Objective: Rare coexistence of disease or pathology Background: Epithelial neoplasms are the most common and heterogenous group of ovarian tumors. Approximately 10- 15% are primary ovarian mucinous neoplasms. Almost 80% of these consist of benign mucinous neoplasms, while the rest are borderline neoplasms, non-invasive (intraepithelial and intraglandular) carcinomas, and invasive carcinomas. Small ovarian cystadenomas are generally asymptomatic and are mainly found incidentally during an ultrasound examination for another gynecologic disorder. As their size increases, nonspecific symptoms and clinical signs develop as a result of mass effect to adjacent structures or because of tumor torsion. The main clinical symptoms are abdominal and/or pelvic pain, fullness, and discomfort. Large cystadenomas have also been associated with nausea and vomiting, urinary problems, persistent cough, back pain, metrorrhagia, and feminization. Case Report: We report a case of a 31-year-old woman with a body mass index of 39 who presented with increasing sacrococcygeal pain and right leg paresthesia over a 2-year period. She was treated for possible musculoskeletal and spine problems. She was finally diagnosed with a large right ovarian mucinous cystadenoma expanding in the sacrococcygeal region. She was successfully treated with complete excision of the tumor and achieved complete remission of all her symptoms. Conclusions: Large ovarian mucinous cystadenomas, which develop in the sacrococcygeal region, can lead to symptoms that mimic musculoskeletal and spine problems. Early diagnosis is of great importance towards the goal of implementing proper therapeutic approaches and achieve complete remission of all clinical symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVES Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma exhibits distinct prognostic outcomes compared to non-mucinous adenocarcinoma (ADC). This study investigated and compared the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors of invasive mucinous and non-mucinous ADC patients. METHODS This retrospective study included patients who underwent curative surgery for ADC between 2011 and 2021. Patient characteristics were balanced using propensity score matching. Cumulative incidence was analysed to evaluate cancer recurrence incidence, and the Kaplan–Meier method was used to calculate overall survival (OS) for each group. RESULTS A total of 6101 patients were included. After matching, the non-mucinous group and mucinous groups comprised 798 and 408 patients, respectively. The patients in the mucinous group had a lower recurrence incidence than those in the non-mucinous group (P  = 0.014). The recurrence incidence in the mucinous group was between those of grades 1 (P  = 0.011) and 2 (P  = 0.012) and the OS rates were comparable to those of grades 2 (P  = 0.6) and 3 (P  = 0.2). Multivariable analysis revealed that the maximal standardized uptake value [hazard ratio (HR): 1.13, P  = 0.11] and progressed pathological stages (pStage II, HR: 3.9, P  = 0.028; pStage III, HR: 8.33, P  = 0.038) served as adverse prognostic factors for the mucinous group. CONCLUSIONS Patients with mucinous ADC demonstrated lower recurrence incidence and similar OS rates compared to those with non-mucinous ADC. The recurrence incidence of mucinous ADC was between those of International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer grades 1 and 2, with the OS rates comparable to those of grades 2 and 3. Purpose: Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) of the lungs is a rare subtype of lung adenocarcinoma with a limited understanding of its prognosis, particularly in advanced stages. This study aimed to assess the prognosis of patients with advanced IMA by focusing on treatment modalities. Methods: This single-center retrospective study evaluated 33 patients with IMAs diagnosed with advanced-stage disease or disease progression after curative treatment between 2011 and 2021. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS), and the secondary outcome was progression-free survival (PFS). OS and PFS were calculated from the date of the diagnosis of advanced IMA. Results: The study cohort included 13 patients at the initial advanced stage and 20 patients who progressed after curative treatment. Treatment modalities included conventional chemotherapy in 24 patients (72.7%), targeted therapy in seven (21.2%), immunotherapy in 13 (39.4%), and local ablative therapy (LAT) in 13 (39.4%). The median OS was 32 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.9–61.0), with LAT significantly associated with improved OS compared to non-LAT treatment (not reached vs. 11.3 months, p = 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in