6. Innovative determination of phytohormones in Aloe vera

Abstract

IntroductionAloe vera is widely known for its therapeutic properties, but concerns regarding the levels of phytohormones and their potential impact on human health highlight the need for advanced analytical techniques. This study aims to develop and validate a sensitive method for the determination of six key phytohormones in Aloe vera using Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).MethodsA validated LC-MS/MS method was optimized for the determination and quantification of six phytohormones in Aloe vera: Abscisic Acid (ABA), Salicylic Acid (SA), Indole-3-Acetic Acid (I3AA), Gibberellic Acid (GA), 6-Benzylaminopurine (6BAP), and Isopentenyladenine (ISA). The sample extraction process and mobile phase composition were optimized to enhance chromatographic separation and mass spectrometry sensitivity. A C-18 column was used for separation, and a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer was employed for quantification. The method’s performance was assessed in terms of linearity, sensitivity, and limits of detection.ResultsThe LC-MS/MS method exhibited excellent linearity (R2 > 0.99) and low limits of detection for all six phytohormones. Four of the six analytes were identified as predominant in Aloe vera. Quantitative analysis showed that ABA was the most abundant phytohormone, with a median concentration of 8.39 ng/mL, followed by I3AA (4.32 ng/mL), SA (3.16 ng/mL), and GA (1.55 ng/mL).DiscussionThis study provides a comprehensive and validated LC-MS/MS method for profiling phytohormones in Aloe vera. The results underscore the significant role of ABA, I3AA, SA, and GA in the plant's hormonal profile, offering a valuable tool for the analysis of phytohormonal content in Aloe vera and other plant species. The method is particularly beneficial for addressing health-related concerns regarding the presence and concentration of phytohormones in Aloe vera.

11. Effects of circuit training method on reactive agility and endurance in table tennis players

Abstract

Background and Study Aim. Reactive agility and aerobic endurance are crucial physical components for athletes' success in both competitions and training. However, traditional training programs often fail to simultaneously address both components effectively. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a training type using the circuit method to improve reactive agility and aerobic endurance. Material and Methods. This research is an experimental study employing a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants were fourteen junior male athletes aged 15 to 17 years. The training program was conducted three times a week for six weeks and included eight different exercises. The instruments used were table tennis reactive agility measuring devices and the beep test for assessing aerobic endurance. Data were analyzed using the paired sample T-test. Results. The results of the data normality test showed a significance value (Sig.) greater than 0.05, indicating that the data were normally distributed and suitable for further analysis. Subsequent testing for the effectiveness of the exercise regimen using the paired sample T-test revealed significant improvements: reactive agility and aerobic endurance both achieved a p-value of 0.000. Conclusions. The findings indicate that circuit training, involving eight types of exercises, significantly improved the athletes' reactive agility and aerobic capacity. Specifically, there was a notable average increase in both reactive agility and aerobic capacity following the training regimen. These results underscore the potential benefits of employing the circuit training method with eight diverse exercises to enhance performance in table tennis athletes.

Abstract

ObjectivesEndoscopic submucosal dissection is a technically demanding procedure. The pilot study aimed to prospectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel single-operator through-the-scope dynamic traction device among trainees with limited endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) experience.MethodsRandomized, controlled, pilot study comparing traction-assisted ESD (T-ESD) versus conventional ESD (C-ESD) in an ex-vivo porcine stomach model. Trainees were randomized to group 1 (T-ESD followed by C-ESD) and group 2 (C-ESD followed by T-ESD). Lesions were created on the gravity-dependent area of the stomachs. The primary outcome was submucosal dissection speed. Secondary outcomes included differences in en-bloc resection, adverse events, and workload, assessed by the National Aeronautical and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX).ResultsFive trainees performed two T-ESD and two C-ESD each, for a total of 20 procedures. Submucosal dissection speed was significantly faster in the T-ESD group compared to the C-ESD group (43.32 ± 22.61 vs. 24.19 ± 15.86 mm2/min; p = 0.042). En-bloc resection was achieved in 60% with T-ESD and 70% with C-ESD (p = 1.00). The muscle injury rate was higher in the C-ESD group (50% vs. 10%; p = 0.21) with 1 perforation reported with C-ESD and none with T-ESD. NASA-TLX physical demand was lower with T-ESD compared to C-ESD (4.5 ± 2.17 vs. 6.9 ± 2.50; p = 0.03).ConclusionT-ESD resulted in faster submucosal dissection and less physical demand when compared to C-ESD, as performed by trainees in an ex-vivo gravity-dependent model. Future studies are needed to assess its role in human ESD cases.

