Recent theoretical and practical research has focused on multi-component High Entropy Alloys (HEAs), which have superior mechanical and functional properties than standard alloys based on a single major element, thereby establishing a new field. A multi-component HEA contains five or more primary elements at concentrations ranging from 5 to 35 atomic percent. We examined the microstructure and mechanical properties of TiVCoNiMn2 HEA. The mixing enthalpy and other thermodynamic parameters were determined using Meidma's model. TiVCoNiMn2 exhibits a mixing enthalpy of -15.6 kJ/mol and an atomic radius mismatch of approximately 10.03%. HEA is derived from both hydride and non-hydride-producing elements. Magnesium hydride (MgH2) is the mostly used material for solid-state hydrogen storage. However, their slow kinetics and highly unfavorable thermodynamics make them unsuitable for the practical applications. The current study describes the unusual catalytic action of a new class of catalyst, a high-entropy alloy (HEA) of Al20Cr16Mn16Fe16Co16Ni16, on the de/re-hydrogenation properties of MgH2. The onset desorption temperature of MgH2 is reduced significantly from 376 {\deg}C (for pristine MgH2) to 338 degC when it is catalyzed with a HEA-based catalyst. On the other hand, a fast de/re-hydrogenation kinetics of MgH2 was observed during the addition of HEA-based catalyst. It ab sorbs 6.1 wt% of hydrogen in just 2 minutes at a temperature of 300 degC under 10 atm hydrogen pressure and desorbs ~ 5.4 wt% within 40 minutes. At moderate temperatures and low pressure, the HEA-based catalyst reduced desorption temperatures and improved re-hydrogenation kinetics. In this present investigation, we discussed the synthesis, microstructure, and hydrogen storage behavior intermetallic Laves phase in a hexanal TiVZrMnCoFe high entropy alloy. In this HEA, three elements are hydride-forming elements and the other three are non-hydride-forming elements (Fe, Mn, Co). The thermodynamic parameter like enthalpy of mixing was calculated using Meidmas model.The possibility of developing high entropy Laves phase-based hydrogen storage materials was advocated., Comment: 16 pages 6 Figures

