Interventions to reduce the prevalence of trachoma and transmission of ocularWe use a two-stage cluster-sampling cross-sectional survey design. In each EU, 26 clusters (villages) were systematically selected with probability proportional to size; from each cluster, 30 households were selected using compact segment sampling. Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) access was assessed in all selected households. All residents of selected households aged ≥1 year were examined for TF and trachomatous trichiasis (TT) by certified graders.Of 31,991 individuals enumerated, 29,230 (91% of) individuals were examined. Eight EUs had an age-adjusted TF prevalence in 1-9-year-olds of ≥5% and seven had a TT prevalence unknown to the health system among adults aged ≥15 years of ≥0.2%. About one-third of visited households had access to an improved water source for drinking, and 5% had access to an improved latrine.Despite TF reductions to5% at impact survey, prevalence recrudesced to ≥5% in all but three of the 11 EUs. Operational research is needed to understand transmission dynamics and epidemiology, in order to optimise elimination strategies in high-transmission settings like these.

PurposeThe paper aims to study the outreach and performance of business correspondent (BC) models, which are implemented as a subsidiary agent of banks to accelerate the financial inclusion (FI) mission in India. In this regard, the study illustrates BC's products and services rendered to customers, forms of delivery channels and BC's view on banking services and Kiosk-based BC programs.Design/methodology/approachThe current paper is an empirical study based on surveying 200 Kiosk-based BCs working in the state of Kerala. After the preliminary screening analysis of the data with outlier deletion, removal of missing values and normality test, both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were executed followed by reliability test, convergent and discriminant validity tests. Covariance-based structural equation modeling (CBSEM) was performed for CFA and inferential tests were carried out by using statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) and analysis of a moment structures (AMOS) and Eviews.FindingsChiefly, eight operational forms of BCs were found from the field survey. Hypothetical tests show the significant impact of the serviceability of banks on BC's profitability. Validity tests such as average variance extracted (AVE), composite reliability (CR), maximum shared variance (MSV) and average shared variance (ASV) were established after the removal of the cross-loaded items of the questionnaire from the rotated component matrix. BCs perform main banking services especially bank account opening facility and Akshaya E-Centers are widely used for this model as Kiosk banking in the surveyed state.Originality/valueSo far, no study has encompassed empirical research on performance analysis and outreach of the BC model in the state of Kerala where this BC model well functions. Since the study is a novel form of banking channelization for FI, the study can contribute to understanding the further feasibility and future dimension of the model based on experimental views of BCs.

Background: Modified Radical Mastectomy is the widely followed treatment for operable breast cancers. Among the methods used to alleviate pain, irrigation of wound with 0.25% Bupivacaine is one of the under-utilized methods with good efficiency compared to other drugs. Objectives: To evaluate the role of local irrigation of 0.25% bupivacaine in alleviating the post-operative pain. Materials and Methods: This observational study was conducted among 60 female patients who underwent Modified Radical Mastectomy in a tertiary care teaching hospital between January 2017 and July 2018. Thirty (30) patients were randomly allotted to control group, where the routine post-operative pain management was followed. Another 30 were randomly allotted to study group where, before closure of the wound, a 20G scalp vein set was used along the length of the incision with multiple punctures in it for continuous irrigation with 0.25% Bupivacaine. Post operatively Visual analogue scale was used to measure the pain sensation at every six hours for 24 hours. The adverse effects like pain, hematoma, wound dehiscence, infection was noted on all the post-operative days. Results: Both the groups were similar with respect to basic parameters measured. There was a significant reduction in need for rescue analgesia in the study group. There was a significant difference in mean VAS score between both groups from 6 hour of surgery. Post-operative nausea and vomiting was significantly less in the study group. Conclusion: Irrigation of wound with 0.25% Bupivacaine is found to reduce the pain sensation with minimal side effects without systemic compromise. The continual increase in energy demand and inconsistent supply have attracted attention towards sustainable energy storage/conversion devices, such as electrochemical capacitors with high energy densities and power densities. Perovskite oxides have received significant attention as anion-intercalation electrode materials for electrochemical capacitors. In this study, hollow nanospheres of non-stoichiometric cubic perovskite fluorides, KNi1−xCoxF3−δ (x = 0.2; δ = 0.33) (KNCF-0.2) have been synthesized using a localized Ostwald ripening. The electrochemical performance of the non-stoichiometric perovskite has been studied in an aqueous 3 M KOH electrolyte to categorically investigate the fluorine-vacancy-mediated charge storage capabilities. High capacities up to 198.55 mA h g−1 or 714.8 C g−1 (equivalent to 1435 F g−1) have been obtained through oxygen anion-intercalation mechanism (peroxide pathway, O - ). The results have been validated using ICP (inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry) analysis and cyclic voltammetry. An asymmetric supercapacitor device has been fabricated by coupling KNCF-0.2 with activated carbon to deliver a high energy density of 40 W h kg−1 as well as excellent cycling stability of 98% for 10,000 cycles. The special attributes of hollow-spherical, non-stoichiometric perovskite (KNCF-0.2) have exhibited immense promise for their usability as anion-intercalation type electrodes in supercapacitors.

