DNA typing is a new method with important applications in forensic medicine. In the present study, we evaluated application of DNA typing in Iran. Loci Hum LPL, Hum Tpox, Hum F13, Hum vw 31A, Hum TH01 and Hum FES/FPS of DNA short tandem repeats were studied. To determine sensitivity of the test, 85 mother-child couples (1020 chromosomes) that were referred to DNA section of legal medicine organization of Iran were included and for determination of it's specificity 42 brother-sister couples (1200 chromosomes) and 58 non-relative couples were examined. The results show lack of mutations in the studied loci and acceptable sensitivity of the test. Of 12 alleles of siblings, there were 2-6 differences, in contrast with 3-9 differences in non-relatives, so the test has 100% specificity in these loci. Considering polymorphism, power of exclusion of these 6 sites was 99%.

In this research, a novel dual-responsive supermagnetic chitosan/iron oxide nanocomposite hydrogel beads (CH/MION) was prepared using sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) as cross linking agent. The prepared CH/MION hydrogel was systematically characterized by Fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) X-ray diffraction (XRD), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). In addition, the CH/MION hydrogel exhibits favorable swelling properties that are sensitive to pH, and external magnetic field (EMF). The drug release behavior of the prepared hydrogel under EMF, and different pHs was also studied. The obtained hydrogel showed considerable temperature, pH, and EMF sensitivity for the in vitro release of Doxorubicin (DOX).These results suggested that the CH/MION hydrogel beads could be a promising candidate for drug delivery applications. Traumatic finger amputation is a widespread preventable public health problem. This study aimed to define the epidemiology of finger amputations to identify important related factors in order to suggest pertinent prevention strategies. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2015 at the main orthopedic referral university hospital of Shiraz. All patients with any type of traumatic finger amputation were included. For each patient a questionnaire including demographic and injury characteristics was filled and analyzed. One hundred patients (92 men and 8 women, mean age: 32.5 ± 18 years) were enrolled. The vast majority of subjects were young men, more than half (53 cases) sustained occupation-related injuries during working time. Finger amputation following severe jammed finger in door was the second most frequent damage (18 %). Approximately 59% of victims labeled inattention during work as the reason of injury. Finger amputations in right hand were equal in frequency to the left one. Amputation of the index and middle fingers were seen as the most common amputated fingers in hands, 27% and 26% respectively. It was found that young beginner worker man with low educational level is at the highest risk of traumatic finger amputation especially with positive history of drug abusing. So, effective interventions such as closer supervision, more training programs, detection of drug addiction, and using safe engineering machines are urgently needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