Abstract

While the literature on RF fingerprinting-based authentication and key distillation is vast, the two topics have customarily been studied separately. In this paper, starting from the observation that the wireless channel is a composite, deterministic / stochastic process, we propose a power domain decomposition that allows performing the two tasks simultaneously. We devise intelligent pre-processing schemes to decompose channel state information (CSI) observation vectors into "predictable" and "unpredictable" components. The former, primarily due to large-scale fading, can be used for node authentication through RF fingerprinting. The latter, primarily due to small-scale fading, could be used for semantically secure secret key generation (SKG). To perform the decomposition, we propose: (i) a fingerprint "separability" criterion, expressed through the maximisation of the total variation distance between the empirical fingerprint measures; (ii) a statistical independence metric for observations collected at different users, expressed through a normalised version of the $d$-dimensional Hilbert Schmidt independence criterion (dHSIC) test statistic. We propose both explicit implementations, using principal component analysis (PCA) and kernel PCA and black-box, unsupervised learning, using autoencoders. Our experiments on synthetic and real CSI datasets showcase that the incorporation of RF fingerprinting and SKG, with explicit security guarantees, is tangible in future generations of wireless.

Abstract

Background and study aims  Mucosal closure after gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) can be difficult due to the thick gastric mucosa. We evaluated the use of a novel through-the-scope (TTS) suture system for G-POEM mucosotomy closure. Patients and methods  This was a single-center prospective study on consecutive patients who underwent G-POEM with TTS suture closure between February 2022 and August 2022. Technical success was defined as complete mucosotomy closure with TTS suture alone. On subgroup analysis, we compared performance on TTS suturing between the advanced endoscopist and the advanced endoscopy fellow (AEF) under supervision. Results  Thirty-six consecutive patients (median age 60 years, interquartile range [IQR] 48.5-67], 72 % women) underwent G-POEM with TTS suture of the mucosotomy. Median mucosal incision length was 2 cm (IQR: 2-2.5). Mean mucosal closure and total procedure time were 17.5 ± 10.8 and 48.4 ± 16.8 minutes, respectively. Technical success was achieved in 24 patients (66.7 %) and 100 % of the cases were adequately closed with a combination of TTS suture and clips. When compared to the advanced endoscopist, the AEF required > 1 TTS suture system for complete closure significantly more frequently (66.7 % vs. 8.3 %, P  = 0.009) and more time for mucosal closure (20.4 ± 12.1 vs. 11.9 ± 4.9 minutes, P  = 0.03). Conclusions  TTS suturing is effective and safe for G-POEM mucosal incision closure. With experience, technical success is high, and most closures may be achieved using a single TTS suture system alone, which has important cost and time implications. Additional comparative trials with other closure devices are need1ed.

