The article is devoted to the practical implementation of changes in the current system of legal regulation in the fi eld of water supply and sanitation of apartment buildings. The results of the analysis of operational and design standards of water consumption are presented. The necessity of adjusting the normative and technical documents in terms of improving the methodological foundations of designing indoor cold and hot water supply systems for an apartment building and creating a legitimate methodological toolkit is shown. Recommendations have been developed to supplement the norms of the set of rules 30.13330.2016 “Internal water supply and sewerage systems of buildings. Updated edition of SNiP 2.04.01-85 *».

A study of the operation of elastic joints with preset dependences of the restoring torque on the angle of rotation in the crank mechanism is presented. The principle of operation of the proposed joints is based on the movement of the elastic element between the guides of the calculated shape. The installation of such a joint with a preset characteristic between the strut and the crank enables obtaining a constant angular velocity of the crank. With the introduction of an elastic hinge between the crank and the connecting rod, the lateral force acting on the piston in the case of a constant angular velocity of the crank decreases significantly. By adding the counterweight properly, it is possible to obtain zero lateral force on the connecting rod for the entire crank revolution.

4. EFFECT OF POLYPHENOLIC COMPLEX FROM WINE ON RATS ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES ACTIVITY AT X-RAY IRRADIATION LOW DOSES

It is shown that the consumption of natural polyphenolic complex from grape wine in drinking water in the daily dose 2.5 ± 1.1 mg polyphenols/kg body mass of rats during the 10 day before exposure to radiation leads to increased of superoxide dismutase and gluthathione reductase activities in peripheral blood on 24 and 48 hours after full body X-ray irradiation (30 cGy). The of catalase, gluthathione peroxidase activities and the of the reactive thiobarbituric acid substances content in total lysates of peripheral blood within 72 hours after exposure are comparable to those in control rats. Marked decreased of catalase and superoxide dismutase activities at 24, 48 and 24 hours, respectively, was observed after exposure to ionizing radiation and increased content of lipid peroxidation products in all above mentioned time points. The decreased of superoxide dismutase and gluthathione peroxidase activities in lysates of rats aorta at 48 hour and increased content of the reactive thiobarbituric acid substances during 72 hours after radiation exposure were observed. The consumption of polyphenolic complex from wine did not change the superoxide dismutase and catalase activities in lysates of aorta rats treated with ionizing radiation, whereas gluthathione reductase and gluthathione peroxidase activities was increased during 72 hours after radiation influence. The content of TBA reactive substances was significantly decreased in lysates of aorta rats that were exposed to radiation and polyphenols of grape wine, compared with those of animals that were exposed to radiation alone.

The article is devoted to the practical implementation of the results of the analysis of the relationship between the system of technical regulation in construction and the regulatory regulation of relations for the provision of public services. Changes in the current normative documentation in the sphere of water supply of apartment buildings are considered. It is shown that it is necessary to improve the methodological basis for designing inhouse systems of cold and hot water supply in an apartment building and to create a legitimate methodological tool. Recommendations for improving the regulations 30.13330.2016, «internal water pipeline and sewerage of buildings. Actualized edition of construction standards and regulations 2.04.01-85» are proposed. Changes in the Construction Regulations 30.13330.2016 and the results of their expertise are given.

8. Oilfree centrifugal electric compressor with foil gasdynamic bearings

- Abstract
The article gives the description of a highspeed oilfree electric compressor with foil gasdynamic bearings and a synchronous permanent magnet electric drive. During experiments, the refrigeration system has been optimized, and the total power of losses in the bearings and losses on the ventilation of the rotor has been measured. The tests were carried out in the vacuum regime at the inlet up to -0,5 bar; also the tests were performed in the generator regime. This compressor may be used as an independent electric one for air, gases, including refrigerants, and also as a compressor unit in the capacity of a part of a refrigeration or cryogenic plant. In generator mode, the compressor is applicable in waste heat recovery systems operating on the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC).

This work determines the restoring forces of the elastic elements of a system with two degrees of freedom by its predetermined movement. Two bodies of a certain mass are considered. The first body is connected by the first elastic element with a fixed base; and the second body is connected with the first body by the second elastic element. The movement occurs in a straight line in a horizontal plane. Gravity and friction forces are not taken into account. Then, the trigonometric functions of the law of motion of each body and the restoring forces of both elastic elements are analytically determined. These restoring forces are the control functions by which the desired movement is realized. Technically, such controls can be implemented in various ways, in particular, through passive elastic elements, the design and calculation method of which is proposed in the article. A variant of creating elastic elements with the restoring forces based on springs moving between two guides of the calculated form perpendicular to their axis of symmetry is given.

