Groundnut (or peanut, earthnut, monkey nut) is taxonomically classified as Arachis hypogaea and it belongs to family Fabaceae (Leguminosae). In Pakistan, the groundnut is mainly cultivated in rain fed areas, mostly in Punjab, also in some areas of Sindh and North-West Frontier Province. A field experiment was carried out at the Horticultural Research area, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during the year 2021. Two ground nut cultivarrs (“Golden” and “Bari-2011”) were used and sulphate of potash (SOP) was used @ 60, 80, 100 kg ha-1as treatments. Different growth and yield related parameters were studied in this experiment, such as days to flowering, plant height (cm), canopy width (cm), pods plant-1, kernels plant-1, 100 kernels weight, pod yield ha-1, edible portion (%) and non-edible portion (%). Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used with three replications. Results revealed that the potassium applied @ 80 kg ha-1 significantly affected for canopy width (1213.5 cm), pods plant-1 (52.27), kernels plant-1 (100.99), weight of 100 kernels (58.07 g), pod yield (1590.4 kg ha-1) and edible portion (63.50 %). To compare cultivars, Bari-2011 had superior results for early flowering (28.37 days), plant height (18.68 cm), canopy width (1102.9 cm), pods plant-1 (48.00), kernels plant-1 (94.43), weight of 100 kernels (55.26 g), yield (1543.6 kg ha-1) and edible portion (65.31%) as compared to Golden. The results revealed that potassium application at 80 kg ha-1 produced better results for growth and pod yield related attributes of the groundnut. Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens L’Hér.) is an important commercial horticultural plant extensively used in outdoor landscaping. Seed emergence has always remained a problem in geranium due to its hard seed nature. Hence its germination and other emergence-related attributes need to be adequately tested. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the germination and seedling growth of geraniums under different types of containers. In this regard, the seeds of two varieties of geranium viz. Large FID mixed and Star mixed were planted in different types of containers. The containers included black trays plastic pots, plastic bags, and nonwoven fabric bags. The seed emergence and other germination related parameters were significantly affected by the different types of containers. However, varieties exhibited similar responses for most germination and growth characteristics. Data were collected for seed germination, mean germination time, germination index and seedling vigor index. The type of containers showed a significant impact on seedling growth and development. The taller plants with more leaves and maximum biomass production were recorded from seeds sown in nonwoven fabric type bags. The results pertaining to varieties demonstrated that Star mixed showed better emergence and vigorous seedlings in comparison with large FID mixed. The taller seedlings with maximum leaves and shoot biomass were also recorded from Star mixed grown in nonwoven fabric type bags. Based on the results, it is concluded that germanium may be raised in nonwoven fabric bags for better seed emergence and seedling growth and development.

Nitrogen (N) is one of the critical nutrients for productivity and quality of cultivated crop species. However, its overused in crop cultivation caused several environmental concerns. Hence its proper use in agriculture is not only pre-requisite for sustainable crop cultivation but also necessary to control environmental pollution. A field trial was designed at experimental area of Department of Horticulture, Sindh Agriculture university Tando Jam, Pakistanto test the response of garlic varietiesto N nutrition in terms of growth and bulb attributed traits during the winter season, 2020-21. The poor seedling rootstock is a key factor in mango yield reduction. Container-based study was conducted to evaluate the effect of seed priming and growing media on seedling rootstocks of mango. Hydropriming of seed was performed by using distilled water, while gibberellic acid (GA3) and NPK fertilizer (Solo plant) were used for hormonal and nutripriming, respectively. In second part, the primed and unprimed seeds were planted in four different growing media (GM) including GM1, GM2, GM3 and GM4. Data showed that seed germination (%), germination index (GI), seedling vigor index (SVI), height of seedling, stem diameter, chlorophyll content, electrolyte leakage of leaf, nutrient (N, P, K, Ca and Mg) contents in leaf tissue was significantly altered by both seed priming and growing media respectively. In case of priming treatments, hormonal primed seeds had the best seed germination (77.01%), stem diameter (9.65 mm) and electrolyte leakage of leaf (13.01%); while N (1.13%), P (0.14%), K (0.87%), Ca (2.40%) and Mg (0.34%) content of leaf tissue was observed maximum in nutripriming treatment. Whereas, seed germination (71.96%), germination index (11.15) and stem diameter (9.41 mm) had greater values in response to the GM2 treatment. While GM4 grown seedlings had higher seeding height (33.81 cm), N (1.17%), P (0.15%), K (0.98%), Ca (2.64%) and Mg (0.38%) content of leaf tissue. It is concluded that seed germination and seedling growth attributes had a greater influence of GA3, while mineral nutrient contents of leaf had a significant effect on nutripriming. Among growing media, GM2 was observed better for growth parameters while GM4 for mineral nutrient contents of leaf..

