Abstract: Aim: This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis and scientometric evaluation of the top 100 most cited publications in the field of implant prosthodontics, authored by individuals affiliated with nations of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Materials and Methods: In October 2023, the 100 most cited articles were gathered from the Web of Science database using the bibliometric research technique. The analysis was conducted on bibliometric indicators, including the distribution of articles over time, authorship, design of study, field of study, nature of research, contribution from various countries in MENA, international research collaboration, and most frequently used keywords by authors. Chi-square and one-way analysis of variance were used for statistical analysis. VOSviewer software was used to analyze the bibliometric network for co-occurrence among countries, coauthors, and common keywords. Results: The results revealed that the top 100 most cited articles from MENA countries on the topic of implant prosthodontics, published between 1995 and 2020, had received an average of 73.31 citations each. About one-third of the papers were published in the top 4 journals. The journal with the most published articles was Clinical Oral Implant Research, followed by the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants , the International Journal of Prosthodontics , and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Saudi Arabia had the distinction of producing the greatest number of highly cited papers. The co-occurrence network analysis using VOSviewer software identified 10–15 related clusters. Research studies with multiple authors received significantly more citations (P < 0.05). Significant relationships were observed between the number of citations and journal type (open access vs. non-open access; P < 0.05), and also articles published in dental journals received the most citations and were statistically significant (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Over the last decade, there has been a significant surge in research related to implant prosthodontics. Among the countries in the MENA region, Saudi Arabia has distinguished itself by leading in terms of overall research output. This resource would benefit academicians, clinicians, and researchers in prosthodontics, oral surgery, and periodontic specialties of dentistry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to review the role of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and ACPbased products in remineralization of enamel and dentin. An automated search was conducted for articles and data published on ACP-based remineralization systems. References of the selected articles were also searched manually for related articles. In the present study, the focus was placed on in-vitro studies on ACP-based remineralization systems published from 2011 to 2020. Out of the 600 articles, 11 articles were found to be suitable for our systematic review. These articles were analysed and together proved that ACP is a promising non - fluoride-based remineralizing agent, which furthermore can be combined with organic molecules, polymers, proteins, and ions for enhancing its stability and its remineralizing effect. ACP readily dissolves in saliva and acts as a reservoir of calcium and phosphate ions which are taken up by demineralized tissues; induce remineralization and balance the pH of the oral cavity. ACP is turning out to be more and more essential in dentistry. It remineralizes enamel and dentin better than crystalline calcium phosphates, and the new mineral deposit is similar in structure and composition to the dental tissues. It is considered that ACP will be put into use even more comprehensively soon due to the rapid growth of tissue engineering and applied material science. However, more long-term clinical studies are essential to compare the remineralization efficacy of ACP compared to other remineralizing systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fluoride is undoubtedly one of the greatest inventions of dentistry. Its role in the prevention of dental caries is very well established but its role in prevention and control of periodontal disease is obscure. Many epidemiological studies comparing the periodontal status between high fluoride and low fluoride have produced an inconsistent and non-confirmative data. This article comprehensively reviews the available literature regarding the systemic and topical effect of fluorides on gingival and periodontal health. To present an overview the process consisted of research of Pubmed database for the papers published related to fluorides and periodontal health. A total of 31 articles were selected for final reviewing. The data on effect of natural, systemic and topical fluoride on plaque, gingival health and periodontal health was pooled and results from these studies are categorized into neutral effect, positive effect and adverse effect of fluorides on periodontium. From the available data the precise role of fluoride on periodontal health cannot be drawn. Most of the research results are in favor of either no effect or slightly beneficial effect of fluoride on periodontal health. The adverse effects as reported in few of the studies cannot be under-estimated. Most of the study designs are limited to comparison of periodontal status in high and low fluoride areas. More studies aiming to assess the microbial effect of fluoride on plaque are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dens evaginatus is a rare developmental anomaly characterized by the presence of extra cusp like projection from the occlusal surface of an affected tooth commonly seen on premolars. This study reports an unusual case of a 26-year-old female with projections from the mesial and distal surface of maxillary second premolar, a finding that has previously not been reported. Background: As per many studies endodontically treated teeth are widely considered to be more susceptible to fracture than vital teeth. Obturation strains and post placement have been a major cause of vertical root fracture. Present study was conducted to compare in vitro fracture resistance after filling with either Gutta-percha or Resilon by lateral condensation techniques in root canals. This study evaluated a new thermoplastic synthetic polymer based on polyester, which contains bioactive and radiopaque filler, Resilon performs every way as Gutta-percha except that it allows the bonding agent to attach to the resin core and the dentin wall thus forming a monoblock., Materials and Methods: In the present study 90 freshly extracted single-rooted human mandibular premolar teeth endodontically treated, were cut at the cemento-enamel junction, and were randomly divided into three groups of 30 each as teeth of Group A (Control) received no obturation, Group B teeth were obturated using Gutta-percha/AH26, and Group C teeth were obturated using Resilon/Epiphany obturating kit. Each specimen were mounted in acrylic in a polyvinyl ring and then tested for fracture resistance with the help of an universal testing machine. A compressive force was applied until the root is fractured. The data were subjected to analysis of variance for comparing mean difference of fracture resistance among three groups. Multiple comparisons among these groups were carried out by non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis analysis. A p value of <0.0001 was considered a statistically significant difference., Results: The results obtain after analysis showed no significant differences in the fracture resistance between the two tested groups of endodontic sealers., Conclusion: Within the limitation of the present in-vitro study, Resilon/Epiphany sealer performs better than Gutta-percha/AH 26 sealer with lateral condensation technique.
