The lattice cohomology of a reduced curve singularity is a bigraded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module ${\mathbb H}^*=\oplus_{q,n}{\mathbb H}^q_{2n}$, that categorifies the $\delta$-invariant and extract key geometric information from the semigroup of values. In the present paper we prove three structure theorems for this new invariant: (a) the weight-grading of the reduced cohomology is (just as in the case of the topological lattice cohomology of normal surface singularities) nonpositive; (b) the graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module structure of ${\mathbb H}^0$ determines whether or not a given curve is Gorenstein; and finally (c) the lattice cohomology module ${\mathbb H}^0$ of any plane curve singularity determines its multiplicity.

We study the multiplier ideals and the corresponding jumping numbers and multiplicities $\{m(c)\}_{c\in \mathbb{R}}$ in the following context: $(X,o)$ is a complex analytic normal surface singularity, ${\mathfrak a}\subset \mathcal{O}_{X,o}$ is an ${\mathfrak m}_{X,o}$--primary ideal, $\phi:\widetilde{X}\to X$ is a log resolution of $\mathfrak{a}$ such that $\mathfrak{a}\mathcal{O}_{\widetilde{X}}=\mathcal{O}_{\widetilde{X}}(-F)$, for some nonzero effective divisor $F$ supported on $\phi^{-1}(0)$. We show that $\{m(c)\}_{c>0}$ is combinatorially computable from $F$ and the resolution graph $\Gamma$ of $\phi$, and we provide several formulae. We also extend Budur's result (valid for $(X,o)=(\mathbb{C}^2,0)$), which makes an identification of $\sum_{c\in[0,1]}m(c)t^c$ with a certain Hodge spectrum. In our general case we use Hodge spectrum with coefficients in a mixed Hodge module. We show that $\{m(c)\}_{c\leq 0}$ usually depends on the analytic type of $(X,o)$. However, for some distinguished analytic types we determine it concretely. E.g., when $(X,o)$ is weighted homogeneous (and $F$ is associated with the central vertex), we recover $\sum_cm(c)t^c$ from the Poincar\'e series of $(X,o)$ and when $(X,o)$ is a splice quotient then we recover $\sum_cm(c)t^c$ from the multivariable topological Poincar\'e (zeta) function of $\Gamma$., Comment: 23 pages, some minor corrections, list of references extended

We fix a complex analytic normal singularity germ $(X,o)$ of dimension $\geq 2$ and a (not necessarily irreducible) reduced Weil divisor $(S,o)\subset (X,o)$. The embedded resolution of the pair determines a multi-index filtration of the local ring $\mathcal{O}_{X,o}$, which measures the embedded geometry of the pair. Furthermore, from the (induced) resolution of $(S,o)$ we also consider a multi-index filtration associated with $(S,o)$. This latter one can be lifted to a filtration of $\mathcal{O}_{X,o}$ too. The main result proves that the second filtration of $\mathcal{O}_{X,o}$ can be realized as a `limit' filtration of the first one (if we blow up certain centers sufficiently many times)., Comment: 10 pages

Let $(X,o)$ be a complex analytic normal surface singularity with rational homology sphere link $M$. The `topological' lattice cohomology ${\mathbb H}^*=\oplus_{q\geq 0} {\mathbb H}^q$ associated with $M$ and with any of its spin$^c$ structures was introduced by the author. Each ${\mathbb H}^q$ is a graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$--module. Here we consider its homological version ${\mathbb H}_*=\oplus_{q\geq 0}{\mathbb H}_q$. The construction uses a Riemann-Roch type weight function. A key intermediate product is a tower of spaces $\{S_n\}_{n\in {\mathbb Z}}$ such that ${\mathbb H}_q=\oplus_n H_q(S_n,{\mathbb Z})$. In this article we fix the embedded topological type of a reduced curve singularity $(C,o)$ embedded into $(X,o)$, that is, a 1-dimensional link $L_C\subset M$. Each component of $L_C$ will also carry a non-negative integral decoration. For any fixed $n$, the embedded link $L_C$ provides a natural filtration of the space $S_n$, which induces a homological spectral sequence converging to the homogeneous summand $H_q(S_n,{\mathbb Z})$ of the lattice homology. All the entries of all the pages of the spectral sequences are new invariants of the decorated $(M,L_C)$. Each page provides a triple graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module. We provide several concrete computations of these pages and structure theorems for the corresponding multivariable Poincar\'e series associated with the entries of the spectral sequences. Connections with Jacobi theta series are also discussed.

