Abstract

Purpose: The main purpose of this research is to find out new tourist destinations and suggest developmental strategies through scientific ways for solving overtourism-related problems. Theoretical framework: In this research paper, the researchers emphasized finding new tourist spots and analyzing their potential both in touristic and infrastructural value was assessed by the researcher with the help of a most modern tool like Geographic Information System. The researchers have explained a scientific process of exploring new tourist destinations or tourist spots by using GIS and have shown how to develop proper infrastructure around those spots. Design/methodology/approach: A “Multicriteria Spatial Decision Support System modeling” was used to find out and validate the existing and new tourist spots. In the pair-wise comparison method, a criterion versus criteria was created to compare each pair of criteria and assign relative ratings using the scale of pair-wise comparison. In this research, the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method is used because it gives the “most acceptable results for majority of single-dimensional problems”. The researcher has created this map to support the ‘Destination Fetching Model’, and it can also be used for promoting sustainable tourism in the area. If the entire land cover is visible to the planners with an aerial view, they can plan for tourism infrastructure and superstructures from anywhere. GIS-based layer data has created an "all covered" aerial map with the help of advanced GIS technology, which not helped the planners to understand the current land condition, but also showed the open area which can be utilized for new tourism set-up. Manmade and natural resources are also classified through this LULC model. Findings: These new tourist spots will help planners and stakeholders to distribute excessive crowds to comparatively new destinations. Abstract

The self-assembly of a biocompatible amphiphilic homopolymer, thiobarbiturate-functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA-TBA), mediated by water and other cosolvents has been demonstrated here. The synthesis and thorough characterization of the resulting polymeric nanoparticles were documented using conventional spectroscopic techniques, followed by detailed morphological investigations carried out using dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM) analysis. Thorough microscopy studies confirmed fascinating morphologies of nano-aggregates with variable sizes. Super-aggregates were further successfully explored via encapsulation and release studies. The low cytotoxicity of the nano-architectures at high concentrations confirmed their suitability for biomedical applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

33. Knowledge and practices regarding use of iodised salt among population ofselected goitre endemic districts of Bihar

Abstract

Background:Iodine deficiency disorders (IDDs) are important public health problem which can be prevented by consumption of iodized salt. For sustainable elimination of IDDs, the goal of universal salt iodization (USI) is to cover more than 90% of household to consume adequately iodized salt. This study was conducted with objectives to assess knowledge and practices regarding salt consumption and to find the factors associated with consumption of adequately iodized salt in selected districts of traditional goitre belt of Bihar. Materials and Methods: The study was a community based cross-sectional study conducted in three districts of Bihar by using cluster sampling technique from January 2018 to March 2018. Results: Only 1.7% children and 33% adults were able to identify the condition of goitre. Among adults who identified the case as goitre, around 52% respondents had correct knowledge about cause of goitre. Around 30% caregivers knew the brand name of salt that was used in their household and only 19% of adults had heard about iodized salt.In around 13% households; salt was added at the end of cooking during food preparation. Adequately iodized salt was consumed in 73.5% households. The salt stored in air tight container had significantly higher iodine content in comparison to salt stored in open container (p=0.041). Conclusion: The knowledge among people regarding IDDs and iodized salt was very poor which need to be focused in our national programme. The goal of USI regarding iodized salt consumption is yet to be achieved in these districts.

34. Unique vesicular nano‐architecture of thiobarbiturate derived chitosan with excellent hydrophilicity

Abstract

The natural polymer chitosan is conjugated with hydrophilic thiobarbiturate entity which makes the whole molecule amphiphilic as well as water‐soluble. The water solubility of this molecule leads to an interesting supramolecular architecture via self‐assembly. The monomers are synthesized via Friedel Crafts alkylation and ring‐closing reaction where homopolymers derivatives undergo coupling and thiol‐ene click reaction. The monomer and the modified polymers are well characterized through conventional spectroscopic techniques. The self‐assembly behavior is then confirmed through critical aggregation concentration study and dynamic light scattering. The field emission scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope images provide the architectures' fascinating morphology. Finally, the loading and release of doxorubicin drug are performed to investigate the biomedical applications.

35. Factors determining institutional delivery in eastern part of India.

Abstract

Objective: Institutional delivery (ID) plays a vital role for determining the outcome of pregnancy and ensuring care to mother and newborn. The present study aims to find out the correlates of ID from the eastern part of India. Materials and Methods: Data from National Family Health Survey 4 were analyzed for three states – Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, keeping district as a unit of analysis. Correlation and regression were used for finding out the determinants of ID. Results: Overall, 67.8% of deliveries were conducted in hospitals. All the three states were able to improve performance on related health parameters like antenatal care. After adjusting for other variables, on multiple linear regression, female literacy was significantly related to ID. Conclusions: Social parameters need to be focused for encouraging ID. Abstract

The metal-binding properties of the peptide AQ-C16C19 existing as a two-stranded [alpha]-helical coiled coil in absence of metal ions is reported. The peptide undergoes a small conformational change when two [Cd.sup.2+] ions bind to a preformed [Cys.sub.4]-metal-binding site within its hydrophobic interior.

Abstract

The northern part of the state of West Bengal, particularly the Himalayan range has been bestowed with a great wealth of perennial rivers and small streams. These rivers and tributaries, namely, the Teesta, Rangeet, Ralli, Rishi, Reyang, Gelkhola Pala, Mahananda, Balasun and others are sources of important sport & ornamental fish species, crabs & prawns which have high export value. These precious species have never been investigated properly nor have they been identified for commercial purposes Moreover, the number of indigenous, flora and fauna is declining every year due to the various man made and natural calamities. Moreover, a number of mini hydroelectricity dams are under construction across the river Teesta that will further add to the decline of various fish species. There is no substantial data of cold-water fisheries to come up with credible information to provide a firm base for formulating suitable guidelines for conservation, propagation and judicious exploitation of the existing resources of the cold-water fisheries in the state of West Bengal. For the last decade, the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources and Fishing Harbours, GOWB, with the collaboration of DGHC is coming up with numbers of fishery projects for sustainable utilisation of its vast resources and playing a vital role towards the upliftment and shaping of the socio-economic condition of the people of this region. A detailed survey on the water quality, fish species diversity of the North Bengal with special emphasis to cold water fisheries is therefore important for propagation and conservation of the important flora and fauna of this region in order to come up with proper planning for sustainable exploitation without disturbing the natural eco-system. Hence an attempt has been made in this book to assess the resource inventory of cold water fisheries, to study the growth, food, feeding habit and viability of coldwater fish species in confined water, to assess the constraints of implementing coldwater fishery and to survey the present fisheries scenario of North Bengal and measures to be taken in a systematic manner.