10. Simulation of operation of pneumatic compensator with quasi-zero stiffness in the electric centrifugal submersible pump unit

The ECSPU pneumatic compensators with quasi-zero stiffness are proposed. The pneumatic compensator with quasi-zero stiffness is suggested to be made in the form of pneumatic spring assemblies having a power characteristic with a positive stiffness working area and a set of successively connected Belleville springs and a power characteristic with a working area of negative stiffness. Structurally, a set of Belleville springs is located inside the air spring and supports pneumatic compensator piston. As a result of adding the negative stiffness of the disc spring washers set and the positive stiffness of the pneumatic spring, the resulting system (the proposed pneumatic compensator) acquires a quasi-zero or specified low stiffness. The efficiency of the suggested pneumatic compensator was determined by the possibility of moving its piston from the effects of various pressure drops. It was assumed that the greater the distance the piston can move under a given action, the more effective the pneumatic compensator is. The effect of various forces acting on the piston in the case of pressure drops on the discharge line of the electric centrifugal submersible pump units (ECSPU) is simulated: a rapidly decreasing load; a sudden increase in the force acting on the piston and vibration impact. In all the considered examples, the displacement of the piston was several meters, which corresponds to the length of the working area of the power characteristic of the considered pneumatic compensator with quasi-zero stiffness. It is shown that existing pneumatic compensators, which are like gas caps, are in principle unable to provide the same displacement of the piston under the same effects on it. For their effective operation, the size of the gas cap should be several tens of meters, which is impossible in the conditions of the well. In the calculations, it is shown that it is possible to manufacture the necessary disk spring washers from various materials: steel; fiberglass FGM; beryllium bronze. Of particular interest are disk spring washers made of beryllium bronze, which are capable of withstanding up to 20 billion load cycles.

