Allocation of water in the situation of climate change presents various uncertainties. Consequently, decisions must be made to ensure stability and functionality across different climatic scenarios. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of adaptation strategies in the agricultural sector, including a 5% increase in irrigation efficiency (S1) and a shift in irrigation method to Dry-DSR (direct seeded rice) under conditions of climatic uncertainty using a decision-making approach. The study focuses on the basin downstream of the Sefidroud dam, encompassing the Sefidroud irrigation and drainage network. Initially, basin modeling was conducted using the WEAP integrated management software for the period 2006-2020. Subsequently, the impact of climate change was assessed, considering RCP2.6, RCP4.5, and RCP8.5 emission scenarios on surface water resources from 2021 to 2050. Runoff and cultivated area, both subject to uncertainty, were identified as key parameters. To evaluate strategy performance under different uncertainties and determine the efficacy of each strategy, regret and satisfaction approaches were employed. Results indicate a projected decrease in future rainfall by 3.5-11.8% compared to the base period, accompanied by an increase in maximum and minimum temperatures (0.83-1.62 °C and 1.15-1.33 °C, respectively). Inflow to the Sefidroud dam is expected to decrease by 13-28%. Presently, the Sefidroud irrigation and drainage network faces an annual deficit of 505.4 MCM, and if current trends persist with the impact of climate change, this shortfall may increase to 932.7 MCM annually. Furthermore, satisfaction indices for strategy (S2) are 0.77 in an optimistic scenario and 0.70 in strategy (S1). In a pessimistic scenario, these indices are 0.67 and 0.56, respectively. Notably, changing the irrigation method with Dry-DSR is recommended as a robust strategy, demonstrating the ability to maintain basin stability under a broad range of uncertainties and climate change scenarios. It is crucial to note that the results solely highlight the effects of climate change on water sources entering the Sefidroud dam. Considering anthropogenic activities upstream of the Sefidroud basin, water resource shortages are expected to increase. The Custom Alveolar Ridge Splitting (CARS) technique was recently reported as a less-invasive treatment option for augmentation of the maxillary anterior area in cases where alveolar width deficiency exists due to bone resorption and remodeling. This technique creates an intraosseous defect to improve success when horizontal ridge augmentation is attempted. The purpose of the present case report was to demonstrate implant placement in an atrophic posterior mandibular site using the CARS technique. This technique was used in the mandibular right second premolar area, followed by placement of a single implant. The restored implant showed stable soft and hard tissue outcomes at 6 months postloading.

The extensive application of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 NPs) in agro-industrial practices leads to their high accumulation in the environment or agricultural soils. However, their threshold and ecotoxicological impacts on plants are still poorly understood. In this study, the hormetic effects of TiO 2 NPs at a concentration range of 0-2500 mg/L on the growth, and biochemical and physiological behaviors of Nigella arvensis in a hydroponic system were examined for three weeks. The translocation of TiO 2 NPs in plant tissues was characterized through scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). The bioaccumulation of total titanium (Ti) was quantified by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Briefly, the elongation of roots and shoots and the total biomass growth were significantly promoted at 100 mg/L TiO 2 NPs. As the results indicated, TiO 2 NPs had a hormesis effect on the proline content, i.e., a stimulating effect at the low concentrations of 50 and 100 mg/L and an inhibiting effect in the highest concentration of 2500 mg/L. A biphasic dose-response was observed against TiO 2 NPs in shoot soluble sugar and protein contents. The inhibitory effects were detected at ≥1000 mg/L TiO 2 NPs, where the synthesis of chlorophylls and carotenoid was reduced. At 1000 mg/ L, TiO 2 NPs significantly promoted the cellular H 2 O 2 generation, and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and catalase (CAT). Furthermore, it enhanced the total antioxidant content (TAC), total iridoid content (TIC), and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity. Tuberculosis (TB) is top infectious disease killer caused by a single organism responsible for 1.5 million deaths in 2018. Both COVID-19 and the pandemic response are risking to affect control measures for TB and continuity of essential services for people affected by this infection in western countries and even more in developing countries. Knowledge about concomitant pulmonary TB and COVID-19 is extremely limited. The double burden of these two diseases can have devastating effects. Here, we describe from both the clinical and the immunological point of view a case of a patient with in vitro immune cell anergy affected by bilateral cavitary pulmonary TB and subsequent COVID-19-associated pneumonia