Background/aims The effects of strengthening exercises in patients with Hirayama disease are not well documented. This case study examined the effect of strengthening exercises on hand functions in a patient with Hirayama disease. Methods An 18-year-old man with weakness in the right hand was given a hand-function strengthening programme consisting of 40 minutes of exercises, which were performed 5 days a week over an 8-week period. The patient used theraputty, a gel ball, finger dexterity board, gym kit and hand grip exerciser. The effects of the programme were evaluated using manual muscle testing, a hand-held dynamometer, pinchometer and the Minnesota Manual Dexterity Test. results The patient's manual muscle testing grades improved following the strengthening programme. Results from the Dynamometer, pinchometer and Minnesota Manual Dexterity Test objectively exhibited increased muscle strength and improved hand functions. Conclusions Strengthening exercises are effective in alleviating muscle weakness and improving hand functions associated with Hirayama disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Milk shake was prepared from different proportions of buffalo milk and custard apple pulp i.e. 100:0 (T0), 90:10 (T1), 85:15 (T2) and 80:20 (T3). The sensory score for overall acceptability of custard apple milk shake of treatments T0, T1, T2 and T3 were 8.28, 8.51, 8.26 and 7.88, respectively. It was observed that the custard apple milk shake prepared from 90 parts of buffalo milk and 10 parts of custard apple pulp was most acceptable and ranked between like very much to like extremely. Haemangiomas of adrenal gland are rare, non-functioning benign tumours with less than 100 cases documented in literature. They are difficult to diagnose preoperatively and are often clinically mistaken for other benign adrenal lesions like myelolipoma, ganglioneuroma and non-functional pheochromocytoma. We report a case of a 38-year-old male with haemangioma of the adrenal gland which presented exclusively with pain in the right side of the abdomen.

In this paper we have studied the Kantowski- Sachs cosmological model with the quark and strange quark matter in the f (R) theory of gravity. The general solutions of the field equations are obtained by assuming the physical condition shear scalar σ is proportional to scalar expansion θ, which leads to the relation B = An between metric coefficients B and A. The physical and geometrical aspects of the model are also discussed.

Microneedle (MN) technology has emerged as a promising approach for delivering therapeutic agents to the skin, offering significant potential in treating various dermal conditions. Among these technologies, hydrogel-forming microneedles (HFMNs) represent a transformative advancement in the management of dermal diseases through non-invasive drug delivery. These innovative devices consist of micrometer-sized needles made of native or crosslinked hydrophilic polymers, capable of penetrating the stratum corneum without damaging underlying tissues. Upon insertion, HFMNs rapidly absorb interstitial fluid, swelling to form a hydrogel conduit that enables the efficient transport of therapeutic agents directly into the dermal microcirculation. The non-invasive nature of HFMNs enhances patient compliance by eliminating the pain and discomfort associated with traditional hypodermic needles. This technology allows for the delivery of a wide range of drugs, including macromolecules and biomacromolecules, which are often difficult to administer dermally due to their size and polarity. Moreover, HFMNs provide controlled and regulated release profiles, enabling sustained therapeutic effects while minimizing systemic side effects. Additionally, HFMNs can be used for both drug delivery and real-time interstitial fluid monitoring, offering valuable insights into disease states and treatment responses. This dual functionality positions HFMNs as a versatile dermatology tool capable of effectively addressing various dermal complications. This review explores the potential use of polymeric biomaterials in HFMN fabrication and their application in treating major dermal disorders, such as acne, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. Furthermore, the review highlights the non-invasive nature of MN-based treatments, underscoring their potential to reduce patient discomfort and improve treatment adherence, as supported by the recent literature.