OS based on conventional chemotherapy (p = 0.396), targeted therapy (p = 0.655), or immunotherapy (p = 0.992). In multivariate analysis, LAT remained an independent prognostic factor for OS (hazard ratio, 0.125; 95% CI, 0.026–0.608; p = 0.01). PFS was 8.6 months (95% CI, 3.6–13.7), with no significant differences observed among the treatment modalities. Background The diagnostic criteria for lateral lymph node metastasis in rectal cancer have not been established. This research aimed to investigate the risk factors for lateral lymph node metastasis and develop machine learning models combining these risk factors to improve the diagnostic performance of standard imaging. Method This multicentre prospective study included patients who underwent lateral lymph node dissection without preoperative treatment for rectal cancer between 2017 and 2019 in 15 Japanese institutions. First, preoperative clinicopathological factors and magnetic resonance imaging findings were evaluated using multivariable analyses for their correlation with lateral lymph node metastasis. Next, machine learning diagnostic models for lateral lymph node metastasis were developed combining these risk factors. The models were tested in a training set and in an internal validation cohort and their diagnostic performance was tested using receiver operating characteristic curve analyses. Results Of 212 rectal cancers, 122 patients were selected, including 232 lateral pelvic sides, 30 sides of which had pathological lateral lymph node metastasis. Multivariable analysis revealed that poorly differentiated/mucinous adenocarcinoma, extramural vascular invasion, tumour deposit and a short-axis diameter of lateral lymph node ≥ 6.0 mm were independent risk factors for lateral lymph node metastasis. Patients were randomly divided into a training cohort (139 sides) and a test cohort (93 sides) and machine learning models were computed on the basis of a combination of significant features (including: histological type, extramural vascular invasion, tumour deposit, short- and long-axis diameter of lateral lymph node, body mass index, serum carcinoembryonic antigen level, cT, cN, cM, irregular border and mixed signal intensity). The top three models with the highest sensitivity in the training cohort were as follows: support vector machine (sensitivity, 1.000; specificity, 0.773), light gradient boosting machine (sensitivity, 0.950; specificity, 0.918) and ensemble learning (sensitivity, 0.950; specificity, 0.917). The diagnostic performances of these models in the test cohort were as follows: support vector machine (sensitivity, 0.750; specificity, 0.667), light gradient boosting machine (sensitivity, 0.500; specificity, 0.852) and ensemble learning (sensitivity, 0.667; specificity, 0.864). BackgroundThere is a paucity of targeted therapies for patients with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) secondary to low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMNs). Dysregulated metabolism has emerged as a hallmark of cancer, and the relationship of metabolomics and cancer is an area of active scientific exploration. We sought to characterize phenotypic differences found in peritoneal metastases (PM) derived from LAMN versus adenocarcinoma.MethodsTumors were washed with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), microdissected, then dissociated in ice-cold methanol dried and reconstituted in pyridine. Samples were derivatized in tert-butyldimethylsilyl (TBDMS) and subjected to gas chromatography-coupled mass spectrometry. Metabolites were assessed based on a standard library. RNA sequencing was performed, with pathway and network analyses on differentially expressed genes.ResultsEight peritoneal tumor samples were obtained and analyzed: LAMNs (4), and moderate to poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (colon [1], appendix [3]). Decreases in pyroglutamate, fumarate, and cysteine in PM from LAMNs were found compared with adenocarcinoma. Analyses showed the differential gene expression was dominated by the prevalence of metabolic pathways, particularly lipid metabolism. The gene retinol saturase (RETSAT), downregulated by LAMN, was involved in the multiple metabolic pathways that involve lipids. Using network mapping, we found IL1B signaling to be a potential top-level modulation candidate.ConclusionsDistinct metabolic signatures may exist for PM from LAMN versus adenocarcinoma. A multitude of genes are differentially regulated, many of which are involved in metabolic pathways. Additional research is needed to identify the significance and applicability of targeting metabolic pathways in the potential development of novel therapeutics for these challenging tumors.