with a worst outcome. COVID-19 can be a precipitating factor in TB respiratory failure and, during ongoing SARS-COV-2 pandemic, clinicians must be aware of this possible co-infection in differential diagnosis of patients with active TB and new or worsening chest imaging., (© 2021. A new type of biodegradable film was formulated and characterized when based on the water-soluble-phase of Persian gum (SPG). The edible film was formulated optimally by using different concentrations of SPG (2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 and 4%) and glycerol as plasticizer (25, 35, and 35% based on dried SPG). Further examinations involved evaluating the manufactured films in terms of the barrier and physical properties, mechanical qualities, optical indices, microstructural properties and Fourier transform. The results showed that the increase in SPG and plasticizer content caused increases in thickness, moisture uptake, water vapor permeability and density of films ( p  < 0.05). Water solubility increased in response to higher concentrations of glycerol but decreased by higher amounts of dry matter ( p  < 0.05). The highest levels of the tensile strength (59.95%) and elongation at break (40.3 MPa) were obtained by SPG (3.5%) + 35% glycerol treatment. The L*, a* and opacity values decreased, while there was an increase in the b* value, as a result of increasing the plasticizer content ( p  < 0.05). A reduction occurred in the L* value of films, while the a* and b* values increased when using higher amounts of dry matter ( p  < 0.05). By analyzing the samples with field emission scanning electron microscopy, no cracks were observed on films when the contents of glycerol and dry matter were higher than 30% and 2.5%, respectively. A vinylpyrrolidone-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate-acrylic acid thin film was prepared on a polypropylene guard and its formulation was optimized for application in thin film microextraction followed by direct solid-state spectrofluorimetry method. The surface morphology, fluorescence property and extraction performance of the thin film were investigated systematically. The intra- and inter-batch reproducibilities of thin film fabrication were obtained 2.3 and 4.2%, respectively. The lifetime of each prepared thin film was 30 times with a relative standard deviation of less than 1.4%. The developed method was optimized for extraction of some sartans as angiotensin II receptors antagonist (including losartan, valsartan, and olmesartan) which have been used to control hypertension as the main causes of cardiovascular disease. The optimum extraction conditions achieved at 2- (for losartan) and 4- (for valsartan and olmesartan) sample pH, 500-rpm rotation rate and 30-min extraction time for all three analytes. At the optimum conditions, analyses of losartan, valsartan, and olmesartan were validated in the human plasma matrix. Broad linearity ranges with determination coefficients of more than 0.999 were achieved for each calibration curve. Limit of detection of the method was 0.5 ng mL -1 for all three analytes. The intra- and inter-day accuracies and precisions of the developed method were evaluated in spiked plasma samples at three concentration levels of each analyte with high recoveries of 95-101% and relative standard deviations less than 6%. Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most toxic metals in the environment, and has noxious effects on plant growth and production. Cd-accumulating plants showed reduced growth and productivity. Therefore, remediation of this non-essential and toxic pollutant is a prerequisite. Plant-based phytoremediation methodology is considered as one a secure, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective approach for toxic metal remediation. Phytoremediating plants transport and accumulate Cd inside their roots, shoots, leaves, and vacuoles. Phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated sites through hyperaccumulator plants proves a ground-breaking and profitable choice to combat the contaminants. Moreover, the efficiency of Cd phytoremediation and Cd bioavailability can be improved by using plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB). Emerging modern molecular technologies have augmented our insight into the metabolic processes involved in Cd tolerance in regular cultivated crops and hyperaccumulator plants. Plants' development via genetic engineering tools, like enhanced metal uptake, metal transport, Cd accumulation, and the overall Cd tolerance, unlocks new directions for phytoremediation. In this review, we outline the physiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms involved in Cd phytoremediation. Further, a focus on the potential of omics and genetic engineering strategies has been documented for the efficient remediation of a Cd-contaminated environment.