The efficient management of social worker personnel is important since it involves a huge portion in its operations. However, the burnout and turnover rates of social workers are very high, which is due to dissatisfaction with the irregular and unequal schedules, despite the continuous improvement in the treatment of social workers and the enactment of work-related legislation in Korea. This means that changes in policy do not significantly contribute to improving worker satisfaction, which shows the necessity of the strategies to prevent the turnover of workers. Therefore, this study aims to propose a strategy for the staff scheduling of workers that considers the fairness in the shift distribution among workers and the individual preference for shift work by using the linear programming. A survey about the preferences for shift work is conducted that targeted the employees of a welfare facility in Korea to enhance the practicality of the model. The effectiveness and applicability of the developed mathematical model are verified by deriving a deterministic schedule for a worker via the system parameters that were obtained based on the survey and the rules of the welfare facility in the numerical experiment. Compared to the conventional schedule, the derived schedule shows an improvement in the deviations in the number of shifts workers and a reflection of the personal preferences. This can raise the social worker’s satisfaction, which will decrease intention on burnouts and turnover. It will consequently facilitate on managing human resources in welfare facilities.

In this study, we evaluated the usefulness of COPD subtypes identified through cluster analysis to predict the first AE. Patients and methods: Among COPD patients in the Korea COPD Subgroup Study (KOCOSS) cohort, 1,195 who had follow-up data for AE were included in our study. We selected seven variables for cluster analysis – age, body mass index, smoking status, history of asthma, COPD assessment test (CAT) score, post-bronchodilator (BD) FEV1 % predicted, and diffusing capacity of carbon monoxide % predicted. Results: K-means clustering identified four clusters for COPD that we named putative asthma-COPD overlap (ACO), mild COPD, moderate COPD, and severe COPD subtypes. The ACO group (n=196) showed the second-best post-BD FEV1 (75.5% vs 80.9% [mild COPD, n=313] vs 52.4% [moderate COPD, n=345] vs 46.7% [severe COPD, n=341] predicted), the longest 6-min walking distance (424 m vs 405 m vs 389 m vs 365 m), and the lowest CAT score (12.2 vs 13.7 vs 15.6 vs 17.5) among the four groups. ACO group had greater risk for first AE compared to the mild COPD group (HR, 1.683; 95% CI, 1.175–2.410). The moderate COPD and severe COPD group HR values were 1.587 (95% CI, 1.145–2.200) and 1.664 (95% CI, 1.203–2.302), respectively. In addition, St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire score (HR: 1.019; 95% CI, 1.014–1.024) and gastroesophageal reflux disease were independent factors associated with the first AE (HR: 1.535; 95% CI, 1.116–2.112). Conclusion: Our cluster analysis revealed an exacerbator subtype of COPD independent of FEV1. Since these patients are susceptible to AE, a more aggressive treatment strategy is needed in these patients. Keywords: clustering, prognosis, phenotype, asthma-COPD overlap, exacerbation, comorbidity

Dementia is a disease in which memory, thought, and behavior-related disorders progress gradually due to brain damage caused by injury or disease. It is mainly caused by Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia and several other risk factors, including genetic factors. It is difficult to treat as its incidence continues to increase worldwide. Many studies have been performed concerning the treatment of this condition. Rho-associated kinase (ROCK) and phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) are attracting attention as pharmacological treatments to improve the symptoms. This review discusses how ROCK and PDE-5 affect Alzheimer’s disease, vascular restructuring, and exacerbation of neuroinflammation, and how their inhibition helps improve cognitive function. In addition, the results of the animal behavior analysis experiments utilizing the Morris water maze were compared through meta-analysis to analyze the effects of ROCK inhibitors and PDE-5 inhibitors on cognitive function. According to the selection criteria, 997 publications on ROCK and 1772 publications on PDE-5 were screened, and conclusions were drawn through meta-analysis. Both inhibitors showed good improvement in cognitive function tests, and what is expected of the synergy effect of the two drugs was confirmed in this review.

SFTS phlebovirus ,viral RNA load ,mortality ,Microbiology ,QR1-502 - Abstract
The clinical characteristics and the effect of viral RNA loads on fatality in 56 patients with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) were analyzed. The non-survival group (12 patients) demonstrated a significantly higher mean age (77 years) than the survival group (44 patients, 65 years) (p = 0.003). The survival rates were 91.7% and 8.3% in patients with Ct values ≥30 and differed significantly (p = 0.001) in the survival and non-survival groups, respectively. The survival rates were 52.4% and 47.6% in patients with viral copy numbers ≥10,000 and 94.3% and 5.7% in patients with viral copy numbers p = 0.001). In a multivariate analysis, viral copy numbers and initial Acute Psychologic Assessment and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) scores were identified as the factors affecting fatality (p = 0.015 and 0.011, respectively). SFTS viral RNA loads can be useful markers for the clinical prediction of mortality and survival.

