focus of Social Psychology and the Philosophy of Difference, experiences of affective sustainability in the urban space. Adopting a methodology strategy of oral history, we sought to follow the reports of participants linked a superior institution of studies who were willing to share the affective impacts resulting from your urban relation in pandemic station. The reports were analytically organized in two axes: 1. deterritorialization and fears, and 2. narcissistic frustrations and biopolitical restrictions. The results show that the first perceptions were marked by surprise, anguish and fear. It concluded that affectively sustaining this experience is still a challenge posed for collectivity in its interface with the cities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives. The spectrum of suicidal behavior is a core factor of the prognosis and care of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The aim of this study is to identify possible BPD specific personality traits that could act as protective factors of nonsuicidal self-injuries (NSSI). Methods. We performed a cross-sectional, observational and retrospective study of a sample of 134 BPD patients aged from 18 to 56. We assessed the presence or absence of suicidal behavior and NSSI as well as different sociodemographic variables. Millon, Zuckerman-Kuhlman and Structured Clinical Interview for DSM personality questionnaires were also applied. The analysis of the association between variables was carried out with a multivariate negative binomial logistic regression model. Results. A statistically significant association between NSSI and suicidal behavior was found. Elseways, statistically significant differences were also found in the association between NSSI and the SCID variables for Narcissistic Disorder, which appears as protective variables. These results provide an idea of the dynamic relationship between NSSI and suicidal behavior in a BPD population with particularly severe characteristics. Conclusions. The role of narcissistic personality traits appears to be important in identifying protective factors for NSSI and suicidal behavior in BPD patients and could be the subject of further research projects. In the era change we are living, what God calls to the Church about her social action? According to Caritas in veritate 56, from the end of the XIX century has been promoting a rivendicative action of the christian religion citizenship status: it was the born of the Church Social Doctrine. The Second Vatican Council privileged the dialogical action, how explained by Ecclesiam suam. Both ones would be done today as believer, that is not indulging the evaluation wordly logic, typical of nichilism. This logic is founded on an affective and existential insecurity, which shape social world to a sistemic society. Christian could take charge only by the cross madness radicality. ATTITUDE change (Psychology) , *PARABLES , *INDIVIDUAL needs , *PSYCHOANALYSIS , *FATHER-child relationship , *PARTICIPATION , *FATHERS - Abstract
Parables demand our direct unconscious participation to their hidden face of the symbol, towards a conscious elaboration of the needs. The conscious elaboration will depend on the immediate unconscious identification with the respective character. In the case of the parable of the Prodigal Son, we have basically three: the kind father, the servile firstborn son, and the rebellious last-born genie. Each one requires a particular psychic elaboration, which, in turn, needs to be articulated with that of the others. Therefore, without changing the attitude of all those involved towards himself and others, problems tend to be repeated, even upon the return of the protestant son. Therefore, the real elaboration, is left open to our further participation. To this aim, the use of psychoanalysis can help us to perceive the conflicts at stake, from our unconscious participation in the psychic dimension of the manifest characters of the parable. These points to a fixation in different stages of the preoedipal period; therefore, each of the participants, on this family triad, has its own challenge: the father, to the awareness of the individual needs of the children and of each other; the firstborn, to the awareness that staying at home means, for hence, refusing to live autonomy and the last-genie, to the awareness that losing oneself and dying can be the beginning of meeting and living. STRUCTURAL equation modeling , *SOCIAL comparison , *SOCIAL impact , *DATA modeling , *TEST validity - Abstract
Purpose: Faced with a widespread perception that experiencing a calling brings positive results for a person's career, and also that such callings have an altruistic origin, the present study aims to assess whether the orientation towards social comparison impacts the perception of experiencing a calling and, furthermore, whether narcissism affects the relationship between the calling and the individual's commitment to his career and to the organization. Design/methodology/approach: Using structural equation modeling for data modeling, the measurement model was evaluated - discriminant validity, convergent validity and reliability. Research, Practical & Social implications: The study brings theoretical and practical contributions by presenting positive consequences for the career from personal characteristics considered negative, and that these characteristics do not necessarily bring negative effects on the individual's commitment to the organization. Originality/value: The study proves to be relevant in its theoretical and practical contributions, either by expanding the literature on occupational calls, exploring antecedents usually seen as negative to the career, or by offering new elements for professionals and recruiters to guide career-related decisions. The article analyzes Freud, Abraham, and Klein's ideas about mourning and melancholia. Freud differentiates melancholia from normal mourning through narcissistic identification, while Abraham emphasizes the loss of the object and its relationship with erogenous zones. Klein focuses on depressive anxieties related to weaning. Klein's ideas differ from those of Freud and Abraham by not including references to narcissism in the process of mourning and melancholia.

