This case report describes the presentation and management of a 12-year-old female patient with a tissue mass and spacing between her upper front teeth. Clinical examination revealed a reddish pink, lobulated tissue mass measuring approximately 1.5 cm × 2 cm, extending from the upper labial frenum to the incisive papilla and involving the interdental gingiva of the two central incisors. The mass was moderately firm, pedunculated, and prone to bleeding. The patient had poor oral hygiene, exacerbating the condition. Radiographic evaluation ruled out underlying bony lesions, leading to a provisional diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma with differential diagnoses of gingival fibroma or traumatic fibroma. The treatment plan involved excision of the gingival overgrowth and frenectomy. Following routine oral prophylaxis, the surgical procedure was performed, with the excised tissue sent for histopathological evaluation, confirming the diagnosis as pyogenic granuloma. Postoperative care was provided, and the patient was advised against active orthodontic treatment. Regular follow-up appointments were scheduled to monitor healing and spontaneous space closure. This case report underscores the significance of considering both the aberrant labial frenum and the gingival overgrowth in treatment planning and highlights the need for meticulous follow-up care. Introduction: Understanding the intricate root canal system of mandibular incisors is crucial for successful root canal therapy. Variations in canal anatomy pose challenges in diagnosis and treatment planning, emphasising the need for comprehensive evaluation methods. Aim: To evaluate and assess the root canal configuration of permanent mandibular incisors based on Vertucci’s classification using periapical radiographs and correlating the same with the gold standard decalcification and dye-penetration technique. Materials and Methods: The current in-vitro study was carried out from December 2018 to March 2019 in the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and Hospital, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It analysed the root canal morphology of mandibular central and lateral incisors using radiographic examination and decalcificationdye penetration evaluation. Data from 50 central and 50 lateral incisors (100 mandibular incisors) were procured and were assessed and subsequently analysed statistically using International Business Machines (IBM) Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Statistics for Windows, Version 27.0 (Armonk, NY: IBM Corp). The study outcome included assessing the various canal types and configurations, types of canals (straight/curved), and the position of the apical foramen (labial/ lingual) by both techniques. The existence of agreement was also tested using statistical analysis by the kappa (κ) coefficient between the two techniques with an alpha level of 5%. Results: The radiological findings of mandibular central incisors revealed a predominant presence of Type-I canals, constituting 66 (66%) cases, according to Vertucci’s classification. Decalcificationdye penetration evaluation of central incisors showed a similar trend, with Type-I canals exhibiting a significantly higher percentage 35 (70%) compared to other canal types (p<0.001). Lateral incisors exhibited similar trends in both radiological findings and decalcification-dye penetration. Type-I canals were significantly more prevalent 29 (58%) compared to other types (p<0.001). Evaluation with the decalcification-dye penetration technique further supported this, with Type-I canals showing a higher percentage 27 (54%) compared to other types (p<0.001). A moderate amount of agreement was detected between the two modalities concerning canal configuration (κ=0.46, p=0.049) and position of the apical foramen (κ=0.43, p<0.001), while an almost perfect agreement was present on canal curvature (κ=0.85, p<0.001). Conclusion: These results collectively suggest a similarity in the radiological characteristics and decalcification-dye penetration patterns between central and lateral incisors. Introduction and aim. This study aims to assess caries experience in children with cleft lip and palate (CLP). Material and methods. A total of 127 children (aged 3-12 years) with CLP and 141 non-cleft controls were assessed for dental caries using the decayed-extracted/missing-filled teeth (deft/DMFT) index. Logistic regression analysis was employed to identify factors associated with dental caries. Statistical tests, including t-test, ANOVA, Chi-square, and Fisher's exact test, were used to analyze differences between cleft and non-cleft populations. Results. In primary teeth, caries prevalence was significantly higher in children with CLP (63.8%) compared to non-cleft controls (40.4%, p<0.001). The deft scores were 3.30 for CLP and 1.63 for non-CLP group (p<0.01). No significant difference was observed in mean DMFT scores (p=0.02). Significant variations in caries prevalence (p=0.01) and mean DMFT values (p=0.001) were noted in permanent dentition among different cleft groups. Conclusion. Children with CLP show higher caries prevalence and experience, emphasizing the need for targeted dental care interventions in this population. The effect of MgO grain size on the permanent linear change behavior of resin bonded alumina-magnesia-carbon refractory has been studied in relation to the formation of spinel phase in these refractories as a function of firing time and temperature. From scanning electron microscopic studies, spinelization at the interface of Al2O3 and MgO grains has also been studied to determine the reaction kinetics for gaining insight into the process. Failure of eruption of multiple permanent teeth is uncommon. This may be attributed to some local and systemic factors. In general, systemic factors are responsible for eruption failure of multiple teeth whereas the local causes tend to affect one or few teeth.