This study aimed to develop a heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) inhibitor liquisolid tablet with improved solubility to overcome low bioavailability issues. As an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), JIN-001, a novel Hsp90 inhibitor, was reported to have substantial in vitro antiproliferative and in vivo antitumor activity; however, JIN-001 was a crystalline solid with very low solubility in an aqueous solution, and therefore, Capryol 90, which has excellent solubilization ability, was selected as an optimal liquid vehicle based on solubility studies. JIN-001 liquisolid (JLS) powder was successfully prepared by dissolving JIN-001 in Capryol 90 and mixing colloidal silicon dioxide (CSD) used as an oil adsorption agent. The prepared JLS was confirmed to be amorphous. Based on the result of the solubility test of JLS, compared to JIN-001, the solubility of the former was significantly improved in all solvents regardless of pH. JLS tablets were prepared through wet granulation using JIN-001 and stable excipients based on the compatibility test. The developed JLS tablet significantly increased the drug release rate in all tested solutions; however, the liquisolid method had no significant effect on bioavailability in the pharmacokinetics study in beagle dogs. In conclusion, the liquisolid system influenced the solubility and dissolution rate of JIN-001.

Second, we investigated the characteristics of GOLD B patients and the natural course of GOLD B patients according to the 2017 GOLD guidelines. Methods: In total, 2,010 COPD patients in the Korean COPD Subgroup Study cohort were analyzed at baseline and 1 year after enrollment. Results: The 2011 GOLD C patients were redistributed to the 2017 A (64.5%) and C (35.4%) groups. The 2011 GOLD D patients were redistributed to the 2017 B (61.6%) and D (38.6%) groups. The GOLD B patients constituted 62.7% of all patients according to the 2017 classification. Such patients exhibited higher % predicted FEV1 values, longer six-minute walk distances, fewer symptoms, and lower inflammatory marker levels than GOLD D patients. Most GOLD B patients remained in that group (69.1%), but 13.8% progressed to group D at 1-year follow-up. The factors associated with progression from GOLD B to GOLD D were older age, higher modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) and St George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) symptom scores, and a lower % predicted FEV1 value. Conclusion: Severe symptoms, poorer health status, and greater airflow limitation increased patients’ risk of exacerbation and progression from group B to group D when the 2017 GOLD criteria were applied. Keywords: COPD, GOLD B, progression

However, little information exists regarding the relationship between the CB phenotype and the COPD assessment test (CAT) score. The goal of this study was to reveal the different pattern of CAT scores between CB and non-CB patients. Moreover, we aimed to investigate whether the CB phenotype is an independently associated factor for more symptom and high-risk groups. Methods: Data were obtained from the Korea COPD Subgroup Study cohort recruited from 46 centers in South Korea since April 2012. CB patients were defined as having a chronic cough and sputum for 3 months per year, for a period of 2 consecutive years. We investigated the pattern of CAT and subquestionnaire scores between CB and non-CB patients. We also analyzed the proportion of CB phenotypes in each Global initiative for chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) stage. Finally, we performed a logistic regression analysis to identify whether the CB phenotype was an independently associated factor for more symptom and high-risk groups. Results: Of the 1,106 study patients, 11.5% of patients were found to have a CB phenotype. CB phenotypes were most common in GOLD III (GOLD 2006) and GOLD D (GOLD 2015) stages. CAT scores were significantly higher in CB patients not only in terms of the total score but also for each subquestionnaire. Logistic regression revealed that the CB phenotype is an independently associated factor for more symptom and high-risk groups. Conclusion: The present study revealed that CB patients have higher CAT scores and subquestionnaire results compared to non-CB patients. Additionally, we demonstrated that the CB phenotype is an independently associated factor for both more symptom and high-risk groups. The transformation of ginsenoside Rb1 into a specific minor ginsenoside using Aspergillus niger KCCM 11239, as well as the identification of the transformed products and the pathway via thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography were evaluated to develop a new biologically active material. The conversion of ginsenoside Rb1 generated Rd, Rg3, Rh2, and compound K although the reaction rates were low due to the low concentration. In enzymatic conversion, all of the ginsenoside Rb1 was converted to ginsenoside Rd and ginsenoside Rg3 after 24 h of incubation. The crude enzyme (β-glucosidase) from A. niger KCCM 11239 hydrolyzed the β-(1→6)-glucosidic linkage at the C-20 of ginsenoside Rb1 to generate ginsenoside Rd and ginsenoside Rg3. Our experimental demonstration showing that A. niger KCCM 11239 produces the ginsenoside-hydrolyzing β-glucosidase reflects the feasibility of developing a specific bioconversion process to obtain active minor ginsenosides.

