This is an exercise to explore the concentration of lithium, lithium-7 isotope and the possible presence of black dirty ice on the lunar surface using spectral data obtained from the Clementine mission. The main interest in tracing the lithium and presence of dark ice on the lunar surface is closely related to future human settlement missions on the moon. We investigate the distribution of lithium and 7 Li isotope on the lunar surface by employing spectral data from the Clementine images. We utilized visible (VIS–NIR) imagery at wavelengths of 450, 750, 900, 950 and 1000 nm, along with near-infrared (NIR–SWIR) at 1100, 1250, 1500, 2000, 2600 and 2780 nm, encompassing 11 bands in total. This dataset offers a comprehensive coverage of about 80% of the lunar surface, with resolutions ranging from 100 to 500 m, spanning latitudes from 80°S to 80°N. In order to extract quantitative abundance of lithium, ground-truth sites were used to calibrate the Clementine images. Samples (specifically, 12045, 15058, 15475, 15555, 62255, 70035, 74220 and 75075) returned from Apollo missions 12, 15, 16 and 17 have been correlated to the Clementine VIS–NIR bands and five spectral ratios. The five spectral ratios calculated synthesize the main spectral features of sample spectra that were grouped by their lithium and 7 Li content using Principal Component Analysis. The ratios spectrally characterize substrates of anorthosite, silica-rich basalts, olivine-rich basalts, high-Ti mare basalts and Orange and Glasses soils. Our findings reveal a strong linear correlation between the spectral parameters and the lithium content in the eight Apollo samples. With the values of the 11 Clementine bands and the 5 spectral ratios, we performed linear regression models to estimate the concentration of lithium and 7 Li. Also, we calculated Digital Terrain Models (Altitude, Slope, Aspect, DirectInsolation and WindExposition) from LOLA-DTM to discover relations between relief and spatial distribution of the extended models of lithium and 7 Li. The analysis was conducted in a mask polygon around the Apollo 15 landing site. This analysis seeks to uncover potential 7 Li enrichment through spallation processes, influenced by varying exposure to solar wind. To explore the possibility of finding ice mixed with regolith (often referred to as 'black ice'), we extended results to the entire Clementine coverage spectral indices, calculated with a library (350–2500 nm) of ice samples contaminated with various concentrations of volcanic particles. The increasing demand for energy-efficient and sustainable solutions in the building sector has driven the need for innovative approaches that integrate renewable energy sources and advanced control systems. This paper presents an integrated energy management solution for solar-powered smart buildings, combining a multifaceted physical system with advanced IoT- and cloud-based control systems. The physical system includes a heat pump, photovoltaics, solar thermal panels, and an innovative low-enthalpy radiant wall and ceiling, providing self-sufficient heating and cooling. The control system makes use of advanced IoT and communication engineering technologies, using Modbus, HTTP, and MQTT protocols for seamless interconnectivity, monitoring, and remote management. The successful implementation of this solution in an average-sized model house in Paris and a deep energy retrofit of a semidetached single-family house in Oviedo, northern Spain, demonstrates increased energy efficiency, improved thermal comfort, and reduced environmental impact compared with conventional alternatives. This study illustrates the potential of integrating solar energy, IoT, and communication technologies into smart buildings, contributing to the global effort to reduce the environmental impact of the building sector. In this paper, a noninvasive portable prototype is presented for biomedical audio signal processing. The proposed prototype is suitable for monitoring the health of patients. The proposed hardware setup consists of a cost-effective microphone, multipurpose microcontroller and computing node that could be a mobile phone or general-purpose computer. Using parallel and high-performance techniques, this setup allows one to register and wirelessly multicast the recorded biomedical signals to computing nodes in real time. The developed prototype was used as a case study to estimate the heart rate (HR) from the captured biomedical audio signal. In this regard, the developed algorithm for estimating HR comprises three stages: preprocessing, separation, and HR estimation. In the first stage, the signal captured by the microphone is adapted for processing. Subsequently, a separation stage was proposed to alleviate the acoustic interference between the lungs and heart. The separation is performed by combining a non-negative matrix factorization algorithm, clustering approach, and soft-filter strategy. Finally, HR estimation was obtained using a novel and efficient method based on the autocorrelation function. The developed prototype could be used not only for the estimation of the HR, but also for the retrieval of other biomedical information related to the recording of cardiac or respiratory audio signals. The proposed method was evaluated using well-known datasets and compared with state-of-the-art algorithms for source-separation. The results showed that it is possible to obtain an accurate separation and reliable real-time estimation in terms of source separation metrics and relative error in the tested scenarios by combining multi-core architectures with parallel and high-performance techniques. The retrogenesis model states that the progression of brain aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD) deterioration proceeds inversely to human ontogenic acquisition patterns. Our aim was to assess if the progressive decline of cognitive abilities and functional capacity in AD follows an inverse sequence of acquisition compared to normal developmental patterns. One hundred eighty one children ranging in age from 4 to 12 years and 148 adults (cognitively normal, subjects with mild cognitive impairment, and mild-moderately severe AD) were assessed with the same cognitive and functional tools. The statistical analyses showed a progressive and inverse distribution on cognitive, functional, and mental age scores when comparing results of children classified by chronological age and patients by dementia staging. The pattern of cognitive acquisition in children showed a progressive development of overall cognitive function along all age ranges, in addition to a simultaneous acquisition of instrumental and basic daily living activities in the functional domain. AD patients showed a progressive decline in cognitive and functional domains, which concurs with the sequence of impairment reported in this dementia. Our findings provide support to the inverse and progressive pattern of functional and cognitive decline observed in AD patients compared to the developmental acquisition of these capacities in children, as stated by the retrogenesis model. Nonetheless, certain differences should be considered when comparing the sequence of acquisition during ontogenic development with that of progressive loss during the course of AD. A technological purification procedure for obtaining a Cuban activated carbon is described. Characteristics of the obtained charcoal are similar to those corresponding to imported materials according to the following standards: United States Pharmacopeia 30, British Pharmacopeia (BP) and the Cuban National Standards. Results obtained during purification of Cuban activated carbon (M1) were compared with two imported materials as reference: USPXX Norit and RPCh. The first of these materials have been used during more than 20 years in the Cuban National Health System in cases of medical poisoning and as raw material in the preparation of coal and pepsin tablets for digestive disorders. Besides, the following comparative aspects were considered: physical chemical characterization, atomic absorption and ACP -AES analysis and specific adsorption: iodine number, molasses percent, methylene blue and strychnine. Technological procedure consists mainly of an acid leaching-base without heating, including filtration stages and very simple washings waters, as also recirculation of liquors of the process. Comparison results were statistically processed by a multiple range test and differences obtained were not significant (α = 0,05 %). It is an indication of the effectiveness of the purification procedure. Economic feasibility study offers favourable results in the indexes considered: NPV, IRR, EE, ROI, estimated price and production cost. All these results as a whole support the possibility of having in Cuba with a process and as a result of it, with a material of sufficient quality to replace imports in the short term.
