A novel paradigm for isolating phenomenal and access consciousness.

This is the first preregistration file of the open-science adversarial collaboration aimed at arbitrating between two leading theories of consciousness: Global Neuronal Workspace and Integrated Information Theory

The study includes two questionnaires, aimed at validating the properties of each of the images of the stimulus bank as well as the relations between the images. The stimulus bank contains two sets of 300 images comprising 375 pairs of images, that are either Associatively related (based on co-occurrence), Abstractly related (are related not based on co-occurrence), or Unrelated.

This experiment aims at assessing the source of an effect found in a previous experiment of ours, in which real objects were less efficiently suppressed by Real-Life Continuous Flash Suppression (Real-Life CFS) than photographic representations of the same objects. Real-Life CFS is a method we developed to suppress objects in the real world from awareness. Here, we use 3D-printed replicas of the objects from our previous experiment, deformed versions of these replicas, and 2D photographs of all the replicas, to find whether the difference in suppression efficiency between 3D objects and 2D photographs stems from low-level visual features or from high-level properties.

Examining the role of N300 and N400 ERP components by presenting scenes in which a target object is manipulated in two ways: congruent vs. incongruent object in a scene, and intact vs. scrambled object in a scene.

The purpose is to examine the effect of context on visual perception using the Kanizsa illusion.

We recently proposed that the influence of misinformation on knowledge might be attributed to the way the mental system detects falsehood and demonstrated that detecting falsehood relies on a mismatch detection between sentence components, rather than on access to accurate knowledge (Weil & Mudrik, 2020). To illustrate, to detect that the sentence “trains run on highways” is false, it is enough to know that trains do not run on highways. It is not required to access the knowledge that trains run on tracks. Accordingly, even if misinformation is identified as false, in the absence of access to the correct answer, people might encode the misinformation and rely on it (Weil, Schul, & Mayo, 2020). The aim of the present research is to provide further evidence for the proposed mismatch detection mechanism. To this end, participants will be presented with true/false sentences and have to indicate as fast and accurately as possible whether the sentence is true/false. Sentence components will appear gradually and will either be shown in matching or mismatching colors. Mis/matching colors of sentence components are assumed to influence the mismatch detection mechanism. Accordingly, when both the colors and the semantic sentence components either match or mismatch, participants should be faster/more accurate in determining the truth-value of the sentence. And when the colors match and the sentence components do not, or vice versa, participants should be slower/less accurate. This would show that people use mismatch detection in order to validate sentences and provide further evidence for the mismatch detection mechanism when people detect falsehood.
