Natural and anthropogenic causes have led to soil degradation, salinisation of inland areas, and groundwater. The degraded soils are unsuitable for primary agriculture, but can be utilised for saline aquaculture. ICAR-CIFE has initiated a selective breeding program for faster growth in common carp cultured at low salinity (6–8 ppt). The present study demonstrates the dynamic nature of physico-chemical parameters of Inland Saline Ground Water (ISGW) and the growth potential of selectively bred F1 generation of common carp using ISGW. About 1560 common carp fingerlings were stocked in two ponds, each representing a unique size class (> 100 g and < 100 g). "The water quality parameters, viz., temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, total hardness, total alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium recorded during the culture period had mean values of 30.27 ℃, 6.73 ppt, 8.48, 5.02 mg L−1, 1544.83 mg L−1, 217.29 mg L−1, 177.22 mg L−1 and 332.33 mg L−1, respectively". The average body weight of common carp at stocking in Pond 1 and Pond 2 was 42.43 g and 180.86 g, respectively. The average standard length at stocking for Pond 1 and Pond 2 was 10.57 cm and 16.57 cm, respectively. The overall means for harvest body weight and standard length at 200 days of culture in summer months were 432.48 ± 4.14 g and 22.72 ± 3.04 cm, respectively. The effects of standard length, sex of fish, and sex by pond interaction were found to be significant on the harvest body weight. The Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Feed Conversion Efficiency (FCE), and Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER) obtained for Pond 1 and Pond 2 were 2.19, 45.8, 1.53; 2.25, 44.44, and 1.48, respectively. The daily weight gain for Pond 1 and Pond 2 was 1.58 g and 1.61 g, respectively. In conclusion, the common carp reared in an inland saline environment showed a similar growth pattern in both size classes as reported in freshwater culture. Thus, the present study recommends common carp as a potential candidate species for inland saline aquaculture in degraded soils and advocates its scientific propagation. Thrombocytosis is present in more than 30% of patients with solid malignancies and correlates with worsened patient survival. Tumor cell interaction with various cellular components of the tumor microenvironment including platelets is crucial for tumor growth and metastasis. Although it is known that platelets can infiltrate into tumor tissue, secrete pro-angiogenic and pro-tumorigenic factors and thereby increase tumor growth, the precise molecular interactions between platelets and metastatic cancer cells are not well understood. Here we demonstrate that platelets induce resistance to anoikis in vitro and are critical for metastasis in vivo. We further show that platelets activate RhoA-MYPT1-PP1-mediated YAP1 dephosphorylation and promote its nuclear translocation which induces a pro-survival gene expression signature and inhibits apoptosis. Reduction of YAP1 in cancer cells in vivo protects against thrombocytosis-induced increase in metastasis. Collectively, our results indicate that cancer cells depend on platelets to avoid anoikis and succeed in the metastatic process.Platelets have been associated with increased tumor growth and metastasis but the mechanistic details of this interaction are still unclear. Here the authors show that platelets improve anoikis resistance of cancer cells and increase metastasis by activating Yap through a RhoA/MYPT-PP1 pathway.

Phonological acquisition processes are often associated with normal-hearing children. However, the phonological acquisition process in hearing-impaired children presents interesting challenges and variation in comparison to normal-hearing children. This systematic review aims to describe the phonological acquisition processes that hearing-impaired children underwent. An extensive literature search was carried out from March until May 2023 utilising three online database, which are Scopus, PubMed and JSTOR. Several studies such as cohort, case-control studies, and human cross-sectional studies, were chosen. From the 428 papers discovered, 32 studies were incorporated based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria focused on research papers that involved children with hearing impairment in various degrees, aged between 0 to 12 years old, and interventions that included both cochlear implant and hearing aid users. The major exclusion criteria were studies with subjects with any syndromes and studies that analysed sign languages. The results indicated that final and initial consonant deletion, fronting, stopping, vowelization, substitution, reduplication and assimilation are the phonological acquisition processes that hearing-impaired children undergo. Furthermore, it was found that word or language difference is not a factor that affects the phonological acquisition process in hearing-impaired children. Lastly, final consonant deletion is a common phonological process that both normal and hearing-impaired children undergo at their early stages of hearing. This review aids in bringing awareness to speech language pathologist on the need for early and targeted intervention for hearing-impaired children to tackle the phonological acquisition process these children undergo. Background: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) in a nonagenarian is a challenge and is usually performed under Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC). Combining TAVI and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) is associated with an increased risk of mortality. In this case report, we explore the challenges and strategies involved in successfully performing concomitant TAVI and PCI in a nonagenarian patient with Acute Decompensated Heart Failure (ADHF) and concurrent delirium under General Anaesthesia (GA). Iso -olefins, in the C 5 –C 8 range can potentially be blended with renewable gasoline fuels to increase their research octane number (RON) and octane sensitivity (S). RON and S increase with the degree of branching in iso -olefins and this is a desirable fuel anti-knock quality in modern spark-ignited direct-injection engines. However, these iso -olefins tend to form larger concentrations of aromatic species leading to the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Thus, it is important to understand the pyrolysis chemistry of these iso -olefins. In this study, a new detailed chemical kinetic mechanism is developed to describe the pyrolysis of tetramethyl ethylene (TME), a symmetric iso -olefin. The mechanism, which includes the formation of PAHs, is validated against species versus temperature (700–1160 K) measurements in a jet-stirred reactor at atmospheric pressure and in a single-pulse shock tube at a pressure of 5 bar in the temperature range 1150–1600 K. Synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometer (SVUV-PIMS) and gas chromatography (GC) systems were used to quantify the species in the jet-stirred reactor and in the single-pulse shock tube, respectively. The mechanism derives its base and PAH chemistry from the LLNL PAH sub-mechanism. The predictions are accurate for most of the species measured in both facilities. However, there is scope for mechanism improvement by understanding the consumption pathways for some of the intermediate species such as isoprene. The formation of 1, 2, and 3-ring aromatic species such as benzene, toluene, naphthalene and phenanthrene measured experimentally is analyzed using the chemical kinetic mechanism. It is found that the PAH formation chemistry for TME under pyrolysis conditions is driven by both propargyl addition reactions and the HACA mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