Schlieren visualization of the plume ejected from the microgas turbine nozzle was conducted to understand infrared signal characteristics of various shapes of the exhaust nozzle. At the same time, the precise temperature distribution and infrared signal measurement were performed and compared. The maximum thrust of the microgas turbine used in the experiment is 230 N, the maximum speed of revolution is 108,500 rpm, and the maximum exhaust gas temperature is 750 °C. Seven nozzles were used for this experiment which included a cone nozzle, five square nozzles with aspect ratios (AR) ranging from 1 to 5 and an S-shaped nozzle with aspect ratio 6. The infrared signal emitted from the exhaust plume decreased as the aspect ratio increased. Schlieren flow visualization images show that cone nozzle had a uniform flow pattern, while square nozzle had a bright triangle pattern in the dispersed plume. As the aspect ratio of square nozzles increased, a bright triangle pattern reduced in size. On comparing Schlieren visualization with the temperature distribution, it can be understood that the triangular shape of core plume plays a major role in the temperature diffusion with the surrounding air. Based on the temperature distribution and the results of the Schlieren visualization, three types of exhaust plume models are suggested. These three models are homogenous plume, intermediate plume and two-dimensional plume with hot core, which correspond to the cone nozzle, the AR2 square nozzle and AR5 square nozzle, respectively.

This study was conducted to investigate the hypotensive effect of egg white protein (EWP) hydrolysate (EWH) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). The hydrolysis of EWP was effectively performed with a combination of 0.5% bromelain and 1% papain at 50°C for 60 min. The resulting hydrolysate did not elicit an allergic reaction as confirmed by human mast cell activation test. The systolic and diastolic blood pressures of the SHRs fed the EWH diet were observed to be significantly or numerically lower than those of the other groups during the experimental period of 28 d. EWH treatment significantly (p

The thermal conductivity (κ) of two-dimensional conducting and transparent carbon nanosheets (CNSs) prepared by a catalyst- and transfer-free process is calculated for the first time by the optothermal Raman technique. A systematic structural analysis of CNSs reveals that the thickness of polymer films affects the interaction between molecules and a Si wafer significantly, thus helping to determine the ratio of sp2 and sp3 bonding configurations of carbon (C) atoms in the CNS. Notably, the holding time of carbonization can realize a hierarchical structure with graphitic carbon dots emerging from the CNS through the rearrangement of carbon atoms, leading to the excellent κ value of 540 W/(m·K) at 310 K. It is demonstrated that an appropriate increase in carbonization time can be an effective approach for improving the ratio of sp2- to sp3-bonded C atoms in the CNS. The thermal conductivity of the CNS with the highest ratio of sp2- to sp3-bonded C atoms exhibits superior behavior and is comparable to that of reduced graphene oxide and supported graphene, respectively. Finally, when the CNS with the highest κ value of 540 W/(m·K) was applied to a heater as the heat-dissipating material, the heater showed the temperature decrease by 14 °C compared to the case without the CNS. The catalyst- and transfer-free approach for the synthesis of CNSs is highly desirable for use as heat sink materials or substrates with heat dissipation functions for extensively integrated electronic devices.

Human–computer interface (HCI) methods based on the electrooculogram (EOG) signals generated from eye movement have been continuously studied because they can transmit the commands to a computer or machine without using both arms. However, usability and appearance are the big obstacles to practical applications since conventional EOG-based HCI methods require skin electrodes outside the eye near the lateral and medial canthus. To solve these problems, in this paper, we report development of an HCI method that can simultaneously acquire EOG and surface-electromyogram (sEMG) signals through electrodes integrated into bone conduction headphones and transmit the commands through the horizontal eye movements and various biting movements. The developed system can classify the position of the eyes by dividing the 80-degree range (from −40 degrees to the left to +40 degrees to the right) into 20-degree sections and can also recognize the three biting movements based on the bio-signals obtained from the three electrodes, so a total of 11 commands can be delivered to a computer or machine. The experimental results showed the interface has accuracy of 92.04% and 96.10% for EOG signal-based commands and sEMG signal-based commands, respectively. As for the results of virtual keyboard interface application, the accuracy was 97.19%, the precision was 90.51%, and the typing speed was 5.75–18.97 letters/min. The proposed interface system can be applied to various HCI and HMI fields as well as virtual keyboard applications.

