Abstract

We searched for pair production of charged Higgs bosons via e+e− annihilation, using data (23.3 pb−) collected by the TOPAZ detector in the energy range s = 52.0 – 61.4 GeV. We observed no evidence for charged Higgs pair production and extended the excluded region in the MH±BR (hadron) plane. The 95% CL lower mass limit is the most stringent for BR (hadron) = 0.6, giving mH±

Abstract

A search for the b′ quark via flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) decay modes is described. The search was carried out by looking for isolated high energy photon(s) or back to back jet pairs within 4-jet topologies using the data taken by the TOPAZ detector at TRISTAN in the energy range s=50.0−60.8 GeV. As the FCNC decay branching ratio of the b′ is unknown, the experimental limits are given as a function of mass and branching ratio. Assuming the branching ration of the FCNC mode is 100%, a mass limit for b′ is set ⩾28.3 GeV/c2 independent of Br(b′→bγ).

Abstract

The reactions e + e − → μ + μ − and τ + τ − were measured at s =52 GeV and 55 GeV by using the TOPAZ detector at TRISTAN. For the combined data, the observed charge asymmetry is −0.29±0.13 and the total cross section is 27.9±3.0 (stat.)±0.8 (syst.) pb for μ + μ − production, and those for τ + τ − production are −0.20±0.14 and 35.7±4.3 (stat.)±2.4 (syst.)pb, respectively. These values are consistent with predictions by the standard model of electroweak interactions.

Abstract

Differential cross sections for the processes e + e − → e + e − (Bhabha scattering) and e + e − → γγ have been measured with the TOPAZ detector at s =52 GeV . The results agree with the predictions of quantum electrodynamics (QED). The lower limits for the QED cut-off parameters have been obtained to be Λ + ⩾115 GeV and Λ − ⩾236 GeV for Bhabha scattering, and Λ + ⩾94 GeV and Λ − ⩾59 GeV for the reaction e + e − → γγ .

Abstract

We have searched for new sequential heavy leptons L/sup +- / in e/sup +/e/sup -/ collisions at ..sqrt..s = 52 GeV using the TOPAZ detector at the KEK storage ring TRISTAN. In the collected data with an integrated luminosity of 3.6 pb/sup -1/, no evidence for L/sup +- / production has been observed. A lower mass limit for L/sup +- / is determined to be 25.5 GeV/c/sup 2/ at 95% confidence level.

Abstract

A search for fourth-generation charge - 1 3 ( b ′) quarks using inclusive muon events in e+e- annihilations at s =56.5-60.8 GeV is presented, considering its decays through loop-induced flavor-changing neutral-current as well as its charged current decays. Production of b′ (and top) was excluded as the cause of slightly high R-values observed at ∈s=⩾56.0 GeV, if they decay dominantly through a charged-current (68%). One large aplanarity event (A=0.17 with an isolated muon, observed at s =60.8 GeV, is also presented.

Abstract

We searched for possible signatures of top-quark production in 508 e/sup +/e/sup -/ hadronic annihilation events collected at ..sqrt..s = 52 GeV by the TOPAZ detector at the KEK e/sup +/e/sup -/ collider TRISTAN. The observed total hadronic cross section and shape of hadronic events are consistent with the standard-model predictions without top quarks. A lower limit (95% confidence level) on the mass of the lightest top meson is set at 25.8 GeV.

Abstract

The TOPAZ detector has accumulated about 11 pb−1 of data in the energy range s =52−57 GeV . Charged supersymmetric particles have been searched for. Assuming the photino to be massless, we place limits on the chargino of m χ GeV , on the scalar muon, tau, and quark of m μ GeV , m τ GeV , and m q GeV . The scalar electron can be excluded up to a mass of ∼ 28 GeV. Other cases are examined.
