Abstract

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the possibility of using photogrammetry as a method for documenting and digitizing data reconstructed from a display hologram. We discuss the importance of the task of digitizing information from holograms and the search for its solution, which will allow display holography to gain new distribution. Textured point clouds were obtained for the object and for its image reconstructed from the display reflective type hologram using monochromatic radiation. The requirements for the experimental setup for the digitization of the reconstructed from hologram object wavefront, as well as for the number of photographs for the hologram capturing are formulated and explained. The calculated three-dimensional models of the object and the reconstructed object wavefront were compared according to the Pearson correlation criterion. The achieved correlation value is 0.903. The results of comparison of two 3D models in the estimation of the standard deviation are given.

Abstract

The process of forest cover regeneration after the cessation of human impact was considered. The study area was situated in the southern part of the Kenozersky National Park, Arkhangelsk Oblast. This area has 500 years of agricultural land use history. The territory features a complete spectrum of land at some point used for agricultural production: from sites currently in active use to fully recovered tree stands aged 120–140 years. The reforestation process was considered separately for each of the following land uses: slash-and-burn, multipurpose small-patch, and arable-grassland types, which differ considerably in impact intensity, duration, and degree of disturbance of the forest environment. The course of forest regeneration successions was found to depend on the type of preceding land use. The time required for the forest communities in slash-and-burn sites to recover to their original state is 120–140 years, and the succession involves the deciduous stage. Multipurpose small-patch use left the forest environment more profoundly modified. Eventually, a majority of these sites are now occupied by more productive, although undistinguishable from the original, coniferous-deciduous stands. Some factors have been detected that may lead to the formation in such sites of low-productivity self-regenerating plant communities dominated by deciduous species, which can persist there for an indefinitely long time unless relevant actions are taken. Arable-grassland land use considerably inhibits the regeneration of the forest cover typical of middle taiga, because there forms a thick sod layer. It was only in some grassland patches, where the impact stopped 5–10 years ago, that coniferous species, namely pine, were successfully regenerating.

Abstract

The results of long-term research on forests in natural biogeographical corridors (territories with forests, mires, inland lakes and other land categories) connecting the largest bodies of water in Northern Europe (Baltic Sea-Gulf of Finland and lakes Ladoga and Onego to the White Sea) are reported. These corridors link isolated pieces of the Eurasian taiga biome at the boundary between two of Europe’s physiographic divisions – Fennoscandian Shield and Russian Plain. They facilitate the dispersal and migration of plant and animal species. The straight-line terrestrial stretch between the Gulf of Finland and the White Sea is around 320 km, and it falls into three sections in the southern, middle and northern taiga subzones, respectively. The corridors were characterized and assessed as follows: 1) physiographic (landscape) features; 2) key natural characteristics (typological structure, quantitative ratios, spatial arrangement, productivity, etc.), present-day condition of forests, including data from forest management inventories of the past decade; 3) overall assessment of the forest cover transformation by human impact; 4) current system of protected areas and protective forests, and its capacity to fulfill the functions of the corridors (sufficiency).

4. COMPARISON OF HOLOGRAPHIC AND ITERATIVE METHODS FOR AMPLITUDE OBJECT RECONSTRUCTION

Abstract

Experimental comparison of four methods for the wavefront reconstruction is presented. We considered two iterative and two holographic methods with different mathematical models and algorithms for recovery. The first two of these methods do not use a reference wave recording scheme that reduces requirements for stability of the installation. A major role in phase information reconstruction by such methods is played by a set of spatial intensity distributions, which are recorded as the recording matrix is being moved along the optical axis. The obtained data are used consistently for wavefront reconstruction using an iterative procedure. In the course of this procedure numerical distribution of the wavefront between the planes is performed. Thus, phase information of the wavefront is stored in every plane and calculated amplitude distributions are replaced for the measured ones in these planes. In the first of the compared methods, a two-dimensional Fresnel transform and iterative calculation in the object plane are used as a mathematical model. In the second approach, an angular spectrum method is used for numerical wavefront propagation, and the iterative calculation is carried out only between closely located planes of data registration. Two digital holography methods, based on the usage of the reference wave in the recording scheme and differing from each other by numerical reconstruction algorithm of digital holograms, are compared with the first two methods. The comparison proved that the iterative method based on 2D Fresnel transform gives results comparable with the result of common holographic method with the Fourier-filtering. It is shown that holographic method for reconstructing of the object complex amplitude in the process of the object amplitude reduction is the best among considered ones.