Abstract Background Pseudomyxoma peritonei is an infrequent condition with a global annual incidence of only one to two cases per million people. Mucinous neoplasms, widespread intraperitoneal implants, and mucinous ascites characterize it. Currently, most clinicians misdiagnose this condition, which leads to delayed management. Case presentation A 44-year-old North Indian female presented with a 1.5-month history of an abdominal lump. Physical examination revealed a sizeable abdominopelvic mass at 36 weeks. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a massive multiloculated right ovarian cystic mass measuring 28 × 23 × 13 cm with mild ascites and elevated carcinoembryonic antigen levels (113.75 ng/ml). A provisional diagnosis of ovarian mucinous neoplasm was made, for which the patient underwent laparotomy. Intraoperatively, there were gross mucinous ascites, along with a large, circumscribed, ruptured right ovarian tumor filled with gelatinous material. The appendicular lump was also filled with mucinous material along with the omentum, ascending colon, right lateral aspect of the rectum, splenic surface, and small bowel mesentery. Cytoreductive surgery was performed along with an oncosurgeon, including total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingoophorectomy, omentectomy, right hemicolectomy, lower anterior resection, ileo-transverse stapled anastomosis with proximal ileal loop diversion stoma, excision of multiple peritoneal gelatinous implants, and peritoneal lavage. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the presence of intestinal-type mucinous carcinoma. Postoperatively, the patient was given six cycles of chemotherapy. She tolerated it without any specific morbidity and had an uneventful recovery. Postoperative follow-up at 15 months revealed normal tumor marker levels and abdominal computed tomography findings and no signs suggestive of local recurrence or distal metastases. Conclusions Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare disease that is frequently misdiagnosed in the preoperative phase. Therefore, radiologists and clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion for accurate diagnosis and multidisciplinary management.

Abstract Background Mature cystic teratoma co-existing with a mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is a rare tumor that few cases have been reported until now. In these cases, either a benign teratoma is malignantly transformed into adenocarcinoma or a collision tumor is formed between a mature cystic teratoma and a mucinous tumor, which is either primarily originated from epithelial-stromal surface of the ovary, or secondary to a primary gastrointestinal tract tumor. The significance of individualizing the two tumors has a remarkable effect on further therapeutic management. Case presentation In this case, a mature cystic teratoma is co-existed with a mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in the same ovary in a 33-year-old Iranian female. Computed Tomography (CT) Scan with additional contrast of the left ovarian mass suggested a teratoma, whereas examination of resected ovarian mass reported an adenocarcinoma with a cystic teratoma. A dermoid cyst with another multi-septate cystic lesion including mucoid material was revealed in the gross examination of the surgical specimen. Histopathological examination revealed a mature cystic teratoma in association with a well-differentiated mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. The latter showed a CK7−/CK20 + immune profile. Due to the lack of clinical, radiological, and biochemical discoveries attributed to a primary lower gastrointestinal tract tumor, the immune profile proposed the chance of adenocarcinomatous transformation of a benign teratoma. Conclusions This case shows the significance of large sampling, precise recording of the gross aspects, histopathological examination, immunohistochemical analysis, and the help of radiological and clinical results to correctly diagnose uncommon tumors.