This study aims to validate APRI as predictor score for severity of dengue fever so that catastrophic events could be prevented, and early triage can save lives.Methods: The retrospective cross-sectional study was done on dengue positive patients from August to November 2023. APRI score was calculated for every patient at the time of admission. The primary end-point was non-complicated disease (Simple dengue fever) vs complicated disease (dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome). ROC curve was used to identify the role of APRI in prediction of dengue complication. Youden index was used to find the cut-off value of APRI along with sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios. To further evaluate the role of APRI score, patients were divided into two groups, patients with APRI score greater and lesser than cut-off value. The qualitative variables among two groups were compared by chi-square testing. The predictors of complicated dengue were first determined by univariate regression analysis and then confirmed by multivariate regression analysis.Results: The mean APRI score of 135 patients was 20.06 ± 6.31. AUC for APRI score was 0.93 (p < 0.0001) indicating that APRI score calculated at the time of admission is an excellent marker in determining the complicated dengue. The cut-off value for APRI score was 9.04 (sensitivity 84.91%, specificity 89.02%, p < 0.0001). The patients with APRI < 9.04 mostly developed simple dengue fever (54.1%) vs DHF (4.4%) and DSS (1.5%), while patients with APRI > 9.04 had more DHF (20.7%) and DSS (12.6%) vs simple dengue fever (6.7%). None of the patient died with APRI < 9.04 while the mortality rate was 3.7% in patients with APRI > 9.04.Conclusion: The APRI score, calculated at the time of admission, is an excellent marker in determining the severe dengue.Keywords: dengue, severe dengue, dengue hemorrhagic fever, aspartate aminotransferase, ROC curve, area under curve

Abstract

Prophetic communication needs to be reviewed from a historical and axiological perspective. Understanding from a historical point of view means trying to see the Prophet Muhammad as the perpetrator of the history of prophetic communication, reviewing from an axiological point of view to see how far the benefits of this prophetic communication are to human life both personally and communally. Seeing the integration of ethical and aesthetic values that must exist in prophetic communication is the next important part of unraveling prophetic communication from an axiological perspective. The research method used in this research is qualitative with a literature study, analyzing literary references and providing a critical review of prophetic communication in the historical and axiological review of these references. Suppose research on prophetic communication tends to be in the form of implementation. In that case, this research reviews prophetic communication from a historical perspective, which is the initial foundation of prophetic communication, and axiologically to see its application in individual and social aspects more deeply. The ultimate goal resulting from the implementation of prophetic communication is, of course, as we have seen to this day, namely, a change in civilization, specifically the transition from the Jahiliyah era or before the presence of the Prophet SAW to modern life today. The results of this study indicate that prophetic communication is closely related historically and axiologically.

Abstract

Objectives: The study aims to know the evolution of ‌the size of the elderly and their geographical ‌distribution in Anbar Governorate for the period (1997-‌‌2020) By showing the numbers and percentages of the ‌elderly in Anbar Governorate during the study period, ‌and what is the geographical distribution of the elderly ‌‌(65 years and over) in Anbar Governorate.‌Method: The study adopted the historical approach to ‌track the phenomenon to understand the historical path ‌of changing the size of the family, with the regional ‌approach within the administrative boundaries of ‌Anbar.‌Results: The study showed that the number of elderly ‌people increased continuously, reaching (29,616) ‌people, by (2.9%), in 1997, to increase to (40,457) ‌people and by (2.7%), in 2007, then the number ‌reached (41,573) people and by (2.2%), of the total ‌population of the governorate in 2020, as the increase ‌in births led to a decrease in the percentage of the ‌elderly compared to the increase in their numbers. She ‌showed that there is a slight increase in the percentage ‌of elderly people in urban areas compared to rural ‌areas, and this is a result of the provision of services to ‌some extent, especially health care.‌Conclusion: The State shall provide data regarding the ‌inventory and census of the elderly periodically and to ‌know their most prominent problems through field ‌visits through the social researcher, periodically, and ‌increase public services, especially health services for ‌the elderly. And work on creating recreational places, ‌gardens or parks for the elderly, as they are in dire ‌need of a clean atmosphere and a change in their daily ‌routine.‌

With the deployment of 5G networks, standards organizations have started working on the design phase for sixth-generation (6G) networks. 6G networks will be immensely complex, requiring more deployment time, cost and management efforts. On the other hand, mobile network operators demand these networks to be intelligent, self-organizing, and cost-effective to reduce operating expenses (OPEX). Machine learning (ML), a branch of artificial intelligence (AI), is the answer to many of these challenges providing pragmatic solutions, which can entirely change the future of wireless network technologies. By using some case study examples, we briefly examine the most compelling problems, particularly at the physical (PHY) and link layers in cellular networks where ML can bring significant gains. We also review standardization activities in relation to the use of ML in wireless networks and future timeline on readiness of standardization bodies to adapt to these changes. Abstract

