Introduction Hemangiomas are benign vascular lesions. The complicated hemangiomas that are causing significant functional or cosmetic problems need surgical excision. This paper presents a novel technique of reconstruction using surgical mesh after removal of a facial hemangioma.Case report A 50-year-old male patient presented with right cheek swelling for more than 40 years causing disproportion of the face. A flap was raised by a nasolabial linear incision, then a 4*2 cm surgical mesh was put in, and the wound closed cosmetically. The excised tissue was sent for histopathological examinations and the results confirmed hemangioma. After more than two years follow up, the patient’s face was symmetrical with normal facial contour.Conclusion The application of surgical mesh for patients who seek functional and cosmetic improvements after hemangioma removal is a constructive method that gives the desired outcome for the patient.

Abstract Introduction To date, only a limited number of case reports have documented the co-occurrence of PNS and melanocytic nevus in the medical literature. This study aims to report an exceptionally rare case of posterior chest wall PNS in conjunction with a melanocytic nevus. Case presentation A 46-year-old female presented with a long-standing black lesion on her left upper posterior chest wall, that had become painful in the two months prior to presentation. There was a painful, dark blue, non-erythematous, and non-tender nodule on the left upper posterior chest wall. Based on the patient’s desire for cosmetic purposes, the lesion was excised totally with primary closure under local anaesthesia. Histopathological examination revealed intradermal melanocytic nevus with inflamed pilonidal sinus. Discussion The rarity of posterior chest wall PNS associated with nevi poses unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for clinicians. The distinct anatomical location, different from the conventional region, and the rare association between the two conditions may delay accurate diagnosis and result in mismanagement or inappropriate interventions. Conclusion The posterior chest wall PNS is another type of atypical PNS that is extremely rare. The association between PNS and blue nevus is a fascinating medical finding that deserves further investigation.

Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques have demonstrated significant potential in the development of effective intrusion detection systems. This study presents a systematic review of the utilization of ML, DL, optimization algorithms, and datasets in intrusion detection research from 2018 to 2023. We devised a comprehensive search strategy to identify relevant studies from scientific databases. After screening 393 papers meeting the inclusion criteria, we extracted and analyzed key information using bibliometric analysis techniques. The findings reveal increasing publication trends in this research domain and identify frequently used algorithms, with convolutional neural networks, support vector machines, decision trees, and genetic algorithms emerging as the top methods. The review also discusses the challenges and limitations of current techniques, providing a structured synthesis of the state-of-the-art to guide future intrusion detection research.

Lingual osteoma, a rare, benign bone tumor that primarily affects the posterior tongue, can be difficult to diagnose. This study aims to report a case of osteoma affecting the tongue in a 17-year-old female. The patient had a foreign body sensation and a progressively growing lesion for 3 years and underwent clinical examination and diagnostic procedures. A well-defined, smooth-surfaced, white mass was discovered in the posterior third of the tongue. The 1.5 × 1 × 0.4 cm mass was completely excised under local anesthesia and histopathologically confirmed as a benign lingual osteoma. The 2-month post-operative outcome was uneventful. The rarity of lingual osteoma, as well as the fact that it is often asymptomatic, makes diagnosis difficult. The diagnosis entails a proper clinical examination, imaging studies, and histopathological analysis. Surgical intervention, primarily aimed at complete excision while preserving tongue function, remains the primary treatment option. Successful excision entails educating healthcare professionals about this rare benign bony tumor to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Objective The incidence of thyroglossal duct diseases in the general population is about 7%. We aimed to demonstrate the clinical presentations and management of thyroglossal duct diseases. Methods We conducted a retrospective review of all patients who underwent surgery for histopathologically confirmed thyroglossal duct cyst, sinus, or fistula at a single center. Results A total of 151 cases were included in this study. There were more female patients (87, 58%) than male patients (64, 42%). The patients’ ages ranged from 1 to 63 years old. The most prevalent complaint was painless upper midline neck swelling (93.3%). Most cases were diagnosed as thyroglossal duct cysts (137, 90.7%). Six cases (4%) were associated with carcinoma. All the cases were managed using the modified Sistrunk procedure. There were no procedure-related complications, and five cases of recurrence. Conclusions Although thyroglossal duct cyst is the most common neck anomaly in children, it may also present with various characteristics later in life. This condition can be managed successfully without complications and with a low recurrence rate.

Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is a well-differentiated malignancy, while insular thyroid carcinoma (ITC) is a very rare and poorly differentiated tumor. The present study reports a case of ITC arising within the background of FTC. A 52-year-old housewife presented with an anterior neck swelling for a duration of 6 months. An ultrasound examination revealed a well-defined solid nodule measuring ~58x37x28 mm in the mid-lower third of the right thyroid lobe, and two small nodules of <3 mm in size in the left lobe. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the lesion led to the suspicion of follicular neoplasm. A right thyroid lobectomy was performed, and the histopathological examination revealed poorly differentiated insular carcinoma arising in the background of FTC. As a result of this diagnosis, a completion thyroidectomy was performed. ITC is a rare and highly aggressive thyroid malignancy that is morphologically and biologically regarded as an intermediate between fully differentiated and undifferentiated/anaplastic thyroid carcinomas. In comparison to patients solely with follicular carcinoma, patients with insular carcinoma are older, more often male, have larger tumor sizes, are at greater risk of metastasis, and have a lower survival rate. Poorly differentiated ITC with follicular carcinoma is a very rare and aggressive condition that could be managed by thyroidectomy followed by radioiodine therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Intraparotid gland neurofibroma is a rare benign tumor that arises from Schwann cells of the facial nerve within the parotid gland. This case report discusses a 41-year-old woman who experienced a painless preauricular swelling on her right side for over 5 years. Clinical examination and ultrasound revealed a well-defined mass in the parotid gland. The patient underwent total mass excision, resulting in transient facial nerve dysfunction but complete recovery. These tumors often manifest as solitary masses in the parotid region and may compress nearby structures, causing facial paralysis or numbness. Their diagnosis can be challenging due to similarities with other parotid gland tumors and possible associations with neurofibromatosis. Managing intraparotid tumors, including neurofibromas, involves a multidisciplinary approach with input from cytopathologists, radiologists, and surgeons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective This study was performed to report and analyze the prevalence of permanent facial nerve paralysis following parotidectomy for various benign and malignant lesions in a single center. Methods This single-center retrospective study included all patients who underwent parotidectomy (total and superficial) for benign and malignant tumors and chronic inflammatory diseases during a 6-year period. Patients who had previously undergone an operation of the parotid gland and those with preoperative facial weakness were excluded. Results The study included 127 patients ranging in age from 14 to 83 years (median, 45.89 years). Most patients were female (n = 83, 65.4%). The most prevalent procedure was superficial parotidectomy (n = 117, 92.1%), followed by total parotidectomy (n = 6, 4.7%). The average operative duration was 138 minutes (range, 80–400 minutes). Histopathology revealed that 109 (85.8%) patients had benign tumors, 14 (11.0%) had malignant tumors, and 4 (3.1%) had chronic sialadenitis. Only two patients sustained an injury to the cervical branch of the facial nerve. Conclusion In this single-center experience of parotid surgery, the rates of transient and permanent facial paralysis were acceptably low at 9.0% and 1.6%, respectively, for all pathologies.