Актуальність. Постійне підвищення вимог до строків активного існування космічних апаратів вимагає створення елек-тронних засобів, що відповідають цим вимогам. З цієї точки зору саме показники довговічності дозволяють оцінити прин-ципову можливість створення електронних засобів тривалого функціонування. На ранніх етапах проектування для оцінкипоказників довговічності застосовуються розрахункові методи. Очевидно, що чим точніше оцінка, тим більша ймовірністьтого, що при випробуваннях зразків показники довговічності будуть підтверджені. Тому вдосконалення інженерних мето-дик оцінки показників довговічності електронних засобів є актуальним завданням.Мета роботи. Підвищення якості проектних робіт за рахунок вдосконалення інженерних методик розрахунку ресурсуелектронних засобів, що дозволяють підвищити точність і достовірність його оцінки.Метод. Для розрахунку ресурсу електронних засобів застосований метод статистичного моделювання (метод Монте-Карло), що дозволяє враховувати імовірнісні характеристики ресурсу комплектуючих елементів.Результати. Розв’язана задача прогнозування ресурсу електронних засобів на основі довідкових даних про характери-стиках довговічності елементів на ранніх етапах проектування. Проведено аналіз стандартизованого методу розрахункупоказників довговічності і виявлення істотні обмеження цього методу при прогнозуванні ресурсу електронних модулів.Запропоновано альтернативний метод прогнозування ресурсу електронних модулів, заснований на статичному моделюван-ні, і створена його програмна реалізація. Проведено тестування розробленого програмного забезпечення. Проведенообчислювальні експерименти з дослідження достовірності запропонованого методу і його порівняння із стандартизованимметодом.Висновки. За результатами проведених експериментів показано, що стандартизований метод можна застосовуватитільки для розрахунку мінімального напрацювання і зроблено висновок про необхідність врахування параметра усіченнярозподілу ресурсу елементів і коефіцієнта варіації ресурсу, а також особливостей схеми розрахунку надійності при прогно-зування показників довговічності електронних засобів., Context. Constant growth of spacecraft operating life requirements leads to creating equipment which fits these requirements.From this point of view, specifically durability prediction allows to evaluate the potential of creating equipment with a long operatinglife. On early stages of equipment’s development analytical methods of durability prediction are used. Obviously, the more precisethe estimation is, the more likely that the practical test will confirm the durability predictions. Therefore, improving the engineeringtechniques of the durability prediction is a relevant problem.Objective. The objective of this research is to improve the quality of design work by enhancing the engineering techniques of thedurability prediction, which raise the authenticity of the evaluations.Method. Life of the equipment are calculated using the statistical modelling method (Monte-Carlo method). This method takesinto consideration probabilistic characteristics of constituent elements’ life.Results. As a result, the problem of predicting operating life of electronic equipment using the reference data on early stages ofdevelopment is solved. An analysis of standardized method of durability prediction was performed which revealed existing limitationsfor using this method when predicting operating life of electronic equipment. An alternate, statistical method of predicting operatinglife of electronic equipment was suggested and a software implementation was created. Developed software was tested andverified. Analytical experiments were performed to show the authenticity of the suggested method and to compare it to the standardizedone.Conclusions. Thus, results of the performed research show that the standardized method is applicable only for calculating theminimum operating time. Also, it was concluded that the truncation parameter of element’s life distribution, variation coefficient oflife and some specific qualities of dependability prediction scheme have to be taken into consideration when predicting durability ofelectronic equipment., Актуальность. Постоянное повышение требований к срокам активного существования космических аппаратов требуетсоздания электронных средств, отвечающих этим требованиям. С этой точки зрения именно показатели долговечности по-зволяют оценить принципиальную возможность создания электронных средств длительного функционирования. На раннихэтапах проектирования для оценки показателей долговечности применяются расчетные методы. Очевидно, что чем точнееоценка, тем больше вероятность того, что при испытаниях образцов показатели долговечности будут подтверждены. По-этому совершенствование инженерных методик оценки показателей долговечности электронных средств является актуаль-ной задачей.Цель. Повышение качества проектных работ за счет совершенствование инженерных методик расчета ресурса элек-тронных средств, позволяющих повысить точность и достоверность его оценки.Метод. Для расчета ресурса электронных средств применен метод статистического моделирования (метод Монте-Карло), позволяющий учитывать вероятностные характеристики ресурса комплектующих элементов.Результаты. Решена задача прогнозирования ресурса электронных средств на основе справочных данных о характери-стиках долговечности элементов на ранних этапах проектирования. Проведен анализ стандартизованного метода расчетапоказателей долговечности и выявленные существенные ограничения этого метода при прогнозировании ресурса электрон-ных модулей. Предложен альтернативный метод прогнозирования ресурса электронных модулей, основанный на статиче-ском моделировании и создана его программная реализация. Проведено тестирование разработанного программного обес-печения. Проведены вычислительные эксперименты по исследованию достоверности предложенного метода и его сравне-ние со стандартизованным методом.Выводы. По результатам проведенных экспериментов показано, что стандартизованный метод применим только длярасчета минимальной наработки и сделан вывод о необходимости учета параметра усечения распределения ресурса элемен-тов и коэффициента вариации ресурса, а также особенностей схемы расчета надежности при прогнозирования показателейдолговечности электронных средств.

The issues related to the problem of reducing unproductive water losses in the systems of cold and hot water supply of apartment buildings are considered in the article. The insufficient efficiency of application of known water saving devices, reducing overhead costs, the cause of which is the contradiction between the requirements of rationality and ensuring the maximum demand for a public water supply service, is shown. The recommendations for improving the design of the piston apartment pressure regulator “after itself”, ensuring a reduction in nonproductive costs are developed. The results of an experimental study of a pressure regulator with an improved water saving characteristic are presented.

- Abstract
The research considers ongoing changes in the current system of legal regulation in the field of water supply and wastewater disposal of multi-apartment buildings (MABs). The authors present results of operational and design standards of water consumption analysis. It is shown that the existing regulatory and technical documents need adjustment in terms of determining the maximum possible consumption of cold and hot water for MABs residential units. The paper also puts forward an algorithm of hydraulic calculation of MABs domestic water supply systems according to the methodology developed in the Academy of Construction and Architecture in Samara State Technical University (ACA SamSTU).

This paper presents results of an all-sky search for periodic gravitational waves in the frequency range [50, 1 190] Hzand and with frequency derivative range of approx. [-20,1.1] x 10(exp-10) H(sub 0)z s(exp-1) for the fifth LIGO science run (S5). The search uses a noncoherent Hough-transform method to combine the information from coherent searches on time scales of about one day. Because these searches are very computationally intensive, they have been carried out with the Einstein@Home volunteer distributed computing project. Postprocessing identifies eight candidate signals; deeper follow-up studies rule them out. Hence, since no gravitational wave signals have been found, we report upper limits on the intrinsic gravitational wave strain amplitude ho. For example, in the 0.5 Hz-wide band at 152.5 Hz, we can exclude the presence of signals with h(exp 0) greater than 7.6 x 10(exp-25) at a 90% confidence level. This search is about a factor 3 more sensitive than the previous Einstein@Home search of early S5 LIGO data.