Let $(C,o)$ be a complex analytic isolated curve singularity of arbitrary large embedded dimension. Its lattice cohomology ${\mathbb H}^*=\oplus_{q\geq 0}{\mathbb H}^q$ was introduced by \'Agoston and the author, each ${\mathbb H}^q$ is a graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$--module. Here we study its homological version ${\mathbb H}_*(C,o)=\oplus_{q\geq 0}{\mathbb H}_q$. The construction uses the multivariable Hilbert function associated with the valuations provided by the normalization of the curve. A key intermediate product is a tower of spaces $\{S_n\}_{n\in {\mathbb Z}}$ such that ${\mathbb H}_q=\oplus_n H_q(S_n,{\mathbb Z})$. In this article for every $n$ we consider a natural filtration of the space $S_n$, which provides a homological spectral sequence converging to the homogeneous summand $H_q(S_n,{\mathbb Z})$ of the lattice homology. All the entries of all the pages of the spectral sequences are new invariants of $(C,o)$. We show how the collection of the first pages is equivalent with the motivic Poincar\'e series of $(C,o)$.We provide several concrete computations of the corresponding multivariable Poincar\'e series associated with the entries of the spectral sequences. In the case of plane curve singularities, the first page can also be identified with the Heegaard Floer Link homology of the link of the singularity. In this way, the new invariants provide for an arbitrary (non necessarily plane) singularity a homological theory which is the analogue of the Heegaard Floer Link theory for links of plane curve singularities.

We classify the reflexive modules of rank one over rational and minimally elliptic singularities. Equivalently, we classify full line bundles on the resolutions of rational and minimally elliptic singularities. As an application, we determine among such reflexive modules of rank one all the special ones (in the sense of Wunram) and all the flat ones. In this way, we also classify the non-flat reflexive modules as well (as a generalization of a construction of Dan and Romano). In particular, we prove (in the rank one case) a conjecture of Behnke, namely that in the case of a cusp singularity any reflexive module admits a flat connection. The results generalize the classical Mckay correspondence, and results of Artin, Verdier, Esnault, Khan and Wunram valid for different particular families of singularities.

We construct a lattice cohomology ${\mathbb H}^*(C,o)=\oplus_{q\geq 0}{\mathbb H}^q(C,o)$ and a graded root ${\mathfrak R}(C,o)$ to any complex isolated curve singularity $(C,o)$. Each ${\mathbb H}^q(C,o)$ is a ${\mathbb Z}$-graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module. The Euler characteristic of ${\mathbb H}^*(C,o)$ is the delta-invariant of $(C,o)$. The construction is based on the multivariable Hilbert series of the multifiltration provided by valuations of the normalization. Several examples are discussed, e.g. Gorenstein curves (where an additional symmetry is established), plane curves (in particular, Newton non-degenerate ones), ordinary $r$-tuples. We also prove that a flat deformation $(C_t,o)_{t\in ({\mathbb C},0)}$ of isolated curve singularities induces an explicit degree zero graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module morphism ${\mathbb H}^0(C_{t=0},o)\to {\mathbb H}^0(C_{t\not=0},o)$, and a graded (graph) map of degree zero at the level of graded roots ${\mathfrak R}(C_{t\not=0},o)\to{\mathfrak R}(C_{t=0},o)$. In the treatment of the deformation functor we need a second construction of the lattice cohomology in terms of the system of linear subspace arrangements associated with the above filtration.

We associate (under a minor assumption) to any analytic isolated singularity of dimension $n\geq 2$ the `analytic lattice cohomology' ${\mathbb H}^*_{an}=\oplus_{q\geq 0}{\mathbb H}^q_{an}$. Each ${\mathbb H}^q_{an}$ is a graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$--module. It is the extension to higher dimension of the `analytic lattice cohomology' defined for a normal surface singularity with a rational homology sphere link. This latest one is the analytic analogue of the `topological lattice cohomology' of the link of the normal surface singularity, which conjecturally is isomorphic to the Heegaard Floer cohomology of the link. The definition uses a good resolution $\widetilde{X}$ of the singularity $(X,o)$. Then we prove the independence of the choice of the resolution, and we show that the Euler characteristic of ${\mathbb H}^*_{an}$ is $h^{n-1}({\mathcal O}_{\widetilde{X}})$. We construct the equivariant analytic lattice cohomology associated with the analytic type of a complex normal surface singularity whenever the link is a rational homology sphere. It is the categorification of the equivariant geometric genus of the germ. We construct the analytic lattice cohomology associated with the analytic type of any complex normal surface singularity. It is the categorification of the geometric genus of the germ, whenever the link is a rational homology sphere. It is the analytic analogue of the topological lattice cohomology, associated with the link of the germ whenever it is a rational homology sphere. This topological lattice cohomology is the categorification of the Seiberg--Witten invariant, and conjecturally it is isomorphic with the Heegaard Floer cohomology. We compare the two lattice cohomologies: in some simple cases they coincide, but in general, the analytic cohomology is sensitive to the analytic structure. We expect a deep connection with deformation theory. We provide several basic properties and key examples, and we formulate several conjectures and problems. This is the initial article of a series, in which we develop the analytic lattice cohomology of singularities.

Let $(X,o)$ be a complex analytic normal surface singularity and let ${\mathcal O}_{X,o}$ be its local ring. We investigate the normal reduction number of ${\mathcal O}_{X,o}$ and related numerical analytical invariants via resolutions $\widetilde{X}\to X$ of $(X,o)$ and cohomology groups of different line bundles ${\mathcal L}\in {\rm Pic}(\widetilde{X})$. The normal reduction number is the universal optimal bound from which powers of certain ideals have stabilization properties. Here we combine this with stability properties of the iterated Abel maps. Some of the main results provide topological upper bounds for both stabilization properties.

We prove that the topological type of a normal surface singularity $(X,0)$ provides finite bounds for the multiplicity and polar multiplicity of $(X,0)$, as well as for the combinatorics of the families of generic hyperplane sections and of polar curves of the generic plane projections of $(X,0)$. A key ingredient in our proof is a topological bound of the growth of the Mather discrepancies of $(X,0)$, which allows us to bound the number of point blowups necessary to achieve factorization of any resolution of $(X,0)$ through its Nash transform. We introduce and develop the theory of Newton nondegenerate local Weil divisors $(X,0)$ in toric affine varieties. We characterize in terms of the toric combinatorics of the Newton diagram different properties of such singular germs: normality, Gorenstein property, or being an Cartier divisor in the ambient space. We discuss certain properties of their (canonical) resolution $\tilde{X}\to X $ and the corresponding canonical divisor. We provide combinatorial formulae for the delta--invariant $\delta(X,0)$ and for the cohomology groups $H^i(\tilde X,\mathcal{O}_{\tilde X})$ for $i>0$. In the case $\dim(X,0)=2$, we provide the (canonical) resolution graph from the Newton diagram and we also prove that if such a Weil divisor is normal and Gorenstein, and the link is a rational homology sphere, then the geometric genus is given by the minimal path cohomology, a topological invariant of the link., Comment: 37 pages, 13 figures

Let (C,0) be a reduced curve germ in a normal surface singularity (X,0). The main goal is to recover the delta invariant of the abstract curve (C,0) from the topology of the embedding. We give explicit formulae whenever (C,0) is minimal generic and (X,0) is rational (as a continuation of previous works of the authors). Additionally we prove that if (X,0) is a quotient singularity, then the delta invariant of (C,0) only admits the values r-1 or r, where r is the number or irreducible components of (C,0). In this article we study abstract and embedded invariants of reduced curve germs via topological techniques. One of the most important numerical analytic invariants of an abstract curve is its delta invariant. Our primary goal is to develop delta invariant formulae for curves embedded in rational singularities in terms of embedded data. We prove that if (C,0) is a reduced curve germ on a rational surface singularity (X,0) then its delta invariant can be recovered by a concrete expression associated with the embedded topological type of the pair (X,C). Furthermore, we also identify it with another (a priori) embedded analytic invariant, which is motivated by the theory of adjoint ideals. Let $(X,o)$ be a complex normal surface singularity with rational homology sphere link and let $\widetilde{X}$ be one of its good resolutions. Fix an effective cycle $Z$ supported on the exceptional curve and also a possible Chern class $l'\in H^2(\widetilde{X},\mathbb{Z})$. Define ${\rm Eca}^{l'}(Z)$ as the space of effective Cartier divisors on $Z$ and $c^{l'}(Z):{\rm Eca}^{l'}(Z)\to {\rm Pic}^{l'}(Z)$, the corresponding Abel map. In this note we provide two algorithms, which provide the dimension of the image of the Abel map. Usually, $\dim {\rm Pic}^{l'}(Z)=p_g$, $\dim\,{\rm Im} (c^{l'}(Z))$ and ${\rm codim}\,{\rm Im} (c^{l'}(Z))$ are not topological, they are in subtle relationship with cohomologies of certain line bundles. However, we provide combinatorial formulae for them whenever the analytic structure on $\widetilde{X}$ is generic. The ${\rm codim}\,{\rm Im} (c^{l'}(Z))$ is related with $\{h^1(\widetilde{X},\mathcal{L})\}_{\mathcal{L}\in {\rm Im} (c^{l'}(Z))}$; in order to treat the `twisted' family $\{h^1(\widetilde{X},\mathcal{L}_0\otimes \mathcal{L})\}_{\mathcal{L}\in {\rm Im} (c^{l'}(Z))}$ we need to elaborate a generalization of the Picard group and of the Abel map. The above algorithms are also generalized.

We target multivariable series associated with resolutions of complex analytic normal surface singularities. In general, the equivariant multivariable analytical and topological Poincar\'e series are well-defined and have good properties only if the link is a rational homology sphere. We wish to create a model when this assumption is not valid: we analyse the case of cusps. For such germs we define even the motivic versions of these two series, we prove that they are equal, and we provide explicit combinatorial expression for them. This is done via a motivic multivariable series associated with the space of effective Cartier divisors of the reduced exceptional curve.

If $(\widetilde{X},E)\to (X,o)$ is the resolution of a complex normal surface singularity and $c_1:{\rm Pic}(\widetilde{X})\to H^2(\widetilde{X},{\mathbb Z})$ is the Chern class map, then ${\rm Pic}^{l'}(\widetilde{X}):= c_1^{-1}(l')$ has a (Brill--Noether type) stratification $W_{l', k}:= \{{\mathcal L}\in {\rm Pic}^{l'}(\widetilde{X})\,:\, h^1({\mathcal L})=k\}$. In this note we determine it for elliptic singularities together with the stratification according to the cycle of fixed components. For elliptic singularities we also characterize the End Curve Condition and Weak End Curve Condition in terms of the Abel map, we provide several characterization of them, and finally we show that they are equivalent.

Let $ \Phi: ({\mathbb C}^2, 0) \to ( {\mathbb C}^3, 0) $ be a finitely determined complex analytic germ and let $(\{f=0\},0)$ be the reduced equation of its image, a non-isolated hypersurface singularity. We provide the plumbing graph of the boundary of the Milnor fibre of $f$ from the double-point-geometry of $\Phi$.

For any elliptic normal surface singularity with rational homology sphere link we consider a new elliptic sequence, which differs from the one introduced by Laufer and S. S.-T. Yau. However, we show that their length coincide. Using the properties of both sequences we succeed to connect the common length with the geometric genus and also with several topological invariants, e.g. with the Seiberg--Witten invariant of the link.

Our goal is to convince the readers that the theory of complex normal surface singularities can be a powerful tool in the study of numerical semigroups, and, in the same time, a very rich source of interesting affine and numerical semigroups. More precisely, we prove that the strongly flat semigroups, which satisfy the maximality property with respect to the Diophantine Frobenius problem, are exactly the numerical semigroups associated with negative definite Seifert homology spheres via the possible 'weights' of the generic $S^1$-orbit. Furthermore, we consider their generalization to the Seifert rational homology sphere case and prove an explicit (up to a Laufer computation sequence) formula for their Frobenius number. We study the analytic and topological invariants associated with complex normal surface singularities. Our goal is to provide topological formulae for several discrete analytic invariants whenever the analytic structure is generic (with respect to a fixed topological type), under the condition that the link is a rational homology sphere. The list of analytic invariants include: the geometric genus, the cohomology of certain natural line bundles, the cohomology of their restrictions on effective cycles (supported on the exceptional curve of a resolution), the cohomological cycle of natural line bundles, the multivariable Hilbert and Poincar\'e series associated with the divisorial filtration, the analytic semigroup, the maximal ideal cycle. The first part contains the definition of `generic structure' based on the work of Laufer. The second technical ingredient is the Abel map introduced by the authors. The results can be compared with certain parallel statements from the Brill-Noether theory and from the theory of Abel map associated with projective smooth curves, though the tools and machineries are very different.

Let $(X,o)$ be a complex normal surface singularity. We fix one of its good resolutions $\widetilde{X}\to X$, an effective cycle $Z$ supported on the reduced exceptional curve, and any possible (first Chern) class $l'\in H^2(\widetilde{X},\mathbb{Z})$. With these data we define the variety ${\rm ECa}^{l'}(Z)$ of those effective Cartier divisors $D$ supported on $Z$ which determine a line bundles $\mathcal{O}_Z(D)$ with first Chern class $l'$. Furthermore, we consider the affine space ${\rm Pic}^{l'}(Z)\subset H^1(\mathcal{O}_Z^*)$ of isomorphism classes of holomorphic line bundles with Chern class $l'$ and the Abel map $c^{l'}(Z):{\rm ECa}^{l'}(Z)\to {\rm Pic}^{l'}(Z)$. The present manuscript develops the major properties of this map, and links them with the determination of the cohomology groups $H^1(Z,\mathcal{L})$, where we might vary the analytic structure $(X,o)$ (supported on a fixed topological type/resolution graph) and we also vary the possible line bundles ${\mathcal{L}}\in {\rm Pic}^{l'}(Z)$. The case of generic line bundles of ${\rm Pic}^{l'}(Z)$ and generic line bundles of the image of the Abel map will have priority roles. Rewriting the Abel map via Laufer duality based on integration of forms on divisors, we can make explicit the Abel map and its tangent map. The case of superisolated and weighted homogeneous singularities are exemplified with several details. The theory has similar goals (but rather different techniques) as the theory of Abel map or Brill--Noether theory of reduced smooth projective curves.

Assume that the link of a complex normal surface singularity is a rational homology sphere. Then its Seiberg-Witten invariant can be computed as the `periodic constant' of the topological multivariable Poincar\'e series (zeta function). This involves a complicated regularization procedure (via quasipolynomials measuring the asymptotic behaviour of the coefficients). We show that the (a Gorenstein type) symmetry of the zeta function combined with Ehrhart-Macdonald-Stanley reciprocity (of Ehrhart theory of polytopes) provide a simple expression for the periodic constant. Using these dualities we also find a multivariable polynomial generalization of the Seiberg-Witten invariant, and we compute it in terms of lattice points of certain polytopes. All these invariants are also determined via lattice point counting, in this way we establish a completely general topological analogue of formulae of Khovanskii and Morales valid for singularities with non-degenerate Newton principal part.

The main question we target is the following: If one fixes a topological type of a complex normal surface singularity then what are the possible analytic types supported by it, and/or, what are the possible values of the geometric genus? We answer the question for a specific (in some sense pathological) topological type, which supports rather different analytic structures. Consider a space X with the singular locus, Z=Sing(X), of positive dimension. Suppose both Z and X are locally complete intersections. The transversal type of X along Z is generically constant but at some points of Z it degenerates. We introduce (under certain conditions) the discriminant of the transversal type, a subscheme of Z, that reflects these degenerations whenever the generic transversal type is `ordinary'. The scheme structure of this discriminant is imposed by various compatibility properties and is often non-reduced. We establish the basic properties of this discriminant: it is a Cartier divisor in Z, functorial under base change, flat under some deformations of (X,Z), and compatible with pullback under some morphisms, etc. Furthermore, we study the local geometry of this discriminant, e.g. we compute its multiplicity at a point, and we obtain the resolution of its structure sheaf (as module on Z) and study the locally defining equation.

Assume that $M(\mathcal{T})$ is a rational homology sphere plumbed 3-manifold associated with a connected negative definite graph $\mathcal{T}$. We consider the combinatorial multivariable Poincar\'e series associated with $\mathcal{T}$ and its counting functions, which encode rich topological information. Using the `periodic constant' of the series (with reduced variables) we prove surgery formulae for the normalized Seiberg-Witten invariants: the periodic constant appears as the difference of the Seiberg-Witten invariants associated with $M(\mathcal{T})$ and $M(\mathcal{T}\setminus\mathcal{I})$, where $\mathcal{I}$ is an arbitrary subset of the set of vertices of $\mathcal{T}$., Comment: 24 pages

We study the geometry and topology of Hilbert schemes of points on the orbifold surface [C^2/G], respectively the singular quotient surface C^2/G, where G is a finite subgroup of SL(2,C) of type A or D. We give a decomposition of the (equivariant) Hilbert scheme of the orbifold into affine space strata indexed by a certain combinatorial set, the set of Young walls. The generating series of Euler characteristics of Hilbert schemes of points of the singular surface of type A or D is computed in terms of an explicit formula involving a specialized character of the basic representation of the corresponding affine Lie algebra; we conjecture that the same result holds also in type E.
