A 10 year old dog was presented for necropsy with the history of sudden death. Post mortem examination revealed congestion with areas of red hepatisation in lungs. The left inguinal mammary gland was diffusely enlarged and the cut section revealed hemorrhagic areas with cystic spaccs. Large numbers of pleomorphic cells were observed in impression smear of the mass and condensed chromatins with prominent nuclci were also seen. Histopathological examination revealed anaplastic carcinoma with micrometastasis in lungs. Liver was yellow in colour and hard in consistency. The kidneys were atrophic with irregular surface. The article discusses findings of a study to investigate myositis caused by the administration of Artizone-S in a pig. It notes that the carcass of the pig revealed tissue irritation, abscesses, and extensive necrosis in the right thigh region that occurred with improper deep intramuscular (IM) injection of Artizone-S. The study advises that the proper site for IM injections in pigs should be in the neck muscle located in an area just below and behind the ear.

The article presents a case study of an Indian domestic fowl that was presented with soft fluctuating masses on the face, neck, breast, shoulder, and thigh in India in 2014. The successful excision of the masses, which were histologically diagnosed as hemangiopericytoma, had not been followed by any sign of recurrence. The case was considered rare in an Indian domestic fowl.

Anthrax, one of the most dreaded zoonotic diseases is characterized by sudden death in cattle. It is normally considered that oozing of unclotted tarry blood from the external natural orifices is suggestive of Anthrax. Here we report two cases of anthrax in cattle wherein bleeding in any form was not detected. One was from a cross-bred cow and another from a bullock, which were brought for necropsy examination with a history of sudden death from the nearby slaughter house. The carcasses were bloated and rigor mortis was partial. The peripheral blood smear examination from both the cases revealed the presence of truncated, capsulated, short rods of Bacillus anthracis. This clearly warrants the need for examination of peripheral blood smear examination before attempting autopsy, as anthrax in an occult form may be present in the cases, which may definitely pose a zoonotic risk. The article presents a case study of a 17-year old male tiger in a zoo in Thiruvananthapuram , India, which died due to infection of the Galoncus perniciosus, a nematode parasite. It says that the animal had a history of colic followed by anorexia, absence of defaecation and toxaemia. It says that the parasite is rarely seen in tigers and leopards, and there is a need to screen the tiger and leopard populations, and to study the pathogenesis and life cycle of the parasite.

The article presents a case study of chronic hepatitis in a captive poisonous Russell's viper in India. A detailed necropsy of the dead snake revealed chronic hepatitis coupled with intestinal helminthosis affecting the kidneys. Histopathological examination of Haematoxylin and Eosin stained liver sections revealed massive infiltration of lobules by chronic inflammatory cells which caused the viper's death.

Systematic post mortem examination was carried out on seven Emu chicks submitted for disease diagnosis to Clinical Laboratory, District Veterinary Centre, Palakkad. On examination, numerous small greyish white nodules were seen in the lungs, air sacs, kidney and serosal surface of proventriculus. Dark red liver with necrotic areas and dark coloured spleen were the other lesions. Microscopically the lungs revealed granulomas with central areas of caseation surrounded by mononuclear cells and fibroblasts. PAS positive fungal hyphae could be seen in the lesion. Aspergillus fumigatus could be isolated in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar from the lesions. This is the first report on the occurrence of systemic aspergillosis in Emus from Kerala. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
