This study's objective was to investigate lean manufacturing knowledge, awareness, and integration maturity in one of Türkiye's most significant furniture manufacturer clusters and discover the extent of tapped and untapped potential offered by lean manufacturing for the furniture industry. This study developed a survey-based data collection methodology consisting of five sections with different features. Seventy-five small to large enterprises were invited to participate in the study. Out of seventy-five, twenty-seven furniture manufacturers participated in the study. The study revealed that lean manufacturing awareness and integration maturity vary significantly. This variation could prove lean manufacturing is still far from becoming a mainstream modern management technique for members of the furniture manufacturing cluster in Bursa, Türkiye. According to 92.59% of the study participants, reducing manufacturing costs is the most common internal motivation that either triggered or has the potential to trigger lean manufacturing integration. Moreover, the amount of investment required (66.67%) to deploy lean manufacturing is the primary barrier encountered by the organizations, followed by a lack of training opportunities for workers with a percentage of 62.96%. This study was expected to serve as a valuable resource for academics and professionals intrigued by the extent of the relationship between lean manufacturing and Turkish furniture industry members.

Türkiye’de Akdeniz florasında yaygın olarak bulunan, tıbbi ve aromatik bir bitki olan Myrtus communis L. (Mersin) günümüzde çeşitli fitoterapötik uygulamalarda sıklıkla karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Myrtus communis L. bitkisinin meyvelerinden ekstraksiyon yöntemiyle elde edilen sabit yağların verimleri hesaplanmış ve kimyasal kompozisyonu gaz kromotografisi-kütle spektroskopisi (GC-MS) ile tespit edilmiştir. En yüksek sabit yağ verimi %5.43 olarak Bursa iline ait örneklerden elde edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarında yağ kompozisyonu içerisinde 11 farklı bileşen tespit edilmiştir. Tüm bölgelerde en fazla bulunan yağ asitleri sırasıyla %73.97-68.96 linoleik asit (C18:2), %16.60-12.04 oleik asit (C18:1) ve %8.86-8.51 palmitik asittir (C16:0). Bu çalışmanın sonuçları Myrtus communis L. meyvesinin zengin fitokimyasal içeriği ve yüksek besleyici özelliği sayesinde gıda, tıp ve birçok farklı alanda kullanılabilirliğini ortaya koymuştur.

In this study, the effect of alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) on the mechanical and physical properties of natural fiber (NF) and glass fiber (GF) reinforced poly(lactic acid) (PLA) composites were investigated in detail. The hybrid PLA composites were manufactured by extrusion method followed by hot press molding. AKD was used to improve the hydrophobicity of hybrid PLA composites and compatibility of NF and PLA in the polymer matrix. The tensile and flexural tests, thickness swelling, water absorption, and contact angle measurements were accomplished for determining the performance of the hybrid PLA composites. The surface morphology of the hybrid PLA composites was also performed by scanning electron microscopy. The incorporation of AKD and NF into PLA matrix improved the mechanical strengths by 40% and above compared to those of samples without AKD. But, tensile and flexural moduli decreased as 7% and 14% of the samples with NF and AKD, respectively. Contact angle was higher for the hybrid PLA composites with AKD compared with the composites without AKD. However, the results revealed that in the presence of GF, AKD had no significant effect on overall properties of the hybrid PLA composites. In the light of the findings, AKD may have a potential usage as coupling agent in the NF filled PLA composites.

