In this paper, the likelihood function under progressive Type II censoring is generalized for Marshal-Olkin bivariate class of distributions and applied it on the bivariate Dagum distribution. Maximum likelihood estimation is considered for the model unknown parameters. Asymptotic and bootstrap confidence intervals for the unknown parameters are evaluated under progressive Type II censoring. Bayesian estimation is also considered in both complete and progressive Type II censored samples; moreover, the Bayes estimators are obtained explicitly with respect to square error loss function in both cases. The study of semiparametric families is useful because it provides methods of extending families for adding flexibility in fitting data. The main aim of this paper is to introduce a class of bivariate semiparametric families of distributions. One especial bivariate family of the introduced semiparametric families is discussed in details with its sub-models and different properties. In most of the cases the joint probability distribution, joint distribution and joint hazard functions can be expressed in compact forms. The maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation are considered for the vector of the unknown parameters. For illustrative purposes a data set has been re-analyzed and the performances are quite satisfactory. A simulation study is performed to see the performances of the estimators. Gamma and log-logistic distributions are two popular distributions for analyzing lifetime data. In this paper, the problem of discriminating between these two distribution functions is considered in case of progressive type II censoring. The ratio of the maximized likelihood test (RML) is used to discriminate between them. Some simulation experiments were performed to see how the probability of correct selection (PCS) under each model work for small sample sizes. Real data life is analyzed to see how the proposed method works in practice. As a special case of progressive type II censoring, the problem of discriminating between gamma and log-logistic in case of complete samples is considered. The RML and the ratio of Minimized Kullback-Leibler Divergence (RMKLD) tests are used to discriminate between them. The asymptotic results are used to estimate the PCS which is used to calculate the minimum sample size required for discriminating between two distributions. Two real life data are analyzed.