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of a proposed bevacizumab biosimilar to those of the reference product in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC)., Methods: This Phase III, multicenter, randomized, double-blind (patient- and assessor-blind), active-controlled, 2-armed, parallel-group, noninferiority trial was conducted in patients with histologically verified colorectal cancer with evidence of at least 1 metastasis. Patients with mCRC were randomized 2:1 to receive 5 mg/kg IV of either study drug plus FOLFIRI-3 (with repeated irinotecan 100 mg/m 2 60-min infusion on day 3) or the reference drug plus FOLFIRI-3 every 2 weeks for 1 year. Progression-free survival (PFS) was the primary end point, and overall survival, objective response rate, and time to treatment failure as well as safety and immunogenicity were secondary end points. The population assessable for PFS was per protocol, and the intention-to-treat population was used for sensitivity analysis. Safety was assessed based on reports of adverse events, laboratory test results, and vital sign measurements., Findings: A total of 126 patients were enrolled; PFS values in the biosimilar and reference arms were 232 days (7.7 months) and 210 days (7 months), respectively (P = 0.47). The hazard ratio of the biosimilar arm versus the reference arm was 0.79 in the per-protocol population (90% CI, 0.46-1.35; P = 0.47). The upper limit for the 2-sided 90% CI was lower than the margin of 1.44, indicating that the biosimilar drug was noninferior to the reference drug. The hazard ratio for overall survival in the intent-to-treat population was 0.99 (95% CI, 0.55-1.80; P = 0.99). The difference between other efficacy end points among the groups was not statistically significant. No significant difference was observed in the comparison of the two arms for safety. The antidrug antibody was positive in 1 patient in each arm., Implications: The proposed biosimilar BE1040V was noninferior to the reference product in terms of efficacy in the treatment of mCRC, and tolerability was comparable between the 2 drugs. Misuse of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) increases prevalence of cardiovascular abnormalities in athletes, and the underlying molecular mechanism involved in those abnormalities continues to be investigated. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of chronic nandrolone exposure on alpha and beta-myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoforms gene expression transition, blood pressure related parameters, calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinaseIIδ (CaMKIIδ), and monoamine oxidase (MAO) activities in rats' hearts. It was also planned to evaluate the effect of strenuous exercise on cardiac abnormalities induced by nandrolone. Thirty-two male wistar rats were assigned into four groups, namely control, nandrolone, nandrolone with strenuous exercise, and strenuous exercise groups. Nandrolone consumption significantly increased systolic, diastolic, pulse and dicrotic pressure, mean arterial pressure, as well as the amplitude of first peak (H1). Moreover, exercise combined with nandrolone completely masked this effect. The mRNA expression of β-MHC and the ratio of β -MHC/α -MHC showed a significant increase in the nandrolone and nandrolone with strenuous exercise groups compared to those in the control group. The values of heart tissue calcium/calmoldulin-dependent protein kinase IIδ (CaMKIIδ), and monoamine oxidase (MAO) in the nandrolone, nandrolone with strenuous exercise and exercise groups were significantly higher than those values in the control group. These findings indicate that nandrolone-induced heart and hemodynamic abnormalities may in part be associated with MHC isoform changes and Ca 2+ homeostasis changes mediated by increased CaMKIIδ and MAO activities and that these effects can be provoked via strenuous exercise., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the frequency of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), hyperlipidemia, obesity and polycystic ovaries syndrome (PCOS)., Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 333 patients who had one of the certain diagnosis of DM, hyperlipidemia, obesity or PCOS were enrolled. Information about demographics, anthropometric, nutritional habitude, smoking history, medical history and physical activity were recorded. Liver ultrasound examination and routine biochemistry analysis were performed., Results: Among 333 patients with one of the four above-mentioned diseases. 199 patients (59.8%) had NAFLD. Male were more likely to have NAFLD than female (72.8% vs. 50.8% respectively, P < 0.001). About, 80.7% of patients through 41-50 years age had NAFLD. The frequency of abnormal fasting blood glucose, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), triglyceride, and total cholesterol were significantly higher in patients with NAFLD (P < 0.05). Subjects with NAFLD had a higher body mass index than non-NAFLD (33.6 ± 7.9 kg/m 2 vs. 31.1 ± 5.0 kg/m2 respectively, P = 0.002). Patients with DM, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and hypothyroidism were more likely to have NAFLD (P < 0.05). Patients with consumption of supper, high-fat diet, enjoy of eating and smoking were more likely to have NAFLD and patients with fruit and vegetable uptake and physical activity were less likely to have NAFLD (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: As most patients with NAFLD are asymptomatic, employed individuals with higher education levels, with a history of smoking and unhealthy diet along with DM, hyperlipidemia, PCOS and obesity seriously have to be followed and educated for lifestyle