In computer graphics, fluid-like motion is an important and challenging problem with many applications. Currently, the graphical performance and resolution of the mobile phone is highly improved; therefore, mobile 3D games are more and more popular items in the field of mobile services. Yet interactive physically-based fluid simulation is still challenging for mobile platforms. Stable and fast fluid simulation methods are well developed in PC and console games, but fluid simulation and interactive fluid models still have many problems in the mobile environment. We studied and implemented physically- based models for fluids like fire and smoke effects on a Mobile 3D environment.

Work function of carbon nanosheets (CNSs) is easily controlled using various chloride-based metal precursors. The metal ions in the precursors are reduced despite the simple spin coating without post-treatment due to electron transfer from the CNSs to the ions. The work function of CNSs doped with AuCl3, ZnCl2, and CoCl2 presented values of 4.91, 4.77, and 4.69 eV, respectively, which are significantly higher than pristine CNSs (4.60 eV). The reduced metal nanoparticles locally induced electronic modification of the CNSs located in the vicinity, leading to transparent conducting electrodes with high work functions and subsequently a high power conversion efficiency of ∼2.01% for an ITO-free OPV incorporating a AuCl3-doped CNS electrode.

This study investigated the effects of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of franchise coffee shops on their corporate image and their customers&rsquo, behavioral intention. From 5 October 2017 to 26 October 2017, a total of 300 survey questionnaires were distributed, out of which 285 were analyzed. Accordingly, among the dimensions of CSR, only the economic, discretionary, and legal responsibilities had significant effects on corporate image. Moreover, corporate image had a significant effect on customers&rsquo, behavioral intention. Therefore, the CSR of franchise coffee shops is an important antecedent of corporate image, while corporate image is an important antecedent of behavioral intention. With respect to the pyramid of CSR, economic responsibilities should be first fulfilled prior to other social responsibilities. In addition, CSR programs will become the core task of corporate sustainable management because CSR can potentially influence consumers to have a positive behavioral intention and can result in product preferences by conveying a particular corporate image.

Extracts of rabbit-eye blueberries (Vaccinium virgatum) were investigated for in vitro neuroprotective and in vivo learning and memory effects in mice under trimethyltin (TMT)-induced neurotoxicity. Blueberry anthocyanins showed high in vitro antioxidant activities in ABTS and 2’,7’-dichlorofluorescein diacetate (DCF-DA) assays. In a cell viability assay using MTT, anthocyanins showed protective effects, and lactate dehydrogenase release into the medium was effectively inhibited. Drug-induced cognitive deficits, examined in vivo using Y-maze and passive avoidance testing, were ameliorated by the anthocyanin fraction. HPLC analysis showed that delphinidin was the predominant anthocyanin. After behavioral testing, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities and lipid peroxidation in the mouse brain were investigated for biochemical changes. Administration of blueberry anthocyanins reduced the level of TMT-induced memory injury via inhibition of the AChE activity and lipid peroxidation.

Contains fulltext : 125374.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) BACKGROUND: Edoxaban is a direct oral factor Xa inhibitor with proven antithrombotic effects. The long-term efficacy and safety of edoxaban as compared with warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation is not known. METHODS: We conducted a randomized, double-blind, double-dummy trial comparing two once-daily regimens of edoxaban with warfarin in 21,105 patients with moderate-to-high-risk atrial fibrillation (median follow-up, 2.8 years). The primary efficacy end point was stroke or systemic embolism. Each edoxaban regimen was tested for noninferiority to warfarin during the treatment period. The principal safety end point was major bleeding. RESULTS: The annualized rate of the primary end point during treatment was 1.50% with warfarin (median time in the therapeutic range, 68.4%), as compared with 1.18% with high-dose edoxaban (hazard ratio, 0.79; 97.5% confidence interval [CI], 0.63 to 0.99; P

We synthesized highly flexible carbon nanosheets (CNSs) as transparent conducting electrodes (TCEs) suitable for flexible organic solar cells (OSCs). The flexible electrodes were obtained by transferring CNSs, which were synthesized on recyclable silicon wafers using a catalyst-free process, onto a polyethylene terephthalate substrate. The TCEs exhibited a sheet resistance of ∼2.5 kohm/sq. and a transmittance of 61% even after 200 bending cycles, leading to a high power conversion efficiency of approximately ∼1.33%, which is very high compared to that of flexible OSCs composed of pristine graphene generated by chemical vapor deposition or chemical exfoliation methods.
