There is no data for Brugada electrocardiographic pattern (BrEP) from India. In a cross-sectional study of men and women between the ages 20–79 years, electrocardiograms were analyzed following the 2002 consensus. The overall prevalence of BrEP was 1.06 % (95 % CI 0.76, 1.35). There were two cases type I (0.04 %; 95 % CI 0.01, 0.06) and forty-seven type II/III (1.01 %; 95 % CI 1.02, 1.35); the pattern was markedly higher in men. In this study, BrEP was slightly less prevalent compared to South Asia but more than in the west.

Parthanatos is distinct from caspase-dependent apoptosis in that it does not necessitate the activation of caspase cascades; Instead, it relies on the translocation of Apoptosis-inducing Factor (AIF) from the mitochondria to the nucleus, resulting in nuclear DNA fragmentation. Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) is an oncolytic virus that selectively targets and kills tumor cells by inducing cell apoptosis. It has been reported that NDV triggers classic apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway. In this study, we observed that NDV infection induced endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), which caused a rapid release of endogenous calcium ions (Ca2+). This cascade of events resulted in mitochondrial depolarization, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, and structural remodeling of the mitochondria. The overload of Ca2+ also initiated an increase in mitochondrial membrane permeability, facilitating the transfer of AIF to the nucleus to induce apoptosis. Damaged mitochondria produced excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), which further exacerbated mitochondrial damage and increased mitochondrial membrane permeability, thus promoting additional intracellular Ca2+ accumulation and ultimately triggering an ROS burst. Collectively, these findings indicate that NDV infection promotes excessive calcium accumulation and ROS generation, leading to mitochondrial damage that releases more calcium and ROS, creating a feedback loop that exacerbates AIF-dependent parthanatos. This study not only provides a novel perspective on the oncolytic mechanism of NDV but also highlights new targets for antiviral research. Author summary: Apoptosis serves as a cellular self-defense mechanism against viral infections, while also being a consequence of viral proliferation within infected cells. Mitochondria play a critical role in amplifying the stress associated with viral infections, as they sustain damage in response to intracellular apoptosis-inducing signals. Our observations indicate that NDV infection leads to Ca2+ accumulation and excessive ROS production, which in turn results in mitochondrial depolarization, loss of membrane potential, increased permeability, and the subsequent release and transport of AIF to the nucleus, ultimately triggering tumor cell death. These findings provide compelling evidence for an NDV-induced parthanatos mechanism and underscore the significant roles of calcium and ROS in mitochondrial apoptotic pathways. Our aim was to evaluate the role of traditional versus newer markers of obesity, in risk assessment of CAD. 50 consecutive ACS patients and 20 controls were enrolled.Visceral and Subcutaneous fat (VFAT and SFAT) analysis was done using multi-slice abdominal MRI. Syntax score was calculated from coronary angiogram. In our study, BMI and Waist/Hip ratios showed poor correlation with Syntax score. VFAT and SFAT showed strong correlation with Syntax score (p-0.01,0.03) and a more significant correlation was noted with their areas at L3-L4 levels (p-0.01,0.05). Statistically significant ROC- area under curve was observed with Indexed SFAT.

Avian leukosis viruses (ALVs) include a group of avian retroviruses primarily associated with neoplastic diseases in poultry, commonly referred to as avian leukosis. Belonging to different subgroups based on their envelope properties, ALV subgroups A, B, and J (ALV-A, ALV-B, and ALV-J) are the most widespread in poultry populations. Early identification and removal of virus-shedding birds from infected flocks are essential for the ALVs' eradication. Therefore, the development of rapid, accurate, simple-to-use, and cost effective on-site diagnostic methods for the detection of ALV subgroups is very important. Cas13a, an RNA-guided RNA endonuclease that cleaves target single-stranded RNA, also exhibits non-specific endonuclease activity on any bystander RNA in close proximity. The distinct trans-cleavage activity of Cas13 has been exploited in the molecular diagnosis of multiple pathogens including several viruses. Here, we describe the development and application of a highly sensitive Cas13a-based molecular test for the specific detection of proviral DNA of ALV-A, B, and J subgroups. Prokaryotically expressed LwaCas13a, purified through ion exchange and size-exclusion chromatography, was combined with recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) and T7 transcription to establish the SHERLOCK (specific high-sensitivity enzymatic reporter unlocking) molecular detection system for the detection of proviral DNA of ALV-A/B/J subgroups. This novel method that needs less sample input with a short turnaround time is based on isothermal detection at 37 °C with a color-based lateral flow readout. The detection limit of the assay for ALV-A/B/J subgroups was 50 copies with no cross reactivity with ALV-C/D/E subgroups and other avian oncogenic viruses such as reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) and Marek's disease virus (MDV). The development and evaluation of a highly sensitive and specific visual method of detection of ALV-A/B/J nucleic acids using CRISPR-Cas13a described here will help in ALV detection in eradication programs.