Accurate stratification of an ovarian mucinous neoplasm as primary or secondary is always challenging as they show overlapping histomorphological and immunohistochemical features. Immunohistochemical staining for SATB2 and PAX8 was performed on 80 cases of mucinous ovarian neoplasms subdivided into 53 primary [25 primary ovarian mucinous carcinomas (POMCs) and 28 mucinous borderline tumors (MBTs)] and 27 secondary (12 of colonic origin, 7 of appendiceal origin, and 8 of gastric origin). Expression was correlated with different clinicopathologic parameters. PAX8‐positive immunostaining was detected in 38 out of 53 cases (71.69%) of primary ovarian mucinous neoplasms (POMNs) with null positivity in the secondary ovarian mucinous tumors (0/27). SATB2‐positive expression was detected in 16 out of 27 cases (59.26%) of the secondary ovarian mucinous tumors. None of the studied POMNs showed any positive immunostaining for SATB2 (0/53). A profile of SATB2−/PAX8+ and SATB2+/PAX8− can be used to differentiate POMNCs from secondary ovarian mucinous tumors of GI origin, respectively, with 100% specificity. Background: Mucinous appendiceal adenocarcinomas (MAA) and non-mucinous appendiceal adenocarcinomas (NMAA) demonstrate differences in rates and patterns of recurrence, which may inform the appropriate extent of surgical resection (i.e., appendectomy versus colectomy). The impact of extent of resection on disease-specific survival (DSS) for each histologic subtype was assessed. Patients and Methods: Patients with resected, non-metastatic MAA and NMAA were identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2000–2020). Multivariable models were created to examine predictors of colectomy for each histologic subtype. DSS was calculated using Kaplan–Meier estimates and examined using Cox proportional hazards modeling. Results: Among 4674 patients (MAA: n = 1990, 42.6%; NMAA: n = 2684, 57.4%), the majority (67.8%) underwent colectomy. Among colectomy patients, the rate of nodal positivity increased with higher T-stage (MAA: T1: 4.6%, T2: 4.0%, T3: 17.1%, T4: 21.6%, p < 0.001; NMAA: T1: 6.8%, T2: 11.4%, T3: 25.6%, T4: 43.8%, p < 0.001) and higher tumor grade (MAA: well differentiated: 7.7%, moderately differentiated: 19.2%, and poorly differentiated: 31.3%; NMAA: well differentiated: 9.0%, moderately differentiated: 20.5%, and 44.4%; p < 0.001). Nodal positivity was more frequently observed in NMAA (27.6% versus 16.4%, p < 0.001). Utilization of colectomy was associated with improved DSS for NMAA patients with T2 (log rank p = 0.095) and T3 (log rank p = 0.018) tumors as well as moderately differentiated histology (log rank p = 0.006). Utilization of colectomy was not associated with improved DSS for MAA patients, which was confirmed in a multivariable model for T-stage, grade, and use of adjuvant chemotherapy [hazard ratio (HR) 1.00, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.81–1.22]. Purpose: Accurate staging of ovarian cancer is critical to guide optimal management pathways. North American guidelines recommend contrast-enhanced CT as the primary work-up for staging ovarian cancer. This meta-analysis aims to compare the diagnostic accuracy of contrast-enhanced CT alone to PET/CT for detecting abdominal metastases in patients with a new or suspected diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Materials and methods: A systematic review of MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, and the gray literature from inception to October 2022 was performed. Studies with a minimum of 5 patients evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of contrast-enhanced CT and/or PET/CT for detecting stage 3 ovarian cancer as defined by a surgical/histopathological reference standard ± clinical follow-up were included. Study, clinical, imaging, and accuracy data for eligible studies were independently acquired by two reviewers. Primary meta-analysis was performed in studies reporting accuracy on a per-patient basis using a bivariate mixed-effects regression model. Risk of bias was evaluated using QUADAS-2. Results: From 3701 citations, 15 studies (918 patients with mean age ranging from 51 to 65 years) were included in the systematic review. Twelve studies evaluated contrast-enhanced CT (6 using a per-patient assessment and 6 using a per-region assessment) and 11 studies evaluated PET/CT (7 using a per-patient assessment and 4 using a per-region assessment). All but one reporting study used consensus reading. Respective sensitivity and specificity values on a per-patient basis were 82% (67–91%, 95% CI) and 72% (59–82%) for contrast-enhanced CT and 87% (75–94%) and 90% (82–95%) for PET/CT. There was no significant difference in sensitivities between modalities (p = 0.29), but PET/CT was significantly more specific than CT (p < 0.01). Presumed variability could not be assessed in any single category due to limited studies using per-patient assessment. Studies