Street hawkers have been part of urban street life in cities of developed and developing countries. The study focuses on the socio-economic conditions of street vendors in Hyderabad, Sindh province, Pakistan. A review of the existing literature shows an acute shortage of empirical evidence on street hawkers in Pakistan, especially in Hyderabad, Sindh. This study aims to bridge this gap by contributing empirical evidence on the subject. For this study, a survey has been conducted to identify the socio-economic condition of the street vendors, their reasons for joining street vending, and problems faced by the street hawkers during street vending. This survey covered 120 street vendors in Hyderabad. The data has been collected from both primary and secondary sources. The secondary data has been collected from research articles published in journals, and books, newspapers, and research reports published by various organizations. The findings of the study show that the street hawkers significantly contributed to the socio-economic uplift of the masses at a larger level. The street hawkers have very little capital to invest in their businesses.

This paper looks at the value and benefits of creativity in the workplace, with insights from a participant who runs a start-up hair product company. By doing a case study on a specific firm, the goal of this paper is to acquire a comprehensive understanding of what creativity is and its vital application or impact in management. It also analysed the importance of creativity at an organizational and individual level using data gathered from a sales manager from Dubai Duty Free Airport, UAE. This study utilised qualitative case study method to collect data to fulfil the aim of having in-depth knowledge of the concept as well as to examine the significance and effect of creativity at an organizational level. The researchers gathered the primary data through an in-depth interview with the participant. The thematic content analysis method is utilised to analyse the obtained data. This study concludes that creativity is applied to create value for customers. As mentioned by the interviewee, a personalized approach should be considered for every customer to ensure that their specified needs are achieved.

Treatments offered in clinics are now ineffective due to antibiotic resistance in particular bacterial strains. Plant-based antibiotics are in high demand in developing and developed countries; they are common medications that are simple to use, pose no environmental risks, have no adverse side effects, and are competitively priced. This study aimed to screen plant-based medicine against Erythromycin-resistant bacteria such as E. coli, Enterobacter, Enterococcus, and E. Faecalis. The disk diffusion method and the agar well diffusion method were used to determine the zone of inhibition of Coriandrum Sativum L. (coriander), Zingiber officinale (ginger), and Spinacia oleracea (spinach). Minimum inhibitory concentration was evaluated via UV-visible Spectrophotometry at 600nm, while Polymerase Chain Reaction and Electrophoresis identified genomic activity for ErmB. Coriander was found to be the most effective against Erythromycin-resistant bacteria, and ErmB genes were found in almost all of the isolates. The experiment was carried out at the Horticulture Garden, Department of Horticulture, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, Pakistan, during the cropping season March 2017 to May 2017. To estimate germination percentage, vegetative growth and flowering performance of Cockscomb (Celosia cristata L.) in response to different potting media. Aim of the research was to evaluate the best potting media and select the best segregating genotype of Cockscomb for superior performance on flowering traits. The trial was laid out in randomized complete block (RCBD) with three replications. The experiment consisted with two genotypes G1 (Amigo Red) and G2 (Prestige scarlet) were planted in different potting media T1 (100% Canal sediment), T2 (75% Canal sediment + 25% FYM), T3 (50% Canal sediment + 50% Coco peat), T4 (25% Canal sediment + 50% bagasse + 25% Coco peat) and T5 (25% Canal sediment + 70% bagasse + 5% Coco peat) in the earthen pots. Our present findings of genotype (G2) in potting media (T4) indicated highest seed germination percentage (87.50%), germination index (1.77), plant height (36.55 cm), seedling vigor index (3394.2), fresh weight of shoot (56.40 g), fresh weight of root (13.35 g), fresh weight of a single flower (16.97 g), days taken to initiate flowering (74.88 days), number of flowers per plant (5.05) and chlorophyll content of leaf (36.08%). To compare mean of the G2 obtained better results in comparison to genotype (G1). The interaction of the genotypes and potting media was highly significant in G2 from the plants grown in (T4) potting media. This study showed that based on the potting media performance of the Cockscomb genotypes found maximum performance in (T4) potting media at Tandojam location. Others potting media along with genotypes and geographical locations might be explored for future research activities.