modification., (Copyright © 2019 Diabetes India. In this research, a novel Sn(II)-imprinted poly(dimethyl vinylphosphonate) nanopowder (Sn(II)-IPDMVPN) was prepared using Sn 2+ , dimethyl vinylphosphonate, azobis isobutyronitril and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the template, ligand, initiator and cross linker, respectively. The non-imprinted poly(dimethyl vinylphosphonate) nanopowder (NIPDMVPN) was also synthesized utilizing the same procedure without using SnCl 2 ·2H 2 O in order to compare the results with the Sn(II)-IPDMVPN. The structure, morphology and composition of the products were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, XRF, BET, FT-IR and NMR techniques. Some experimental conditions including pH, eluent concentration and sample volume were optimized to maximize Sn(II) adsorption by the Sn(II)-IPDMVPN. It was found that the optimum conditions are pH = 5, 1.00 M of HNO 3 as eluent and sample volume up to 50 mL. The results obtained by ICP-MS indicated that the Sn(II)-IPDMVPN had much higher adsorption capacity for Sn(II) ions (about threefold) than the NIPDMVPN. The applicability of the Sn(II)-IPDMVPN was also investigated in three different real samples. Under the best experimental conditions, the calibration graphs were linear in the range of 0.19-90 μg L -1 with a coefficient of determination (R 2 ) of 0.990. The detection limit was calculated to be 0.06 μg L -1 . The relative standard deviation (RSD) for six replicate measurements of Sn(II) at 1.00 ng mL -1 was determined to be 1.8%. The inherent volatility and unpredictable nature of renewable generations and load demand pose considerable challenges for energy exchange optimization of microgrids (MG). To address these challenges, this paper proposes a new risk-based multi-objective energy exchange optimization for networked MGs from economic and reliability standpoints under load consumption and renewable power generation uncertainties. In so doing, three various risk-based strategies are distinguished by using conditional value at risk (CVaR) approach. The proposed model is specified as a two-distinct objective function. The first function minimizes the operation and maintenance costs, cost of power transaction between upstream network and MGs as well as power loss cost, whereas the second function minimizes the energy not supplied (ENS) value. Furthermore, the stochastic scenario-based approach is incorporated into the approach in order to handle the uncertainty. Also, Kantorovich distance scenario reduction method has been implemented to reduce the computational burden. Finally, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGAII) is applied to minimize the objective functions simultaneously and the best solution is extracted by fuzzy satisfying method with respect to risk-based strategies. To indicate the performance of the proposed model, it is performed on the modified IEEE 33-bus distribution system and the obtained results show that the presented approach can be considered as an efficient tool for optimal energy exchange optimization of MGs., (Copyright © 2017 ISA. Background: Gut microbiota has metabolic activity which influences mucosal homeostasis, local and systemic immune responses, and other anatomical systems (i.e., brain). The effects of dysbiosis are still poorly studied in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1 (HIV-1) positive subjects and insufficient data are available on the impairment of the gut-brain axis, despite neurocognitive disorders being commonly diagnosed in these patients. This study evaluated the impact of a probiotic supplementation strategy on intrathecal immune activation and cognitive performance in combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) treated HIV-1 infected subjects., Methods: Thirty-five HIV-1 infected individuals were included in this study. At baseline (T0) a battery of tests was administered, to evaluate neurocognitive function and a lumbar puncture was performed to determine neopterin concentration in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), as a marker of Central Nervous System (CNS) immune activation. Subsequently, a subgroup of participants underwent a 6-month course of multi-strain probiotics supplementation; this intervention group was evaluated, after probiotic treatment, with a second lumbar puncture and with repeated neurocognitive tests., Results: At T0, all participants showed impaired results in at least one neurocognitive test and elevated neopterin concentrations in CSF. After supplementation with probiotics (T6), the interventional group presented a significant decrease in neopterin concentration and a significant improvement in several neurocognitive tests. In contrast, no significant modifications were observed in the neurocognitive performance of controls between T0 and T6. The CNS Penetration Effectiveness Score of antiretroviral therapy did not show an influence from any of the investigated variables., Conclusions: Multi-strain probiotic supplementation seems to exert a positive effect on neuroinflammation and neurocognitive impairment in HIV-1 infected subjects, but large trials are needed to support the concept that modulation of the gut microbiota can provide specific neurological benefits in these patients.