were almost entirely low risk for bias and applicability concerns using QUADAS-2. Conclusion: Contrast-enhanced CT demonstrates non-inferior sensitivity compared to PET/CT, although PET/CT may still serve as an alternative and/or supplement to CT alone prior to and/or in lieu of diagnostic laparoscopy in patients with ovarian cancer. Purpose of review: The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of ten unique breast cancer subtypes and their clinicopathologic features and treatment implications. Recent findings: Recent findings show that while many subtypes (mucinous, papillary, tubular, apocrine) have favorable biology, with better overall survival than invasive ductal carcinoma, some (metaplastic, adenoid cystic) are more aggressive portending worse prognosis for patients. Summary: The differences in histology represented in these breast cancer subtypes often impacts biology, behavior, and prognosis. Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare condition, first described by Werth in 1884 in association with ascites and ovarian mucinous tumors, and later in 1901 by Frankel, associated with appendicular mucinous tumors. High prevalence of mutations in the K-RAS and TP53 genes has been observed in patients with low-grade PMP, triggering proliferation and excessive mucus production. Studies have shown that the peritoneal cavity, especially the hepatic surface, is the main site for deposition of these tumors. Computed tomography is considered the gold standard for diagnosis, while magnetic resonance imaging is more sensitive for detecting the tumor origin and assessing disease extent. Although exploratory laparotomy is the traditional method for biopsy, less invasive alternatives such as ultrasound-guided and computed tomography-guided biopsy are being explored, which have proven to be effective. The differential diagnosis includes endometriosis and mixoid tumors, with emphasis on mesentery invasion and cystic characteristics. Recognizing differences in advanced stages is crucial, as PMP tends to invade organs from the outside, while mixoid tumors present distant solid metastases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This case report highlights the management of complications from an open abdomen following surgery for ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma, a rare subtype of ovarian cancer. A 63-year-old female underwent extensive surgery, including single-port laparoscopic total bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, right hemicolectomy, small bowel resection, cholecystectomy, and jejunostomy. Postoperatively, she experienced bile leakage, leading to significant skin and fascial damage and an abdominal skin defect. Early detection and multidisciplinary management were crucial. Treatment involved vacuum-assisted closure dressing, repeated debridement, and closure of the open abdomen with a local flap. This case emphasizes the complexities of managing ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma and the critical role of a multidisciplinary approach in treating postoperative complications, underscoring the importance of vigilant postoperative care and timely intervention. Abstract Background Mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma is a rare renal tumor. It has been recognized as a distinct entity in the 2004 World Health Organization tumor classification. Since then, several dozen of these tumor have been reported with additional complementary morphologic characteristics, immunohistochemical profile, and molecular genetic features that have further clarified its clinicopathologic aspects. Case presentation We report the case of a 52-year-old male African patient who was found to have a mucinous tubular and spindle renal cell carcinoma on a nephrectomy specimen for a severe kidney trauma. Conclusions This tumor has a histological spectrum ranging from low to high grade, which includes sarcomatoid differentiation that can confer the tumor an aggressive clinical course.

Modern series report a prevalence of pancreatic cysts in the general population of up to 50% in prospective studies. Of these, about half will be pancreatic cystic neoplasms (PCNs) that have varying degrees of malignant potential. Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) of the pancreas are the most common PCNs and are known predecessors of pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Critically, they are one of the only radiographically identifiable precursors of pancreatic cancer and thus provide an opportunity for early cancer detection and surgical resection with curative intent. The combination of high prevalence and potential for malignant degeneration underscore the relevance of discussing the best management of IPMNs and improving the existing standard of care. Landmark data on IPMN prevalence, guidelines, surveillance, biomarkers, and immune landscape are highlighted.