Antibiotics were one of the modern advancements in the 20th century, but they have been less active and have become more alarming due to antibiotic resistance. Antimicrobial resistance among pathogenic microorganisms is rapidly increasing, posing a danger to human health. However, the most essential biologically bioactive components are sourced by plants and are industrially used to produce drugs against several antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Antimicrobial agents based on plants possess fewer side effects and have immense potential than available drugs in clinics to combat superbugs. This study investigated bioactive components of Lactuca sativa (Lettuce) that were energetic in our research against Clarithromycin-resistant bacteria. Lactuca sativa had a substantially stronger antimicrobial effect on gram-negative bacteria than it did on gram-positive. Using a UV-visible spectrophotometer at 600nm, distinct behaviors of isolated bacteria were detected at varied optical densities; the highest activity was reported at 1 ml/50ml. Various phytochemicals were detected qualitatively, including carbohydrates, proteins, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, and tannins. Anthraquinones and glycosides were not discovered in lettuce. A quantitative investigation was conducted to detect unique phenolic compounds using High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with varied peaks. Gallic acid, syringic acid, sinapic acid, and vanillin were identified as phenolic components by HPLC. However, further study on the analysis of isolated phytochemicals is required to identify novel antibiotics and their rapid and plant-based control and the proper management of antibiotic resistance spread and its risk to human health.

For the evaluation of the phenotypic and morphometric characteristics of Kachhi sheep, a total of 300 adult Kachhi sheep (female240 and male 60) were selected from different study areas (Hyderabad, Matiary, Mirpurkahs, Sanghar, Umerkot and Thaparkar) of Sindh province. Among all the study areas majority of male and female Kachhi sheep physically possessed plain white coat with black and brown (tan) color, compact body shape, coarse type wool, convex face profile, roman nose, small pendulous ears, sloppy rump, dark colored hooves, and small cylindrical tail, compact udder. Moreover, majority of male and female sheep were noted with wattles, remarkably few cases of female and male Kachhi sheep were detected with deviated Morphometric characters. This research aims to investigate the effect of reward systems on the extrinsic and intrinsic motivation of the employees working in various manufacturing companies located in the UAE. In this era of competition, motivated employees considered as a valuable assets and motivation play vital role in productivity and enhancement of job commitment and reduce job turnover intention. While, researchers highlight the significance of reward system to intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in various context. However, this area of research is under-theorized particularly within the UAE context in the food and beverage sector. The data was gathered from 100 respondents through a self-administered survey using a 7-point Likert scale. The data was later analyzed using SPSS. A variety of statistical procedures have been carried out to figure out the reliability and validity of the research hypotheses. Based on the results generated through these statistical procedures, key conclusions and inferences have been drawn. In essence, the organization must take an effective measure that is aimed at enhancing the motivation levels of their workforce. Moreover, a motivated workforce will be more committed and dedicated to achieving the organizational goals and objectives.