These cells, capable of either suppressing or promoting tumors across diverse experimental models, have been a focal point in the exploration of exosome-based therapies. Exosomes released by MSCs have played a pivotal role, in unraveling the nuances of paracrine signaling and its profound impact on cancer development. Recent studies have revealed the complex nature of MSC-derived exosomes, showcasing both pro-tumor and anti-tumor effects. Despite their multifaceted involvement in tumor growth, these exosomes show significant promise in influencing both tumor development and chemosensitivity, acting as a pivotal factor that increases stem cells' potential for medicinal use. Endogenous MSCs, primarily originating from the bone marrow, exhibited a unique migratory response to damaged tissue sites. The genetic modification of stem cells, including MSCs, opened avenues for the precise delivery of therapeutic payloads in the milieu around the tumor (TME). Stem cell therapy offers groundbreaking potential for treating neurodegenerative and autoimmune disorders by regenerating damaged tissues and modulating immune responses. This approach aims to restore lost function and promote healing through targeted cellular interventions. The subsequent sections intricately examine iPSC-derived cell therapy, unravelling the diverse derivatives of iPSCs and striking a delicate balance between advantages and limitations in therapeutic applications. Mechanisms of action, revealing how iPSC-derived cells seamlessly integrate into tissues, induce regeneration, and contribute to disease modeling and drug screening advancements is discussed. Challenges and concerns, including the risk of tumorigenesis and scalability issues, are explored. The main objective of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence regarding the use of chitosan-based hydrogels to manage skin infections. Chitosan, a naturally occurring polysaccharide derived from chitin, possesses inherent antimicrobial properties, making it a promising candidate for treating various dermal infections. This review follows a systematic approach to analyze relevant studies that have investigated the effectiveness of chitosan-based hydrogels in the context of dermal infections. By examining the available evidence, this review aims to evaluate these hydrogels' overall efficacy, safety, and potential applications for managing dermal infections. This review's primary focus is to gather and analyze data from different recent studies about chitosan-based hydrogels combating dermal infections; this includes assessing their ability to inhibit the growth of microorganisms and reduce infection-related symptoms. Furthermore, this review also considers the safety profile of chitosan-based hydrogels, examining any potential adverse effects associated with their use. This evaluation is crucial to ensure that these hydrogels can be safely utilized in the management of dermal infections without causing harm to patients. The review aims to provide healthcare professionals and researchers with a comprehensive understanding of the current evidence regarding the use of chitosan-based hydrogels for dermal infection management. Chito-oligosaccharides (COS), derived from chitosan (CH), are attracting increasing attention as drug delivery carriers due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mucoadhesive properties. Grafting, the process of chemically modifying CH/COS by adding side chains, has been used to improve their drug delivery performance by enhancing their stability, targeted delivery, and controlled release. In this review, we aim to provide an in-depth study on the recent advances in the grafting of CH/COS for multifarious applications. Moreover, the various strategies and techniques used for grafting, including chemical modification, enzymatic modification, and physical modification, are elaborated. The properties of grafted CH/COS, such as stability, solubility, and biocompatibility, were reported. Additionally, the review detailed the various applications of grafted CH/COS in drug delivery, including the delivery of small drug molecule, proteins, and RNA interference therapeutics. Furthermore, the effectiveness of grafted CH/COS in improving the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs was included. Finally, the challenges and limitations associated with the use of grafted CH/COS for drug delivery and outline directions for future research are addressed. This study was conducted to examine, at the county level, the relationship between pediatric cancer incidence rate and atrazine and nitrate mean concentrations in surface and groundwater. A negative binomial regression analysis was performed to investigate the association between central nervous system (CNS) tumors, leukemia, lymphoma, and atrazine and nitrate mean concentrations in groundwater. The age-adjusted brain and other CNS cancer incidence was higher than the national average in 63% of the Nebraska counties. After controlling for the counties socio-economic status and nitrate concentrations in groundwater, counties with groundwater atrazine concentrations above 0.0002 µg/L had a higher incidence rate for pediatric cancers (brain and other CNS, leukemia, and lymphoma) compared to counties with groundwater atrazine concentrations in the reference group (0.0000-0.0002 µg/L). Additionally, compared to counties with groundwater nitrate concentrations between 0 and 2 mg/L (reference group), counties with groundwater nitrate concentrations between 2.1 and 5 mg/L (group 2) had a higher incidence rate for pediatric brain and other CNS cancers (IRR = 8.39; 95% CI: 8.24-8.54), leukemia (IRR = 7.35; 95% CI: 7.22-7.48), and lymphoma (IRR = 5.59; CI: 5.48-5.69) after adjusting for atrazine groundwater concentration and the county socio-economic status. While these findings do not indicate a causal relationship, because other contaminants or cancer risk factors have not been accounted for, they suggest that atrazine and nitrate may pose a risk relative to the genesis of pediatric brain and CNS cancers, leukemia, and lymphoma., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflicts of interest relevant to this study., (© 2022 The Authors.