Ovarian mature teratomas are benign, but malignant transformation can occur infrequently, especially in women of advanced age. The tissue that undergoes malignant change is mostly squamous cell carcinoma, although adenocarcinoma has been reported in a small number of cases. The immunostaining results of adenocarcinoma usually show a cytokeratin (CK)7−/CK20+ expression profile, corresponding to lower gastrointestinal tract origin. In this report, we describe a case of mucinous carcinoma arising from an ovarian mature teratoma showing a CK7+/CK20+ profile and discuss its imaging features. A 40-year-old woman presented to her primary care physician with abdominal distension and poor oral intake, and she was referred to our hospital. She had been diagnosed with an ovarian mature teratoma at our institution 3 years earlier. At the current presentation, pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed a large multilocular cystic mass with adipose tissue extending into the upper abdomen. Densely packed cysts were observed inside the mass, which showed weak contrast enhancement on contrast-enhanced imaging and a mildly high signal on diffusion-weighted imaging. A portion of the cysts also showed abnormal 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake (maximum standardized uptake value, 13.2) on positron emission tomography/computed tomography. The patient was subsequently diagnosed with mucinous carcinoma showing a CK7+/CK20+ profile arising from a mature teratoma by pathologic examination. This mucinous carcinoma arising from a mature teratoma showed a CK7+/CK20+ profile and took the form of densely packed multilocular cysts. In this respect, it was similar to primary ovarian epithelial mucinous carcinoma on both magnetic resonance imaging and pathologic examination despite showing a much higher maximum standardized uptake value than that of primary ovarian mucinous carcinoma. When a large ovarian teratoma contains a large multilocular cyst, the presence of densely packed multilocular cysts should not be missed even in a mass without solid components. Clinicians should consider the possibility of mucinous carcinoma showing a CK7+/CK20+ profile arising from a mature teratoma in such cases.

PurposeAdvanced-stage mucinous ovarian carcinoma (MOC) has poor chemotherapy response and prognosis and lacks biomarkers to aid stage I adjuvant treatment. Differentiating primary MOC from gastrointestinal (GI) metastases to the ovary is also challenging due to phenotypic similarities. Clinicopathologic and gene-expression data were analyzed to identify prognostic and diagnostic features.Experimental designDiscovery analyses selected 19 genes with prognostic/diagnostic potential. Validation was performed through the Ovarian Tumor Tissue Analysis consortium and GI cancer biobanks comprising 604 patients with MOC (n = 333), mucinous borderline ovarian tumors (MBOT, n = 151), and upper GI (n = 65) and lower GI tumors (n = 55).ResultsInfiltrative pattern of invasion was associated with decreased overall survival (OS) within 2 years from diagnosis, compared with expansile pattern in stage I MOC [hazard ratio (HR), 2.77; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.04-7.41, P = 0.042]. Increased expression of THBS2 and TAGLN was associated with shorter OS in MOC patients (HR, 1.25; 95% CI, 1.04-1.51, P = 0.016) and (HR, 1.21; 95% CI, 1.01-1.45, P = 0.043), respectively. ERBB2 (HER2) amplification or high mRNA expression was evident in 64 of 243 (26%) of MOCs, but only 8 of 243 (3%) were also infiltrative (4/39, 10%) or stage III/IV (4/31, 13%).ConclusionsAn infiltrative growth pattern infers poor prognosis within 2 years from diagnosis and may help select stage I patients for adjuvant therapy. High expression of THBS2 and TAGLN in MOC confers an adverse prognosis and is upregulated in the infiltrative subtype, which warrants further investigation. Anti-HER2 therapy should be investigated in a subset of patients. MOC samples clustered with upper GI, yet markers to differentiate these entities remain elusive, suggesting similar underlying biology and shared treatment strategies.

Pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) have gained substantial attention because they represent one of the only radiographically identifiable precursors of invasive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Although most of these neoplasms have low-grade dysplasia and will remain indolent, a subset of IPMNs will progress to invasive cancer. The role of the immune system in the progression of IPMNs is unclear, but understanding its role could reveal the mechanism of neoplastic progression and targets for immunotherapy to inhibit progression or treat invasive disease. The available evidence supports a shift in the immune composition of IPMNs during neoplastic progression. Although low-grade lesions contain a high proportion of effector T cells, high-grade IPMNs, and IPMNs with an associated invasive carcinoma lose the T-cell infiltrate and are characterised by a predominance of immunosuppressive elements. Several possible therapeutic strategies emerge from this analysis that are unique to IPMNs and its microbiome.

An 18-y-old female tufted deer (Elaphodus cephalophus) had a short history of chronic diarrhea, progressive weight loss, and hindlimb instability. Given the poor prognosis, the deer was euthanized and submitted for postmortem examination. The most significant gross finding was segmental and multinodular mural thickening of the proximal colon. On cut surface of the affected colonic segments, 0.5-2-cm diameter, intramural, multiloculated, cystic structures containing gray, translucent, gelatinous material elevated the edematous mucosa. Microscopically, the intramural cystic structures were filled with mucinous matrix admixed with foamy macrophages, and lined by discontinuous segments of well-differentiated columnar, pancytokeratin-positive epithelium with basilar nuclei. Multifocally, transition was observed from hyperplastic mucosal crypt epithelium to dysplastic or neoplastic columnar and flattened epithelium lining submucosal and serosal cysts. Cyst lumina were irregularly disrupted by polypoid ingrowths of collagenous tissue covered by attenuated epithelium. Based on these findings, we diagnosed a well-differentiated mucinous adenocarcinoma. Although intestinal adenocarcinomas have been described in humans and animals, they are considered uncommon in most domestic species, except for sheep, for which genetic and environmental factors appear to influence occurrence. Our report addresses the knowledge gap regarding intestinal adenocarcinomas affecting cervids and specifically the tufted deer, a less-studied, near-threatened Asian cervid.

Introduction: Mucocoele of the appendix occurs in 0.2-0.7% of people in the world without any well-defined clinical symptoms. It occurs when there is an accumulation of mucous in the lumen of the appendix. Case Presentation: We present three cases: a 48-year-old male admitted to the emergency room with a one-day history of right iliac fossa pain. Abdominal examination was suggestive of acute appendicitis. The initial abdominal computerised tomography scan was reported as being unremarkable. At surgery, a firm tumour of the appendix was found, and a limited right hemicolectomy was done. Histopathology confirmed a mucocoele of the appendix with borderline mucinous histology. The second case is a 63-year-old man who presented with a one-year history of abdominal distension and weight loss. Previous abdominal ultrasound was suggestive of liver cirrhosis with significant ascitic fluid. Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging found an appendix mucocoele with infiltration of the omentum and scalloping of the liver surface suggestive of pseudomyxoma peritonei. A percutaneous biopsy of the omental mass confirmed metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix. The third case is a 68-year-old man who, during an annual medical check-up, had an incidental finding of a cystic right iliac fossa mass on ultrasound, confirmed on abdominopelvic computerised tomography scan to be an appendix mucocele. He had laparoscopic appendicectomy. The histopathological diagnosis confirmed a mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix. Conclusion: Preoperative diagnosis of appendiceal mucocoele is difficult and commonly discovered intraoperatively. This case report presents a unique and unprecedented occurrence of mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary accompanied by xanthogranulomatous oophoritis, a rare inflammatory condition. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documented case of its kind in the medical literature. The patient, a 25-year-old woman, presented with abdominal pain, fever, and discomfort, prompting further investigation that led to the unexpected discovery of these coexisting pathologies. Background: Mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma is a rare renal tumor. It has been recognized as a distinct entity in the 2004 World Health Organization tumor classification. Since then, several dozen of these tumor have been reported with additional complementary morphologic characteristics, immunohistochemical profile, and molecular genetic features that have further clarified its clinicopathologic aspects. Case presentation: We report the case of a 52-year-old male African patient who was found to have a mucinous tubular and spindle renal cell carcinoma on a nephrectomy specimen for a severe kidney trauma. Conclusions: This tumor has a histological spectrum ranging from low to high grade, which includes sarcomatoid differentiation that can confer the tumor an aggressive clinical course. Background: Ovarian tumors are a common form of neoplasm in women. Early diagnosis and management of ovarian tumors is a major problem in a developing country like Nepal, due to lack of awareness and limited facility for investigations in all parts of Nepal. Usually, the malignant ovarian neoplasms will have already advanced too far by the time they are detected. This study was proposed to identify the spectrum of ovarian tumors and their clinicopathological features. Materials and methods: This was a hospital-based cross-sectional descriptive study over a period of two years. Ovarian tissue with clinical notes sent to the histopathology department in 10% formalin was received. The specimens were subjected to critical gross as well as histopathological study. Routine paraffin sections with Hematoxylin & Eosin staining were used. The clinical as well as histological findings were compiled on proforma and then subjected to analysis. This was a descriptive study and data were tabulated and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0 Results: A total of 50 patients were included in the study with the age range from 15 years to 63 years. Maximum patients were from age group 41-50 years (36%). In the present study, abdominal pain (62%) was the most common presenting complaint followed by mass per abdomen (20%) and irregular periods (10%). The majority of the ovarian tumors belonged to benign tumors (82%) followed by malignant tumors (12%). As per WHO classification, surface epithelium tumors were found to be the most common variety (84%), followed by germ cell tumors (10%). Among the various known subtypes of ovarian tumors, serous cystadenoma (48%) was found to be the most common subtype followed by mucinous cystadenoma (20%). Conclusions: Benign ovarian tumors are more common than malignant or borderline tumors. Among the histopathological subtypes of ovarian tumors, surface epithelial tumors are the most common type. Differentiation between benign and malignant tumors is important to assure proper management and recovery. Similar studies with greater sample size are advisable in the future.

Mucin-producing adenocarcinomas (MAC) are an extremely rare, indistinct group of neoplasm having either a salivary gland origin or with prominent glandular component. The diagnosis is chiefly based on the histological aspect conjoined with immunohistochemical evaluation as clinicoradiographical features are non-specific. It can arise as a primary metastasis to soft tissues, most commonly from either lung, breast, kidney, or colon. This paper reports a 51-year-old woman with buccolingual gingival swelling having a final diagnosis of metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma from the breast. A tissue biopsy was performed followed by immunohistochemistry that confirmed the diagnosis. They are extremely rare, making the diagnosis challenging as it may mimic a benign neoplasm. It accounts for approximately 1% of all oral malignant neoplasms having gingival propensity. The clinician should therefore take into account every diagnostic aspect while encountering such oral lesions to achieve proper patient welfare. variant of salivary duct carcinoma making them exclusive and incoherent [3]. Simple Summary: Adenomas may be mistaken for a malignant tumor during colonoscopy. Patients with confirmed colon tumors during colonoscopy underwent a Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI) investigation using a 3.0 Tesla unit. We aimed to assess the usefulness of quantitative, diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) in colon tumors, in which accurate staging is becoming increasingly important, with new and more personalized treatment options. The endpoint was the surgically resected tumor specimens the mucinous colon tumors was classified based on T2 weighted images. We observed a significantly higher degree of restricted diffusion in colon carcinomas compared to adenomas. However, this difference was less pronounced in cases of mucinous-producing tumors. Purpose: To assess the use of quantitative diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) as a diagnostic imaging biomarker in differentiating between benign colon adenoma, early, and advanced cancer of the colon, as well as predicting lymph node involvement, and finally comparing mucinous-producing colon cancer with adenomas and non-mucinous colon cancer. