- Abstract
External relative to internal focus instructions have been shown to be more effective for enhancing optimal performance across various motor tasks that do not rely on movement quality or movement form. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of an external versus an internal focus of attention on the motor performance of a gymnastic skill that requires static strength and movement form. Participants with previous experience in aerobic gymnastics were asked to perform an L-support task for 4 seconds in three attentional focus conditions: internal focus, external focus, and control, with the order counter-balanced across focus conditions. Two pieces of yellow tape (2×9 cm) were attached to the gymnasts’ feet on the inner side of the navicular bones. Two pieces of red tape (2×9 cm) were wrapped around the distal phalanx of the big toes of the right and left foot. All participants performed four trials in the external focus (focus on keeping red tape below the yellow tape), internal focus (focus on pointing your toes), and control (no-focus) conditions. The results showed that execution faults were smaller in the external focus condition compared to the internal focus and control conditions. No difference was found between the internal focus and control condition. The findings of this study indicate that the external focus is more beneficial than the internal focus and no-focus control condition for enhancing the performance of a static gymnastic skill that requires static strength and movement form.

There are consistent associations between physical activity and self-perceived health. However, it is not clear whether associations between self-perceived health and participation in physical activity could be accounted for by associations with cognitive function. In the present study, we examined whether associations between physical activity and cognitive functioning could explain the variability between physical activity and self-perceived health. A sample of 204 older adults performed three cognitive tests selected from the Vienna test system battery: The Determination, Cognitrone, and Visual Memory tests. These tests measure general processing speed, attention, and visual memory, respectively. Participants also completed the 12-item Short Form Health Questionnaire SF-12 to measure perceived health, and the Physical Activity Survey for the Elderly to measure physical activity. Linear regressions and the PROCESS macro for SPSS were used to test our hypotheses. Consistent with our hypotheses, processing speed accounted for significant variance in the relationship between physical activity and self-perceived health. This suggests that cognitive processing speed might be an indirect path by which physical activity relates to enhanced health perceptions. The results demonstrate that associations between physical activity and self-perceptions of health are related to a fundamental cognitive process.

MANAGERIALISM ,PERFORMANCE management ,EDUCATIONAL leadership ,HIGHER education ,NEOLIBERALISM - Abstract
The Czech higher educational system has transformed over the past three decades from a state-centred model evolving via strong academic autonomy to the current system, which is characterised by academic freedom but also heightened pressure to produce measurable research output. The purpose of this study was to explore how Czech academic middle managers relate to this emerging managerialism in their faculties. We conducted 31 interviews with Heads of Departments (HoDs) and, using thematic analysis, we identified three central themes. First, despite their enhanced managerial tasks, the HoDs strongly identified themselves as researchers. Second, the HoDs instrumentally adopted certain managerialist practices congruent with their values as academic professionals with a primary focus on increasing research performance and the ability to acquire additional financing through grants. Third, the HoDs used practices to lessen the negative effects of managerialist pressures, such as diverting the administrative overload from academics. In conclusion, academic middle managers supported performance management even though existing structural differences benefited certain departments more than others. Paradoxically, the HoDs more likely to succeed in the quantitative assessment appeared to be in a better position to buffer some of the negative impacts of the managerialist reforms. CAREER development , *INDUSTRIAL psychology , *SCIENTIFIC community , *COMMUNITY organization , *SOCIAL science research - Abstract
The aim of this integrative review is to analyze the contemporary research on individual and social conditions shaping a successful professional development of early career researchers. In this analysis, authors explore two lines of research, a sociological and a psychological. From the sociological perspective, the development of research excellence is determined by social-organizational processes of "cumulative advantage" (Merton, 1988) which enable the development of selected individuals towards research excellence by an unequal distribution of available resources. From the psychological perspective, successful development of research excellence is determined by individual characteristics, such as motivation or individual activity in the academic community and research organization, which authors review within the organizational psychology framework of "job crafting" (Tims, Bakker, 2010). On this basis, authors propose an argument for an integrative "systemic" approach that merges these two perspectives into a unified framework in which authors seek a balanced view of socialorganizational and individual-psychological processes and their mutual interactions. This systemic framework suggests that individual researchers striving for research excellence need not only to exhibit a high level of motivation and research-related activity but also engage in active creating of their position in academic community and research organization that allow them to participate in the processes of cumulative advantage. On the other hand, the research institutions should strive to mitigate the processes of cumulative advantage as these processes increase inequalities between the academics as well as institutions, distort the competition for available resources and in this way negatively affect the quality of research environment. - Abstract
Politolog, ekonom a sociolog v jedné osobě, socioložka a psycholog zde předkládají empiricky podloženou kritiku sedmi hlavních mýtů o péči o malé děti reprodukovaných v české společnosti.

