The log-normal distribution is widely used to model positive valued data in many areas of applied research. However, sometimes the log-normal distribution does not completely satisfy the fitting expectations in every real life situations. In this paper, we introduce, investigate, and discuss a more flexible shifted hybrid log-normal distribution for which the log-normal distribution is a special case. Also, various properties, special cases and estimation procedure of the new distribution are discussed. Moreover, the performances of maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters are examined using a brief simulation study. The flexibility and performance of the newdistribution is also illustrated through two applications by fitting two real datasets of different situations.

In this article, the Lagrange expansion of the second kind is used to generate a novel zero-truncated Katz distribution; we refer to it as the Lagrangian zero-truncated Katz distribution (LZTKD). Notably, the zero-truncated Katz distribution is a special case of this distribution. Along with the closed form expression of all its statistical characteristics, the LZTKD is proven to provide an adequate model for both underdispersed and overdispersed zero-truncated count datasets. Specifically, we show that the associated hazard rate function has increasing, decreasing, bathtub, or upside-down bathtub shapes. Moreover, we demonstrate that the LZTKD belongs to the Lagrangian distribution of the first kind. Then, applications of the LZTKD in statistical scenarios are explored. The unknown parameters are estimated using the well-reputed method of the maximum likelihood. In addition, the generalized likelihood ratio test procedure is applied to test the significance of the additional parameter. In order to evaluate the performance of the maximum likelihood estimates, simulation studies are also conducted. The use of real-life datasets further highlights the relevance and applicability of the proposed model.

In this research work, a new three-parameter lifetime distribution is introduced and studied. It is called the Harris extended Bilal distribution due to its construction from a mixture of the famous Bilal and Harris distributions, resulting from a branching process. The basic properties, such as the moment generating function, moments, quantile function, and Rényi entropy, are discussed. We show that the hazard rate function has ideal features for modeling increasing, upside-down bathtub, and roller-coaster data sets. In a second part, the Harris extended Bilal model is investigated from a statistical viewpoint. The maximum likelihood estimation is used to estimate the parameters, and a simulation study is carried out. The flexibility of the proposed model in a hydrological data analysis scenario is demonstrated using two practical data sets and compared with important competing models. After that, we establish an acceptance sampling plan that takes advantage of all of the features of the Harris extended Bilal model. The operating characteristic values, the minimum sample size that corresponds to the maximum possible defects, and the minimum ratios of lifetime associated with the producer’s risk are discussed.

In this research, we design the Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern bivariate moment exponential distribution, a bivariate analogue of the moment exponential distribution, using the Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern approach. With the analysis of real-life data, the competitiveness of the Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern bivariate moment exponential distribution in comparison with the other Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern distributions is discussed. Based on the Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern bivariate moment exponential distribution, we develop the distribution theory of concomitants of order statistics and derive the best linear unbiased estimator of the parameter associated with the variable of primary interest (study variable). Evaluations are also conducted regarding the efficiency comparison of the best linear unbiased estimator relative to the respective unbiased estimator. Additionally, empirical illustrations of the best linear unbiased estimator with respect to the unbiased estimator are performed.

The zero-truncated Poisson distribution (ZTPD) generates a statistical model that could be appropriate when observations begin once at least one event occurs. The intervened Poisson distribution (IPD) is a substitute for the ZTPD, in which some intervention processes may change the mean of the rare events. These two zero-truncated distributions exhibit underdispersion (i.e., their variance is less than their mean). In this research, we offer an alternative solution for dealing with intervention problems by proposing a generalization of the IPD by a Lagrangian approach called the Lagrangian intervened Poisson distribution (LIPD), which in fact generalizes both the ZTPD and the IPD. As a notable feature, it has the ability to analyze both overdispersed and underdispersed datasets. In addition, the LIPD has a closed-form expression of all of its statistical characteristics, as well as an increasing, decreasing, bathtub-shaped, and upside-down bathtub-shaped hazard rate function. A consequent part is devoted to its statistical application. The maximum likelihood estimation method is considered, and the effectiveness of the estimates is demonstrated through a simulated study. To evaluate the significance of the new parameter in the LIPD, a generalized likelihood ratio test is performed. Subsequently, we present a new count regression model that is suitable for both overdispersed and underdispersed datasets using the mean-parametrized form of the LIPD. Additionally, the LIPD’s relevance and application are shown using real-world datasets.