This work is devoted to creating a technique for calculating power characteristics of the screws with constant and variable step for the centrifugal pumps. The technique feature is that the reverse currents, which are observed in screws working at low flow, are numerically taken into account. The paper presents a diagram of the stream in the screw with flow to the network Q=0, and the static pressure of the screw in this mode is computed according to reverse current parameters. Maximum flow of screw is determined from the known formulas. When calculating the power characteristics and computing the overall efficiency of the screw, for the first time a volumetric efficiency of the screw is introduced. It is defined as a ratio between the flow into the network and the sum of the reverse current flows and a flow into the network. This approach allowed us to determine the efficiency of the screw over the entire range of flows.A comparison of experimental characteristics of the constant step screw with those of calculated by the proposed technique shows their good agreement.The technique is also used in calculating characteristics of the variable step screws. The variable step screw is considered as a screw consisting of two screws with a smooth transition of the blades from the inlet to the outlet. Screws in which the step at the inlet is less than that of at the outlet as well as screws with the step at the inlet being more than that of at the outlet were investigated. It is shown that a pressure of the screw with zero step and the value of the reverse currents depend only on the parameters of the input section of the screw, and the maximum flow, if the step at the inlet is more than the step at the outlet, is determined by the parameters of the output part of the screw. Otherwise, the maximum flow is determined a little bit differently.The paper compares experimental characteristics with characteristics calculated by the technique for variable step screws, thereby demonstrating good compliance.Results of the research allowed us to draw the following conclusions.1. Taking into account the reverse currents enabled us to refine the calculation of power characteristics of the constant and variable step screws over the entire range of flows.2. A program developed on the basis of the proposed technique enables us to calculate screw characteristics from their geometrical parameters and frequency of rotation. This is very convenient when performing the design calculations of the flow part of the screwcentrifugal pump.3. If the screw-set pump is intended for use in the continuous flow mode, it is advisable to set either constant step screws S1=S2 or variable step screw S14. If the pump is supposed to be used in a wide range of flows, it is advisable to install the screw with variable step S1>S2.

A comprehensive study of the atomic structure, electronic structure and thermal stability of sputter-deposited amorphous AlxZr1 − x (x = 0.26, 0.35, 0.51, 0.75) has been carried out using a combined experimental approach including X-ray diffraction (XRD) radial distribution function analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), as well as in-situ high-temperature XRD investigations. It was found that am-AlxZr1 − x exhibits distinct short-range order, which changes with composition. The high nearest-neighbor coordination numbers (NNCNs) (≥ 13) for the Al-rich am-AlxZr1 − x are consistent with the presence of distorted Frank–Kasper coordination polyhedra. Similarly, the NNCNs of the Zr-rich am-AlxZr1 − x (~ 12) suggest the presence of mostly icosahedral clusters. XPS and AES analyses indicated that in am-AlxZr1 − x the Al atoms got electron charge of about 0.15e–0.19e from the Zr atoms. Hybridization of the outer-shell valence electrons of Al (3s, 3p) and Zr (4d) is established in am-AlxZr1 − x. The am-AlxZr1 − x with 49 at.% Zr possesses maximum thermal stability. The correlation of the observed thermal stability of am-AlxZr1 − x alloys and their structure has been discussed.

Good convergence of the computed pressure characteristics of the screws with the experimental values is demonstrated. A graph of the dependence of the basic parameters of a screw, such as the maximum head, capacity, and efficiency, on the ratio between the blade spacing at the inlet and at the outlet, is presented.

The authors proposed model of closed loop control together with programmable environment enabling the possibility to create intelligent, self-learning network based on existing mobile operator networks. Reluctance to research traffic processes in real time mode and distribute a request flows according to the types, quantity or concentration of subscribers in one or another network segment, etc. formulate main problem in modern cellular networks and systems. The authors propose to settle the issues of detection of anomalous effects such as sudden congestions in cellular network segments and prevention of the block or denial of service with the help of the own network function of positioning of mobile subscribers. Second proposed step is to analyze and combine all the arrays of positioned subscribers in some conglomerates or clusters with selection of clear centers (nodes of demand). The third step is to solve typical transportation problem among existing base stations of mobile operator and found (calculated) nodes of demand. Further, the operator will only compile a model set for different seasons, days of the week, weekends, public holidays and other non-conventional situations causing block or denial of service and add them to the variety of models in system memory units. After that, QoS/CoS parameters should be defined and end wireless resource should be distributed among consumers. This model demonstrates locations of base stations in case of rebuild of existing telecommunication networks considering dynamic and static nodes of demand that automatically results in service upgrade. The cellular network will transform into intelligent network without blocks and denials of service.