Monkeypox, a recently developed viral infectious disease, has become a concern for the general public. This predicament has emerged because of the increased incidence of human monkeypox infections. It was previously a serious zoonotic virus native to just sections of Central and Western Africa and was never recorded outside endemic areas. In this review, the author presented considerable data on this disease and offered a detailed summary of MPXV. More recently, as of October 27, 2022, Monkeypox cases spread quickly across the globe, infecting 76713 people globally, with the majority of cases from Europe, the United Kingdom, North and South America, Asia, and the Middle East. By October 27, 2022, the disease had spread to almost 109 countries. In the United States, there were 28244 (36.82%) cases of Monkeypox; in Brazil, 9045 (11.79%); in Spain, 7317 (9.53%); in the United Kingdom, 3698 (4.82%); in France, 4094 (5.34%); in Germany, 3662 (4.77%); in Colombia, 3298 (4.29%); in Peru, 3048 (3.92%); in Canada, 1436 (1.87%); in Belgium, 786 (1.02%) and Portugal, 944 (1.23%). In terms of the overall number of deaths, 36 deaths were reported, with the maximum eight deaths being from Brazil (22.22%), seven from Nigeria (19.44%), and six deaths from the United States (16.67%). However, human Monkeypox epidemiological trends are rapidly changing, leaving endemic areas and moving to non-endemic countries. Therefore, international health authorities must implement priority-based preventive measures to prevent the spread of Monkeypox infection worldwide.

Abstract

The mushroom growth of cellular users requires novel advancements in the existing cellular infrastructure. One way to handle such a tremendous increase is to densely deploy terrestrial small-cell base stations (TSBSs) with careful management of smart backhaul/fronthaul networks. Nevertheless, terrestrial backhaul hubs significantly suffer from the dense fading environment and are difficult to install in a typical urban environment. Therefore, this paper considers the idea of replacing terrestrial backhaul network with an aerial network consisting of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to provide the fronthaul connectivity between the TSBSs and the ground core-network (GCN). To this end, we focus on the joint positioning of UAVs and the association of TSBSs such that the sum-rate of the overall system is maximized. In particular, the association problem of TSBSs with UAVs is formulated under communication-related constraints, i.e., bandwidth, number of connections to a UAV, power limit, interference threshold, UAV heights, and backhaul data rate. To meet this joint objective, we take advantage of the genetic algorithm (GA) due to the offline nature of our optimization problem. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated using the unsupervised learning-based k-means clustering algorithm. 41. Pulsed Wave Mode of Fractional Radiofrequency Microneedling as a New Advance in the Treatment of Inflammatory Acne Vulgaris

Abstract

Inflammatory acne vulgaris (IAV) is a common skin condition characterized by the presence of reddish, inflamed, and painful lesions on the skin. IAV can drastically affect individuals, specifically their self-esteem, psychological health, and quality of their life in general. Despite new advances in the field, traditional treatment modalities withstand many challenges. Hence, in the current study, we sought to assess the efficacy and safety of a new pulsed wave mode of the fractional microneedling radiofrequency device in the treatment of IAV. This advanced technique employs insulated microneedles to administer energy to the deep dermis without causing damage to the epidermis. Eighty patients (40 males, 40 females, age 21 ± 3, Fitzpatrick skin type III and IV), with acne severity ranging from moderate to severe, were employed in this trial. They were randomly assigned into two groups, 40 patients each. The treated group (A) underwent four sessions of fractionated microneedle RF, 1.5-month apart, whereas group B was designated as the control group that received placebo treatment. Six months following the last session, the degree of improvement assessed by the quantity of IAV lesions and the overall skin appearance in terms of facial pores, sebum excretion, scar, skin tone, and texture. The RF-treated group showed significant improvement compared to the control group after the follow-up period (p-value = 0.0071). Regarding safety, very mild adverse effects were reported, such as discomfort during the session, pinpoint hemorrhage, and erythema, with no major side effects such as burns, scarring, hyperpigmentation, or hypopigmentation were reported. Thus, our data suggest a potential role of the fractional microneedling radiofrequency device in IAV treatment that is both effective and safe.