Abstract

Russia's accession to the Council of Europe and the signing of relevant international agreements contributed to the development of regulations on the rights of a child and branching juvenile law in the Russian legal system. Meanwhile, it should be pointed out that processes of legal regulation in the field of the formation of the legislative basis of juvenile law are in some way incomplete, which is the result of the imperfection of the existing legal acts affecting the rights and interests of minors. The issue of the expediency of creating juvenile justice in Russia is being discussed for a long time in the legal papers and at the legislative level. The provision on the formation of juvenile justice was included in the 1991 Concept of Judicial Reform in the Russian Federation. Later, different authors worked out several draft Laws on Juvenile Justice. At parliamentary hearings in the State Duma, the prospects of creating juvenile courts in the system of courts of general jurisdiction were considered. Meanwhile, such close attention to the indicated problem does not have a significant impact on the increasing child and adolescent crime in the country. The plurality of the above-mentioned legal problems and their multifaceted nature necessitate improvement of justice in relation to minors. This raises a number of theoretical, legal, practical and ethical issues that require studying and adopting relevant decisions at the legislative level. Therefore, studies that allow analyzing the current Russian criminal procedure legislation from the point of view of the possibility of functioning of juvenile justice on its basis relying on international legal standards are really urgent. The criminal procedure legislation in the Russian Federation as a whole is focused on continuous improvement in the context of ensuring the maximum number of procedural guarantees of the legality of criminal proceedings, as well as observance of human rights with the application of their minimum restrictions, including in relation to such category of persons involved in criminal proceedings as minors. In this article, the authors consider the institution of juvenile justice as an additional guarantee of securing the rights of minors in criminal proceedings in Russia, propose the ways to address current and debatable aspects of this problem. The paper analyzes the current criminal procedural legislation, decisions of the Plenums of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation as well as the judgements of the courts in specific cases concerning the problems of the study. In the study of individual topics of the issue, scientific literature as well as statistical data have been used. The conclusions and proposals made in the work are aimed at improving the current legislation of the Russian Federation and law enforcement practice, and can also be used in the educational process.

Abstract

The article provides information on the relevance of grain cleaning in modern agricultural production. A model of a new pneumatic centrifugal grain separator is proposed. Experiments have been carried out to determine the quantitative and qualitative indicators of the separator’s operation. The dependences of the completeness of separation and grain losses on the supply and the resulting air velocity have been obtained. The analysis of the obtained dependencies is carried out and recommendations are given on the use of the separator and its rational modes for preliminary, primary and secondary cleaning of grain.

Abstract

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignant disease. The use of neoadjuvant drug therapy increases the likelihood of achieving a complete pathomorphological response (pCR), leads to an increase in resectability and ablation; helps to determine the sensitivity of tumor cells to chemopreventive agents, thereby improving the patient’s prognosis. Since pathomorphological assessment occurs aſter surgery, it is necessary to develop methods for non-invasive response assessment for timely correction of the volume of treatment. One such method is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Assessment of the obtained images using texture analysis allows to increase the accuracy of the method both in the control of neoadjuvant treatment and in the assessment of the response to neoadjuvant therapy during preoperative planning.This article provides an analysis of the literature data on the potential to improve the prognostic value of breast MRI in assessing the complete pathomorphological response to neoadjuvant drug treatment of breast cancer using texture analysis of data.

