Abstract

WCRR2019, 12th World Congress on Railway Research, Tokyo, JAPON, 28-/10/2019 - 01/11/2019; Scour phenomenon concerns all structures located in a hydraulic environment. Transport network (railway or roadway) bridges structures are highly concerned and several collapses have occurred in Japan, France and other countries. Developing methods that can evaluate bridges at high risk of scouring is important from the viewpoint of infrastructure management. Japan (RTRI) and France have recently worked separately on the problem of scour phenomenon (mainly through the current ANR research project ?SSHEAR? [9][11]) and both have developed scoring tables in the past 5 years to evaluate the risk of scour at bridge structures. Discussions and common works have been ongoing for 2 years between these two countries and both methodologies have been applied on a set of Japanese and French bridges. In this research paper, we explain the two methodologies and we point out major differences of each approach by comparing the scores resulting from both methods on a set of bridges. In this case study, we adopted 10 bridges including both cases with and without the damage history from scouring. Finally, we compare the relationship between the evaluation results and the damage history and it was found that both methods can evaluate the scour risk properly.

17. Improvement in Electrical Characteristics of NbN tunnel Junctions With Plasma-Nitrided AlNx Barriers

Abstract

本誌では、プラズマ窒化AlNx障壁層を特つNbNトンネル接合における接合作製プロセス及び電気的特性改善について述べる。このNbNトンネル接合を高周波電磁波検出器に応用するためには、臨界電流密度J_c及びギャップ電圧V_gの向上が必要である。そこで本研究では、接合特性改善のため、NbNトンネル接合の上部電極堆積条件及び障壁層形成条件の検討を行った。その結果、接合上部NbN層の堆積条件の調整及び基板温度を上昇させることにより、V_gが0.6mV向上し5.0mVの接合が得られた。また、Alのプラズマ窒化時のRF電力密度を変化させることより、J_cが最大で10.2kA/cm^2の接合が得られた。, We present the fabrication process of NbN tunnel junctions with plasma-nitrided AlNx barriers and the electrical characteristics of the junctions. The application of the junctions to high frequency electromagnetic wave detectors requires increase in the critical current density J_c and the gap voltage V_g of the junctions. In this work, we examined the conditions of depositing a counter NbN layer and forming an AlNx barrier for the purpose of improving the characteristics of the junctions. As a result, the V_g was increased by 0.4 mV to 5.0 mV by adjusting the deposition conditions and by raising the substrate temperature during deposition of the counter NbN layer. Abstract

In July 1853 Commodore William Perry sailed into Tokyo Bay (then called Edo Bay) determined to end Japan's 220 years of isolation. Recognizing the power of Perry's 'gunboat diplomacy' the Tokugawa Shogunate finally relented and in 1854 opened the ports of Shimoda, south of Tokyo, and Hakodate, in the northernmost island of Hokkaido, to American ships. Disaffected lords in Japan rallied around the Emperor in opposition to the Shogunate's capitulation. This led to civil war, called The Boshin War, between 1868 and 1869. The Emperor's modernized military forces prevailed. Forces loyal to the Tokugawa Shogunate retreated to Hakodate in Hokkaido but were finally defeated in June 1869. Britain's role in subjugating China in late 19th century also had a profound impact on the region. The Japanese rulers, under Emperor Meiji, came to realize that modernization at that time was leaving Japan vulnerable. Subsequently, Japan began to modernize through rapid industrialization informed by western engineers, particularly from Britain, France and USA. What was Japan like in the late 19th century? How did the Japanese citizens react to seeing Perry's gunboats in Edo Bay? What was the relevance of the wars in China? What impact did Britain have on the region at that time? These are questions Japanese children at Elementary school must answer. Therefore, students at Future University Hakodate designed, programmed and delivered a Unity3D educational game aimed at contextualizing the aforementioned events. Following the guidance of Nozomi-chan, a female Japanese avatar, users are tasked with locating information about Edo life, Britain's industrial heritage, China's battle with Britain, and Perry's visit to Hakodate. Users are then tasked to piece together the events as a form of assessment of understanding. The paper details the development of the 3D virtual game, its utilization by Elementary school students, and the observations of the student developers for informed design of future serious educational games. 27. Suppression of Magnetic Flux Trapping by Moats formed in NbN Ground Planes.

Abstract

We have investigated the effect of moats in NbN ground planes on magnetic flux trapping by using series arrays of 1000 Josephson junctions fabricated on Nb and NbN ground planes. The junctions on the NbN ground plane exhibited no trapping for external magnetic fields in the range of -2.2 to 1.2 µT, which was twice the range over which no flux trapping occurred for junctions on the Nb ground plane. This advantage of the NbN ground plane can be explained using a Bean–Livingston model with a longer penetration depth and higher critical temperature of NbN than those of Nb. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
