Abstract

Abstract A review is presented of the latest technologies for vertex detectors that can be used in experiments at the NICA collider. These technologies include both the novel pixel detectors with new ultralight radiation-transparent carbon composite structures and cooling systems. The efficiency of reconstructing D meson decay is estimated for the developed detector complexes, and the possibility of using these complexes to study the formation of clusters of cold, dense quark-gluon matter inside nuclei are studied.

Abstract

The study of the processes and mechanisms of the medium group mass nuclear systems formation (formed in reactions with protons) has both an important fundamental and practical significance. These tasks are especially important for the production of medical radionuclides, which are used for the effective early diagnosis and treatment of the various cancers. Combining the methods of radionuclide imaging with the methods of radionuclide therapy (therapy plus diagnostics—theranostics), it is possible to implement unique methods of non-surgical treatment of tumors with their precise visualization and minimal side effects. Therefore, in this work the experimental and theoretical studies of the nuclear reaction excitation functions with targets: 117Sn and 119Sn in the proton energy range of 6–18 MeV are carried out. Cross sections of the formation of antimony radionuclides are obtained for these reactions, and the mechanisms of such reactions are analyzed. Antimony radionuclides are promising for use in theranostics.

Abstract

The production of hadrons containing heavy quarks as well as the fragmentation of dense nuclear matter clusters accompanied by an increase in the yield of heavy flavor particles can be studied at the energies of colliding nuclei in the NICA collider. The concept of a vertex detector based on silicon pixel detectors was therefore developed for the effective registration of short-lived particles in the Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) experiment at the NICA collider. Estimates of the main characteristics of this vertex detector are obtained.

Abstract

Thermal cooling performances of extremely lightweight mechanical carbon fiber support structures with an integrated liquid cooling system for monolithic silicon pixel detectors have been investigated. The high heat removal efficiency using single-phase liquid flow is shown for a power density up to 0.5 W/cm$^2$. These solutions provide therefore possibility to build a detector with a record radiation length of 0.3% per layer, ensuring considerable extensions of the physical program of investigations of the quark-gluon plasma in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify the risk factors of spontaneous pneumomediastinum and to determine its management strategy in patients with the novel coronavirus infection.Material and methods. Eighteen patients with spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM) hospitalized in the Center for Novel Coronavirus Infection of the Mechnikov Northwestern State Medical University from 2020 to 2021 were examined. The control group consisted of 18 persons selected using matched sampling. We analyzed symptoms, medical and life history, comorbidities, physical examination results, laboratory and instrumental data, and disease management of patients in both groupsResults. The groups were comparable by age and sex. Among all patients hospitalized with the novel coronavirus infection, spontaneous pneumomediastinum was registered in 1.3% (n=18). Analysis of symptoms, medical and life history, comorbidities, physical examination results, laboratory and instrumental data and disease management did not reveal significant differences between the groups. At the same time, the proportion of obese patients in the main group was lower than in the control group. Estimation of HR showed that the risk of spontaneous pneumomediastinum development was significantly lower in obesity (HR=0.14; 95% CI: 0.033–0.63, P=0.010).Conclusion. The risk of spontaneous pneumomediastinum is significantly lower in obese patients.

Abstract

Aim. To analyze newly diagnosed diseases and features of the post-COVID course in patients after a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) within 12-month follow-up.Material and methods. A total of 9364 consecutively hospitalized patients were included in the ACTIV registry. Enrollment of patients began on June 29, 2020, and was completed on March 30, 2021, corresponding to the first and second waves of the pandemic. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data, computed tomography (CT) results, information about inhospital clinical course and complications of COVID-19 during hospitalization were extracted from electronic health records using a standardized data collection form. The design included follow-up telephone interviews with a standard questionnaire at 3, 6, and 12 months to examine the course of post-COVID period.Results. According to the ACTIV registry, 18,1% of patients after COVID-19 had newly diagnosed diseases (NDDs) over the next 12 months. Hypertension (HTN), type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease (CAD) prevailed in the NDD structure. Comparison of the age-standardized incidence of NDDs (HTN, CAD, diabetes) in the post-COVID period in the ACTIV registry with NDD incidence in 2019 according to Rosstat and the expected incidence of NDDs according to the EPOHA study revealed that HTN, diabetes, CAD in patients after COVID-19 were registered more often as follows: HTN by 7,0 and 4,4 times, diabetes by 7,3 and 8,8 times, CAD by 2,3 and 2,9 times, respectively. NDDs most often developed in patients aged 47 to 70 years. Comparison of the actual and expected number of cases of newly diagnosed HTN, CAD and diabetes depending on age showed that the actual number of cases in the population of patients in the ACTIV register is significantly higher than expected for patients aged 45-69 years and for patients with hypertension or diabetes and aged

Abstract

Aim. To study the lipid profile in hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) depending on the outcome of its acute phase according to the AKTIV international registry.Material and methods. The AKTIV registry included men and women over 18 years of age with a diagnosis of COVID-19, who were treated in a hospital. A total of 9364 patients were included in the registry, of which 623 patients were analyzed for levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides on days 1-2 of hospitalization. The level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was calculated using the Friedewald equation.Results. We found that a decrease in LDL-C level was significantly associated with an unfavorable prognosis for hospitalized patients with COVID-19. This pattern persisted in both univariate and multivariate analyses. LDL-C levels in the final multivariate model had a significant relationship with the prognosis (an increase in the death risk by 1,7 times with a decrease per 1 mmol/l).