Smartphones have become an important Internet platform and play an essential role in individuals' daily lives, and their use is gaining popularity due to their various features. The study's main objective was to investigate the potential of smartphones as tools for improving English writing skills. The proliferation of Education has facilitated the broad adoption of mobile language learning, prompting this research to examine the growing inclination of undergraduate students to acquire English language skills via the use of Smartphones. The quantitative method was used to collect data by conducting a questionnaire to undergraduate students, and the survey included the recruitment of 52 individuals, with ages ranging from 18 to 23; among all those who took part, there were 41 females and 11 males. The results indicated that using smartphones positively impacted various aspects of English language proficiency, such as listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and communication. The findings show that the respondents acknowledged the benefits of employing social media and smartphones to enhance their writing abilities by using smartphones, and this pattern is anticipated to persist in the forthcoming period. Copper -graphite composites are widely used in a great number of engineering applicationssuch as brushes, switches, sliding bearings, self-lubricating bearings, etc. due to their goodthermal and electrical conductivity and excellent tribological properties as compared with otherstructural materials. There are ongoing attempts in manufacturing copper composites with betterproperties to enhance their efficiency and increase their effective life. Present research aims to prepare hybrid 95wt.% copper –5wt.% graphite composites reinforced with yttria and tin particles by powder metallurgy technique and to study their effects on mechanical and physical properties of the prepared composites. Powder mixture was mixed by ball mill mixer at 100rpm for 120min with (5/1) balls to powder ratio. The powder mixture was cold pressed at 700MPa for 30sec, followed by sintering at 900 ?C for one hour. In the first stage, Yttria(Y2O3) was added with (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) wt% to pure copper (Cu) and to (95%Cu-5%Gr) matrices. Typical composite of this stage was ((95%Cu-5%Gr)-4%Y2O3. In the second stage, tin (Sn) was added with (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) wt% to pure copper and((95%Cu-5%Gr)-4%Y2O3 matrices. Typical composite of this stage was ((95%Cu-5%Gr)-4%Y2O3)-6%Sn. The results showed that hardness and true porosity of the composites increases with increasing yttria content. On the other hand both thermal and electrical conductivity of the composites decreases with increasing yttria content. It was also found that (95 wt.% Cu- 5 wt.% Gr) – Y2O3 composites have always lower wear rate than plain Cu-Y2O3 composites.

The choice between nodulectomy and lobectomy for managing thyroid nodules is a subject of debate in the field of thyroid surgery. The present study aims to share the experience of a single center in managing solitary thyroid nodules through nodulectomy from January 2023 to October 2023. The inclusion criteria encompassed symptomatic or suspicious solitary nodules and medically necessitated cases. The extracted data included patient demographics, medical history, symptoms, diagnostic details, surgery indication, procedure outcome and histopathological findings. The follow-up included clinic visits and phone calls. The mean age of the patients was 36.64±11.63 years, with 85.0% females and 15.0% males. Predominantly, patients were housewives (58.5%). Neck swelling (62.3%) was the most common presentation. Ultrasound examination revealed mixed nodules in more than half of the cases (54.7%). Right nodulectomy was performed in 26 cases (49.1%) and left nodulectomy in 23 (43.4%), and four cases (7.5%) underwent isthmusectomy. The mean operation time was 36.04±9.37 min and no drainage tube was used in any of the cases. One case (1.9%) of seroma was the only observed complication during the observational period. Nodulectomy may be a suitable choice for managing benign, large, solitary thyroid nodules, small suspicious nodules or microcarcinomas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a rare inflammatory disorder that infrequently occurs with synchronous breast carcinoma. The present study reports the case of a patient who was initially diagnosed with recurrent GM, which eventually proved to be masking an underlying ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). A 30-year-old female presented with left breast pain. On clinical examination, there was a large, palpable and painful lump in the left breast, with axillary lymphadenopathy. Initially, the diagnosis was GM and conservative treatment was applied. Surgical resection was decided upon for the condition after it became recurrent, and the histopathological examination revealed extensive DCIS with GM. Later on, the patient underwent a mastectomy with an axillary sentinel lymph node biopsy. The postoperative follow-up was uneventful. In conclusion, tissue diagnosis has a key role in detecting DCIS masked by GM, especially in young females who are not undergoing regular mammogram screening. The present study shows the challenge that the specialists in this field may face when dealing with recurrent GM of the breast, and warns them to search for a second pathology such as the DCIS presented in the current case.