İğne yapraklı ağaçlardan farklı tekniklerle üretilen doğal çam reçinesi, oldukça kıymetli ve kadim bir silvikimyasal üründür. Başta kimya sanayi olmak üzere, kağıt, yol boyası, plastik sanayi, tıp ve kozmetikte sayısız kullanımı mevcuttur. Doğal çam reçinesinin üç kaynağı bulunmaktadır. Bunlar; 1) çam ağacı reçinesi 2) sülfat reçinesi 3) ekstrakt reçinesidir. Son yıllarda bütün dünyada sentetik reçine tüketimine getirilen yasal kısıtlamalar sektörü zorunlu olarak biyobozunur ürünlere yönlendirmektedir. Türkiye’de reçine üretimine uygun kızılçam ormanları olmasına rağmen, bugün ticari anlamda doğal ham reçine üretimi ve bu konu üzerine bilimsel çalışmalar istenilen düzeyde değildir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı çözücü türlerinin çam kökü ekstraksiyon reçinesinin verimi ve kimyasal özellikleri üzerine etkisini incelemektir. Analizler sonucunda ekstraksiyon verimleri %16 ile %22 arasında bulunmuş olup en yüksek verim alkol-benzen çözücü sisteminde elde edilmiştir. Verime paralel şekilde, en yüksek asit ve sabunlaşma sayıları da alkol-benzen kullanılan örneklerde sırasıyla 174,87 ve 180,33 mgKOH/g bulunmuştur. Milli kaynaklarımızın ve ekstraksiyon reçinesi üretimindeki mevcut potansiyelimizin değerlendirilmesi için doğal reçinenin verimini ve kalitesini etkileyen fiziksel ve kimyasal faktörler üzerine daha detaylı ve etkin çalışmalar yürütülmesi gerekmektedir., Natural pine resin, produced from coniferous species with different techniques is a very valuable and ancient biochemical product. It has wide uses in the chemical industry, paper, road paint, plastic, medicine and cosmetic industries. In recent years, legal restrictions all over the world on consumption of synthetic resin lead the industry to biodegradable products. Although there are suitable forests for natural resin production in Turkey, commercial manufacturing and scientific studies on this subject are not at the desired level today. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of different solvent types on the yield and chemical properties of crude wood resin. As a result of the analysis, extraction yields were found between 16% and 22%, and the highest yield was obtained in the ethanol-benzene solvent system. Collaterally to the yield, the highest acid and saponification numbers were found in alcohol-benzene extracts as 174,87 and 180,33 mg KOH /g, respectively. In order to evaluate our national resources and our current potential in crude wood rosin production, more detailed and effective studies should be carried out on the physical and chemical factors that affect the yield and quality of crude wood rosin .

Uçucu yağlar günümüzde kozmetik, ilaç ve gıda sanayi başta olmak üzere geniş bir kullanım alanına sahiptir. Bu çalışmanın amacı mikrodalga ve hidrodestilasyon yöntemi ile kara ardıç (Juniperus sabina L.) kozalaklarından uçucu yağ elde edilerek uçucu yağ verimlerini karşılaştırmak ve GC-MS analizleri yapılarak yapısındaki bileşikler incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmada hammadde olarak kara ardıç kozalakları, uçucu yağ elde edilmesi işleminde ise mikrodalga ve hidrodestilasyon yöntemleri ile kurulan ekstraksiyon düzeneği kullanılmıştır. Mikrodalga yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilen uçucu yağ tayini deneylerinde maksimum verim %1.37 olarak, hidrodestilasyon yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilen uçucu yağ tayini deneylerinde maksimum verim % 1.61 olarak belirlenmiştir. Mikrodalga yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilen uçucu yağ tayini deneylerinden elde edilen uçucu yağın GC-MS analizi incelendiğinde 37 adet bileşiğe rastlandığı belirlenmiştir. Hidrodestilasyon yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilen uçucu yağ tayini deneyleri sonucunda elde edilen uçucu yağın GC-MS analizi incelendiğinde yapısında 34 adet bileşik olduğu saptanmıştır. Mikrodalga ve hidrodestilasyon yöntemi ile yapılan uçucu yağ tayini deneylerinden elde edilen uçucu yağların GC-MS analizleri incelendiğinde etken madde olarak ?– pinen belirlenmiştir. Essential oils today have a wide range of uses, especially in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food industries. The aim of this study is to compare essential oil yields obtained from microwave and hydrodestillation methods from juniper cones (Juniperus sabina L.) with GC-MS analysis and to investigate its structure. In this study, juniper cones were used as raw material, and extraction technique established with microwave and hydrodestillation methods was used in the process of obtaining essential oil. The maximum yield of the essential oil determination conducted with the microwave method was determined to be 1.37% and the maximum yield of the essential oil determination conducted with the hydrodestillation method was determined to be 1.61%. When GCMS analysis of the essential oil obtained from the experiments of essential oil determination conducted by the microwave method was examined, it was determined that 37 compounds were found. As a result of the essential oil determination experiments carried out with hydrodestillation method, GC-MS analysis of essential oil obtained were investigated and it was found that there were 34 compounds in the structure. When GC-MS analysis of essential oils obtained from essential oil determination experiments with microwave and hydrodestillation method were investigated, ?-pinene was determined as active substance.
