Premise: Quaternary climatic fluctuations and long-distance seed dispersal across the sea are critical factors affecting the distribution of coastal plants, but the spatiotemporal nature of population expansion and distribution change of East Asian coastal plants during this period are rarely examined. To explore this process, we investigated the genome-wide phylogenetic patterns of Euphorbia jolkinii Boiss. (Euphorbiaceae), which grows widely on littoral areas of Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Methods: We used plastome sequences and genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms in samples across the species range to reveal phylogeographic patterns and spatiotemporal distributional changes. We conducted ecological niche modeling for the present and the last glacial maximum (LGM). Results: Genetic differentiation was observed between the northern and southern populations of E. jolkinii, separated by the major biogeographic boundary, the Tokara Gap. These two groups of populations differentiated during the glacial period and subsequently intermingled in the intermorainic areas of the central Ryukyu Islands after the LGM. Ecological niche models suggested that the potential range of E. jolkinii was restricted to southern Kyushu; however, it was widespread in the southern Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan during the LGM. Conclusions: This study provides evidence of genetic differentiation among coastal plant populations separated by the prominent biogeographical boundary. Although coastal plants are typically expected to maintain population connectivity through sea-drifted seed dispersal, our findings suggest that genetic differences may arise because of a combination of limited gene flow and changes in climate during the glacial period.

The human societies of the Amazon have been transformed over time by the environmental system in which they live and in a recursive way have been transforming the environmental system, a symbiosis that demonstrates memories and reflections in the present. This article aims to describe the identity search of indigenous peoples in Nova Aliança, through the foundation of their community, social relations, beliefs and topophilia manifested in the management of the environmental system. Thus, we triangulate analysis between identity, management and topophilia. From the Single Case Study, it was possible to adoption the precepts of Ethnobiology and Ethnoecology, for the emertion of primary and secondary data, through the application of participatory research techniques, which comprised a quali-quantitative approach of the data. The case chosen was the Nova Aliança community, located in the municipality of Benjamin Constant, upper Solimões River region, Amazonas, Brazil, in which residents self-identify as indigenous peoples of the Cocama ethnic group. The surveys and analyses of the data collected in the field showed that in The New Alliance, since its origin, principles such as religiosity, topophilia, kinship relations, culture, and reciprocity, guide their way of living and manage the environmental system, reflecting on how they build, transform, signand (re)signify social relations and their actions over time, in the face of the emergencies that arise., Las sociedades humanas de la Amazonía se han transformado con el tiempo por el sistema ambiental en el que viven y de una manera recursiva a su vez lo han transformado, en una simbiosis que envuelve recuerdos y reflexiones pasadas en el presente. Este artículo tiene como objetivo describir la búsqueda identitaria de los indígenas de Nova Aliança, a través de la fundación de su comunidad, las relaciones sociales, creencias y topofilia manifestadas en el manejo del sistema ambiental, triangulando para ello el análisis entre identidad, manejo y topofilia. En el estudio de caso único, fueron adoptados preceptos de Etnobiología y Etnoecología para el levantamiento de datos primarios y secundarios, a través de la aplicación de técnicas de investigación participativas que comprendían un enfoque cuali y cuantitativo de los datos. El caso elegido fue la comunidad Nova Aliança, ubicada en el municipio de Benjamin Constant, región alta del río Solimões, Amazonas, Brasil, en la que los residentes se autoidentifican como indígenas de la etnia cocama. Las encuestas y análisis de los datos recogidos en el campo mostraron que en Nova Aliança, desde su origen, la religiosidad, la topofilia, las relaciones de parentesco, la cultura y la reciprocidad, guían su forma de vivir y manejar el sistema ambiental, reflejando así cómo construyen, transforman, significan y (re)significan su relaciones sociales y acciones a lo largo del tiempo, ante las emergencias que surgen., As sociedades humanas da Amazônia foram ao longo do tempo sendo transformadas pelo sistema ambiental em que vivem e de forma recursiva foram transformando o sistema ambiental, uma simbiose que demonstra memórias passadas e reflexos no presente. Este artigo tem por objetivo descrever a busca identitária dos indígenas em Nova Aliança, via fundação de sua comunidade, relações sociais, crenças e topofilia manifestada no manejo do sistema ambiental. Assim fazemos uma triangulação de análise entre identidade, manejo e topofilia. A partir do Estudo de Caso Único foi possibilitado a adoção dos preceitos da Etnobiologia e da Etnoecologia, para emersão de dados primários e secundários, por meio da aplicação de técnicas de pesquisa participativa, os quais compuseram uma abordagem quali-quantitativa dos dados. O caso escolhido foi a comunidade Nova Aliança, localizada no município de Benjamin Constant, região do Alto Rio Solimões, Amazonas, Brasil, na qual os moradores se autoidentificam como indígenas da etnia Cocama. Os levantamentos e as análises dos dados coletados em campo evidenciaram que em Nova Aliança, desde sua origem, princípios como religiosidade, topofilia, relações de parentesco, cultura e reciprocidade, norteiam seu modo de viver e manejar o sistema ambiental, refletindo em como constroem, transformam, significam e (re)significam relações sociais e as suas ações ao longo do tempo, frente as emergências que surgem.