The development of stresses, phase fractions and the microstructure of thin equiatomic NiTi substrate-bound films was investigated during the reverse transformation from martensite to austenite. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD) experiments were performed during the heating portion of thermal cycling applied to the thin films to capture, in particular, the reverse martensitic phase transformation (monoclinic martensite → cubic austenite). The phase fractions and microstructure, as a function of temperature and thermal cycling, were analyzed through the application of Rietveld refinement to the diffraction data. Further, using the XRD data, the overall macroscopic stress in the film (derived from the curvature of the film/substrate system determined by XRD rocking curve measurements) and the stress in the austenite phase (derived from the lattice strain) during the transformation were tracked as a function of the degree of the transformation. The state of the stress in the austenite was found to remain biaxially, rotationally symmetric, even in the two-phase (martensite and austenite) film. The developments of the total stress in the film and the stresses in each of the two phases are discussed in terms of the transformation-induced volume misfit and its accommodation by elastic deformation.

Dense La0.6Sr0.4Fe0.8Co0.2O3−δ (LSFC) membranes were successfully prepared on NiCoCrAlY metal supports by low pressure plasma spraying-physical vapour deposition. He leakage rate tests and microstructural analysis by SEM of the as-deposited films showed that a gas-tight membrane layer is achieved. Membrane thicknesses are between 40 and 65 µm. The oxygen permeation flux was determined at atmospheric pressure in an air-Ar gradient at different temperatures between 700 and 950 °C and compared with 1 mm thick LSFC pellet. Although leakage was detected, noteworthy oxygen permeation rate of the supported membranes (∼0.3 ml cm−2 min−1 at 885 °C) is reported.

Perovskite-type materials with the general chemical formula A1−x A′ x B1−y B′ y O3−δ have received considerable attention as candidates for oxygen separation membranes. Preparation of La1−x Sr x Fe1−y Co y O3−δ (LSFC) coatings by low-pressure plasma spraying-thin film processes using different plasma spray parameters is reported and discussed. Deposition with Ar-He plasma leads to formation of coatings containing a mixture of cubic LSFC perovskite, SrLaFeO4, FeCo, and metal oxides. Coatings deposited at higher oxygen partial pressures by pumping oxygen into the vacuum chamber contain more than 85% perovskite and only a few percent Fe3−x Co x O4, and/or CoO. The microstructures of the investigated LSFC coatings depend sensitively on the oxygen partial pressure, the substrate temperature, the plasma jet velocities, and the deposition rate. Coatings deposited with Ar-rich plasma, relatively low net torch power, and with higher plasma jet velocities are most promising for applications as oxygen permeation membranes.

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) is a network of three detectors built to detect local perturbations in the space–time metric from astrophysical sources. These detectors, two in Hanford, WA and one in Livingston, LA, are power-recycled Fabry-Perot Michelson interferometers. In their fifth science run (S5), between November 2005 and October 2007, these detectors accumulated one year of triple coincident data while operating at their designed sensitivity. In this paper, we describe the calibration of the instruments in the S5 data set, including measurement techniques and uncertainty estimation., United States. Performance of a variable-pitch worm (endless screw), like that of a positive-displacement pump operating with leaks (reverse flows), is analyzed. An examination has been made of the head characteristics of two modified versions of sectional variable-pitch worms: where one worm with a smaller and the other with a larger pitch of the blade thread are installed at the inlet than at the outlet. It is shown that in the second case the head of the variable-pitch worm is much higher.

