Background: Critical care nurses are expected to work with patients who present with a wide range of health problems, but may lack sufficient education, skill development, and resources needed for providing psychosocial cancer care. Objective: The purpose of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of nononcologic critical care nurses' experience working with patients and their families affected by cancer. Method: A phenomenological qualitative study using semistructured interviews was conducted with 15 nononcologic critical care nurses. Colaizzi's 7-stepmethodology was followed for data analysis and interpretation of findings. Audio recordings were transcribed verbatim, the narrative data were analyzed and coded, and themes were identified that were confirmed by participants. Results: Four themes emerged from the nurses' narratives: lack of professional preparation refers to the perceived lack of education, skill development, and resources; collaboration and teamwork pertain to the importance of communication and moral support; being present expresses their perceived role in providing compassionate care; and nurtured empathy reflects the impact of cancer care on the nurses. Discussion: The narratives provide insight into the experience and perceptions of the nononcologic critical care nurses caring for patients with cancer. Background: Communication is a key tool in the nursing profession. It is known that listeners are sensitive to the speaker's voice and interpret the speaker's intentions primarily from the non‐verbal signal conveyed. Aim: To map and discuss the current state of knowledge and research evidence on professional voice use in health and nursing care. Design and Method: A scoping review adherent to the EQUATOR guidelines PRISMA‐ScR. Data Sources: Searches in the EBSCO, CINAHL, Medline, PubMed, PsychInfo and PsycArticles databases were conducted between 1 and 28 February 2023. Results: According to the data (n = 23), health professionals use voice as a vital aspect of caring communication and caring relationships, and in leadership as well as inter‐professional collaboration, to facilitate information exchange and understanding and promote shared decision‐making. The data showed that there is also a rising tendency to explore vocal demands and problems among health professionals. No studies were found on the use of voice in digital health and nursing care services or by social robots. Most of the reviewed studies were cross‐sectional, rather small, and focused primarily on the perspectives of healthcare professionals. Conclusion: The use of voice should be explored as a vital aspect of caring communication and caring relationships from the patients' perspective, and the effects of voice use on listeners' emotions and actions should be examined in different contexts with modern, voice‐specific data collection methods. Studies focusing on voice use in digital health care and by social robots are also needed. By integrating training programmes, education and technological innovations, health care can leverage the full potential of voice‐based communication to promote a more coordinated and patient‐centred care environment, true inter‐professional collaboration and effective leadership. Objective: To clarify the knowledge and practical skills needed for cancer pain management among nurses on remote islands in Japan and related factors nationwide. Setting: Due to geographical factors, nurses working on remote islands in Japan have few opportunities to attend training programs, which makes it difficult to acquire the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide pain management for patients with cancer. Methods: We conducted a self‐administered questionnaire survey regarding knowledge and practical skills in pain management for patients with cancer. Design: Cross‐sectional study. Participants: Nurses working in cancer pain care in medical facilities and home care on remote islands throughout Japan. Results: We analysed 128 responses. Regarding knowledge, the average accuracy level was 49.1%. Items with a low accuracy rate included selecting medicine according to the type of pain and the patient's condition. Regarding practice, the items with low scores included analgesics appropriate for the type of pain and relating physical pain to mental, social and spiritual aspects. The most common significant factor in both knowledge and practice was related to postgraduate training. Conclusions: These findings suggest that to improve the knowledge and practical skills for cancer pain management among nurses on remote islands in Japan, it is necessary to incorporate clinical reasoning into basic education and establish remote education systems and consultation systems with other facilities. Although nursing seems to understand itself and its practice as complex, the literature is less clear about what this actually means. While complexity is discussed as an attribute of nursing, it is also suggested that complexity in nursing remains misunderstood and poorly articulated, is devalued, is not considered as a measure of health outcomes and remains invisible. Despite the overarching lack of a definition, some nurse scholars have conceptualized complexity as a complex intervention. For these authors, complexity becomes a complex intervention defined as that which is composed of component parts interacting in a variety of ways that influence the delivery of and outcomes of health‐related interventions for populations. Conceptualizing complexity as a complex intervention forces nursing to embrace and adopt a received interpretation of complexity as expressed through complexity theory and complexity science. While complexity theory may afford us some tools for thinking about complexity, when we deconstruct nursing complexity to explicitly determinate and quantifiable tasks, this artificially narrowed orientation to complexity reveals an oversimplified explanation of the complexities associated with nursing and serves to blind us to its real qualities. Through a consideration of complexity from a Western philosophical tradition, I demonstrate that when nursing adopts the received interpretation of complexity as a complex intervention, this perspective on complexity contains nursing epistemologically and ontologically. I offer an extended conceptualization of complexity framed upon the consideration that nurses assume complexity and do not reduce it; that nurses have the capacity to not be paralysed by complexity and have developed logics to mobilize it in productive ways. Mobilizing complexity through navigating paradox and contradiction shapes an orientation to complexity that embraces an extended epistemology. This extended epistemology is characterized by a 'yes/and' mindset that expresses the dynamic and generative relationship between forms of knowledge which reflects complexity that characterizes nursing. Background: Palliative care is often suboptimal for patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD). Ascites remains the most common complication in ESLD. Though long-term abdominal drains (LTAD) are commonly used in refractory malignant ascites, the standard care for ESLD is hospital drainage (large volume paracentesis (LVP)). There is an ongoing National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funded trial (REDUCe 2 Study) (ISRCTN269936824) comparing palliative LTAD to LVP in ESLD. This 35-site trial is being conducted in England, Scotland and Wales. Aim: To understand the views and experience of healthcare professionals (HCP) on the use of palliative LTAD in ESLD. Methods: An electronic survey comprised of seven questions with fixed quantitative options and three exploratory