Amaç: Üveit görme kaybının eşlik ettiği patofizyolojisinin henüz anlaşılamadığı üveanın enflamatuvar hastalığıdır. Kortikosteroidler üveit tedavisinin bilinen ana basamağıdır. Hiperbarik oksijen tedavisi son yıllarda kullanımı artmakta ve anti-enflamatuear etkileri bilinmektedir. Çalışmada lipopolisakkarit ile deneysel olarak üveit oluşturduğumuz ratlarda hiperbarik oksijen tedavisi ve deksametazonun ayrı ayrı ve bir- likte etkilerini araştırdık. Gereç ve Yöntem: 38 adet Wistar albino rat rastgele 5 gruba ayrıldı. Sham, kontrol, hiperbarik oksijen tedavisi, Deksametazon ve hiperba- rik oksijen tedavisi+deksametazon grubu oluşturuldu. Deneysel olarak üveit oluşturmak için sham grubu dışında diğer gruplara ayak tabanına lipopolisakkarit uygulandı. 24 saatte 4 doz hiperbarik oksijen tedavisi ve tek doz intraperitoneal deksametazon uygulandı. Tüm gruplarda vit- reus ve aköz humor sıvılarında biyokimyasal çalışmalar ve histopatolojik incelemeler yapıldı. Bulgular: Vitreus ve aköz humordeki biyokimyasal parametreler (ICAM-1, visfatin, IL-1?, TNF ?) ve histopatolojik görüntüler yalnız korti- kosteroid tedavisinin en iyi tedavi grubu olduğu, hiperbarik oksijen tedavisinin prognoz açısından anlamlı bir farklılık oluşturmadığı ve korti- kosteroid tedavisine eklenen hiperbarik oksijen tedavisinin mevcut etkileri de azalttığı görülmüştür. Sonuç: Hiperbarik oksijen tedavisinin göz hastalıklarında kullanımı sınırlıdır. Üveit için daha önce yapılmış çalışmaların aksine, çalışma- mızda hiperbarik oksijen tedavisinin üveit tedavisinde prognoza pozitif etkisi gözlemlenmemiştir. Fakat bilinen tedavi yöntemlerine seçenek ola- bilmesi için daha farklı hiperbarik oksijen tedavisi planları ile yeni çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır. Objective: Uveitis is an inflammatory disease of uveitis, which is accompanied by visual loss and whose pathophysiology is not completely yet understood. Corticosteroids are the main step in the treatment of uveitis. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been used frequently in re- cent years and its anti-inflammatory effects are known. In this study, we investigated the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and dexametha- sone separately and together in rats with lipopolysaccharides induced uveitis. Material and Method: 38 Wistar albino rats were randomly assigned to 5 groups. Sham, control, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Dexamethasone and hyperbaric oxygen therapy + Dexamethasone groups were formed. Experimental lipopolysaccharides toxins was applied to groups except sham group for experimental uveitis. Biochemical studies on vitreous and aqueous humor fluids and histopathologic examina- tions were performed in all groups. Results: Biochemical parameters (ICAM-1, visfatin, IL-1?, TNF ?) on vitreous and aqueous humor and histopathological images showed that solely corticosteroid treatment was the best treatment. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment did not produce any significant difference in prognosis and it has been shown that treatment with hyperbaric oxygen therapy added to corticosteroid therapy also reduces the current effects. Conclusion: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has limited use in eye diseases. Unlike previous studies, we did not observe any positive prognosis of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on uveitis treatment in our study. However, there is a need for new hyperbaric oxygen therapy schemes and new studies in order to be able to choose the usual treatment methods.

Summary Objectives: Hydatid cyst is a zoonotic disease with an endemic regional distribution, and Aspergillus is a saprophytic fungus that may cause allergic pulmonary aspergillosis, aspergilloma, and semi-invasive and invasive aspergillosis. The coexistence of a saprophytic fungus and hydatid cyst is extremely rare. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the coexistence of aspergillosis and echinococcosis in archival materials and to discuss its probable clinical significance. Methods: Hematoxylin—eosin (HE)-stained sections of 100 archival cases with the diagnosis of hydatid cyst were reevaluated by four pathologists independently. Grocott’s methenamine-silver (GMS) and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) were applied to the slides that were suspected of having coinfection with Aspergillus to confirm the diagnosis. Results: Two cases of aspergillosis and hydatid cyst coexistence were found out of the 100 reevaluated archival cases with a diagnosis of hydatid cyst. Both of the cases were located in the lung, in immunocompetent patients. Conclusions: Aspergillosis and hydatid cyst coexistence may be important in patients with immune deficiency and in cases with pre- or perioperatively ruptured cysts. There are no reliable data on the specificity and sensitivity of radiological imaging techniques in detecting the existence of Aspergillus in hydatid cysts. Histopathological evaluation is essential for diagnosis and for the planning of management.

Objective: Smooth muscle fibres are found within thesuperficial lamina propria of urinary bladder (Muscularis Mucosa). Thesemuscle fibres of muscularis mucosa should be distinguished from themuscularis propria in cases with urothelial carcinoma, because the depthof infiltration affects prognosis and therapy modalities. The aim of thepresent study was to evaluate whether the presence of vascular plexus isa criterion for muscularis mucosa and to distinguish it from muscularispropria in urinary bladder biopsies and transurethral resectionspecimens. Materials and methods: Hematoxylin-Eosin andMasson-Trichrome stained slides of 54 cases with urothelial carcinomawere reviewed. Results: In all cases (100%), thick walledvessels were observed within the lamina propria of urinary bladder.Smooth muscle layer of lamina propria was seen in 48 of 54 cases(88.8%), and these smooth muscle fibres were co-existed with thickwalled vessels. In invasive urothelial carcinoma; thin smooth musclefibres and thick walled vessels were seen within the lamina propria in22 of 24 cases (91.7%). There were two cases (8.3%)including only vessels in small biopsies of invasive urothelialcarcinoma cases. In cases with non-invasive urothelial carcinoma; musclefibres of muscularis mucosa and vessels were found within the laminapropia in 26 of 30 cases (86.7%). In this group, muscle fibreswere not detected in 4 cases (13.3%). Conclusion:Muscularis mucosa can be detected histologically in urinary bladderbiopsies and TUR materials. We emphasize that the presence of vascularnetwork is a useful criterion to determine muscularis mucosa of urinarybladder, even in the absence of muscle fibres.