Abstract

From its inception holography has proven an extremely productive and attractive area of research. While specific technical applications give rise to 'hot topics', and three-dimensional (3D) visualisation comes in and out of fashion, the core principals involved continue to lead to exciting innovations in a wide range of areas. We humbly submit that it is impossible, in any journal document of this type, to fully reflect current and potential activity; however, our valiant contributors have produced a series of documents that go no small way to neatly capture progress across a wide range of core activities. As editors we have attempted to spread our net wide in order to illustrate the breadth of international activity. In relation to this we believe we have been at least partially successful. This Roadmap is organized under three headings: Materials, Applications and Concepts . We hope this structure is not misleading as in some cases the contributions do not fit neatly under any single heading and in several cases, there is significant overlap between articles listed in all the three sections. Significantly, some articles discuss work in areas not traditionally addressed side by side with others. We sincerely hope our approach will lead to an increase in awareness and a cross-fertilization in this wonderful field. Materials development and characterisation have always been of critically importance for the development of holography. The Roadmap begins with Wang et al (section 1) who briefly discuss novel materials for use in dynamic holographic displays. Tomita (section 2) then describes the development of nanocomposite photopolymers. Neipp and Frances (section 3) discuss the recording of holographic waveguides, while Gallego and Pascual (section 4) discuss shrinkage effects arising in photopolymers. Marovina et al (section 5) describe recent photorefractive materials and devices. Bruder et al (section 6) then discuss industrial-scale material production and volume holographic optical elements (vHOEs) fabrication. Under the heading of Applications, Kostuk (section 7) leads with the use of non-imaging HOES for solar energy conversion. Odinokov (section 8) discussed holographic data storage (HDS) and security issues. Matoba et al (section 9) reviews some advances in Multimodal 3D data acquisition using digital holography (DH). Wachulak (section 10) describes the performance of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and soft x-ray (SXR) holography and tomography employing compact short wavelength sources. Gorelaya et al (section 11) then discuss holographic wavefront sensors (WFS) and next Chmelik (section 12), describes advance in incoherent holographic microscopy (HM). Ferrara and Coppola (section 13) describe the applications of digital polarized holography in the sciences. Márquez and Beléndez (section 14) discuss the use of liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) microdisplays for use in HDS systems. Yang and Yuste (section 15) discuss the two-photon holographic imaging and manipulation of neural activity in vivo. Finally, in this section, Bianco and Zanutta (section 16) describe the use of holography in astronomical spectrographs. Under the heading Concepts, we begin with the description by Falldorf (section 17) of DH employing the spatial coherence function. Healy et al (section 18) describe the performance of autofocus in holographic imaging. Zhurminsky et al (section 19) discuss interference lithography for the fabrication of nanostructures. Situ and Wang (section 20) examine the applications of deep learning (DL) in DH. Abdurashitov and Tuchin (section 21) examine digital focusing in laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI). Petrov (section 22) introduces ultrafast digital techniques and spatio-temporal metrology and Nomura (section 23) describes the evolution from the concepts of conventional DH to wide-sense DH. To conclude Morim and Saravanamuttu (section 24) describe the fabrication of functional 3D waveguide microstructures with nonlinear waves of light.

Abstract

Comparative analysis of a widely used Landau–Teller formula for small deviations from thermal equilibrium and its generalized form, derived from the kinetic theory of gaseous, for an arbitrary deviation from the thermal equilibrium is performed by numerical simulation. Thermally non-equilibrium flows of carbon dioxide near a sharp-edged plate, pure nitrogen flows between two symmetrically located wedges, and the N2/N mixture flow with vibrational relaxation and dissociation over a cone have been considered. A comparison has been performed with the available experimental data.