PSYCHOLOGICAL burnout , *UNIVERSITY faculty , *FAMILY-work relationship , *WORK environment , *PSYCHOSOCIAL factors - Abstract
This study examined both direct and indirect associations of faculty burnout with psychosocial work environments, using the job resources-demands framework. A sample of 2,229 faculty members (57.1% male) throughout public universities in the Czech Republic completed a questionnaire comprising measures of burnout and psychosocial work environment characteristics from the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire II. We formulated a structural model that hypothesised a positive effect of job demands (quantitative demands, work-family conflict (WFC), job insecurity) and a negative effect of job resources (influence, social community, role clarity) on burnout. Results showed that the strongest predictor of burnout was WFC, which had a direct positive effect on burnout and mediated the positive effect of quantitative demands on burnout. Further, a small direct negative effect of age and an indirect positive effect of involvement in research grants and administrative paperwork on burnout were observed. The findings indicate that university management can most effectively address burnout in academic staff not only by implementing policies that reduce WFC, workload and administrative paperwork, but also by providing more job resources to younger faculty and faculty involved in grant-based projects. - Abstract
Objectives. International research shows that performance enhancing drugs (PED) represent a serious problem both in competitive and leisure sports, affecting not only adults but adolescent athletes as well. However, no recent studies of doping in adolescents are available in the Czech context. The aim of the study (conducted with a support of the World Anti-Doping Agency) is to explore the prevalence of doping in Czech adolescents and their attitudes toward doping. Sample and setting. 2851 Czech adolescents (mean age 16.2 years) participated in a questionnaire survey assessing their experience with doping and attitudes towards doping. Results. Czech adolescents reported relatively high level of doping in comparison with international studies: 8% of the respondents reported having had at least one-time experience with doping, and more than twice as much (16.9%) reported having been offered doping at least once. Doping was reported significantly more frequently by men, students of vocational schools, and students of sport schools. The highest prevalence of doping (12.3%) was found in elite athletes, followed by leisure athletes (8.9%). Doping was most frequently offered to elite athletes and competitive athletes: 25% of elite athletes reported having been offered doping at least once. In general, respondents reported negative attitudes towards doping. However, these attitudes were relatively positive compared to results of international studies. More negative attitudes towards doping were reported by older respondents, participating in sports more frequently, and at a higher level, coming from families of more educated and physically active parents. Study limitation. Results suggest that doping represents a risk behavior prevalent in a relative large portion of Czech adolescent population. However, the results are limited by using a questionnaire, the self-report method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aim of the article is to introduce and critically reflect on three theoretical approaches representing three different psychological constructions of human potential to learn; we label them theories of giftedness, theories of preparation, and theories of motivation. The authors focus on the ways in which the approaches have been construed and explore their philosophical and methodological background. Furthermore, the authors show how the approaches generalize their conclusions and on this basis recommend various educational practices and provide different interpretations of situations emerging in the educational context. Finally, the authors discuss that the approaches are a part of various discourses of human nature influenced by different ideological perspectives. In this way, their conclusions may favor or discriminate against various groups of students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to examine both direct and indirect associations of the personality traits of extraversion, neuroticism and conscientiousness with life satisfaction through work engagement and job satisfaction. The study population consisted of 2229 academics (57.1% men) throughout Czech public universities, who completed a questionnaire comprising measures of employee personality traits (BFI-10), work engagement (Utrecht Work Engagement Scale short form), job satisfaction (job satisfaction short scale from the COPSOQ-II) and general life satisfaction (Satisfaction With Life Scale). Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the relationships. The strongest predictor of life satisfaction was neuroticism, the effect of which manifested itself through both direct and indirect pathways. Extraversion and conscientiousness had positive indirect influences on job satisfaction through work engagement, but their direct influences on job satisfaction were negative. While extraversion also had a direct influence on life satisfaction, conscientiousness did not directly influence life satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The popularity and usage of social networking sites (SNS) are constantly on the rise, mainly among adolescents. Nowadays kids and adolescents probably don't even remember the world without the internet and smartphones. This fact has an impact on their development, mostly during adolescence. The main task during adolescence, mainly during late adolescence, is identity achievement. This process is realized through identity experiments, self-presentation, getting feedback from others, and the peer-socialization. The environment of social media is ideal for all these processes. Thus, my thesis aims to find answers to questions considering the impact of SNS in process of identity formation. To complete the aim of my work I've chosen the concept of identity and its status proposed by James Marcia and I investigated the SNS behavior via the process of self-presentation and its relatedness to the statuses of identity. In the theoretical part, I am focusing on the complex term of identity, possible definitions of identity, and on key developmental tasks with a focus on identity development and its predictors. I focus on the definitions of SNS, its up-to-date popularity among adolescents, and the characteristics of the most used SNS. The last chapter is dedicated to the relationship between online and...

The content of the literary-review part of the diploma thesis will be devoted to dysfunctional family systems in which the basic needs of the child are not met. It will also address the key areas of development for understanding the child's experience within individual ages of development up to adolescence. Attention will also be paid to coping strategies and child support resources during development. The research survey will consider the qualitative design, which will take place through an interview with the help of adolescents. The target group will be adolescents who grew up in a dysfunctional family environment. The aim of this research will be to describe the experience of adolescents in dysfunctional family systems. Thanks to the research part, the elaboration of this diploma thesis can be a tool for understanding the feelings and experiences of children who grew up in this environment. It can thus be applied in working with adolescents, but also with the parents of these children. At the same time, it can be a source for the prevention of mental decompensation and the possible development of more serious mental problems. The thesis focuses on the construct of resilience, which is conceptualised as a process of adaptation to adversity, and examines it in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in people over 60 years of age. The aim of this thesis is to understand resilience over time during a crisis in the statistically most at-risk age group. In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of this construct, the literature review section includes historical and theoretical insights along with recent research findings. The thesis describes the mechanisms, specifically cognitive appraisal, emotion regulation, and the ironing effect, that are thought to be key in the resilience process, and the findings from investigations of the specifics of resilience in older age, crisis, and a combination of the two. The empirical part presents the conducted mix-method research, in which the quantitative part was conducted first, from which a part of respondents was selected for the qualitative research. In the first part quantitative data were collected through the CD-RISC-25 scale, and in the second part a total of 15 semi-structured interviews were conducted, selected according to the scores on the CD-RISC-25 scale. The results of the exploratory analysis of the quantitative data and the thematic analysis of the qualitative data showed...

Title: Performance motivation and competitive anxiety of ice hockey players Objectives: The main goal of this final work is to find out how the performance motivation of athletes is related to the emotional consequences of their participation in sports, their interest, but also anxiety or negative emotions related to burnout. Methods: This is a quantitative questionnaire study in which 53 professional or semi- professional ice hockey players participated. Participants completed a questionnaire battery examining various aspects of their performance motivation (Perception of Success Questionnaire, Dweck Mindset Instrument, Sport motivation scale-6), positive and negative emotions related to their sports activity (Athlete Engagement Questionnaire, Athlete Burnout Questionnaire, Competitive State Anxiety Inventory) and the team cohesion (Youth Sport Environment Questionnaire). Subsequently, the data were processed by Spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: High values were measured for determination, integrated regulation, internal motivation and task orientation. Low values occurred in burnout and amotivation. The results show that in athletes, interest predominates over burnout and task orientation outweigh ego orientation. As a result, they tend to improve....

Situational Action Theory|moral foundations|interaction ,Situational Action Theory|morální základy|interakce - Abstract
How are morality, self-control, and adolescent crime rates related? Based on the current state of knowledge, morality and self-control are important predictors of criminal behaviour, and their interaction is crucial (assumptions of the Situational Action Theory and partially General Theory of Crime). This thesis aims to test the abovementioned relationships among adolescents in the Czech Republic and further examine hypotheses aimed at better understanding the relationship between the structure of moral foundations (Moral Foundations Theory) to self-control and crime. Based on a questionnaire survey of 110 adolescents (15-25 years old) in the Czech Republic, the hypotheses that adolescents with higher levels of morality and self-control are less likely to commit a crime and that the so-called "individualising" moral motive is related to higher levels of self- control and lower rates of crime were supported. The result of this study is that when the adolescent's morality is high, he or she does not "need" self-control not to commit a crime; on the contrary, when the adolescent's level of morality is low, self-control plays an important role. Title: Burnout Syndrome among Teachers Objectives: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to analyse the burnout syndrome from the point of view of teachers who do not suffer from this syndrome. These teachers explain how they proceed to cope with a difficult period or different kinds of problems they are sometimes facing and how they manage to see their job as their personal fulfilment. Methods: The method used is Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Data were collected during semi-structured interviews with four respondents. These interviews were recorded on a phone, transcribed word by word and then analysed. Results: The most important topics that resulted from the answers of responding teachers are: 1) Students as the main purpose of the job, 2) Shift in the point of view as a solution to the problem, 3) On-line life, lack of time and disillusionment of teachers, 4) Personal characteristics as a determining factor for the selection of suitable subject. These topics were selected as main topics because they had a considerable impact on working practices of each teacher, which is evident from the analysis of their answers using the chosen method (IPA). Conclusion: To sum up, while analysing the burnout syndrome, it is important to take into account individual characteristics of...
