In this report, TiN nanocrystalline thin films were deposited on glass and Ti-6Al-4V substrates using a DC-magnetron sputtering technique. The TiN films were sputtered using a pure Ti target (99.9%) with 40W of power in Ar/N2 gas mixture atmosphere. The structure of the TiN films was characterized by X-Ray diffraction, as prepared films exhibited a (200) preferred orientation, while film annealed at 500 °C shows the (111), (200) and (311). Polycrystalline, cubic, (111)-orientated TiN films were produced by annealing temperature of 500 °C. The effect of deposited temperature on the microstructural morphologies of the thin films was studied by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM). The particle size of the sputtered TiN films ranged from 50 to 70 nm and was strongly influenced by annealing temperatures, the morphology of the films deposited before and after annealing has a characteristic agglomeration of particles. Potentiodynamic polarization analysis of the TiN films confirms the inverse relationship between polarization resistance and corrosion current. The biocorrosion measurements for TiN films deposited on the Ti-6Al-4V substrate in 3.5% NaCl solution have also been obtained. Clear improvement in the corrosion resistance was observed rather than for untreated, especially for thermally annealed (500 oC) TiN/Ti-6Al-4V samples. The corrosion rate was 0.1458 mm/y for the uncoated sample, while 2.68510-4 mm/y for TiN/Ti-6Al-4V in samples after annealing. The average corrosion potential calculated was - 0.117 V. The results confirmed that coated alloys with 500 °C thermally treated exhibited a better electrochemical behavior compare with uncoated and non-thermally treated alloys possibly due to the better cohesion degree of the coatings.

Films of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) were successfully deposited on glass substrates using blade technique in 5 min annealing time. The effect of heating temperature on the structural properties was investigated. The dithiocarbamates complexes of copper, zinc and tin were used as precursors through the blade technique. The films were kesterite phase and oriented preferentially along (112) direction. The chemical compositions at each temperature were studied in order to optimize the film stoichiometry. Cu/(Zn + Sn) ratio was between 0.815 and 0.877, and Zn/Sn was in the range of 0.93 to 1.

A series of new thiourea based carboxylic acids (Ia-Ie) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR and NMR (1 H and 13C) spectroscopy. They were preliminary bioassayed for their antibacterial, anifungal and urease inhibition activities. Molecular docking simulations were carried out to determine the probable binding mode of the synthesized compounds. The bioassay results showed that some of titled compounds exhibited encouraging results.

Polycrystalline thin films of molybdenum-doped rhenium disulphide (Mo-doped ReS2) alloys were synthesised by aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition (AACVD) using precursor solutions containing (1) [Re(S2CC6H5)(S3CC6H5)2], and (2) [Mo(S2CNEt2)4]. Synthesised thin films were characterised using powder X-Ray diffraction (p-XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and energy dispersive X-Ray (EDX). The p-XRD shows that interlayer spacing increases with increasing Mo content in the ReS2 matrix, and (001) plane becomes broad and weak as the molybdenum increases in the doped films. The destruction of the vibrational modes of ReS2 on increasing the Mo content and a clear shift in the Eg vibrational and Ag-like modes were also observed by Raman analysis. The presence of Mo in the ReS2 matrix was detected by ICP-OES. It was observed that the Mo content in the final material was 7.61 at% compared to the initial feed of 15 at%. The SEM images of the doped alloy films revealed nano crystal morphology, and the morphology changed when there was an increase in the Mo portion into the ReS2 crystal structure.

Five new substituted benzamide derivatives as ionic solids are prepared and characterized by FT-IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The crystal structure for compound 2 is determined by X-ray crystallography. The compounds are bio-assayed for their bactericidal, fungicidal, anti-oxidant, and urease inhibition activities. The molecular docking results accumulated for the compounds correlate with their biological activity and reveal high binding affinity towards jack bean urease.

Thin films of nanometer sized cadmium sulfide were directly prepared by aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition (AA-CVD) method, cadmium ethyl xanthate complex was used as precursor material at 225 oC, 250 oC and 275 oC. The thermal decomposition of complex was characterized by thermal analysis, (thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)). The prepared CdS thin films have been characterized by XRD and SEM- EDX analysis. TGA curves ensured that the rapid decomposition of [Cd(S2COEt)2] gives a CdS in single step between 150 oC and 200 oC. XRD patterns confirmed that the CdS particles crystalized as a hexagonal crystallographic phase at low temperatures. The grain size of particles increased with increasing the preparation temperatures from 225 oC to 275 oC,. The spherical CdS nanoparticals were observed in SEM analysis.