44. Quality Attributes of Ultrasound-Treated Prebiotic Fibre-Enriched Strawberry Juice

Abstract

Strawberries are amongst the most desirable fruits with a rich flavour, appealing taste, high fibre content and many other health benefits. Diets rich in dietary fibre provide many health benefits. In the present work, strawberry juice was prepared in two batches, one with preservative sodium benzoate (treated) and another without (untreated). Prebiotic fibre i.e., apple pomace was added to both batches in concentrations of 5%, 8%, and 11%. Dietary fibre in both batches was analysed by enzymatic-gravimetric method. The additional analyses included pH, acidity, total soluble solids (TSS), colour, total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant, ascorbic acid, anthocyanin, microbial and sensory parameters. Dietary fibre was increased significantly in all the treatments as well as TS, while pH and acidity were not affected. Ascorbic acid, anthocyanin, antioxidant, total phenolic content, and sensory analysis of treatment 2 (T2, 8% treated) showed the best results. The microbial load on the other hand increased more in the untreated batch. The T2 treatment of both the batches was given ultrasound treatment. The sonication temperature (20 oC), frequency (20 kHz), and power (650 W) were kept the same, and the time was varied (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes). Dietary fibre showed a slight increase as fibre became more soluble by cavitation in sonication while pH acidity and TSS were not significantly affected. Anthocyanin increased, but only at lower sonication times. Antioxidants, total phenols, and colour and sensory parameters were significantly improved with sonication time. Similarly, the microbial load was reduced significantly.

46. Volumetric based mass flow estimation on sugarcane harvesters

Abstract

Yield monitors on harvesters are a key component of precision agriculture. Mass flow estimation is the critical factor to measure, and having this allows for field productivity analysis, adjustments to machine efficiency, and cost minimization by ensuring trucks are filled maximally without exceeding weight limits. Several common technologies used on grain harvesters, including impact plate sensors, are accurate enough on combines to be valuable but suffer from issues such as drift. Sugarcane is composed of a mixture of billets and trash, which is a very dispersed material with much less consistency than grains. In this study, a 3d point cloud approach is used to estimate volume, from which a calibration factor is derived [density] to translate to mass. The system was proved in concept in a controlled environment using bamboo, achieving an R2 of 97.4% when fitting average volume flow per test against average mass flow after correcting for bulk density changes with volume. The system was also tested on field data, which was collected from nearly 1700 wagon loads from the southern U.S. and Brazil over the course of 3 seasons in both green and burnt cane. Results indicated that the concept is very robust with good accuracy, having seasonal CVs for density values ranging from 6.9% to 16.2%. The camera concept proves relatively robust to environmental conditions. 47. Generalizable semi-supervised learning method to estimate mass from sparsely annotated images

Abstract

Mass flow estimation is of great importance to several industries, and it can be quite challenging to obtain accurate estimates due to limitation in expense or general infeasibility. In the context of agricultural applications, yield monitoring is a key component to precision agriculture and mass flow is the critical factor to measure. Measuring mass flow allows for field productivity analysis, cost minimization, and adjustments to machine efficiency. Methods such as volume or force-impact have been used to measure mass flow; however, these methods are limited in application and accuracy. In this work, we use deep learning to develop and test a vision system that can accurately estimate the mass of sugarcane while running in real-time on a sugarcane harvester during operation. The deep learning algorithm that is used to estimate mass flow is trained using very sparsely annotated images (semi-supervised) using only final load weights (aggregated weights over a certain period of time). The deep neural network (DNN) succeeds in capturing the mass of sugarcane accurately and surpasses older volumetric-based methods, despite highly varying lighting and material colors in the images. The deep neural network is initially trained to predict mass on laboratory data (bamboo) and then transfer learning is utilized to apply the same methods to estimate mass of sugarcane.