We present the results of a LIGO search for short-duration gravitational waves (GWs) associated with the 2006 March 29 SGR 1900+14 storm. A new search method is used, "stacking'' the GW data around the times of individual soft-gamma bursts in the storm to enhance sensitivity for models in which multiple bursts are accompanied by GW emission. We assume that variation in the time difference between burst electromagnetic emission and potential burst GW emission is small relative to the GW signal duration, and we time-align GW excess power time-frequency tilings containing individual burst triggers to their corresponding electromagnetic emissions. We use two GW emission models in our search: a fluence-weighted model and a flat (unweighted) model for the most electromagnetically energetic bursts. We find no evidence of GWs associated with either model. Model-dependent GW strain, isotropic GW emission energy E_GW, and \gamma = E_GW / E_EM upper limits are estimated using a variety of assumed waveforms. The stacking method allows us to set the most stringent model-dependent limits on transient GW strain published to date. We find E_GW upper limit estimates (at a nominal distance of 10 kpc) of between 2x10^45 erg and 6x10^50 erg depending on waveform type. These limits are an order of magnitude lower than upper limits published previously for this storm and overlap with the range of electromagnetic energies emitted in SGR giant flares., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Liquid flow in a worm, known as axial-vortex stage (AVS), is regarded, when the worm is fitted in a smooth bushing and in a vane cascade (vane lattice), like in a positive displacement pump operating with a leak, as a reverse flow. In such a case, the worm and AVS head equals the hydraulic loss in the reverse flow, and the calculation procedure in this case is much simpler. It is shown that calculation using geometric parameters of the worm and AVS yields values that agree well with experimental values.

A spiral device is considered as the input to a centrifugal pump: an axial vortex pump (AVP), with the spiral placed in a tube with a large radial gap. Test results are presented in relative coordinates: the input coefficient φ and the pressure coefficient ψ. Experimental characteristics have been obtained for a spiral in a tube with a minimal gap and for a calculation on a formula for an AVP. There is good agreement over the results for the head for φ = 0.

Solutions of aluminum alkoxides obtained by interaction of aluminum metal with methyl, ethyl, and isopropyl alcohols were studied by 27Al and 13C NMR and small-angle X-ray scattering. Alkoxides with a tetrahedral environment of aluminum prevail in methanol solutions, and those with an octahedral environment of aluminum predominate in ethanol solutions. In isopropyl alcohol at 293 K, polynuclear alkoxides with tetrahedral, octahedral, and pentacoordinated aluminum environments coexist. The structure of polynuclear complexes was refined by comparison of their calculated dimensions with small-angle X-ray scattering data.

The fourth science run of the LIGO and GEO 600 gravitational-wave detectors, carried out in early 2005, collected data with significantly lower noise than previous science runs. We report on a search for short-duration gravitational-wave bursts with arbitrary waveform in the 64-1600 Hz frequency range appearing in all three LIGO interferometers. Signal consistency tests, data quality cuts, and auxiliary-channel vetoes are applied to reduce the rate of spurious triggers. No gravitational-wave signals are detected in 15.5 days of live observation time; we set a frequentist upper limit of 0.15 per day (at 90% confidence level) on the rate of bursts with large enough amplitudes to be detected reliably. The amplitude sensitivity of the search, characterized using Monte Carlo simulations, is several times better than that of previous searches. An axial vortex pump stage has been developed. Its application has remarkably improved cavitation characteristics of condensate pumps and helped raise the cavitation factor to as high as 4500–5000. This has also helped increase the rotation speed of the pump shaft and reduce the mass and dimension characteristics of the stage.

The IR absorption spectrum of polycrystalline 4-amyloxy-4′-cyanobiphenyl (5OCB) is measured in a KBr pellet over the range 400–4000 cm−1. The structure of the molecule and the frequencies and intensities of the bands in the spectrum are calculated in the approximation of the B3LYP hybrid density functional with the 6-31G(d) and 6-31+G(d) basis sets. With the method of linear scaling of frequencies, 39 bands of the experimental IR spectrum are assigned. On the basis of calculations for related compounds, the vibrations belonging to the substituents and the biphenyl fragment are ascertained. It is shown that the IR absorption spectra of polycrystalline 4-hydroxypropyl-4′-cyanobiphenyl and 5OCB are almost identical and differ by the occurrence of three bands associated with vibrations localized on the oxyamyl radical.

The IR band structure and intensities, as well as normal vibration frequencies, are calculated by the density functional method using the Becke exchange functional and the Lee-Yang-Parr (B3LYP) correlation functional with the 6-311+G(d, p) basis set for pyridine and water molecules and for 1:1 and 1:2 hydrogen-bonded complexes (pyridine...H2O and pyridine...D2O). The structures of the hydrogen-bonded complexes are established. The characteristicity of the fundamental vibration frequencies and absolute IR intensities of pyridine in its hydrogen-bonded complexes is analyzed. The solvent effect is investigated within the framework of the self-consistent reactive field (SCRF) model. The thermodynamic characteristics of complexation are calculated using the modified G1, G2, and G2(MP2) models and the B3LYP/6-311+G(d, p) theoretical method including the basis set superposition error (BSSE).
