Two new crystal structures of phosphotetradecavanadates are reported and theoretical calculations, including DFT analysis, disclose their intermolecular binding interactions.

A internacionalização em casa pode beneficiar todos os tipos de alunos e seu valor se tornou mais evidente no longo período após a pandemia de Covid-19. Este artigo relata uma iniciativa de virtual exchange: estudantes de inglês como língua estrangeira no Brasil e alunos de redação em inglês nos Estados Unidos envolvidos em um projeto de telecolaboração internacional. Nosso objetivo foi entender se os alunos que participam de projetos de telecolaboração desenvolvem atitudes que levam à competência intercultural, uma vez que são abordadas questões relacionadas à assimetria de poder entre falantes nativos e não nativos de inglês. Para determinar se os dois grupos de alunos desenvolveram atitudes de tolerância, respeito e curiosidade por outras culturas, bem como atitudes de confiança mútua, pedimos que respondessem a um questionário ao final do projeto. Os resultados mostram que a telecolaboração estimulou o interesse dos alunos por outras culturas, um primeiro passo crucial para a aquisição da competência intercultural. Os alunos colaboraram de forma eficaz porque os dois grupos confiaram na competência linguística um do outro. Nosso estudo confirma que a telecolaboração é uma das iniciativas mais sólidas pedagogicamente na esfera da internacionalização em casa. Mais instrutores devem preparar os alunos para se comunicarem e colaborarem efetivamente em equipes interculturais por meio desse tipo de aprendizagem experiencial

Internationalization-at-home (IaH) can benefit all types of students, and its value has become more evident in the long aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. This paper reports on a virtual exchange initiative: Students of English as a foreign language in Brazil and English composition in the US engaged in an international telecollaboration project. Our objective was to understand whether students who participate in telecollaboration projects develop attitudes that lead to intercultural competence once issues related to the power imbalance between native speakers and non-native speakers of English are addressed. To determine whether the two groups of students developed attitudes of tolerance, respect and curiosity for other cultures as well as attitudes of trust towards each other, we asked them to complete a questionnaire at the end of the project. Results show that the telecollaboration stimulated students’ interest in other cultures, a crucial first step towards the acquisition of intercultural competence. The students collaborated effectively because the two groups trusted each other’s linguistic competence. Our study confirms that telecollaboration is one of the most pedagogically sound initiatives within the sphere of IaH. More instructors should prepare students to communicate and collaborate effectively in cross-cultural teams through this type of experiential learning.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a family of benzohydrazones (L-n, n = 1-6) derived from 2-car-baldehyde-8-hydroxyquinoline and benzylhydrazides containing different substituents in the para position. Their oxidovanadium(IV) complexes were prepared and compounds with 1:1 and 1:2 metal-to-ligand stoichiometry were obtained. All compounds were characterized by elemental analyses and mass spectrometry as well as FTIR, UV-visible absorption, NMR (ligand precursors) and EPR (complexes) spectroscopies, and by DFT computational methods. Proton dissociation constants, lipophilicity and solubility in aqueous media were determined for all ligand precursors. Complex formation with V(IV)O was evaluated by spectrophotometry for L-4 (Me-substituted) and L-6 (OH-substituted) and formation constants for mono [VO(HL)](+), [VO(L)] and bis [VO(HL)(2)], [VO(HL) (L)], [VO(L)(2)](2- )complexes were determined. EPR spectroscopy indicates the formation of [VO(HL)](+) and [VO (HL)(2)], with this latter being the major species at the physiological pH. Noteworthy, the EPR data suggest a different behaviour for L-4 and L-6, which confirm the results obtained in the solid state. The antiproliferative activity of all compounds was evaluated in malignant melanoma (A-375) and lung (A-549) cancer cells. All complexes show much higher activity on A-375 (IC50 < 6.3 mu M) than in A-549 cells (IC50 > 20 mu M). Complex 3 (F-substituted) shows the lowest IC50 on both cell lines and lower than cisplatin (in A-375). Studies identified this compound as the one showing the highest increase in Annexin-V staining, caspase activity and induction of double stranded breaks, corroborating the cytotoxicity results. Resumo: O rápido desenvolvimento das Tecnologias Digitais de Informação e Comunicação impulsiona o desenvolvimento de produtos educativos e educacionais em meio digital na forma de softwares e aplicativos para aparelhos móveis. No cenário tecnológico atual ainda mantém-se, contudo, a importância e o valor dos recursos educacionais impressos, e especialmente dos livros didáticos, como instrumentos de aquisição de vocabulário por crianças em fase de alfabetização, abrindo novas oportunidades para a criação de produtos educacionais híbridos, que combinem recursos característicos das plataformas digitais e dos livros em papel. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho relata e discute resultados do desenvolvimento experimental de um protótipo de aplicativo multimodal para a aquisição lexical de inglês por crianças de sete a dez anos. O planejamento e a construção do protótipo se deram no âmbito de uma disciplina do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação Escolar da FCLAr/UNESP. É apresentada uma proposta para o desenho das telas do aplicativo, enquanto interface visual a ser usada pelo público da educação infantil, e demonstrada sua lógica de navegação por meio de fluxogramas, de modo a orientar a futura implementação desses recursos por equipes de desenvolvimento. Por fim, são discutidos resultados de um questionário semiestruturado respondido por dois grupos de professores de língua inglesa que refletiram sobre as condições, as possibilidades e os limites para uma efetiva aplicação do produto em contextos de educação formal e não-formal. The chemical modification of porphyran hydrocolloid is attempted, with the objective of enhancing its antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. Sulfated galactan porphyran is obtained from commercial samples of the red algae Porphyra dioica using Soxhlet extraction with water at 100ºC and precipitation with isopropyl alcohol. The extracted porphyran is then treated with modified L-tyrosines in aqueous medium in the presence of NaOH, at ca. 70ºC. The modified tyrosines L1 and L2 are prepared through a Mannich reaction with either thymol or 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol, respectively. While the reaction with 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol yields the expected tyrosine derivative, a mixture of products is obtained with thymol. The resulting polysaccharides are structurally characterized and the respective antioxidant and antimicrobial activities are determined. Porphyran treated with the N-(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butyl-benzyl)-L-tyrosine derivative, POR-L2, presents a noticeable superior radical scavenging and antioxidant activity compared to native porphyran, POR. Furthermore, it exhibited some antimicrobial activity against S. aureus. The surface morphology of films prepared by casting with native and modified porphyrans is studied by SEM/EDS. Both POR and POR-L2 present potential applicability in the production of films and washable coatings for food packaging with improved protecting characteristics. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

O objetivo desse trabalho foi analisar os aspectos pedagógicos e sociofilosóficos de um cineclube desenvolvido em uma escola de ensino médio, tendo como olhar principal o potencial interdisciplinar e a perspectiva sociocultural dessa atividade pedagógica. Esse projeto de extensão escolar envolveu alunos do ensino médio, aluno de graduação como monitor, professores da educação básica e pesquisadores da área de Educação em Ciências. A pesquisa qualitativa, teórica-empírica, foi desenvolvida na perspectiva de um estudo de caso, a partir de observações, aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas e análise de documentos oficiais. Os aspectos pedagógicos e sociofilosóficos foram discutidos a partir da exibição do filme Erin Brockovich: uma mulher de talentos. Os resultados evidenciaram a promoção de debates sobre ciência articulados à temas socioambientais e interdisciplinares, se constituindo como sendo um espaço interdisciplinar de alfabetização científica.

The Schiff bases {H3dfmp-(smdt)2} (I), {H3dfmp-(sbdt)2} (II) and {H3dfmp-(tsc)2} (III) are synthesized by reaction of 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol (H3dfmp) and S-methyldithiocarbazate (smdt), S-benzyldithiocarbazate (sbdt) and thiosemicarbazide (tsc), respectively. Addition of [VIVO(acac)2] to solutions of these compounds in methanol leads to the formation of the oxidovanadium(IV) complexes [VIVO{Hdfmp-(smdt)2(CH3OH)}] (1), [VIVO{Hdfmp-(sbdt)2(CH3OH)}] (2) and [VIVO{Hdfmp-(tsc)2(CH3OH)}] (3). All these VIVO-compounds can be oxidized to the corresponding dioxidovanadium(V) (VVO2) complexes in methanolic solution upon aerial oxidation in the presence of KOH. The isolated compounds are K[VVO2{Hdfmp-(smdt)2}] (4), K[VVO2{Hdfmp-(sbdt)2}] (5) and K[VVO2{Hdfmp-(tsc)2}] (6). The Cs+ salts of these complexes i.e. Cs[VVO2{Hdfmp-(smdt)2}] (7), Cs[VVO2{Hdfmp-(sbdt)2}] (8) and Cs[VVO2{Hdfmp-(tsc)2}] (9) are prepared similarly in the presence of CsOH. All these compounds are characterized by various spectroscopic techniques like FT-IR, UV-visible, and 1H and 51V NMR and thermal studies. IR spectral data confirm the coordination of ligands through the azomethine nitrogen, the sulphur and the phenolic oxygen atoms to the metal. These complexes show excellent catalytic activity and selectivity for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol and ethylbenzene in the presence of H2O2 as an oxidant. Various parameters such as the amount of catalyst and oxidant, reaction time, reaction temperature and solvent were taken into consideration to optimize these catalytic oxidations. Compound 7 was also remarkably efficient and selective in the catalytic oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehyde/ketone, as well as of several aromatic compounds such as toluene, benzene, cumene and tetralin.