The development of efficient bifunctional catalysts with the properties of high-performance, high-stability, earth-abundant, and low-cost for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER/OER) remains a major challenge. Herein, we have proposed simple strategies to construct an efficient bifunctional catalyst with the above properties with the three different morphologies (i.e., dumbbell, proximal phalanges and cinnamon granola bar-like) of strontium tungstate (SrWO4, SrW) microstructures by the coprecipitation (ST), ultra-sonication (SO), and hydrothermal (HT) methods. The physicochemical properties of SrW were investigated by XRD, Raman, FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM and XPS analysis. Owing to their unique morphologies, the developed SrW catalysts show good HER/OER activity in the alkaline media. In particular, the SO-SrW modified electrode exhibit comparatively better performance with a lower overpotential of 0.66 V at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for HER with a small Tafel slope of 138 mV/dec, and the overpotential is 0.50 V at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for OER with a small Tafel slope of 218 mV/dec in 1 M KOH along with excellent stability. These results suggest that the microstructural properties of SrW have a significant impact on their HER/OER catalytic performances, and provide new insights into the development of SrW-based bifunctional catalysts.

Objective: To formulate and evaluate propranolol hydrochloride topical gel for overcoming the limitations and low oral bioavailability associated with conventional therapy. Methods: The propranolol hydrochloride topical gels were prepared by the cold mechanical method. The preliminary evaluation and further characterisation studies was conducted to find the optimised formulation. The in vitro release and ex vivo permeation studies were investigated. The histopathological studies and stability studies was also assessed. Results: The propranolol hydrochloride topical gel was successfully prepared. The in vitro release of optimized topical propranolol hydrochloride gel formulation (G2) showed the highest cumulative percentage drug release that is, 95.55%±0.15 after 7.5 h. (G2) the formulation showed a higher flux value of 4.61μg/cm2/h. The histopathological study using pig skin revealed that the optimized formulation was found to be safe for topical application. Conclusion: The formulated topical gel containing propranolol Hydrochloride seems to be a promising dosage form for enhanced skin delivery of propranolol hydrochloride in treating Infantile Hemangioma.

International audience; The symmetry or structural stability of ABO(3)-type perovskite oxides depends largely on the size of 'A' and 'B' cations, which determines the material properties. The partial substitution of these cations may be used to tune these properties. The ionic sizes and valence states of the cations play an important role in improving the properties of perovskite. In this study, the substitution of La3+ with Sr2+ with a larger ionic radius and Mn3 + with Fe(3+& nbsp;)with a similar ionic radius favored both the crystal symmetry and the mixed ionic-electronic conductivity of the perovskite. Electrodes based on La0.7Sr0.3Mn0.5Fe0.5O3 (LSMFO55) exhibited a faradaic behavior with a specific capacity of 330 C g(-1) (92 mAh g(-1)) at 12C rate, while this electrode maintained a capacity of 259 C g(-1) at 240C (charge or discharge in 15 s). Additionally, exohedral carbon nano-onions (CNO) were introduced as a negative electrode to design an asymmetric hybrid supercapacitor (AHS) with a widened cell voltage. The use of CNO as a negative electrode in the AHS improved the rate capability drastically compared to the use of rGO. This device maintained a good energy density even at an extra-high charging rate (600C) owing to its outstanding rate capability. The high-rate performance of the LSMFO55//CNO AHS can be elucidated by successful fabrication with a mixed ionic-electronic conductive positive electrode and a CNO negative electrode. Tuning the electronic and ionic conductivities by cationic substitution and adopting an appropriate carbon-derived negative electrode (such as CNO) can provide a practical high-rate hybrid device using various perovskites.

We experimentally demonstrate the integration of silicon-vacancy centers in nanodiamonds (SiV-NDs) with an optical nanofiber (ONF). We grow SiV-NDs on seed NDs dispersed on a quartz substrate using a microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition method. First, we search and characterize SiV-NDs on a quartz substrate using an inverted confocal microscope and an atomic force microscope (AFM). Subsequently, we pick up SiV-NDs from the quartz substrate and deposit them on the surface of a free-standing ONF using the AFM tip. We demonstrate a one-sided cavity on an optical nanofiber (ONF) using a composite method. The one-sided composite cavity is created by mounting an asymmetric defect mode grating on an ONF. We design the one-sided composite cavity on an ONF to enhance channeling efficiency into one side of ONF while operating from under- to critical- and over-coupling regimes using numerical simulations. To determine the prevalence of trachomatous inflammation—follicular (TF), trachomatous trichiasis (TT), water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) access in 131 evaluation units (EUs) after implementation of trachoma elimination interventions in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. A population-based cross-sectional survey was conducted in each EU using the World Health Organization-recommended two-stage cluster-sampling methodology. Twenty-six clusters, each with a mean of 30 households were enumerated in each EU. All residents aged ≥1 year in selected households were examined for TF and TT. Information on WASH access in surveyed households was also collected through questioning the household head and direct observation. A total of 419,858 individuals were enumerated in 131 EUs, of whom 396,134 (94%) were examined, 54% being female. Age-adjusted EU-level prevalence of TF in children aged 1–9 years ranged from 0.15% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.0–0.4) to 37.5% (95% CI: 31.1–43.7). The TF prevalence was

A nanophotonic-based one-sided cavity is demonstrated using a composite technique. The cavity is designed to maximize channeling efficiency into one side of an optical nanofiber. Cavity coupling characteristics exhibited good correspondence with simulation results.

Scientists and researchers are enthusiastically utilizing novel technologies that can substantially reduce energy consumption in diverse thermal systems. The foremost aim of the present investigation is to exploit the potential of nanoparticles on the enhancement of heat transfer characteristics of refrigerant and tribological capabilities of lubricant. Experimental investigations on the forced convection heat transfer characteristics of R134a/SiO2 nanorefrigerant (R134a + SiO2-polyalkylene glycol nanolubricant) are carried out. The effect of particle concentration, heat flux, mass flux, and vapour quality are investigated. The friction reduction and anti-wear properties of the nanolubricant are evaluated using four-ball tribo-tester. The results reveal that the presence of nanoparticles in the refrigerant significantly enhances the heat transfer coefficient of refrigerant and the tribological behaviour of lubricant. The maximum increase in heat transfer coefficient is 163.2% corresponding to a particle concentration of 0.4%. The presence of nanoparticles in refrigerant results in a marginal increase in pressure drop. However, the penalty in pressure drop is insignificant compared to the enhancement in heat transfer. Excellent friction reduction and anti-wear performance are also manifested by the nanolubricant. The maximum reduction in the friction coefficient is 37.76% and that of wear scar diameter is 40.83%. Considering the heat transfer and tribological characteristics, the optimum value of the particle volume fraction is 0.4%. SiO2-PAG nanolubricant can be considered as a potential energy-saving alternative to refrigerant compressor oils.
