application/pdf, 歴史的にみて叛乱や政変、革命と呼ばれる現象はしばしば課税を引き金として起きており、農民叛乱（ワット・タイラーの乱）や清教徒革命を経験したイングランド社会も例外ではなかった。本論の対象はシェイクスピア歴史劇における課税表象である。シェイクスピア歴史劇の課税に注目してみれば歴史劇の顕著な特性を新たに指摘できる可能性があり、とりわけテクストに埋め込まれた同時代の観客・読者の声なき声を聞くことができるのかもしれない。なによりも歴史劇の課税表象を分析すれば、従来のエリザベス朝演劇研究では視角にすら入ってこなかった同時代の王国統治制度における最大の課題が見えてくる。国王大権と議会立法権の間には、課税をめぐってここからはお互い絶対に妥協できない一線が存在したからである。, Scholars of Early Modern English dramas will encounter references to taxation at many points in Shakespeare’s history plays, such as “tenth and fifteenth”, “subsidy”, “benevolence” and “forced loan”, but there has been no proper introduction to the meanings of the terms or their historical contexts in Shakespearean criticism. This paper has three aims: firstly to clarify from both historical and historiographical contexts the fiscal terms referred to in Shakespeare’s history plays: secondly to points out that theatrical representations of taxation in the playhouses of London in the 1590s were in many cases unique, even anachronistic and significantly fictional: and finally to suggest that the representations reflected a constitutional defect of that system from the complaints of contemporary taxpayers against “non-parliamentary taxation”, a heated polemics led to a violent clash, the Civil War.

application/pdf, 近年の『十二夜』批評においてこの喜劇はしばしば「問題劇」あるいは「暗い喜劇」に分類され、アーデン第三版の編者は「とらえどころのない劇」とまで表現している。本論は『十二夜』をシェイクスピア時代の社会的コンテクストから分析し、この劇作品がもともとどのような喜劇であったかを指摘したい。『十二夜』を上演する娯楽産業の従事者たち、『十二夜』を描いた当の劇作家、そして1602 年頃の平日昼間にグローブ座で『十二夜』を観劇していた観客たちの多くが浮浪者と認定されかねないグレーゾーンで暮らしていた。本論は『十二夜』の登場人物たちが同時代の観客の同化を促すよう浮浪者のイメージと重なりあうように作り上げられ、劇中の小唄でも浮浪者の不安が語られる現象を指摘する。 Recent Shakespeare criticism has often mentioned Twelfth Night, or What You Will as ‘a problem play’, ‘a dark comedy’, or even ‘an elusive play’. This paper aims to clarify the essence of the play as an Elizabethan comedy, focusing on its own social context. English society in the 16th century produced a potentially criminal minority technically termed vagabonds or rogues through a series of so-called Poor Laws. Being what were called ‘common players’, Shakespeare in his ‘masterless’ Stratford-upon-Avon years, his players, and the audience crowded in the Globe theatre who just moved into the metropolis for regular employment lived under the legal pressure of being branded vagabonds. This paper will illustrate that the main characters of the play were molded from stock images of vagabonds so as to allow audience to identity with and feel sympathy for them.

Abstract

In the fasting state, gluconeogenesis is upregulated by glucagon. Glucagon stimulates cyclic adenosine monophosphate production, which induces the expression of key enzymes for gluconeogenesis, such as cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK-C), which are involved in gluconeogenesis through the protein kinase A/cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) pathway. Using a luciferase reporter gene assay, a methanol extract of the bulbs of Lycoris sanguinea MAXIM. var. kiushiana Makino was found to suppress cAMP-enhanced PEPCK-C promoter activity. In addition, two alkaloids, lycoricidine and lycoricidinol, in the extract were identified as active constituents. In forskolin-stimulated human hepatoma cells, these alkaloids suppressed the expression of a reporter gene under the control of cAMP response element and also prevented increases in the endogenous levels of phosphorylated CREB and PEPCK mRNA expression. These results suggest that lycoricidine and lycoricidinol suppress PEPCK-C expression by inhibiting the phosphorylation of CREB and may thus have the potential to prevent excessive gluconeogenesis in type 2 diabetes. Abstract

Bovine trophoblastic cells are the first cells to differentiate during embryogenesis and play pivotal role in morphological and physiological development of the placenta. We have developed culture systems for bovine trophoblast stem cells isolated from in vitro fertilized blastocysts in the absence of feeder cells. These cells continuously proliferate in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's/F12 culture medium supplemented with bovine endometrial fibroblast-conditioned medium. The cells possess epithelial morphology, express cytokeratin, and form dome-like structures (vesicles). Methods for the maintenance, subculture, storage, and measurement of bovine trophoblast stem cell growth are described. The cells exhibit characteristics of bovine trophoblastic stem cells and possess the ability to differentiate into binucleate cells and express placental lactogen, prolactin-related protein-1, pregnancy-associated glycoprotein-1, and interferon τ.