We report the synthesis of 3-hydroxyl-2-naphthoylhydrazones containing pyrrole (HL1), furane (HL2) and thiophene (HL3) moieties and their V(IV)O-, Cu(II)- and Zn(II)-complexes. All compounds are characterized by the usual analytical techniques and coordination of the ligands to the metal ions is discussed based on spectroscopic data (FTIR, UV-vis, EPR and NMR) as well as CAMB3LYP DFT/TDDFT calculations, indicating the formation of neutral ML2 type complexes. The photophysical properties of ligands and complexes are disclosed. The binding to Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) is evaluated in detail using several spectroscopic tools. Circular dichroism shows that the compounds, and particularly the ligand precursors, stabilize BSA, increasing its a-helical content. Fluorescence studies indicate the formation of 1 : 1 protein-compound adducts, which is corroborated by molecular docking studies that show the interaction between Trp 213 of BSA and the naphthalene rings. The general toxicity is evaluated using the Artemia salina lethality assay, with all compounds showing general toxicity towards the brine shrimp model. The cytotoxicity on human cancer cells (H1299, MCF7, and HCT116) is assessed for all compounds and the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values are in the range from 0.57 to 27.35 mu M. Compounds containing L-1 (pyrrole derivative) are the most cytotoxic, with the vanadium and zinc complexes performing better than the copper ones, and some of them depicting IC50 values lower than 1.1 mM. However, selectivity needs improvement as the compounds show toxicity towards Artemia salina and normal fibroblasts. The development of pharmacologically active compounds based on bis(thiosemicarbazones) (BTSC) and on their coordination to metal centers constitutes a promising field of research. We have recently explored this class of ligands and their Cu(II) complexes for the design of cancer theranostics agents with enhanced uptake by tumoral cells. In the present work, we expand our focus to aliphatic and aromatic BTSC Zn(II) complexes bearing piperidine/morpholine pendant arms. The new complexes ZnL1–ZnL4 were characterized by a variety of analytical techniques, which included single-crystal X-ray crystallography for ZnL2 and ZnL3. Taking advantage of the fluorescent properties of the aromatic complexes, we investigated their cellular uptake kinetics and subcellular localization. Furthermore, we tried to elucidate the mechanism of action of the cytotoxic effect observed in human cancer cell line models. The results show that the aliphatic complexes (ZnL1 and ZnL2) have a symmetrical structure, while the aromatic counterparts (ZnL3 and ZnL4) have an asymmetrical nature. The cytotoxic activity was higher for the aromatic BTSC complexes, as well as the cellular uptake, evaluated by measurement of intracellular Zn accumulation. Among the most active complexes, ZnL3 presented the fastest uptake kinetics and lysosomal localization assessed by live-cell microscopy. Detailed studies of its impact on cellular production of reactive oxygen species and impairment of lysosomal membrane integrity reinforced the influence of the pendant piperidine in the biological performance of aromatic BTSC Zn(II) complexes.