Abstract

Some bacterial infections may become persistent and lead to chronic conditions when treatment was stopped prior to desired efficacy being achieved or when the treatment regimen was not optimized from the start. In such cases, the patient becomes a carrier of a population of resistant microorganisms, which are very hard to fight against. This prompts the scientific community to search for novel, more effective medicines. Untimely, the development of antibiotic resistance to new drugs spurs a vicious cycle. New approaches are needed to develop medications with greater efficacy, with their mechanism(s) of action directed not at the pathogen per se, but rather at the protective functions of the host organism. The purpose of this review is to summarize the literature on the role of the host immune system in elimination of bacterial pathogens. The paper discusses the main targets of antibacterial therapy, describes the structure and function of proteins of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), and provides examples of studies using candidate molecules with mechanisms of action aimed at enhancing the host immune response. The article discusses mechanisms of bacterial influence on the expression of MHC class I and class II molecules and antigen presentation, as well as options to consider when targeting these molecules as an alternative approach in the treatment of bacterial infections. The authors suggest that MHC molecules are unique targets in the treatment of bacterial infections through the activation of the innate and the adaptive immune response of the host. This approach can serve as a platform for development of a new class of drugs that can be used in addition to the conventional antibacterial therapy.

Abstract

We report on a model of diode-pumped Thulium lasers passively Q-switched by a graphene saturable absorber applicable also for any other "fast" saturable absorber. It reasonably predicts the dependence of the pulse duration, pulse energy and pulse repetition frequency on the absorbed power. The model is applied in the present work for a Tm: KLuW microchip laser passively Q-switched with a multi-layer graphene saturable absorber. The laser generates similar to 1 W at 1926 nm with a slope efficiency of 39%. Stable 190 ns /4.1 mu J pulses are achieved at a pulse repetition frequency of 260 kHz. The potential of graphene for the generation of few-ns pulses at similar to 2 mu m is discussed.

18. Mathematical modeling of underwater explosion near free surface

Abstract

The results of a numerical simulation of processes that accompany the local energy release in a liquid near the free surface (underwater explosion) are presented. Using the proposed mathematical model, it is possible to describe the propagation of compression and rarefaction waves in the liquid, their interaction with the free surface, and spreading in gas. The structure of flow initiated by the underwater explosion near the free surface is analyzed. The results of a numerical simulation are compared to the available experimental data and published results of calculations. It is shown that the proposed algorithm adequately describes the process under consideration.

Using emulsion detector the collective flow signals in inelastic interactions of 84Kr nuclei with Ag(Br) at 950 MeV/nucleon are studied. A transverse momentum analysis is performed to determine the reaction plane. The bounce-off of spectator fragments is observed. In azimuthal distributions relative to the reaction plane squeeze-out and side-splash of participants are seen.

Abstract

We analyse the multifractal structure of moments Gq in terms of a new variable X on data of 197Au, 32S and 16O induced interactions with emulsion nuclei and Monte Carlo generated samples. The dynamical properties of the produced particles are mapped onto multifractal spectra. We compare ln G in experimental data of 197Au, 32S and 16O with pure statistical fluctuations. It is shown that the stochasticity plays an important role for the G-moments.

Abstract

Pregnant women occupy a special place in the incidence structure of the new coronavirus infection COVID -19. Taking into account the likelihood of a more severe course of acute respiratory syndrome (ARDS) in this group, it is worth remembering the possibility of timely use of veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (IV ECMO) in order to correct life-threatening hypoxia. At the Lapino Clinical Hospital, a cesarean section was successfully performed in a 37-year-old female patient at 20–21 weeks of gestation against the background of IV ECMO with further decannulation and discharge from the hospital.

Abstract

Recent results from the EMU-01/12 collaboration are presented for 10.7 GeV/nucleon gold nuclei interactions in emulsion. The distributions of "bound" charge ( Zbound ,Z b3), multiplicity distributions, fragment correlations and fluctua- tions are discussed. The data are compared to similar results obtained on the ALADIN setup at 600 MeV/nucleon. It is shown that multifragmentation of gold nuclei at high and in- termediate energies has common features. It is also obtained that the IMFs have reduced multiplicity at high energies. The data are analyzed within the scope of the statistical model of multifragmentation. This model requires the fol- lowing predetermined model ingredients: mass, charge and excitation energy of nuclear residuals. The simple estimation method of these characteristics is proposed in the framework of the Glauber approach. It is shown that the multifragmentation model reproduces qualitatively the present data. A dramatic discrepancy between the predicted and experimental yield of two charged fragments is found. The evolution of transverse momentum of fragments as a function of Zbound is presented. It is shown that the model greatly underpredicts the transverse momentum of fragments. It is interpreted as evidence of a strong radial flow of spectator fragments.

Abstract

The mechanism for producing slow, target associated particles in high energy heavy ion collisions is investigated. It is shown that the same mechanism which was proposed for hadron induced interactions is likely to appear also for heavy-ion reactions. The results indicate however a much weaker correlation between impact parameter and yield of slow particles.

Abstract

The fragmentation topology of28Si at 3.7A GeV and 14.6A GeV and32S at 200A GeV in reactions with emulsion nuclei is presented. The fragmentation cross sections are very similar at all three energies. A statistical percolation model can qualitatively describe the data forZ≥ 6. The He production is underestimated and the 3 ≤Z ≤ 5 fragments overestimated by this model.

Abstract

In this talk we will present some of the recent results from the experiments E863 and EMU12 using the BNL AGS Au-beam at 11.6 A GeV/c and the CERN SPS Pb-beam at 158 A GeV, respectively. Aspects on the particle production and on the target break-up will be discussed. The results are compared with model expectations. The lead data is here shown for the first time.

Abstract

Charged particle pseudorapidity density distributions in Au induced reactions in nuclear emulsion at 10.7 A GeV have been measured. In peripheral events the shower particle distribution exhibits a two peak structure while in central collisions it has a Gaussian shape. The spectator protons appear in the second peak in the pseudorapidity spectra and exhibits a broader momentum distribution than expected from Fermi motion. The produced particle yield in central collisions is not substantially different from phenomenological descriptions based on data from O and S induced reactions.

Abstract

The sessile drop method has been used to determine the limiting wetting angles for titanium-tantalum carbonitride by metals of the iron subgroup in nitrogen and vacuum. The wetting angle is reduced when one passes from iron to cobalt and nickel, which corresponds to the characteristic variation in θ in the wetting by the iron subgroup metals of pure refractory-metal carbides. X-ray microspectralanalysis indicates the contact interactions in these systems. The limiting wetting angle for titanium-tantalum carbonitride is reduced by comparison with pure titanium carbide on account of tantalum diffusing into the metal in contact with it, as a result of donor-acceptor interaction activation. It is suggested that the Ti0.75 Ta0.25 C0.5 N0.5 — MeVIII sections are quasibinary eutectic ones.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the immunoregulatory activity of an experimental drug based on ultra-high dilutions of antibodies to MHC I and MHC II molecules against Salmonella enteritidis rif92.Materials and methods. The drug tested: a sample of ultra-high water-alcohol dilutions of antibodies to MHC I and MHC II molecules applied to lactose powder (the theoretical level of the initial antibody concentration reduction is at least 1024 times). A model of non-lethal Salmonella infection in chickens was induced by administering a virulent strain of Salmonella enteritidis rif92 with a concentration of 2.5 × 109 CFU/g in the volume of 0.5 ml/bird. The following groups were formed (n = 15 in each group): 1 – drug; 2 – drug + antibiotic at the median effective dose (ED 50); 3 – placebo; 4 – placebo + antibiotic at ED50; 5 – intact control. The duration of the experiment was 12 days. The studied parameters included the survival rate during the observation period; daily body weight; feed consumption for the entire period; pathogen concentration in the litter on day 3, 6, and 9; the presence and concentration of the pathogen in the liver and cecum on day 12; and the index of antimicrobial activity on day 12.Results. In the groups receiving the experimental drug, the infectious process proceeded in a milder form and the bacterial load in chickens was lower. The bacterial count in the litter was reduced by two orders compared to the respective control when the drug was added both alone and in combination with the antibiotic. A protective effect of the experimental drug on the liver of the infected chickens was detected.Conclusion. A pronounced immunoregulatory activity of the studied drug against Salmonella enteritidis rif92 in chickens was demonstrated for the first time. The results obtained allow to consider the drug as a promising agentfor the treatment of Salmonella infection.