In the literature, estimation of weighted extropy is infrequently considered. In this paper, some non-parametric estimators of weighted extropy are given. The validation and comparison of the estimators are implemented with the help of simulation study and data illustration. The usefulness of the estimators is demonstrated using real data sets.

The importance of Lagrangian distributions and their applicability in real-world events have been highlighted in several studies. In light of this, we create a new zero-truncated Lagrangian distribution. It is presented as a generalization of the zero-truncated binomial distribution (ZTBD) and hence named the Lagrangian zero-truncated binomial distribution (LZTBD). The moments, probability generating function, factorial moments, as well as skewness and kurtosis measures of the LZTBD are discussed. We also show that the new model’s finite mixture is identifiable. The unknown parameters of the LZTBD are estimated using the maximum likelihood method. A broad simulation study is executed as an evaluation of the well-established performance of the maximum likelihood estimates. The likelihood ratio test is used to assess the effectiveness of the third parameter in the new model. Six COVID-19 datasets are used to demonstrate the LZTBD’s applicability, and we conclude that the LZTBD is very competitive on the fitting objective.

The significance of count data modeling and its applications to real-world phenomena have been highlighted in several research studies. The present study focuses on a two-parameter discrete distribution that can be obtained by compounding the Poisson and extended exponential distributions. It has tractable and explicit forms for its statistical properties. The maximum likelihood estimation method is used to estimate the unknown parameters. An extensive simulation study was also performed. In this paper, the significance of the proposed distribution is demonstrated in a count regression model and in a first-order integer-valued autoregressive process, referred to as the INAR(1) process. In addition to this, the empirical importance of the proposed model is proved through three real-data applications, and the empirical findings indicate that the proposed INAR(1) model provides better results than other competitive models for time series of counts that display overdispersion.

This paper corrects and updates Irshad et al. (2021) by some technical comments. The original paperwas inadvertently published with some errors, mainly the computational ones regarding the maximum likelihood (ML) estimate of the parameters of the fitted models which will be addressed and corrected in this paper. Furthermore, the standard errors of the ML estimates of different fitted models, as an important indicator of the accuracy of estimates and particularly are necessary for making the statistical inference for the population parameters, have been added.

Manganese (Mn) and iron (Fe) are the two vital micronutrients for plants and moreover essential nutritional health components in humans. Iron deficiency is common in humans and causes many health issues. In this survey, wheat grains of two major wheat cultivars were analyzed for their Mn and Fe concentrations beside the natural gradient of micronutrient availability across Sulaymaniyah province, Iraqi Kurdistan. However only 20% and 7.5% of the soils samples were Mn and Fe deficient or below recommended level. The considered micronutrient concentrations in the grains of wheat were in the acceptable range which are reported globally (range 41.3 and 37.6 mg kg-1 respectively). Furthermore, high application of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer in the studied calcareous soils could be strongly affected on the studied micronutrients concentration in the studied grain samples. The results indicate that adequate levels of Mn and Fe in the surveyed grains is a beneficial guide for quality of grains associated with human heal

This paper focuses on a one-parameter discrete distribution obtained by compounding the Poisson and new X-Lindley distributions. The probability-generating function, moments, skewness, kurtosis, and other properties are derived in the closed form. The maximum likelihood method, method of moments, least squares method, and weighted least squares method are used for parameter estimation. A simulation study is carried out. The proposed distribution is applied as the innovation in an INAR(1) process. The importance of the proposed model is confirmed through the analysis of two real datasets.

In this paper, we refined the concept of past extropy measure for concomitants of order statistics from Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern family. In addition, cumulative past extropy measure and dynamic cumulative past extropy measure for concomitant of rth order statistic are also conferred and their properties are studied. The problem of estimating the cumulative past extropy is investigated using empirical technique. The validity of the proposed estimator has been emphasized using simulation study.