Two other related compounds (H2L5 and H2L6), containing an additional 2-methyl-pyridine arm, and the corresponding VIVO (5) and CuII (8–9) complexes were also obtained. All metal complexes are monomeric in the solid state, having a solvent molecule or a chloride ion in the coordination sphere. The in vitro cytotoxic activity of all compounds is evaluated against cancer cells from different origins. The IC50 values at 72 h are in the range of 6–15 μM for HeLa cells, 4–17 μM for A-549 cells and >25 μM for MDA-MB-231 cells, except for [VIVOL1(CH3OH)] (1) and [CuL6(H2O)] (9). With the exception of H2L6, overall, the metal complexes are more cytotoxic than the corresponding ligand precursors. Globally, the cellular viability data show that (i) the L-Phe derived compounds are more cytotoxic than the corresponding L-Val complexes; (ii) the presence of the bulkier t-Bu groups increases the cytotoxicity; (iii) the presence of a 2-methyl pyridine arm increases considerably the cytotoxicity; and (iv) the CuII-complexes are more cytotoxic than the VIVO-compounds. Complexes [VIVOL3(CH3OH)] (3), [CuL3(H2O)] (7) and [CuL5(H2O)] (8) were further evaluated and their mechanism of action was determined to be apoptosis, evidenced by AnnexinV staining and the increase in caspase 3/7 activity. Compounds 3, 7 and 8 also exhibit DNA cleavage activity, involving the formation of reactive oxygen species and were able to induce genomic damage in cells as determined by COMET assay. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Novel dibasic Schiff bases with three tridentate sites were obtained from the condensation of the triketone 2,4,6-triacetylphloroglucinol (H3ptk) with four different hydrazides, benzoyl hydrazide (bhz), furoyl hydrazide (fah), isonicotinoyl hydrazide (inh) and nicotinoyl hydrazide (nah): H6ptk(bhz)3I, H6ptk(fah)3II, H6ptk(inh)3III and H6ptk(nah)3IV. These ligand precursors I-IV, each being an ONO donor, are tricompartmental building blocks able to form trinuclear complexes having C3 symmetry. The reaction of I-IV with [VIVO(acac)2] leads to the formation of [{VIVO(H2O)}3(ptk(bhz)3)] 1, [{VIVO(H2O)}3(ptk(fah)3)] 2, [{VIVO(H2O)}3(ptk(inh)3)] 3, and [{VIVO(H2O)}3(ptk(nah)3)] 4. In methanol/aqueous solutions of M2CO3 (M+ = Na+, K+ and Cs+), these complexes are slowly converted into dioxidovanadium(v) compounds, namely, M3[(VVO2)3{ptk(bhz)3}]·6H2O [M+ = K+5, Na+9, Cs+13], M3[(VVO2)3{ptk(fah)3}]·6H2O [M+ = K+6, Na+10, Cs+14], M3[(VVO2)3{ptk(inh)3}]·6H2O [M+ = K+7, Na+11, Cs+15] and M3[(VVO2)3{ptk(nah)3}]·6H2O [M+ = K+8, Na+12, Cs+16]. All ligand precursors and complexes are characterized by various techniques such as FT-IR, UV/Visible, EPR, NMR (1H, 13C and 51V), elemental analysis, thermal studies, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and single-crystal X-ray analysis. X-ray diffraction studies of complexes K2.7[{(VVO2)3ptk(fah)3}]·11.5H2O·MeOH 6a, Cs3[{(VVO2)3ptk(bhz)3}]·7H2O 13a and Cs3[{(VVO2)3ptk(nah)3}]·7.3H2O 16a reveal their distorted square pyramidal geometry by coordinating through phenolate oxygen (of ptk), azomethine nitrogen and enolate oxygen (of hydrazide) atoms. The reactivity of complexes 5-16 and their catalytic potential were screened towards their peroxidase mimetic activity in the oxidation of dopamine to aminochrome driven by H2O2 as an oxidant. The conversion of dopamine to aminochrome with different catalysts was monitored by HPLC showing high activity under mild conditions with good conversions within 1 h. Kinetic studies using compounds 13-16 as catalyst precursors reveal that the reaction follows a Michaelis-Menten-like kinetics.

