Magnesium alloys, particularly AZ31, are promising materials for the modern automotive industry, offering significant weight savings and environmental benefits. This research focuses on the challenges associated with accurate modelling of multiaxial cyclic plasticity at small strains of AZ31 under low-cycle fatigue conditions. Current modelling approaches, including crystal plasticity and phenomenological plasticity, have been extensively explored. However, the existing models reach their limits when it comes to capturing the complexity of cyclic plasticity in magnesium alloys, especially under multiaxial loading conditions. To address this gap, a cyclically stable elastoplastic model is proposed that integrates elements from existing models with an enhanced algorithm for updating stresses and hardening parameters, using the hyperbolic tangent function to describe hardening and ensure a stabilised response with closed hysteresis loops for both uniaxial and multiaxial loading. The model is based on a von Mises yield surface and includes a kinematic hardening rule that promises a stable simulation of the response of AZ31 sheets under cyclic loading. Using experimental data from previous studies on AZ31 sheets, the proposed model is optimised and validated. The model shows promising capabilities in simulating the response of AZ31 sheet metal under different loading conditions. Cowper–Symonds parameters were estimated for the complex-phase high-strength steel with a commercial name of SZBS800. The parameter estimation was based on a series of conventional tensile tests and unconventional high-strain rate experiments. The parameters were estimated using a reverse engineering approach. LS-Dyna was used for numerical simulations, and the material's response was modelled using a piece-wise linear plasticity model with a visco-plastic formulation of the Cowper–Symonds material model. A multi-criteria cost function was defined and applied to obtain a response function for the parameters p and C. The cost function was modelled with a response surface, and the optimal parameters were estimated using a real-valued genetic algorithm. The main novelty and innovation of this article is the definition of a cost function that measures a deviation between the deformed geometry of the flat plate-like specimens and the results of the numerical simulations. The amplitude of a bolt load in dynamically loaded bolted flange joints depends on several factors: the resilience of the bolt and the clamping parts, the magnitude of the working load, the point of action of the working load, the way the working load is transferred from the structure to the bolt, the preload, and the geometrical imperfections of the contact surfaces of the joint. These factors are analysed in many papers, and they are covered in the VDI 2230 guideline and in standards. Fatigue curves (S-N curves) of bolts are determined by tests in which an ideal axial load is usually applied to the bolts. The effects of the bolt strength class, the thread manufacturing process, the surface protection, and the cross-section size on the fatigue strength of bolts are precisely defined. The main problem in the evaluation of bolted joints is the calculation of the actual stress, which is compared with the fatigue curves. Despite extensive research, fatigue-related bolt failures still occur in practise. This article provides a systematic overview of the influences that affect the fatigue of bolts. The conclusions are based on the research results of many authors and on our own analytical, numerical, and experimental investigations. The effects are illustrated using two practical examples of flange bolting. The assessment of fatigue according to Eurocode 3 and the VDI 2230 guideline is discussed in more detail. Due to their advantages—longer internal force delay compared to bulk materials, resistance to harsh conditions, damping of a wide frequency spectrum, insensitivity to ambient temperature, high reliability and low cost—granular materials are seen as an opportunity for the development of high-performance, lightweight vibration-damping elements (particle dampers). The performance of particle dampers is affected by numerous parameters, such as the base material, the size of the granules, the flowability, the initial prestress, etc. In this work, a series of experiments were performed on specimens with different combinations of influencing parameters. Energy-based design parameters were used to describe the overall vibration-damping performance. The results provided information for a deeper understanding of the dissipation mechanisms and their mutual correlation, as well as the influence of different parameters (base material, granule size and flowability) on the overall damping performance. A comparison of the performance of particle dampers with carbon steel and polyoxymethylene granules and conventional rubber dampers is given. The results show that the damping performance of particle dampers can be up to 4 times higher compared to conventional bulk material-based rubber dampers, even though rubber as a material has better vibration-damping properties than the two granular materials in particle dampers. However, when additional design features such as mass and stiffness are introduced, the results show that the overall performance of particle dampers with polyoxymethylene granules can be up to 3 times higher compared to particle dampers with carbon steel granules and conventional bulk material-based rubber dampers. Step‐stress accelerated life testing is often used to estimate the fatigue life or reliability of structural components. Various methods exist for designing the optimal accelerated life test and estimating the parameters of the fatigue‐life or reliability models. Although they are based on rigorous mathematical formulations, they sometimes result in inappropriate estimates of the model parameters if the experimental data consists of censored data. This article presents a robust engineering procedure for estimating the parameters of the fatigue‐life curve and its scatter, which combines an inverse power law and the two‐parametric Weibull distribution. The presented methodology is tested on use cases that stem from the experimental fatigue‐life data. The results show that the proposed approach can yield a good estimate of the fatigue‐life model. Moreover, it can be further concluded that the sensitivity of the fatigue‐life model to the type I censored data strongly depends on the data scatter.