Six new organotin(IV) derivatives [Me3SnL1] ( 1 ), [Bu3SnL1] ( 2 ), [Ph3SnL1] ( 3 ), [Me3SnL2] ( 4 ), [Bu3SnL2] ( 5 ) and [Ph3SnL2] ( 6 ) (where HL1 = = 9-fluoro-6,7-dihydro-5-methyl-1-oxo-1 H ,5 H -pyrido[3,2,1- ij ]quinoline-2-car­bo­xylic acid (flumequine) and HL2 = 2-[2-[4-[(4-chlorophenyl)phenyl­methyl]- -1-piperazinyl]ethoxy] acetic acid (cetirizine)) were synthesized and charac­ter­ized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, multinuclear 1H-, 13C- and 119Sn-NMR, mass spectrometry and thermal analysis techniques. The obtained data reveal trigonal-bipyramidal geometry in case of complexes 1 , 2 , 4 and 5 , and tetrahedral geometry for complexes 3 and 6 around the tin atom, whereas in complexes 3 and 6 the carboxylate ligand act as monodentate ligand through one of its oxygen atoms while it acts as bidentate ligand through two oxygen atoms for complexes 1 , 2 , 4 and 5 . The antibacterial and antifungal efficacies of complexes 1 – 6 were assessed and the majority of the compounds showed good activities. The present research showed that the trimethyltin(IV) derivat­ives were particularly more effective than tributyltin(IV) and triphenyltin(IV) derivatives against all the bacterial and fungal strains. Antioxidant and DNA binding studies were also performed and promising results were obtained.

We report the synthesis and single-crystal X-ray characterization of diphenyltin bis(2-methoxyethylxanthate) and diphenyltin bis(iso-butylxanthate). These xanthates have been used as a single-source precursor to deposit tin chalcogenide thin films by aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition. Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction and scanning transmission electron microscope imaging coupled with elemental mapping show that films deposited from diphenyltin bis(iso-butylxanthate) contain orthorhombic SnS, while films deposited from diphenyltin bis(2-methoxyethylxanthate) between 400 and 575 °C form a SnS/SnO2 nanocomposite. In synthesizing the thin films, we have also demonstrated an ability to control the band gap of the materials based on composition and deposition temperature.

The green synthetic route for the synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticles has received special attention recently due to its features, such as low cost and environmental friendliness. The (Z)-2-(pyrrolidin-2-ylidene)thiourea was used as a ligand and allowed to react with zinc acetate to form the ZnS nanoparticles through the homogeneous precipitation method. The polyvinyl pyrrolidone and polyethylene glycol were employed as capping agents, whereas the ammonium solution was used as an activator for the stabilizers. The effects of the concentration of the capping agents on ZnS nanoparticles were investigated. The poly ethylene glycol (PEG)- or (polyvinylpyrollidone) PVP-capped zinc sulfide nanoparticles were then incorporated with polydadmac to form the polymer nanocomposites. The results from various sophisticated instruments, such as spectrophotometer (UV-Vis), photoluminescence (PL), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), reveal that the concentrations of capping agents and ammonium solution has great effects on nanomaterials.

Tin(II)O-ethylxanthate [Sn(S2COEt)2] was prepared and used as a single-source precursor for the deposition of SnS thin films by a melt method. Polycrystalline, (111)-orientated, orthorhombic SnS films with controllable elemental stoichiometries (of between Sn1.3S and SnS) were reliably produced by selecting heating temperatures between 200 and 400 °C. The direct optical band gaps of the SnS films ranged from 1.26 to 1.88 eV and were strongly influenced by its Sn/S ratio. The precursor [Sn(S2COEt)2] was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The as-prepared SnS films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffractometry, Raman spectroscopy, and UV–Vis spectroscopy.

Kesterite, Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS), is a promising absorber layer for use in photovoltaic cells. We report the use of copper, zinc and tin xanthates in melt reactions to produce Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films. We present a simple, easily scalable route to monodisperse copper sulfide nanocrystals by the hot-injection of a series of novel copper(I) xanthate single-source precursors [(PPh3)2Cu(S2COR)] (R = iso-butyl, 2-methoxyethyl, 2-ethoxyethyl, 1-methoxy-2-propyl, 3-methoxy-1-butyl and 3-methoxy-3-methyl-1-butyl), whose crystal structures are also reported. We show that the width of the obtained rods is dependent on the length of the xanthate chain, which we rationalize through a computational study - where we show that there is a relationship between the ground state energy of the precursor and the copper sulfide rod width.

Simple, rapid, cheap and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been described for the determination of zinc in pharmaceutical samples. The method is based on the formation of zinc- 8-Hydroxy quinoline chelate, the maximum absorption (lmax) at 384 nm. The method obeyed Beer's law in the range 1-5 mg/mL and the corresponding molar absorptivity value is 0.01578 ´ 103 L.mol-1.cm-1. The Sandell sensitivity values of limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) was 0.381mg/mL and 1.156 mg/mL respectively. The recovery percentage of zinc was found 98.00 %, 98.96 %,99.91%, 97.50%, 98.5% and 99.30 % for (Capsule-13 mg), (Tablet-20 mg), (Tablet-40 mg),(Capsule-50 mg), (Capsule-50 mg) and (insulin vial-0.025 mg) respectively. All variable parameters has been optimized according to ICH guidelines. The limiting concentrations of some cations for interference by Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II),Sn(II) ,Pb(II), Mg(II), Ca(II) and Ba(II) are reported. The method accuracy was established by comparison with conventional flame atomic absorption spectrometric method by using t-test, ttab.= 2.571, tcal. =0.3231 at 95% confidence level, indicating the absence of systematic errors.