The tetradentate diaminobis(phenolato) “salan” ligand precursors, N,N′-bis-(2-hydroxy-3-iPr-5-Cl-6-Me-benzyl)-4-methylimidazolidine (H2L1) is synthesized. Reaction of H2L1 with MoO2(acac)2, FeCl3, VOSO4 and Ni(OAc)2, resulted in the formation of [MoO2(L1A)] (1), [(Fe(L1A))2(µ-Cl)(µ-OCH3)], (2), [(VO(L1A))2(µ-O)]·THF (3) and [Ni(L1A)] (4), wherein (L1A)2− resulted from the loss of the capping –CH2- moiety of H2L1 upon complex formation. However the capping –CH2- moiety between the two N-amine atoms is retained in the reaction of H2L1 with Ti(OiPr)4, resulting in formation of the dinuclear complex [(Ti(L1)(OiPr))2(µ-O)] (5). All compounds obtained are characterized by various physicochemical techniques (elemental analysis, IR, UV–Vis and NMR spectroscopy, and ESI-MS), and by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis in the case of complexes 1–3. The several factors relevant for the formation of the compounds, as well as cleavage or non-cleavage of the –CH2- bridge in the salan ligands, are elucidated with the help of DFT calculations.

Mais diminutas ainda, são as investigações sobre o uso de recursos digitais no contexto de ensino e aprendizagem do idioma para o público idoso. Diante desse quadro, este trabalho tem como principal objetivo refletir sobre as necessidades e especificidades de aprendizes de inglês de uma Universidade Aberta à Terceira idade, parceira de um Centro de Línguas, de uma universidade pública no interior do Estado de São Paulo. Já como objetivo específico, buscamos apresentar e avaliar uma proposta didática, aliada ao uso de recursos digitais, que aborde as necessidades e especificidades identificadas no público alvo. Para tanto, esta investigação, considerada uma pesquisa-ação, adota os seguintes instrumentos de coleta de dados: questionário semiestruturado, entrevista, gravada em áudio, e diários reflexivos elaborados pela professora-pesquisadora. A partir das informações coletadas, uma proposta didática é apresentada e avaliada, bem como os recursos digitais incorporados à sua implementação. Espera-se que os resultados das discussões e reflexões possam servir como contribuição ao acervo científico sobre o tema e, sobretudo, a professores e alunos envolvidos nesse contexto de ensino e aprendizagem. In current scientific scenario, there are few papers on the usage of didactic materials to teach and learn English for learners in the old age. There are fewer investigation papers on the usage of digital resources in the context of teaching and learning the language for the senior public. Given that condition, this paper’s main purpose is to reflect on the needs and specificities of students from a UNATI (Universidade Aberta à Terceira Idade), in partnership with a CEL (Centro de Ensino de Línguas), in a public university in the state of São Paulo. We also aim to present and evaluate a didactic proposal with the use of digital resources, which includes the needs and specificities identified on the target audience. Therefore, this investigation, which can be considered an action research, adopts the following instruments for collecting data: semi-structured questionnaire, audio recording interview and reflective journals, which were elaborated by the teacher-researcher. Based on the information collected, a didactic proposal is presented and evaluated, as well as the digital resources incorporated to its implementation. We hope the results emerged from the discussion and reflections on this paper can be a contribution to the scientific collection about the given subject, and above all, to teachers and students involved in this teaching and learning context. Since the discovery of cisplatin there has been a continuous pursuit for new metallodrugs showing higher efficacies and lower side effects. In this work, new copper(II) complexes (C1-C6) of Schiff bases derived from pyrazolyl were developed. Through condensation of 5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carbohydrazide with different aromatic aldehydes - pyridoxal, salicylaldehyde, 3-methoxy-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, 3-ethoxy-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 2-hydroxynaphthene-l-carbaldehyde a set of new pyrazole based "ONO" tridentate Schiff bases were obtained in moderate to good yields - L1-L6, as well as their Cu(II)-complexes. All compounds were characterized by analytical techniques and their molecular formulae established. The antioxidant potential of all compounds was tested, yielding low activity in most cases, with the exception of L1 and C5. The Cu(II) complexes were tested for their aqueous stability, and for their interaction with biological molecules, namely DNA and HSA (human serum albumin), through fluorescence quenching experiments (and electrophoresis for DNA). With the exception of C3, all the synthesized complexes were able to interact with DNA