Count data are encountered in real-life dealings. More understanding of such data and the extraction of important information about the data require some statistical analysis or modeling. One innovative technique to increase the modeling flexibility of well-known distributions is to use the convolution of random variables. This study examines the distribution that results from adding two independent random variables, one with the Bernoulli distribution and the other with the Poisson–Lindley distribution. The considered distribution is named as the two-parameter Bernoulli–Poisson–Lindley distribution. Many of its statistical properties are investigated, such as moments, survival and hazard rate functions, mode, dispersion behavior, mean deviation about the mean, and parameter inference based on the maximum likelihood method. To evaluate the effectiveness of the bias and mean square error of the produced estimates, a simulation exercise is carried out. Then, applications to two practical data sets are given. Finally, we construct a flexible count data regression model based on the proposed distribution with two practical examples.

The Lindley distribution was proposed in the context of Bayesian statistics as a counter example of fiducial statistics. In this paper, we propose Zografos Balakrishnan Lindley (ZBL) distribution in which Lindley distribution is a special case. Some properties of the new distribution is obtained such as moments, hazard rate function, reliability function etc. The parameters are estimated using the method of maximum likelihood. Finally an application of the proposed distribution to a real data set is illustrated and it is concluded that Zogarfos Balakrishnan Lindley (ZBL) distribution provides better fit than other classical distributions.

In this work, we have considered a lifetime distribution namely Muth distribution and pointed out instances where it appears as a good model to study the stochastic nature of the variable under consideration. We have derived the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) of the scale parameter of the Muth distribution based on order statistics for some known values of the shape parameter.We have further estimated the scale parameter of Muth distribution by U-statistics based on best linear functions of order statistics as kernels. The efficiency of the BLUE relative to the usual unbiased estimator has been also evaluated. An illustration describing the performance of U-statistics estimation method when compared with the classical maximum likelihood method is also given.

Shannon developed the idea of entropy in 1948, which relates to the measure of uncertainty associated with a random variable X. The contribution of the extropy function as a dual complement of entropy is one of the key modern results based on Shannon’s work. In order to develop the inferential aspects of the extropy function, this paper proposes a non-parametric kernel type estimator as a new method of measuring uncertainty. Here, the observations are exhibiting α-mixing dependence. Asymptotic properties of the estimator are proved under appropriate regularity conditions. For comparison’s sake, a simple non-parametric estimator is proposed, and in this respect, the performance of the estimator is investigated using a Monte Carlo simulation study based on mean-squared error and using two real-life data.

Discrete-valued time series modeling has witnessed numerous bivariate first-order integer-valued autoregressive process or BINAR(1) processes based on binomial thinning and different innovation distributions. These BINAR(1) processes are mainly focused on over-dispersion. This paper aims to propose new bivariate distributions and processes based on a recently proposed over-dispersed distribution: the Poisson 2S-Lindley distribution. The new bivariate distributions, denoted by the abbreviations BP2S-L(I) and BP2S-L(II), are then used as innovation distributions for the BINAR(1) process. Properties are investigated for both distributions as well as for the BINAR(1) processes. The distribution parameters are estimated using the maximum likelihood method, and the BINAR(1)BP2S-L(I) and BINAR(1)BP2S-L(II) process parameters are estimated using the conditional least squares and conditional maximum likelihood methods. Monte Carlo simulation experiments are conducted to study large and small sample performances and for the comparison of the estimation methods. The Pittsburgh crime series and candy sales datasets are then used to compare the new BINAR(1) processes to some other existing BINAR(1) processes in the literature.