It seems quite interesting that during adolescence anxiety levels can spiral out of control. This is due to several factors; one of the possible determinants is personality traits such as narcissism. Contrary to high self-esteem being a predictive factor of mental health, narcissism needs self-esteem in order to be beneficial for a person. Therefore, as two factors of personality traits, self-esteem and narcissism need to be distinguished from each other. Narcissistic individuals try to meet their affirmation needs by setting perfcctionistic goals and significant relationships between perfectionism dimensions and anxiety has been revealed in the related literature. Using a structural equation modeling, this study investigated the mediation role of perfecdonism dimensions in the relationships between grandiose narcissistic personality trait and trait anxiety when self-esteem was controlled. A sample of 338 adolescents (192 females, 146 males, mean age = 15.84 years, SD = 1.01) from five high schools participated in the study, line participants completed the instruments including the Demographic Information Form aimed to gather personal information, the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale, the trait anxiety dimension of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Child and Adolescents Perfectionism Scale, and the Narcissistic Personality Inventory. Findings revealed that adaptive perfectionism mediated the relationship between grandiose narcissism and trait anxiety when self-esteem was controlled. This study indicates that practitioners working with adolescents should focus on interventions, which aimed to decrease pcrfectionistic tendencies of adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Fear is an emotion that is experienced in response to events that undermine one's sense of personal security. Patients with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) experience fear when they find themselves in situations, especially interpersonal ones, in which they see themselves as weak, as losers or victims and wait for others to respond violently or threateningly to their wishes. At that point, patients implement specific coping strategies to manage fear such as fight or flee, anger and rumination. In this work, the authors describe fear as a primary emotion and decline it within narcissistic functioning, in turn linked to interpersonal maladaptive schemas and narcissistic copings from the perspective of interpersonal metacognitive therapy. The aim of this paper is to show how fear can be traced in the experience of NPD-affected patients and included in case formulation in order to plan a more precise and effective treatment. RACIAL differences , *NARCISSISM , *TEST validity , *PSYCHOANALYSIS , *RESEARCH methodology - Abstract
Freud's proposition of the Oedipus complex raised a controversial debate around the universal validity of this construct and its scope as an invariable outside the European-civilizing framework. This article aims to locate the particularity of Frantz Fanon's contribution to this debate. The hypothesis is that, through the sentence that proclaims the insufficiency of Oedipus in the domains of colonization, Fanon finds ways to enunciate the disregard of racial difference in psychoanalysis. In a perspective that is based on a methodology of bibliographic research, we assume a critical line that connects the complex in question to the Lacanian notion of the mirror stage. With this, we will show how the refusal of the Oedipal model serves Fanon to circumscribe the limits of an abstract model that, disregarding the racial marking, does not pay attention to the difference of the colonial situation, which manufactures the black in a condition of subalternity. For the black one, the trauma does not result from a re-edition of Oedipal mechanics but from meeting with the white world. Thus, at first, we will present Fanon's critique of Oedipus and then point out how it individually reflects Fanon's interlocution with Lacan's first formulation of the imaginary. Finally, we will indicate how central elements of the complex - sexuality, and narcissism - allow Fanon to present the construction of the black as a myth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In this article, I discuss the peculiar 'agencies' attributed to the child/childhood under neoliberalism as a symptom of its crises and antagonisms, with a focus also on practical struggles and solidarities such analyses might promote/afford. Specifically, the theme of this Special Issue aligns with an approach I have named 'Child as method', which analyses the geopolitical dynamics and intersections performed and resisted by practices around children and childhood. I will start by outlining key starting points for the discussion that follows, such as the relation between the child and (neo)liberalism, and the child as a site of consumption/display. I outline the ways the child, as a cypher for the modern late capitalist European subject, has been aligned with imperialism, colonialism and extractive racial capitalism as a particular reading of Freud's 'His Majesty the Baby'. Following this, I explore a range of subject (including affective) positions accorded children (which children themselves may sometimes occupy), as an expression of Child as Method's commitments to map how 'child' reflects and contributes to transnational geopolitical dynamics, in the service of identifying new subjective possibilities and relations. How was transexual identity represented in fiction during the turning to the 20th century? Hardly recognized by so called cientific literature and modalities of sexuality, trans identity was restricted to the “homossexual” category. Han Ryner’s novel, La Fille manquée (1903), questions such theories, by underlining the complexities of human nature. From this scope, we propose here an interpretation of its main character, François (“the failed girl” from the title, an expression designating the male homosexual) and his/her suffering as being incapable of fully conceiving his feminine identity, indicated in many parts of the narrative. For such, we refer to (pseudo)scientific discourses of the 19th centuries, which are reviewed by the author, and to studies by Freud, namely about Leonardo Da Vinci and the concept of narcissism, considering the structure of the novel, the character construction and the literary contexto of that time.

- Abstract
The present study assessed the fit of an explanatory model of partner retention strategies used by men and women in each of the profiles that make up the dark triad of personality in their long-term romantic relationships. Participants were 324 men and 370 women of Chilean nationality. All of them were in a stable relationship. Through an explanatory design with observable variables, we could demonstrate that narcissism would tend to the use of retention tactics that benefit the partner, while Machiavellianism would use a combination of beneficial and costly tactics. Psychopathy would be the most aggressive profile of the triad, using tactics that entail costs for the partner, even going as far as exercising sexual coercion. These results are similar in men and women. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed and new lines of research are suggested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of narcissism in managers on profit quality and bankruptcy risk. Design/methodology/approach: The present study is applied in terms of purpose and is in positive accounting research. The research data were also collected based on information from sample companies selected by the systematic elimination sampling method. Based on this, 177 companies were selected over ten years, from 2012 to 2021. The research data were extracted annually from Rahavard Novin 3 software. After performing calculations in EXCEL software to enter the relations and hypotheses of the research, they were entered into Eviews software. Findings: The results of the research hypotheses test showed that managers' narcissism significantly affects earnings stability, earnings predictability, earnings relevance, earnings timeliness, and bankruptcy risk. We also found that narcissistic managers could have two positive and negative dimensions and the presence of these managers in the organization increases the quality of earnings but also the risk of bankruptcy. Academic contributions: There is a contribution to the development of knowledge related to the effect of managers' narcissism on the profitability and bankruptcy of organizations. Practical contributions: The presence of narcissistic managers in the organization can have two positive and negative dimensions, and narcissistic characteristics may neutralize their creative talent for the organization. The "pleasure principle" - a Freudian concept as well known and quoted as it is misunderstood - has a firm position in the history of psychoanalysis. "Pleasure" on the other hand does not have its own specific status in our discipline. In an attempt to investigate its complexity, I propose revisiting the opposition between sensual and sexual, as evoked by Sigmund Freud in the 1911 work Contributions to the Psychology of Love, although he uses other terms, speaking of "two currents": one of "tenderness" - characterized by the constan-cy and continuity of affections in the relationship - and the other "sensual" (but we would say passionate today), based instead on the means of climax and discharge of the drive. Introduction: Self-depreciation is a construct rarely studied by psychology, usually considered just a facet opposite to self-esteem. However, the literature presents its relationship with mental health and well-being, indicating the relevance of further investigations. Objective: The present research aimed to develop a measure for self-deprecation. Method: Were conducted two studies, both with 200 brazilian participants (M = 21,73; SD = 5,87). In addition to the developed instrument, the second study used the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Single-Item Self-Esteem Scale, the Single-Item Narcissism Scale and the Aggression Questionnaire. Results: Initially, exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis were performed on the instrument, which indicated a single factor organization, explaining 35 % of the variance and obtaining the reliability of ω = 0,89. The second study sought to carry out confirmatory analysis, calibration analysis, and correlations between self-deprecation, self-esteem, narcissism, and aggression. The scale had a good fit index of adjustment (CFI = 0,97; TLI = 0,97; RMSEA = 0,04; and SRMR = 0,05). There was a negative correlation between self-esteem (r =-0,75) and self-deprecation, as well as a positive one with all aggression factors. Conclusions: The Self-Deprecation Scale showed evidence of factor validity and reliability. Despite this, the limitations of the study are highlighted, especially the use of convenience sampling. It is concluded that the objectives were met. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