and HSA. Their cytotoxic activity against two cancer cell lines (MCF7 - breast and PC3 - prostate) was also evaluated. Complexes C5 and C6, with larger aromatic systems, showed much higher cytotoxicity (in the low mu M range), than C1-C4, as well as IC50 values much lower than cisplatin. For C6 the results suggest that the mechanisms of cell death do not seem to be mediated by apoptosis, through caspases 3/7 activation, but by involving membrane potential and imbalance in physiological elements such as P, K and Ca. Background: To overcome the hurdles of cisplatin, majorly its toxicity and resistance, there has been extensive search for alternative anti-cancer metal-based compounds. Here, three Cu(II)-complexes, Cu(Sal-Gly)(phen), Cu(Sal-Gly)(pheamine), Cu(Sal-Gly)(phepoxy) are characterized for their interaction with DNA, cytotoxicity and mechanism of action. Methods: The binding ability of the complexes to Calf-Thymus DNA was evaluated by competition fluorescence studies with thiazole-orange, UV-Vis and circular dichroism spectroscopic titrations. Cytotoxicity was evaluated by MTT analysis. The DNA damage was analyzed through cleavage of supercoiled DNA via agarose gel-electrophoresis, and 8-oxo-guanidine and gamma H2AX staining in cells. Apoptosis was detected via DNA condensation/fragmentation, mitochondrial membrane potential, Annexin V staining and caspase 3/7 activity. Formation of reactive oxygen species was determined by DCFDA- and GSSG/GSH-analysis. Results: Binding constants to DNA were evaluated as 1.7 x 10(6) (Cu(Sal-Gly)(phen)), 2.5 x 10(6) (Cu(Sal-Gly)(pheamine)) and 3.2 x 10(5) (Cu(Sal-Gly)(phepoxy)). All compounds induced DNA damage. Apoptosis was the main form of cell death. There was an increase in ROS, which is most likely responsible for the observed DNA-damage. Although the compounds were cytotoxic to all tested cancer cell lines, only Cu(Sal-Gly)(pheamine) displayed significantly lower toxicity towards non-cancer cells, its associated phenotypes differing from the other two Cu-complexes. Thus, Cu(Sal-Gly)(pheamine) was further assayed for molecular changes in response to drug treatment using a custom designed RT-qPCR array. Results showed that Harakiri was significantly upregulated. Presence of p53 was not required for apoptosis in response to Cu-complexes. Conclusions and general significance: These Cu-complexes, namely Cu(Sal-Gly)(pheamine), may be considered promising anticancer agents with activity in cancer cells even with deficient p53 status. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar qualitativamente, sob o ponto de vista epistemológico, das duas experiências pedagógicas à luz da teoria da zona de desenvolvimento proximal (ZDP) e da filosofia do movimento CTSA, tendo como foco a alfabetização científica (AC). Foram realizados dois projetos de extensão escolar orientados por temas sociocientíficos locais e regionais do Estado do Espírito Santo: Cineclube Escolar da Ciência e Jornal Escolar da Ciência. Esses projetos tiveram a participação de professores, alunos monitores da graduação e pesquisadores no campo da educação científica. Os resultados apontam para superação dos desafios da educação brasileira, sobretudo no estado do Espírito Santo, potencializando a alfabetização científica com enfoque CTSA a partir do uso de temas sociocientíficos e pedagogia de projeto.

Analisamosas questões pedagógicas do projeto Cineclube na Escola, realizado em uma escola pública do Espírito Santo - Brasil, à luz da pedagogia histórico-crítica com vistas na alfabetização científica dos alunos cineclubistas do ensino médio. Nossa análise foi baseada em Demerval Saviani, João Luiz Gasparin, António Cachapuze AtticoChassot. Durante o ano de 2012, foram exibidos filmes cinematográficos seguido de debates sobre questões da Ciência, Tecnologia, Sociedade e Ambiente. O projeto escolar com participação voluntária foi realizado extraclasse promoveu alfabetização científica a partir dos debates e conexões de conhecimentos científicos com os conteúdos programáticos normalmente trabalhados nas disciplinas regulares.

Three copper(II) complexes, Cu(Sal-Gly)(phen), Cu(Sal-Gly)pheamine, Cu(Sal-Gly)phepoxy were synthesized and characterized for their anticancer properties and mechanism of action (Acilan et al., in press) [1]. Here, we provide supporting data on colon cancer cell lines complementing our previous findings in cervix cells. This paper also contains a data table for the fold changes and p-values of all genes analyzed in this study via a custom RT-qPCR array. All compounds induced DNA damage (based on 8-oxo-guanidine, YH2AX staining in cells) and apoptosis (based on elevated DNA condensation/fragmentation, Annexin V staining, caspase 3/7 activity and mitochondrial membrane depolarization) in HCT-116 colon cancer cells. The increase in oxidative stress was also further confirmed in these cells.