In the present study, low-temperature synthesis of (Cu Fe)Al2O4 and (Cu Cr Fe)Al2O4 spinels from the quasicrystalline phases was investigated with the variation of process parameters during milling and annealing. The milling of the quasicrystalline materials was carried out in an attritor mill at 400 rpm for 40 hours with ball to powder ratio of 40:1 in hexane medium. Subsequently, annealing was performed in an air ambience for 10, 20, and 40 h at 400, 500, 600 and 700 C in side a furnace in order to oxidize the mechanically milled quasicrystalline phase for the possible formation of the spinel phase. It was found that after annealing at higher temperature (500 C), mechanically milled quasicrystalline alloy transformed to spinel phase whereas annealing at lower temperature (500 C) it led to the formation of B2 phase as a major one along with minor amount of oxide phase. The X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy of the annealed samples confirmed the formation of spinel phase with an average grain size of 20-40 nm. It is interesting to note that the nanospinel phases showed the different colors during various annealing time and temperature. The occurrence of stable decagonal quasicrystalline phase in Al-Co-Ni and Al-Cu-Co alloys through conventional solidification is well established. Earlier, we have studied the effect of Cu substitution in place of Co in the Al70 Co15Ni15 alloy. Here we report the structural/micro-structural changes with substitution of Cu for Ni in rapidly solidified Al-Co-Ni alloys. The melt-spun ribbons have been characterized using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM & TEM). With an increase in Cu content in the melt spun Al70 Co15Cux Ni15-x (x=0 to 15) alloys, the relative amount of the decagonal phase decreased up to 10 at% of Cu. At this composition the quaternary alloy showed the coexistence of decagonal quasicrystal and superstructure of tau 3 vacancy ordered crystalline phases. The decagonal phase containing Cu showed more disordering compared to Al-Co-Ni alloys. In the present investigation the pure elemental powder mixture of Al (70 at%) Ni (15 at %), Cu (15 at %) was mechanically milled in an attritor ball mill for 10, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 hours in hexane medium at 400 rpm. The isothermal annealing of 100 h mechanically milled powder has been done at 700 0C for 20, 40 and 60 hours. The mechanically alloyed powders are characterized using X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis and transmission electron microscopy techniques. It was observed that mechanical alloying led to the formation of nano tau 3 phases in Al70 Cu15Ni15 after 80 h of milling. In the case of 100 h MM and subsequent annealing at 700 0 C for 20, 40 and 60 h, powder exhibited the formation of tau 3 phases with bigger grain sizes. The (Co,Ni)Al2O4 is an aluminum transition metals oxide which falls into the category of aluminate spinels. The synthesis of nano-crystalline spinels has been investigated extensively due to their potential applications such as a high-density magnetic recording, microwave devices magnetic fluids, ceramic pigment as well as a heterogeneous catalytic material. In the present study, attempts have been made to synthesise the nano-crystalline (Co,Ni)Al2O4 spinel powders by ball milling and subsequent annealing. An alloy of Al70 Ni15 Co15, exhibiting the formation of a complex intermetallic compound known as decagonal quasicrystals in the as-solidified condition, is selected as the starting material for mechanical milling. It is interesting to note that this alloy is close to the stoichiometry of aluminum and transition metal atoms required to form of the aluminate spinel. The milling was carried out in an attritor mill at 400 rpm for 40 hours with ball to powder ratio of 20:1 in hexane medium and the annealing was performed for 10, 20 and 40 h at 600 0 C in air in side the furnace in order to oxidize the decagonal phase and finally to form the spinel structures. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed the formation of nano-sized decagonal phase after milling and then (Co,Ni)Al2O4 spinel type structure from the nano-size decagonal phase during annealing. The average crystallite size has been found to be ~40 nm by XRD and TEM studies, the lattice strain is 0.6 %, and the lattice parameter is 8.0756 A . This work reports the formation of nano- crystalline Al50Cu28Fe22 by high-energy milling. For obtaining the nano-crystalline material, the Al50Cu28Fe22 alloy synthesized through slow cooling of the molten alloy was subjected to ball milling, which was carried out in attritor mill at 400 rpm for 5 h, 10 h, 20 h, 40 h and 80 h with a ball to powder ratio 40 : 1 in hexane medium. The x-ray diffraction observation of ball-milled samples revealed that the milling duration of $5h$ to $40 hrs$ has led to the formation of nano-phase. The average crystallite size comprising the nano-phase has been found to be $\sim 17 nm$. When the nano-crystalline alloy, Al50Cu28Fe22 was vacuum annealed at a temperature of 500$^0C$ for 5 to 20 hrs, new structural phases representing superstructures of the parent nano-crystalline phase were found . The superstructure have been found to correspond to simple cubic with $a = \sqrt 2a_p$ and face central cubic with a = 2a_p (a_p = lattce parameter of parent nano-crystalline alloy). It has been proposed that the formation of different type of superstructure resulting due to different duration of ball milling followed by annealing is possibly governed by minimization of free energy of the disordered B2 phase., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

We investigate the electroproduction of eta mesons below a center of momentum energy of 1.6 GeV, with particular emphasis on the roles of the N*(1535) and N*(1520) resonances. Using the effective Lagrangian approach, we show that the transverse helicity amplitude of the N*(1535) can be extracted with good accuracy from the new eta electroproduction data, under reasonable assumptions for the strength of the longitudinal helicity amplitude. In addition, although the differential cross section is found to to have a small sensitivity to the N*(1520) resonance, it is shown that a recently completed double polarization experiment is very sensitive to this resonance., Comment: 7 pages, Revtex, 3 figures

We calculate the quark orbital angular momentum of the nucleon from the quark energy-momentum tensor form factors on the lattice. The disconnected insertion is estimated stochastically which employs the $Z_2$ noise with an unbiased subtraction. This reduced the error by a factor of 4 with negligible overhead. The total quark contribution to the proton spin is found to be $0.30 \pm 0.07$. From this and the quark spin content we deduce the quark orbital angular momentum to be $0.17 \pm 0.06$ which is $\sim 34$% of the proton spin. We further predict that the gluon angular momentum to be $0.20 \pm 0.07$, i. e. $\sim$ 40% of the proton spin is due to the glue., Comment: 4 pages, 7 figures

We calculate the form factor of the quark energy momentum tensor and thereby extract the quark orbital angular momentum of the nucleon. The calculation is done on a quenched $16^3 \times 24$ lattice at $\beta = 6.0$ and with Wilson fermions at $\kappa$ = 0.148, 0.152, 0.154 and 0.155. We calculate the disconnected insertion stochastically which employs the $Z_2$ noise with an unbiased subtraction. This proves to be an efficient method of reduce the error from the noise. We find that the total quark contribution to the proton spin is $0.29 \pm 0.07$. From this we deduce that the quark orbital angular momentum is $0.17 \pm 0.08$ and predict the gluon spin to be $0.21 \pm 0.07$, i.e. about 40% of the proton spin is due to the glue., Comment: LATTICE99(Matrix Elements), 3 pages, 3 figures

We consider prospects for studying the parity-violating (PV) electroweak excitation of the \Delta(1232) resonance with polarized electron scattering. Given present knowledge of Standard Model parameters, such PV experiments could allow a determination of the N -> \Delta electroweak helicity amplitudes. We discuss the experimental feasibility and theoretical interpretability of such a determination as well as the prospective implications for hadron structure theory. We comment on the recent Mainz "measurement" (PRL78 (1997) 606) of the $E2/M1$ ratio in the $N-\Delta$ electromagnetic transition. Analyzing the Mainz data using an effective Lagrangian approach, we find this ratio to be (-3.19$\pm$0.24)%., Comment: One page, Latex, no figures

We investigate eta photoproduction in the $N^{*}(1535)$ resonance region within the effective Lagrangian approach (ELA), wherein leading contributions to the amplitude at the tree level are taken into account. These include the nucleon Born terms and the leading $t$-channel vector meson exchanges as the non-resonant pieces. In addition, we consider five resonance contributions in the $s$- and $u$- channel; besides the dominant $N^{*}(1535)$, these are: $N^{*}(1440),N^{*}(1520),N^{*}(1650)$ and $N^{*}(1710)$. The amplitudes for the $\pi^\circ$ and the $\eta$ photoproduction near threshold have significant differences, even as they share common contributions, such as those of the nucleon Born terms. Among these differences, the contribution to the $\eta$ photoproduction of the $s$-channel excitation of the $N^{*}(1535)$ is the most significant. We find the off-shell properties of the spin-3/2 resonances to be important in determining the background contributions. Fitting our effective amplitude to the available data base allows us to extract the quantity $\sqrt{\chi \Gamma_\eta} A_{1/2}/\Gamma_T$, characteristic of the photoexcitation of the $N^{*}(1535)$ resonance and its decay into the $\eta$-nucleon channel, of interest to precise tests of hadron models. At the photon point, we determine it to be $(2.2\pm 0.2)\times 10^{-1} GeV^{-1}$ from the old data base, and $(2.2\pm 0.1) \times 10^{-1} GeV^{-1}$ from a combination of old data base and new Bates data. We obtain the helicity amplitude for $N^{*}(1535)\rightarrow \gamma p$ to be $A_{1/2}=(97\pm 7)\times 10^{-3} GeV^{-1/2}$ from the old data base, and $A_{1/2}=(97\pm 6)\times 10^{-3} GeV^{-1/2}$ from the combination of the old data base and new Bates data, compared with the results of the analysis of pion photoproduction yielding $74\pm 11$, in the same units., Comment: 43 pages, RevTeX, 9 figures available upon request, to appear in Phys.