Present study was conducted to get information on helminth parasites of zoonotic importance among the black rats of district Swat, Pakistan. Two hundred and sixty nine rats were captured from agricultural ecosystem of the district using live captured traps from 2011 to 2013. Captured rats were anesthetized and surveyed for the presence of ectoparasites, then were carefully dissected for investigation of endoparsites. Helminth parasites of 8 species were identified. Presence of parasite was noticed in 23.7% of sampled rats. The infection rates of sampled rats was given in order of their infectivity as Syphacia obvelata 13(4.83%), Aspiculuris tetraptera 13(4.83%), Heterakis spumosa 12 (4.46%), Hymenolepis spp. 9(3.34%), H.diminuta 8(2.97%), Hymenolepis fusa 4(1.48%), Lutziella microacetabularae 4(1.48%) and Lutziella spp. 1 (0.37%). The aim of this study to put a light on basics of organizational politics and its negative and positive effects on the employee work related attitudes, more specifically in education sector. In universities administration and faculty are busy in dirty political games rather to pay more attention towards facilitating students for their educational purposes. In universities politics is considered as a dangerous element as the ultimate victim of this politics will be students. Although some studies claimed that politics could be a positive element in organizational growth and development. But, the negative side is heavier than imagination that needs more consideration. A survey has been conducted through a well-structured questionnaire among 100 respondents as well as teaching and administrative staff from different public universities of Sindh Province. The study concluded some significant work related attitudes and outcomes of politics. The main effects of analysis have also revealed that perceptions of politics have significant its impact on employee job attitude and creativity. The recent development in Pakistani higher educational sector has compelled university management to improve educational service quality. Student dysfunctional behaviours (SDB) is one of the key factors that adversely impacted educational environment. Various researchers have investigated these behaviours in the western context. The objective of this study is to investigate SDB within the Pakistani context. This study used a qualitative approach to develop an in-depth understanding of SDB within Pakistani higher educational context. This current study identified three dimensions of SDB and concluded that understanding of these dimensions will facilitate university management in policy formulation to tackle the issue of SDB. Objective: To determine different treatment options in patients of Patent Ductus Arteriosus with pulmonary hypertension beyond neonatal period. Study Design: Descriptive cross sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: This study was carried out in Pediatric Cardiology department of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, from Jan 2017 to Jan 2019. Methodology: Patients having PDA with pulmonary hypertension were included in the study. Treatment options were divided into percutaneous catheter device closure, surgical ligation of patent ductus arteriosus and palliative treatment. Any adverse event during the procedure was documented. Stratification was done in regard to gender and age group. Post stratification chi square test was applied and p-value less than or equal to 0.05 was considered as significant. Results: Total number of patients included in the study were 37. Mean age (years) of patients (Mean ± SD) was 19.21 ± 8.76. Mean ± SD pulmonary artery pressure was 56.43 ± 11.55 mmHg. Percutaneous catheter device closure was successful in 24 (64.9%) patients, in 7 (18.9%) patients primary surgical PDA ligation was done, 3 (8.1%) patients were advised palliative treatment and in 3 (8.1%) patients adverse events occurred during percutaneous device closure and were thus referred for surgical ligation. Patent ductus Arteriosus Occlutech device was used in 18 (48.6%) patients, Occlutech VSD device was used in 7 (18.5%) patients and in 1 (2.7%) patient AGA duct occluder was used. Conclusion: In patients with patent ductus arteriosus and pulmonary artery hypertension, percutaneous catheter device closure is a safe and effective procedure.

Transfusion-related complications and lack of resources in low-to-middle-income countries have led to a search for novel therapies to reduce the need for blood transfusions in patients with β-thalassemia. Hydroxyurea (HU) has demonstrated promising outcomes; additionally, thalidomide has also shown improvement in hemoglobin (Hb) levels for patients with β-thalassemia in some studies. This study presents the findings of a single-arm nonrandomized trial to evaluate the efficacy of combination therapy of HU and thalidomide in children with β-thalassemia. A total of 135 patients (median age, 6 [interquartile range, 3-10] years), 77 (57%) males and 58 (43%) females, were followed first using HU alone, for 6 months, and then using the combination of HU and thalidomide for another 6 months. The primary outcome was a response to therapy, as measured by the number of transfusions required and Hb levels, for patients while receiving HU alone and then while using the combination therapy. Study findings showed a significant decline in blood transfusion volume (P < .001) and a significant increase in median Hb levels within 3 and 6 months of the combination therapy (P < .001). Eighty-nine (65.93%) participants were good responders, 16 (11.85%) were responders, and 30 (22.22%) were nonresponders, whereas the responders had variable genetic mutations. A total of 38 adverse events were reported that resolved on supportive treatment or temporary hold of the intervention. The combination therapy demonstrated promising results and could be considered for a diverse patient population with β-thalassemia. This study aims to explore the role of work-life balance in the life of Emirati women and how it affects job satisfaction and their job retention. Also, it will be discussed what women should do to deal with challenging job nature and maintain family life. This study provided literature to analyze the most important factors/characteristics that determine the work-life balance of women employees working and test this framework in the context of the UAE. It has been noticed that, like in Western countries, the women in UAE also face a lot of difficulties in their workplace and at home to deal with work-life balance, especially women who are working in private organizations and facing more significant issues in the UAE. This research also recommended some measures that should be taken by the government as well as by organizations in the UAE so that women can enjoy their work-life balance and easily bear responsibilities of the family, and can significantly work towards their career goal. These policies help them a lot to grow in their career and enable them to take good managerial positions in the UAE. In the end, from a broader perspective, the economic diversification of the country is also highlighted.