questions was used between August--December 2019. The survey was distributed electronically via the British Association for Study of Liver newsletter and to relevant hospital departments in Southeast England and Northeast London. An email reminder was sent at 4 and 8 weeks after the initial invitation to the survey. Results: There were 211 respondents (hepatologists (36.5%), specialist nurses (24.6%), gastroenterologists (16.6%), trainees (17%) and others (5.2%)). All respondents had access to LVP, 86% to a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt procedure for patients, 67% to LTADs and 10% to other options, such as the automated low-flow ascites (ALFA) pump. The majority of respondents to the survey (68%) reported their experience of using LTAD. Almost all respondents (91%) were willing to consider LTAD in ESLD. However, the main deterrents of this were the perceived risk of infection (90%), followed by LTAD management in community (57%). Some 51% of those with prior experience of using LTAD reported clinical complications for patients (including bleeding, infection and renal impairment), 41% reported technical issues and 35% inadequate community support. Conclusions: Almost all HCPs are willing to consider palliative LTAD in refractory ascites due to ESLD, but the main deterrents are the perceived infection risk and lack of published data to guide community management. The REDUCe 2 trial will clarify if these concerns are real and provide conclusive evidence on role, if any, of palliative LTADs in this vulnerable and under researched cohort with ESLD. Background: It is necessary to find ways to mediate the relationship between role overload and missed nursing care in settings where nursing staffing is inadequate. This study aimed to identify the single and multiple sequential mediation effects of organizational support, nurse-physician collaboration, and nurse-nurse collaboration on the relationship between role overload and missed nursing care. Methods: Data were collected from 237 registered Korean nurses working in general wards in October 2022. The measures used were the modified role overload scale, nurse-physician collaboration scale, nurse-nurse collaboration scale, a short version of the Perceived Organizational Support Scale, and the modified Missed Nursing Care Scale. Data were analyzed using PROCESS macro in SPSS. A hypothesis test was performed using Model 81, proposed by Hayes, which includes serial multiple mediators. Results: Organizational support, nurse-physician collaboration, and nurse-nurse collaboration showed a mediation effect on missed nursing care. Organizational support, nurse-physician collaboration, and nurse-nurse collaboration showed significant multiple sequential mediation effects on the relationship between role overload and missed nursing care. When the indirect effect sizes of nurse-physician collaboration were compared with those of nurse-nurse collaboration in both single and multiple sequential mediation paths, the indirect effect of nurse-physician collaboration was greater than that of nurse-nurse collaboration on the relationship between role overload and missed nursing care. Conclusions: As an alternative strategy to reduce missed nursing care in situations with insufficient nursing staffing, organizational support should precede nurse-physician and nurse-nurse collaboration. Purpose: To examine the knowledge, stress levels, and attitudes of clinical nurses regarding care for individuals considered the oldest-old (i.e., aged ≥80 years) and to identify related factors. Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, data were collected via an online structured questionnaire survey administered to 128 clinical nurses. Results: Participants had low levels of knowledge about the oldest-old with hearing impairments or mental health problems (e.g., depression, anxiety, delirium), and high levels of stress. Factors influencing attitudes toward the oldest-old were graduate or higher educational level (p = 0.002), ≥10 years of work experience (p = 0.049), and lower stress (p = 0.033). The explanatory power of the regression model was 18.1%. Conclusion: Further research and development programs should aim to promote positive attitudes toward care for older adults among nurses and develop methods to reduce and better manage stress when caring for these individuals. Background: Job satisfaction has garnered significant interest across multiple disciplines as it plays a vital role in shaping human resource strategies. In the field of nursing, enhancing job satisfaction can help prevent workforce shortages. Work values and job-related characteristics are significant predictors of job satisfaction. However, the influence of factors may change as younger generations join the nursing workforce. Although research on generational commonalities and differences in work values is increasing, there is insufficient information on generational differences in the interplay between work values and job satisfaction. This study investigated the factors associated with job satisfaction of new nurses in each generational group based on a work value perspective. Methods: A total of 280 new nurses (151 from Generation Y and 129 from Generation Z) were selected from the Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to determine the factors associated with job satisfaction in both groups. Results: Most participants graduated with a diploma (61.1%), were paid less than the average salary of each group (60.4%), and conducted shift (72.9%) and overtime work (64.3%). Work values and job satisfaction levels were not significantly different between the two groups. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that career growth and task work values were associated with job satisfaction for Generation Z, while task, reputation, and environment work values were associated with job satisfaction for Generation Y. Among the job-related characteristics, nurses' job tenure was associated with job satisfaction in both groups; salary and overtime had varying relationships with job satisfaction between the two generations. Conclusions: Understanding generational differences is crucial for improving the effective management of new generational nurses. Our study findings support that different work value dimensions and job-related characteristics were associated with job satisfaction in each generation. Accordingly, it is essential to develop distinct initiatives, such as a well-structured program, to support the continued career growth of the new Generation Z nurses, thereby enhancing their job satisfaction. Background & Aim: The prevalence of hospitalized patients with various medical diagnoses and a history of drug use disorders in hospitals is high. Considering the high prevalence and numerous problems of the medical staff in caring for these patients, it is very reasonable to consider it as one of the health priorities that endangers the quality of care. The purpose of this study is to explain and clarify the challenges of nurses in caring for hospitalized patients with substance use disorders. Materials & methods: This qualitative study was conducted in 2023 at the University of Rehabilitation Sciences and Social Health. The study was conducted using Elo and Kingas style content analysis. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with an average time of 45 minutes per interview. The participants were 12 nurses working in hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, who were selected by purposive sampling. Results: 280 codes, 14 subcategories and 4 main categories were the results of the analysis of the interviews. The theme of burnout in providing care was extracted through four main categories of cultural misconceptions, providing more care, condemning attitude and complexity of pain management. Conclusion: Care and attitude challenges in the care of these patients create concerns in the nursing community regarding the safety of patients and the quality of care. Therefore, the relevant authorities should pay attention to the perceived challenges of nurses and try to plan to solve them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of a training program on perceptions of caring culture among Turkish nurses and investigate the relationships among caring culture, job satisfaction, and intention to leave. Background: Every organisation has its on culture with its vairous components including values, symbols, practices and policies. Healthcare organizations need a favorable caring culture to support nurses and other professional working in the organisation. Methods: This was a quasi‐experimental trial of an educational intervention conducted between October and December 2020 at a university hospital in Turkey. The sample of the study consisted of 86 nurses. A four‐week training program based on caring culture was provided for the training group. The data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Turkish version of the Caring Culture Survey, and the Job Satisfaction Scale. Intention to leave was measured with a single question. Findings: The mean total caring culture and personal caring scores of the training group were significantly higher after the training than before (p < 0.05). There were significant positive correlations between the mean caring culture total and subscale scores of the participants and their total job satisfaction scores. Besides, there were significant negative correlations between the caring culture total and subscale scores of the participants and their intentions to leave, but these relationships were weak or moderate (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This training program based on caring culture can contribute to improving the caring culture perceptions of nurses. Caring culture is positively related to job satisfaction and negatively related to intentions to leave. Implications for nursing and health policy: Healthcare organizations should prioritize creating a caring culture and designing initiatives that focus on caring culture. There is evidence that healthcare can be executed differentially depending on the gender of patients, researchers, and clinicians. The aim was to analyze the possible existence of nursing gender differences in pain management produced by arterial puncture for blood gas analysis. A cross-sectional, multicenter study designed was conducted in Castilla-la Mancha (Spain). Variables of interest were collected from nurses in the public health system of a European region through a questionnaire. Data were collected for four months; the primary outcome was the use of any intervention to reduce pain and the explanatory variable was the nurse's gender. Bivariate analysis was carried out to assess associations between gender and pain-reducing interventions and a multivariate model was created with those factors that were relevant using logistic regression. A significantly higher proportion of men reported using some form of intervention (45% vs. 30%) and had more specific training (45.9% vs. 32.4%). The adjusted probability of using pain-reducing interventions by men was 71% higher than women. Thus, we found gender differences in the management of pain caused by arterial punctures performed by nurses as the main healthcare providers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Organ donation after brain death is an alternative to living organ donation, which has various risks and is a means of addressing organ supply shortages. In South Korea, primarily, the organ donation decision is made by the brain-dead donor's family under the guidance of medical staff. Intensive care unit nurses, who are consistently present with patients, can significantly influence families' decision-making process. Hence, nurses' experiences of caring for brain-dead donors should be explored to obtain detailed explanations of the related complex social phenomena. This qualitative study aimed to understand the structure and nature of nurses' experiences using Colaizzi's phenomenological method. Data were collected from 10 intensive care unit nurses from a hospital-based organ procurement organization between June 27 and September 10, 2022. Twelve themes and 5 components were identified from participants' interviews, including “nursing with regret,” “enduring agony from repeatedly caring for deceased organ donors,” “lack of a support system,” “deep emotional pain and scarring left after care,” and “balancing emotions.” It is necessary to clarify the required nursing interventions and role of nurses in intensive care units who care for brain-dead donors and develop specific guidelines to assist them in their work. Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting graduate nurses' intention to care for emerging infectious disease patients based on the theory of rational action. Methods: The participants were 127 graduate nurses who had graduated from in Gyeongsangbuk Province. Data were collected from March 25 to April 1, 2022. Descriptive statistics, the t-test, analysis of variance, the Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used for data analysis. Results: The mean scores for attitudes, subjective norms, and nursing intention for patients with emerging infectious diseases were 30.60±5.49, 30.17 ±6.38, and 69.19±8.97, respectively. Nursing intention was significantly different according to major satisfaction (t=-3.02, p=.003) and the presence of medical personnel in the family (t=2.30, p=.023). Nursing intention had a significant positive correlation with attitudes (r=.44, p<.001) and subjective norms (r=.37, p<.001). The variables that significantly affected nursing intention were attitudes (β=42, p< .001), satisfaction with the nursing major (β=21, p=.008), and the presence of medical personnel in the family (β=.17, p=.026), with a total explanatory power of approximately 26%. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that the development and application of programs on positively changing attitudes toward patients with emerging infectious diseases and increasing satisfaction with the nursing major are needed. Background: Caring behavior is a major focus of the nursing profession and an important dimension of nursing practice that sets nurses apart from other healthcare professionals. Effective patient-centered care requires ensuring nurses have the emotional intelligence and happiness to address the daily demands of practice. The purpose of this study is to examine the emotional intelligence and happiness among nursing students and their relationship with caring behaviors. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive correlational study was conducted on nursing students (n = 363) from Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, via an online survey. Measures include demographic data survey, Oxford Happiness Questionnaire, Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, and Caring Behaviors Inventory scale. Descriptive and multiple regression analyses were conducted for this study. Results: Nursing students reported their highest degree of caring was in terms of 'respectful differences to others', while their lowest was in 'knowledge and skills'. Emotional intelligence and happiness were significant predictors of caring behaviors and explained the variance in assurance of human presence (17.5%), knowledge and skills (17.5%), respectful differences to others (18%), and positive connectedness (12.9%). In the final regression model, emotional intelligence and happiness were significant predictors of caring behaviors and explained 19.5% of the variance. Conclusions: Emotional intelligence and happiness among nursing students were found to be important factors to improve their caregiving behaviors. Introduction: This study explores the triage knowledge of nurses and identifies the factors that affect their knowledge. Methods: A descriptive was carried out between December 2020 and January 2021, with a sample of 104 voluntary nurses working in surgery and internal medicine clinics at a training and research hospital. Data were collected using a descriptive information form and Triage Decision-Making Inventory (TDMI). Results: The mean age of the participants was 30.03±7.85 years. There was a significant difference between professional experience and the scores attained from the cognitive ability and intuition subscales of the TDMI. We found a significant difference between the level of knowledge and the scores acquired from the TDMI and its subscales of cognitive ability, experience, and critical thinking (p<0.05). Nurses working in the surgical unit scored significantly higher on the cognitive ability subscale of the TDMI than those working in the department of internal medicine department (p<0.05). Participants who reported feeling comfortable and not challenged during triage decision-making scored statistically significantly higher on the cognitive ability subscale of the TDMI (p<0.05). Discussion and Conclusion: The study found that the average TDMI score of the participants was high and professional experience in surgical units, and knowledge, experience, and comfort with triage decision-making had a positive effect on the level of decisions in terms of triage decision-making. Besides emergency departments, triage decision-making in internal medicine and surgical clinics is thought to be useful in enhancing the quality of patient care and deciding on correct and appropriate nursing approaches. Introduction: COVID-19 is a new disease infecting a large number of people, and undoubtedly have psychological impacts on healthcare workers. Among healthcare staff, nurses are the most involved ones in fighting against COVID-19. Therefore, this study aimed to explore nurses' experiences of psychological consequences during caring patients with COVID-19. Methods: The present qualitative study was conducted using the conventional content analysis approach (Graneheim and Lundman) Iran. Participants in this study included 15 nurses working with patients with COVID-19, selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected using in-depth interviews. The rigor of data was assessed using the criteria proposed by Guba and Lincoln. Results: Nurses reported the four following psychological consequences of COVID-19 pandemic on caring patients with COVID-19: post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, physical exhaustion, and aggressive behaviors. Conclusion: The data showed that nurses experienced a variety of psychological consequences during caring patients with COVID-19. Objective: This review aimed to better understand barriers to and facilitators of the professional integration of internationally qualified nurses (IQNs) in Australia. Background: Nursing shortages are a critical global issue, including developed countries such as Australia, where about 20% of the nursing workforce has been trained overseas. IQNs face many challenges associated with the migration process itself; and their professional integration is crucial in retaining them in the workforce and in maintaining the quality of nursing care in Australia. Study design and methods: This review followed the JBI methodology for mixed methods systematic review. Web of Sciences, Scopus, Informit, ProQuest, Ovid, and Cinahl databases were searched from inception. Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods original studies, published in English, were considered. Screening, data extraction and quality assessment were conducted independently by two reviewers. The assessment of methodological quality used the JBI Qualitative Checklist and Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional studies, and the data were extracted using the JBI data extraction tool. Disagreements were resolved by a third researcher and the synthesis used a convergent integrated approach. Results: From an initial 110 studies, eight studies were included. Individual and social factors emerged as the main themes. The first theme was analysed in terms of two sub-themes: psychological adaptation plus communication and language. Social factors were analysed in terms of three sub-themes: a) cultural differences in the nursing role; b) support, mentoring and appreciation and c) discrimination and racism. Discussion: psychological adaptation and language proficiency are linked to personal factors. Cultural differences in the nursing role should be addressed with strong support and mentoring programs. Recognition of previous experience and appreciation of pre-existing skills are important facilitators. Discriminatory and racist behaviours continue in the work setting, yet are rarely reported. Conclusion: Discrimination and racism from colleagues, co-workers, and patients should be addressed with a more direct approach than is currently in place. Training of locally and internationally qualified nurses in intraprofessional cultural competence may improve interaction and communication, reduce racism and discriminatory practices, and increase quality of care. Implications for research, policy, and practice: This research may be of interest to policy makers, healthcare educators, healthcare workforce planners and healthcare institutions. This study contributes to our understanding of the phenomena of nurse migration, retention, and professional integration, especially in high income countries. It is also a call to address the persistence of discriminatory and racist practices in the Australian context, as well as the education in intraprofessional cultural competence of some local nurses who work with IQNs. This article describes the nursing experience of a nasopharyngeal cancer patient who is receiving concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The nursing period lasted from September 10 to November 27 in 2019. Patient data was collected through interactions, interviews, physical assessments, and evaluated with Gordon's 11 functional health patterns. The patient's health problems were identified as oral mucous membrane impairment, skin integrity impairment and feelings of powerlessness. Nursing care was applied to increase oral hygiene, wound care, and pain medication. Additionally, caring was provided with empathy, listening to the patient's needs, and encouraging positive thinking. Activities were suggested based on the patient's preferences; this increased her positive energy and made her feel she had more control over her life. Staff respected the patient's cultural differences, educated her on the treatment process and side effects, and provided individual, high-quality complete international medical care. Background: The continuing evolution of health care and the nursing profession includes the exponential growth of telehealth platforms. The goal of this study was to describe nurses' experiences with and perspectives on their practice with and future need for telehealth. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive mixed methods study was conducted with nursing graduates from a single university. Completed survey questions focused on demographics, current work status, plans for employment participation, and telehealth experience. Descriptive analysis was conducted with statistical software, with directed content analysis for narrative responses. Results: A total of 305 of 5,080 participants completed the survey (6% response rate). Nurses described perceived benefits and barriers to working in a telehealth environment. Nurses identified continuing education needs that could form the basis for a telehealth continuing education program to increase confidence in telehealth delivery. Conclusion: The identified telehealth educational needs will positively influence the formation of continuing education opportunities for practicing nurses. Background: Independent second-checking of medication is part of everyday practice across many parts of the NHS. A robust, independent second check is built into medication administration protocols to reduce the risk of drug errors affecting patients. Aim: This work aims to determine the barriers and facilitators regarding a robust independent second check of medication before administration to patients within adult critical care. Method: Nurses in adult critical care were invited to participate in focus groups. They were asked to discuss factors that they felt enabled or prevented a robust second check of medication. Thematic analysis was undertaken by three critical care pharmacists Findings: The major themes identified as barriers to an independent second check were: geography of the critical care unit; IT; routine; complex process; and personnel. Aim: To systematically review the available evidence from research exploring the image of nurses in the media. Background: Nurses have historically faced many challenges and have received media attention for such efforts. However, the image of nursing traditionally conveyed by media has failed to represent the real character and a positive image of the nursing profession. Review methods: For this scoping literature review, a search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, Web of Science and Dialnet to identify studies written in English, Spanish or Portuguese from the earliest date in the databases until February 2022. Four authors were involved in a two‐stage screening process. Data were subjected to quantitative content analysis. A decade‐by‐decade analysis was performed to track the evolution of the research. Results: Sixty studies were included. The analysis shows (1) an increasing interest in analysing the portrayal of nurses and nursing in media over time, especially from 2000 onwards; (2) a prevailing trend of focusing on one form of media when analysing the portrayal of nurses; (3) qualitative designs as the most frequent method for exploring the image of nursing; and (4) a predominantly negative image conveyed by media. Conclusions: There is a notable body of scientific evidence about the image of nurses and nursing portrayed in media. The interest in analysing media depictions of nursing has a long history. The included studies' samples showed heterogeneity, as they were obtained from different media, periods and countries. Implications for nursing: This scoping review is the first systematic review to provide a comprehensive map of what has been studied thus far regarding media depictions of nursing. It confirms the imperative need for nurses in different settings (academic, assistance or management fields) to maintain a proactive attitude towards addressing images of nursing and ensuring accurate representations. Background: Implementation of exercise training in people with kidney failure may be affected by clinicians' attitudes. Objectives: To investigate Danish nephrology nurses' and medical doctors' attitudes towards: exercise for people undergoing dialysis; use of physical activity interventions in chronic kidney disease; and to compare Danish and previously reported Australian nurse attitudes. Design: Cross‐sectional survey. Participants: Nurses and medical doctors from the nephrology field in Denmark. Measurements: The questionnaire attitudes towards exercise in dialysis, and questions about exercise advice, counselling and interventions. Results: Nephrology nurses (n = 167) and 17 medical doctors (women 92%, age 47 ± 11 years) from 19 dialysis units participated. There were no differences between nurses' and medical doctors attitudes about training. Ninety‐five % and 88% of nurses and medical doctors, respectively, agreed that most people undergoing dialysis could benefit from exercise. Exercise training was offered to people undergoing haemodialyses in 88% of 17 departments. Danish nurses reported more positive attitudes than Australian towards exercise (p < 0.05). Ninety‐five % and 86% of the Danish and Australian nurses, respectively, agreed/strongly agreed that most people undergoing dialysis could benefit from exercise. Six % and 35% of the Danish and Australian nurses, respectively, agreed/strongly agreed that most people with dialysis were too sick to exercise. Conclusion: Danish nephrology nurses and medical doctors had mostly positive attitudes to exercise training to people undergoing dialysis, and exercise to people with dialysis was offered frequently. Today's mental health care needs are diverse. After the COVID-19 pandemic, factors related to individuals, the environment, and their interactions represent complex and cumulative risks. Physical and mental health problems rely on early detection, trust building, care engagement, and disease identification to provide complete psychiatric assessment, management, and continuum of care for affected people. Thus, early detection and intervention in nursing is beneficial for the discovery and treatment of psychological symptoms. However, the nursing profession is divided into multiple specialties, and the current education system lacks integrated interdisciplinary psychiatric mental healthcare training. In this article, the multifaceted aspects of mental health care services and interdisciplinary nursing professional development in mental health are explored, covering the roles and tasks of interdisciplinary nurses, the function and purpose of psychological care in hospitals, reflections on the role of school nursing in adolescent mental health issues, and novel developments in domestic and international psychiatric mental health care. It is hoped that this article can promote reflections on psychological health issues for nurses and help promote cross-disciplinary consensus on nursing strategies to facilitate cooperation among multidisciplinary nurses to promote more comprehensive quality of care, social participation, and professional innovation. Nurses are living in unprecedented times and the first-line against the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurses see controversial issues and face different complications that lead to work-life conflicts and compromise patient safety. Finding volunteer nurses is a fantastic adventure in such a situation. This study attempted to analyze volunteer nurses' experiences and factors influencing care in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. A qualitative descriptive study was applied from Jun to May 2021 in four different hospitals in Iran. Data was collected by Semi-structured interviews (N:13) with an open-ended question until data saturation. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The study was approved by the ethics committee of Birjand University medical and science and was conducted in achievement of the moral standards in terms of voluntary participation, the confidentiality of data, anonymity, and verbal informed consent. Two main themes obtained were "A faith-based approach" and "Care, an opportunity for spiritual transcendence." Five categories are "Belief in a divine destiny," "Transformation of life meaning", "spiritual hedonism", "Wise self-sacrifice", and "Sacred Defense" and ten subcategories were extracted that indicated volunteer nurses' perspectives during the COVID-19 outbreak. Cultural and individual factors lead to making decisions in nurses. Themes indicate that spiritual perspectives, ethical issues, and religious points of view are factors that can influence willingness, commitment, and function of nurses. Spiritual transcendence is one of the most valuable humanistic situations that manifest for nurses than normal circumstances. It is pivotal for senior educational and clinical managers to identify, develop, and strengthen the capacity of nurses with such a vision to recruit them in high-responsibility departments, and know-how to transfer these perspectives to the next generation of nurses. Aims and Objective: To describe the experiences of nursing care and partnership nursing as expressed by children living with long‐term conditions. Background: Children with long‐term conditions have higher rates of hospitalisations and adverse events in hospital, yet little is known about their experiences of nursing care. How children perceive partnership in care with their families and nurses is of interest in the achievement of safe and effective care Design: An integrative review following Joanna Briggs Institute protocols for systematic reviews. Method: An integrative review was chosen following Joanna Briggs Institute protocols for systematic reviews. A total of 5150 articles were screened, with 251 full‐text publications reviewed. A total of 21 studies were included, three mixed‐method studies and 18 qualitative studies. This review has been reported as per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results: Four integrated findings were identified: "Children are aware of their surroundings and needs," "Children value positive communication," "Children want to be recognised as an individual in the triadic relationship, and this can be done through nurses using tailored play;" and "Children seek a shared decision‐making process." Discussion: Children wanted to be seen as an individual in Children and Young People's nursing as well as a child who craves security, fun and comfort, both from their families and nursing staff. Children described observing partnership between nursing staff and parents but felt uninvolved, with some children craving more knowledge and power to better understand their long‐term condition. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Further research is required on how Children and Young People's nursing staff can better support children and empower them to be active members in the shared decision‐making process if the child wishes to be involved. Objective: To synthesise the available body of qualitative work regarding the experiences of registered nurses and nursing students in managing emotional demands of care. Background: Care is the central part of nursing, and its provision is linked to interaction with patients. Comprehensive care allows emotions to be considered as an essential part of care. However, the emotional commitment that care demands poses a challenge for the nursing staff. Design: Noblit and Hare's interpretive meta‐ethnography, which was written and reviewed for reporting clarity using the eMERGe. Methods: A comprehensive systematic search strategy was undertaken in PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science and PsycINFO in January 2020. The search included terms related to the sample population, phenomenon of interest, purpose of the study and type of research. Original or mixed qualitative articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese were included if they addressed the emotional labour experiences of nurses or nursing students. Results: A line‐of‐argument synthesis based on the metaphor The link between task‐focused care and care beyond technique was developed. Three themes from analogous and refutational translations of findings in the included nine papers emerged: (1) forces to get involved in care; (2) the cost of caring and (3) need to vent. Conclusion: Nursing staff and students managed the emotional demands by adjusting their involvement in care. Care beyond technique is provided by nurses who have strength and motivation in themselves and in the interaction with patients to become emotionally involved in care. Task‐focused care avoids emotional exposure to patient suffering due to the personal cost involved. Venting and distancing are required to emotionally reconstruct themselves and to re‐engage in care. Relevance to clinical practice: Increased knowledge about these experiences may raise awareness of the emotional demands as part of the care process, to prevent their impact and favour their support. This pretest–posttest quasi-experimental study investigated the effect of an educational intervention on nursing students' compassion levels and their attitudes toward death and the care of the dying. Data were collected using the Death Attitude Profile - Revised (DAP-R), the Frommelt Attitude Toward Care Of The Dying (FATCOD) Scale, and the Compassion Scale (CS). The intervention improved participants' DAP-R scores. Participants had higher posttest FATCOD scores than the pretest scores. However, the difference was statistically insignificant. Participants had high CS scores. There was a slight increase in CS scores after the intervention. The results showed that the intervention improved participants' attitudes toward death and the care of the dying. The results also showed that compassion was an important factor. The failure of nurses to recognize human trafficking victims in the acute care setting is a serious problem. Nurses may fail to recognize common signs and symptoms of trafficked victims because of lack of experience, knowledge, or preexisting assumptions. This study identified nurses' common assumptions about human trafficking victims while demonstrating how focused human trafficking education program improved knowledge and self-efficacy. Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors affecting person-centered care among tertiary hospital nurses caring for patients with COVID-19. Methods: Study participants comprised 152 tertiary hospital nurses with experience caring for patients with COVID-19. Data were collected from September 1 to October 5, 2022 and analyzed using independent t-test, correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 26.0. Results: Person-centered care showed a statistically significant positive correlation with the nursing work environment (r=.46, p<.001) and teamwork (r=.49, p<.001). Hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that the variables of position (β=20 p=.014) in model 1 (F=6.20, p=.014), teamwork (β=47 p<.001) in model 2 (F=24.94, p<.001), and teamwork (β=.33 p=.002) in the final model influenced person-centered nursing (F=18.19, p<.001), and the explanatory power was 25.5%. Conclusion: The significance of nurses' teamwork has been emphasized because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Teamwork can be promoted by reviewing protocols for responding to severely ill patients with infectious diseases, which were revised during the COVID-19 period, and establishing appropriate systems to follow. Background: Structured Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR) training technique have been widely utilized in clinical and educational settings. Therefore, the current study investigated the effectiveness of an SBAR-based educational program in students' self-efficacy and clinical decision-making skills. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pretest and posttest design and a control group at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, Ahvaz, Iran. A total of 70 three- and fourth-year students were recruited for the study using the census method. The students were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups. The intervention group participated in an SBAR-based educational course consisting of eight sessions held in 4 weeks. Differences in the levels of self-efficacy and clinical decision-making skills before and after participation in the SBAR course were assessed and compared. Data were analyzed using descriptive tests, the Mann-Whiney U test, paired and independent t-tests, and the Wilcoxon test. Results: The intervention group demonstrated significantly higher levels of self-efficacy with a mean score of 140.66 ± 22.43 (P < 0.001) and clinical decision-making with a mean score of 75.31 ± 7.72 (P < 0.001); while in the control group, the mean score of self-efficacy and clinical decision-making skills was 85.34 ± 18.15 and 65.51 ± 4.49, respectively. Moreover, the Mann-Whitney U test showed that the levels of students' clinical decision-making skills were promoted to the next level after the intervention (P < 0.001); it means the distribution of the level of intuitive-interpretive skill was upgraded from 0 to 22.9%. Conclusion: The SBAR-based training programs can promote the self-efficacy and clinical decision-making skills of anesthesiology nursing students. Considering the weakness of the anesthesiology nursing curriculum at the undergraduate level in Iran, it can be expected that the SBAR-based training course should be included as an educational intervention in the curriculum of anesthesiology nursing students. Background: Hospice and palliative care nursing (HPCN) in China is mainly available at public primary care institutions, where nursing homes (NHs) are rarely involved. Nursing assistants (NAs) play an essential role in HPCN multidisciplinary teams, but little is known about their attitudes towards HPCN and related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed to evaluate NAs' attitudes towards HPCN with an indigenised scale in Shanghai. A total of 165 formal NAs were recruited from 3 urban and 2 suburban NHs between October 2021 and January 2022. The questionnaire was composed of four parts: demographic characteristics, attitudes (20 items with four sub-concepts), knowledge (nine items), and training needs (nine items). Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple linear regression were performed to analyse NAs' attitudes, influencing factors, and their correlations. Results: A total of 156 questionnaires were valid. The mean score of attitudes was 72.44 ± 9.56 (range:55–99), with a mean item score of 3.6 ± 0.5 (range:1–5). The highest score rate was "perception of the benefits for the life quality promotion" (81.23%), and the lowest score rate was "perception of the threats from the worsening conditions of advanced patients" (59.92%). NAs' attitudes towards HPCN were positively correlated with their knowledge score (r = 0.46, P < 0.01) and training needs (r = 0.33, P < 0.01). Marital status (β = 0.185), previous training experience (β = 0.201), location of NHs (β = 0.193), knowledge (β = 0.294), and training needs (β = 0.157) for HPCN constituted significant predictors of attitudes (P < 0.05), which explained 30.8% of the overall variance. Conclusion: NAs' attitudes towards HPCN were moderate, but their knowledge should be improved. Targeted training is highly recommended to improve the participation of positive and enabled NAs and to promote high-quality universal coverage of HPCN in NHs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims and objectives: The aim of this study was to explore older adults' perspectives about dignity and dignified nursing care during acute hospitalisation in Ghana. Background: Maintaining hospitalised older adults' dignity is an essential component of nursing care and one of the most important determinants of wellbeing. To date, no study has been published on older adults' perspectives of dignified nursing care in the African context. Study design: A qualitative descriptive research design. Methods: Twenty hospitalised older adults were purposively selected from the medical and surgical wards of a teaching hospital in Ghana. Data were gathered through semi‐structured interviews between April and August, 2021, and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis techniques. The SRQR checklist was used to document reporting of the study. Results: The following four themes were identified: Effective nurse–patient communication, Maintaining patients' privacy, Respectful and compassionate care provision and Providing quality and safe care. Dignity was preserved when patients were treated with respect and compassion, provided privacy, and had close family members involved in physical care. Identified barriers to dignity included inadequate information about their health condition, poor communication by the nurses, lack of autonomy, poorly designed healthcare infrastructure and inadequate privacy. Conclusions: Several enablers and barriers to dignified nursing care have been identified that have been discussed in previous studies. The unique factors identified in the Ghanaian context were family members' involvement in physical care influenced by cultural and religious beliefs, environmental barriers to privacy and dignity and inadequate involvement in decision making. Relevance to clinical practice: Nurses must treat older patients with respect, educate them about the health condition, involve them in care decisions, and identify their preferences regarding provision of hygiene needs, particularly in consideration of religious and cultural beliefs, including involvement of family members. Future planning of healthcare infrastructure needs to consider the importance of private cubicles with disability‐accessible ensuite bathrooms for patients' comfort and privacy. Background: A high level of competence among staff is necessary for providing patient-safe surgical care. Knowledge regarding what factors contribute to the professional development of specialist nurses in surgical care and why they choose to remain in the workplace despite high work requirements is needed. To investigate and describe the organizational and social work environment of specialist nurses in surgical care as part of studying factors that impact on professional development. Method: This was a cross-sectional study with a strategic convenience sampling procedure that recruited 73 specialist nurses in surgical care in Sweden between October to December 2021. The study was guided by STROBE Statement and checklist of cross-sectional studies. The validated Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire was used, and additional demographic data. Descriptive statistics were performed and the comparison to the population benchmarks was presented as the mean with a 95% confidence interval. To study potential differences among the demographic and professional characteristics, pairwise t tests were used with Bonferroni adjustment for multiple comparisons with a significance level of 5%. Results: Five domains were identified as factors related to success, as they received higher scores in relation to population benchmarks: quality of leadership, variation of work, meaning of work and work engagement as well as job insecurity. There was also a significant association between a having a manager with low nursing education and job insecurity (p = 0.021). Conclusions: Quality of leadership is important for the professional development of specialist nurses in surgical care. Strategic work seems to include managers with a higher nursing education level to prevent insecure professional working conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the effect of perceived organizational support, accountability and nurses' characteristics on missed nursing care under the impact of COVID‐19. Design: A cross‐sectional design was used to describe and predict nurses' characteristics. Methods: A sample of 536 Registered Nurses participated in the study from eight hospitals in different health sectors in Jordan (three public hospitals, three private hospitals and two teaching hospitals). Results: Communication problems had the highest impact on missed nursing care, compared with labour resources and material resources reasons. Higher patient: nurse ratio aggravated by COVID‐19 pandemic, years of experience, satisfaction with the income, perception of accountability and organizational support were among the factors associated with the levels of missed nursing care. Objective: describe the perception of nurses in primary care about prenatal care aimed at pregnant adolescents. Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study of a qualitative, developed in the Basic Health Units of Guamá in Belém -- Pará, from May to April 2021. Results: Fifteen nurses participated, guided by a semi-structured form, with the data analyzed using the Laurence Bardin technique, resulting in six categories about the perception of prenatal care with adolescents. We conclude that nurses are aware of the positive impact that nursing care has on the conduct of pregnancy and the formation of autonomy for adolescents. Conclusion: The perception of the positive impact of nursing care on prenatal care for pregnant teenagers is perceived, however, it needs structural improvements in care, continued training of professionals and early capture of pregnant teenagers. Aim: The study had three aims: to investigate how nurses working on an oncology and haematology ward managed the emotional labour involved in patient care; to determine whether there were differences in resilience and coping strategies between less experienced and more experienced participants; and to explore strategies that could assist less experienced nurses in managing the emotional labour of patient care. Method: A preparatory literature review was undertaken, following which six registered nurses participated in individual semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to identify themes in the interview transcripts. Findings: The themes that emerged were divided into two broad categories: factors that contributed to the challenging nature of nursing shifts and factors that reduced the challenging nature of nursing shifts. The second category had two subcategories: personal resources and institutional resources. Personal resources included experience, resilience, coping mechanisms, support networks and compassion satisfaction. Institutional resources included training and team support. Conclusion: There was no clear differences in coping strategies between less experienced and more experienced nurses. To mitigate the negative effects of emotional labour, oncology and haematology nurses could benefit from stress management training and ongoing clinical supervision with a focus on the restorative aspect. Background: Hypertension diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up depend on accurate blood pressure measurement; however, inaccurate measurement techniques are common among healthcare providers. To improve professional performance, continuous education is necessary. Distance education through virtual social network can be used as it is easy to use and accessible. Methods: This study adopted a randomized controlled trial design and was conducted at two hospitals in Mansoura, Egypt. The subjects were selected from two hospitals using Stratified random sampling method in proportion to the total number of nurses. Seventy nurses were included in this study and were randomly divided into the intervention (n = 35) and control (n = 35) groups using block randomization. Data were gathered before and after intervention using a blood pressure measurement knowledge questionnaire and a blood pressure measurement observation checklist. The blood pressure measurement error (the difference between the BP determined by each observer and the reference BP) was calculated for the randomly selected recordings in both groups. The intervention group received 24 blood pressure measurement education sessions using WhatsApp, while the control group received only routine education using traditional lecture. Results: No statistically significant differences in pretest knowledge scores, performance scores, and range of error were found between both groups, whereas, after intervention, knowledge scores were higher in the intervention group than those in the control group (p < 0.001). The range of error of systolic and diastolic blood pressure values significantly reduced after the intervention in the intervention group, and the posttest performance scores were higher than the pretest performance scores; however, the difference was not statistically significant. Purpose: This study is aimed to analyze the validity and reliability of the Individual Workload Perception Scale in Turkish (IWPSTR). Methods: Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), reliability analysis, test–retest, and descriptive statistics were used to analyze data. The sample group of the study consisted of 569 medical and surgical clinic nurses working in hospitals. Results: The content validity index was.983. The factor loadings of the IWPSTR were between.359 and.875, the variance accounted for in this study was 62.86%. Cronbach's alpha value was found to be.923 for the IWPSTR, and between.721 and.937 for its subscales. Test–retest reliability correlation was found.826. Conclusions: It was concluded that the Turkish version of IWPSTR, which includes 29 items and 5 subscales, could also be applied to nurses in Turkey. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Patient care nurses frequently report strain-based work interference with life (WIL). Strain-based WIL has broad effects that negatively impact patient care professionals in their work and nonwork domains, as well as their patients. Existing work is not clear on the underlying mechanisms that link daily job stressors to strain-based WIL, or how those mechanisms might operate differently depending on external contextual factors. Thus, the purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to investigate how stressors frequently reported by patient care nurses (i.e., patient suffering and inadequate preparation) might influence nonwork domains via the process of work-related negative rumination and (b) to understand how those relationships might differ depending on high or low perceived organizational constraints. To that end, this study incorporated a within subject daily diary design that ran for seven consecutive days, in which 168 patient care nurses took part. The resulting data suggest that work-related negative rumination mediates the within-person, positive relationships between strain-based WIL and the two patient care stressors. The data further suggest that the within-person relationship between inadequate preparation and strain-based WIL via rumination depends on a nurse's perceived level of organizational constraints as predicted by the underperformance as a stressor model. That is, when organizational constraints are high, that within-person relationship is weaker. These findings provide insight that can inform occupational-specific workplace interventions designed to disrupt the job stress process and protect the health and well-being of nurses and their patients.