In this paper, we construct a new Lagrangian discrete distribution, named the Lagrangian zero truncated Poisson distribution (LZTPD). It can be presented as a generalization of the zero truncated Poissson distribution (ZTPD) and an alternative to the intervened Poisson distribution (IPD), which was elaborated for modelling both over-dispersed and under-dispersed count datasets. The mathematical aspects of the LZTPD are thoroughly investigated, and its connection to other discrete distributions is crucially observed. Further, we define a finite mixture of LZTPDs and establish its identifiability condition along with some distributional aspects. Statistical work is then performed. The maximum likelihood and method of moment approaches are used to estimate the unknown parameters of the LZTPD. Simulation studies are also undertaken as an assessment of the long-term performance of the estimates. The significance of one additional parameter in the LZTPD is tested using a generalized likelihood ratio test. Moreover, we propose a new count regression model named the Lagrangian zero truncated Poisson regression model (LZTPRM) and its parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood estimation method. Two real-world datasets are considered to demonstrate the LZTPD’s real-world applicability, and healthcare data are analyzed to demonstrate the LZTPRM’s superiority.

Several pieces of research have spotlighted the importance of count data modelling and its applications in real-world phenomena. In light of this, a novel two-parameter compound-Poisson distribution is developed in this paper. Its mathematical functionalities are investigated. The two unknown parameters are estimated using both maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches. We also offer a parametric regression model for the count datasets based on the proposed distribution. Furthermore, the first-order integer-valued autoregressive process, or INAR(1) process, is also used to demonstrate the utility of the suggested distribution in time series analysis. The unknown parameters of the proposed INAR(1) model are estimated using the conditional maximum likelihood, conditional least squares, and Yule–Walker techniques. Simulation studies for the suggested distribution and the INAR(1) model based on this innovative distribution are also undertaken as an assessment of the long-term performance of the estimators. Finally, we utilized three real datasets to depict the new model’s real-world applicability.

A bounded form of the Teissier distribution, namely the unit Teissier distribution, is introduced. It is subjected to a thorough examination of its important properties, including shape analysis of the main functions, analytical expression for moments based on upper incomplete gamma function, incomplete moments, probability-weighted moments, and quantile function. The uncertainty measures Shannon entropy and extropy are also performed. The maximum likelihood estimation, least square estimation, weighted least square estimation, and Bayesian estimation methods are used to estimate the parameters of the model, and their respective performances are assessed via a simulation study. Finally, the competency of the proposed model is illustrated by using two data sets from diverse fields.

Many studies have underlined the importance of the log-normal distribution in the modeling of phenomena occurring in biology. With this in mind, in this article we offer a new and motivated transformed version of the log-normal distribution, primarily for use with biological data. The hazard rate function, quantile function, and several other significant aspects of the new distribution are investigated. In particular, we show that the hazard rate function has increasing, decreasing, bathtub, and upside-down bathtub shapes. The maximum likelihood and Bayesian techniques are both used to estimate unknown parameters. Based on the proposed distribution, we also present a parametric regression model and a Bayesian regression approach. As an assessment of the longstanding performance, simulation studies based on maximum likelihood and Bayesian techniques of estimation procedures are also conducted. Two real datasets are used to demonstrate the applicability of the new distribution. The efficiency of the third parameter in the new model is tested by utilizing the likelihood ratio test. Furthermore, the parametric bootstrap approach is used to determine the effectiveness of the suggested model for the datasets.

Tsallis introduced a non-logarithmic generalization of Shannon entropy, namely Tsallis entropy, which is non-extensive. Sati and Gupta proposed cumulative residual information based on this non-extensive entropy measure, namely cumulative residual Tsallis entropy (CRTE), and its dynamic version, namely dynamic cumulative residual Tsallis entropy (DCRTE). In the present paper, we propose non-parametric kernel type estimators for CRTE and DCRTE where the considered observations exhibit an ρ-mixing dependence condition. Asymptotic properties of the estimators were established under suitable regularity conditions. A numerical evaluation of the proposed estimator is exhibited and a Monte Carlo simulation study was carried out.

In this paper, we introduce a discrete version of the Pseudo Lindley (PsL) distribution, namely, the discrete Pseudo Lindley (DPsL) distribution, and systematically study its mathematical properties. Explicit forms gathered for the properties such as the probability generating function, moments, skewness, kurtosis and stress–strength reliability made the distribution favourable. Two different methods are considered for the estimation of unknown parameters and, hence, compared with a broad simulation study. The practicality of the proposed distribution is illustrated in the first-order integer-valued autoregressive process. Its empirical importance is proved through three real datasets.
