Recently, pipelines have replaced more carbon-intensive transportation methods making them more environmentally friendly for transporting energy and water supplies. However, pipelines can pollute the air, water, soil, and climate when they leak, causing economic, and environmental damage. Pipeline online monitoring provides data analysis and suitable controlling strategies to contain the risk. This paper proposes a three-dimensional numerical model simulation taking advantage of the fluids moving through pipelines at specific speeds. The transport speeds depend on many conditions, such as pipe diameter, the pressure through which the fluid is being transported, and other factors, such as terrain's topography and viscosity of the fluid. Under these conditions, the inspection approach uses a self-charging movable ball. The sensors inside the ball capture data as it travels through the pipe. The simulation focuses on spherical flow and pipe noise with and without leakage based on the COMSOL software platform. The paper shows the effect of several parameters, including leak location, sensor placement, ball diameter, sound pressure level propagation along a pipe and around the sphere, velocity, and temperature distribution that give the background for future smart ball design in a promising practical pipeline test project.

Due to the changing flow conditions during the pipeline’s operation, several locations of erosion, damage, and failure occur. Leak prevention and early leak detection techniques are the best pipeline risk mitigation measures. To reduce detection time, pipeline models that can simulate these breaches are essential. In this study, numerical modeling using COMSOL Multiphysics is suggested for different fluid types, velocities, pressure distributions, and temperature distributions. The system consists of 12 meters of 8-inch pipe. A movable ball with a diameter of 5 inches is placed within. The findings show that dead zones happen more often in oil than in gas. Pipe insulation is facilitated by the gas phase’s thermal inefficiency (thermal conductivity). The fluid mixing is improved by 2.5 m/s when the temperature is the lowest. More than water and gas, oil viscosity and dead zones lower maximum pressure. Pressure decreases with maximum velocity and vice versa. The acquired oil data set is utilized to calibrate the Support Vector Machine and Decision Tree techniques using MATLAB R2021a, ensuring the precision of the measurement. The classification result reveals that the Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Decision Tree (DT) models have the best average accuracy, which is 98.8%, and 99.87 %, respectively.

WiFi-based human activity and gesture recognition explore the interaction between the human hand or body movements and the reflected WiFi signals to identify various activities. This type of recognition has received much attention in recent years since it does not require wearing special sensors or installing cameras. This paper aims to investigate human activity and gesture recognition schemes that use Channel State Information (CSI) provided by WiFi devices. To achieve high accuracy in the measurement, deep learning models such as AlexNet, VGG 19, and SqueezeNet were used for classification and extracting features automatically. Firstly, outliers are removed from the amplitude of each CSI stream during the preprocessing stage by using the Hampel identifier algorithm. Next, the RGB images are created for each activity to feed as input to Deep Convolutional Neural Networks. After that, data augmentation is implemented to reduce the overfitting problems in deep learning models. Finally, the proposed method is evaluated on a publicly available dataset called WiAR, which contains 10 volunteers, each of whom executes 16 activities. The experiment results demonstrate that AlexNet, VGG19, and SqueezeNet all have high recognition accuracy of 99.17 %, 96.25%, and 100 %, respectively.

In this paper, a new method is proposed for people tracking using the human skeleton provided by the Kinect sensor, Our method is based on skeleton data, which includes the coordinate value of each joint in the human body. For data classification, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Random Forest techniques are used. To achieve this goal, 14 classes of movements are defined, using the Kinect Sensor to extract data containing 46 features and then using them to train the classification models. The system was tested on 12 subjects, each of whom performed 14 movements in each experiment. Experiment results show that the best average accuracy is 90.2 % for the SVM model and 99 % for the Random forest model. From the experiments, we concluded that the best distance between the Kinect sensor and the human body is one meter.

Rehabilitation and helping disable humans are critically important to ensuring the well-being of many people. Technologies that support that should be easy to use, low-cost, and highly robust. The goal of this paper is to explain the design of a completely soft exoskeleton glove for power augmentation and rehabilitation, based on new soft pneumatic actuators with variable stiffness. In this work, curved extensor and contraction pneumatic soft artificial muscles were used, which showed that these muscles are ideal for constructing the soft exoskeleton. This novel artificial muscles of variable stiffness were formed by combining the proposed bending soft actuators with the soft artificial muscle contraction. The proposed exoskeleton will perform multi-gripping and multi-pinching with movements of hook and table top grasp. This exoskeleton is designed to fit the size of an adult's hand without mechanical adjustment. Hand signals of electromyography (EMG) are tested for confirmation of the assistive force for the proposed prototype.

Measuring in-bed mobility is a very significant consideration when it comes to tracking patients or individuals during sleep. A variety of applications, such as sleep monitoring and unusual movements during sleep, can be enabled by observing a persons body movements throughout sleep. In-bed movement can be a sign of sleep disruption as it is associated with wakefulness that affects the quality of sleep and can be a sign of many illnesses. We introduce, in this study, an unobtrusive scheme for in-bed motion detection and classification using geophones sensor. Geophone can sense the vibration that caused by every in-bed movement. We have extracted two features from the sensed signal, which we named as Energy-Peak and Log-Peak. We, at that point, utilized a straightforward threshold-based calculation to identify each conceivable movement. In addition to movements detection, we further classify them as a big or small motion. We have assessed this framework by doing 30 tests with 15 members over a two-month. There are 35 movements in each experiment. By using our two primary approaches, Energy-Peak and Log-Peak, our system can identify in-bed motions with a 2% as a low error rate. For classification phase, we have extracted 4 features from every detected movement and we have used Random Forest technique for classification decision. Our system can classify every movement as big or small with 1.5% as an error rate.

In-bed motion detection is an important techniquethat can enable an array of applications, among which aresleep monitoring and abnormal movement detection. In thispaper, we present a low-cost, low-overhead, and highly robustsystem for in-bed movement detection and classification thatuses low-end load cells. By observing the forces sensed by theload cells, placed under each bed leg, we can detect manydifferent types of movements, and further classify them as bigor small depending on magnitude of the force changes on theload cells. We have designed three different features, whichwe refer to as Log-Peak, Energy-Peak, ZeroX-Valley, that caneffectively extract body movement signals from load cell datathat are collected through wireless links in an energy-efficientmanner. After establishing the feature values, we employ a simplethreshold-based algorithm to detect and classify movements. Wehave conducted thorough evaluation, that involves collecting datafrom 30 subjects who perform 27 pre-defined movements in anexperiment. By comparing our detection and classification resultsagainst the ground truth captured by a video camera, we showthe Log-Peak strategy can detect these 27 types of movementsat an error rate of 6.3% while classifying them to big or smallmovements at an error rate of 4.2%.