Abstract

Surgical treatment of stenosis of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) is a special problem, a number of questions of surgical strategy for this lesion still remain unsolved. The question of direct plasty dilatation of LMCA has not lost its actuality. Operations were made on 6 patients in whom direct plasty dilatation of LMCA with a flap from autopericardium was performed for local, not lengthy constriction which was located in the initial and middle part of LMCA. The operations were made under conditions of extracorporeal circulation, moderate general hypothermia (about 32 degrees C), pharmacohypothermic cardioplagia with external cooling of the heart. In all cases there was good restoration of cardiac activity and the absence of myocardium ischemia at the postoperative period. The restoration of the anatomical lumen of LMCA by this method facilitated sufficient blood flow along LMCA. Five years later all the patients are alive, one patient has external angina of the 11 functional class.

Angular distributions of projectile-associated He fragments from Au induced reactions in nuclear emulsions at 10.7 A GeV have been measured with a precision of ±0.1 mrad. Two emission components are indubitably appearing, one representing fragmentation of a fermionic system while the other one exhibits large transverse momentum transfer. Possible explanations for the latter component are discussed.

The first rapidity density distributions from relativistic collisions between truly heavy nuclei are presented. The distributions are compared with expectations from a linear extrapolation of results obtained from collisions with lighter nuclei. Fluctuations are essentially described by a simple scenario with stochastic emission.

Abstract

We use scaled factorial cumulant moments to analyze pseudorapidity fluctuations in nucleus-nucleus collisions. This approach is similar to the method of scaled factorial moments except that it removes the effects of lower-order correlations upon a given moment. Significant second-order cumulants and cumulant indices (slopes with respect to bin size) are found for all of the interactions studied. These indices are found to have an inverse dependence upon average pseudorapidity particle density.

Abstract

This paper presents data on the emission of helium fragments due to break up of 200 A GeV 32S ions in collision with emulsion nuclei. A total of 499 minimum bias events have been studied in an emulsion stack and 97 events in emulsion chambers. Emission angles of He fragments have been measured with high precision. This data has been compared with data of breakup of heavier as well as lighter projectiles and we observe that the value of the momentum spread, σ(p), increases with increasing projectile mass. The bulk part of the helium emission is consistent with a single source for helium fragments with an average excitation energy of (9.1±0.9) MeV. A tail of a few (

Abstract

Non-statistical fluctuations are used to probe the dynamical behaviour of multi-particle production in heavy-ion interactions at ultra-relativistic energies. In a one-dimensional analysis a 1〈ϱ〉-scaling is established and it is furthermore found that effects from higher-order particle correlations are small. In a two-dimensional analysis it is shown that a small background of particle pairs with a narrow opening angle can distort the observed signal. As an example we estimate the influence of γ-conversion and find that in our experiment γ-conversion alone gives results consistent with the experimental observations from a two-dimensional analysis. Whereas a two-dimensional analysis filters events where two particles are extremely close in phase space, the one-dimensional analysis picks out events with particles clustered in pseudorapidity, which are at the same time diluted in the azimuthal plane.

Abstract

The energy and centrality dependence of local particle pseudorapidity densities as well as validity of various parametrizations of the distributions are examined. The dispersion, σ, of the rapidity density distribution of produced particles varies slowly with centrality and is 0.80, 0.98, 1.21 and 1.41 for central interactions at 3.7, 14.6, 60 and 200A GeV incident energy, respectively, σ is found to be independent of the size of the interacting system at fixed energy. A novel way of representing the window dependence of the multiplicity as normalized variance versus inverse average multiplicity is outlined.

Abstract

The mass, energy, and centrality dependence of rapidity density distributions of relativistic, charged particles, produced in heavy-ion interactions in the energy range 4A–200A GeV, are investigated. The results indicate that the rapidity density distributions show systematic variations, which are used to predict distributions for Au+Au and Pb+Pb interactions in a model-independent way.

Abstract

The EMU01 Collaboration has employed emulsion chamber and pellicle detectors to accumulate a large database of heavy nucleus interactions. Samples include both minimum bias and central collisions, analyzed in a uniform manner to extract multiplicities and angular distributions of charged particles and nuclear fragments. We find that the main features of these distribution are well represented by geometrical superposition models. A unique feature of EMU01 is the use of emulsion chambers with thin foil targets to observe produced particle angular distributions with exceptionally high precision, permitting extension of fluctuations and correlations analyses beyond the resolution limits imposed by other experimental techniques. The data are generally well reproduced by interaction simulations such as FRITIOF (the Lund monte carlo for nuclear collisons) which include only conventional physics effects. However, the analysis of fluctuations and correlations via factorial moment and cumulant techniques yields some suggestive results which require further investigation, both by continued analysis of existing data and from Au and Pb beam exposures scheduled for the next few years.

Abstract

The scaling behaviour in the fragmentation regions is investigated for16O-Em interactions from 3.7 to 200A GeV. It is found that in both the projectile- and the target-fragmentation regions, the multiplicity and pseudo-rapidity distributions as well as the two-particle pseudo-rapidity correlations are independent of incident energy. The intermittency indices at 14.6, 60 and 200A GeV are the same within the experimental errors, indicating that the limiting fragmentation hypothesis works with regard to dynamical as well as statistical fluctuations.

Abstract

Due to the new coronavirus infection pandemic, the global scientific community has been forced to change the direction of the most research, focusing on vaccine development as well as the search for new antiviral drugs to treat COVID-19. The choice of experimental models, timeframe and approaches for evaluating drugs and vaccines under development is crucial for the development of effective measures to prevent and control this disease. The purpose of this review was to summarize the relevant data concerning the susceptibility of laboratory animals to SARS-CoV-2. This paper describes the most virus-susceptible animal species that can be used to reproduce coronavirus infection, stressing the main advantages and disadvantages of each of them. According to the latest data, small rodents (Rodentia) and non-human primates (Strepsirrhini) are commonly used in the scientific community to model coronavirus infection. The viral load in the upper and lower parts of the respiratory system, clinical symptoms of infection (weight loss, body temperature and general health status), pathomorphological picture in target organs and the production of antibodies after infection are considered to the main markers of pathology. Despite the vast amount of data, none of the described models of SARS-CoV-2 infection may be considered a gold standard, since they do not reproduce all spectrum of morphological and pathogenetic mechanisms of infection, and do not fully reflect the clinical picture observed in patients in human population. Based on the analyzed literature data, we suppose that Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) and mice (Muridae) expressing the angiotensin converting enzyme receptor 2 (ACE2) are the most suitable animal species for their use in experiments with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The development of neutralizing antibodies makes it possible to evaluate the efficacy of vaccines, while the course and severity of symptoms infection makes the use of mice and hamsters especially popular for screening pharmacological substances with antiviral mechanism of action, when their administration can prevent or slow the disease progression.

Abstract

The slow, target associated particles produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion interactions are a quantitative probe of the cascading processes in the spectator parts of the target nucleus. These processes are directly influenced by the proper timescale for the formation of hadronic matter. In this letter we show experimental data on singly and multiply charged particles, with velocities smaller than 0.7 c , produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion interactions in nuclear emulsion.

Abstract

In this letter we show that most of the fluctuations in particle densities observed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions are consistent with stochastic emission, i.e., most of the correlations between produced particles are washed out due to the vast number of particles in the environment. We further explore the general trends by investigating different systems, energies and centrality cuts. Comparisons with the Fritiof model show that string fragmentation gives results similar to the data.

Abstract

In the present letter we discuss the general features of the multiplicity distributions in relativistic heavy ion collisions. It is shown that from simple statistical considerations it is possible to predict the dependence of the dispersions of multiplicity distributions on the average multiplicities in any given rapidty wwindow. The applicability of the negative binomial distribution to multiplicity distributions from collisions with heavy ions is discussed.

Abstract

The average multiplicities of singly charged relativistic particles in oxygen-induced interactions with a nuclear emulsion target are studied over the energy range 2.1–200 A GeV. A similar energy dependence as for proton-induced interactions is observed. Both the number of participating nucleons and the number of binary collisions are shown to be of importance for the particle production.