Introduction: HIV infection is characterized by a persistent immune activation associated to a compromised gut barrier immunity and alterations in the profile of the fecal flora linked with the progression of inflammatory symptoms. The effects of high concentration multistrain probiotic (Vivomixx®, Viale del Policlinico 155, Rome, Italy in EU; Visbiome®, Dupont, Madison, Wisconsin in USA) on several aspects of intestinal immunity in ART-experienced HIV-1 patients was evaluated., Methods: A sub-study of a longitudinal pilot study was performed in HIV-1 patients who received the probiotic supplement twice a day for 6 months (T6). T-cell activation and CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell subsets expressing IFNγ (Th1, Tc1) or IL-17A (Th17, Tc17) were stained by cytoflorimetric analysis. Histological and immunohistochemical analyses were performed on intestinal biopsies while enterocytes apoptosis index was determined by TUNEL assay., Results: A reduction in the frequencies of CD4 + and CD8 + T-cell subsets, expressing CD38 + , HLA-DR + , or both, and an increase in the percentage of Th17 cell subsets, especially those with central or effector memory phenotype, was recorded in the peripheral blood and in gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) after probiotic intervention. Conversely, Tc1 and Tc17 levels remained substantially unchanged at T6, while Th1 cell subsets increase in the GALT. Probiotic supplementation was also associated to a recovery of the integrity of the gut epithelial barrier, a reduction of both intraepithelial lymphocytes density and enterocyte apoptosis and, an improvement of mitochondrial morphology sustained in part by a modulation of heat shock protein 60., Conclusions: These findings highlight the potential beneficial effects of probiotic supplementation for the reconstitution of physical and immunological integrity of the mucosal intestinal barrier in ART-treated HIV-1-positive patients., (© 2017 The Authors. Background: To date, no data are available regarding the effects of probiotics on the pathway of tryptophan/serotonin metabolism among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 1-infected individuals. Because a condition of dysbiosis might be responsible for the altered use of tryptophan described in this population, the aim of this study was to investigate the link between probiotic supplementation and serotonin levels in combined antiretroviral therapy-treated patients and the subsistence of an interplay with inflammation., Methods: We conducted a pilot study that included 8 HIV-positive subjects. We collected blood and fecal samples before and after 6 months of probiotic supplementation, to measure the level of serotonin in serum and tryptophan in stool, the expression of CD38 and HLA-DR on peripheral CD4+ T lymphocytes (as immune activation markers), the expression of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 messenger RNA (mRNA) and IFN-γ mRNA (as markers of tryptophan metabolism and systemic inflammation)., Results: After probiotic supplementation, we observed a significant increase in concentration of serum serotonin ( P = .008) and a decreased level of tryptophan in plasma. Moreover, a significant reduction in CD38 and HLA-DR expression on the surface of peripheral CD4+ T cells ( P = .008) and a reduced expression of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 mRNA on peripheral blood mononuclear cells ( P = .04) were observed., Conclusions: Considering that this probiotic (Vivomixx® in EU; Visbiome® in USA) has an influence on tryptophan metabolism, larger studies on this topic are needed., Competing Interests: DECLARATION OF CONFLICTING INTERESTS: The author(s) declared no potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.

The generalized Heffron-Phillips model (GHPM) for a microgrid containing a photovoltaic (PV)-diesel machine (DM)-induction motor (IM)-governor (GV) (PDIG) has been developed at the low voltage level. A GHPM is calculated by linearization method about a loading condition. An effective Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) approach for PV network has been done using sliding mode control (SMC) to maximize output power. Additionally, to improve stability of microgrid for more penetration of renewable energy resources with nonlinear load, a complementary stabilizer has been presented. Imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) is utilized to design of gains for the complementary stabilizer with the multiobjective function. The stability analysis of the PDIG system has been completed with eigenvalues analysis and nonlinear simulations. An extraction method based on aptamer sorbent followed by electrospray ionization-ion mobility spectrometry (ESI-IMS) has been developed for the analysis of tetracycline in human urine and plasma samples. The effect of extraction parameters on the extraction efficiency including washing (solvent type and volume) and elution (solvent type, volume and flow rate) were investigated. Under the optimized conditions, the linear dynamic ranges for tetracycline in urine and plasma samples were found to be 0.05-5.00 μg/mL and 0.10-5.00 μg/mL with detection limits of 0.019 and 0.037 μg/mL, respectively. The extraction efficiency was 86.5% for urine and it was 82.8% for plasma samples. The relative standard deviation was 5.9% and 6.3% for six replicate measurements of tetracycline at 1 and 2 μg/mL in urine and plasma samples, respectively., (Copyright © 2013 Elsevier B.V. In addition to demographic data, the Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life-54 (MSQoL-54) instrument was used to determine how multiple sclerosis influences the quality of life of the studied women. Within the frame of this randomized controlled trial, the participants were divided into two equally sized groups (the case and the control group) in which the level of pain and the quality of life were evaluated. The case group exercised pain-managing Yoga methods for three months, keeping the pace of eight 90-minute sessions per month. The control participants were subjected to no intervention. One month after the Yoga therapy, the level of pain and the quality of life were evaluated in both groups and compared to the baseline data. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and paired t-tests. After the Yoga therapy, the case group showed a significant improvement in physical pain management (P=0.007) and the quality of life (P=0.001) as compared to the control group. The results showed that Yoga techniques can alleviate physical pain and improve the quality of life of multiple sclerosis patients.
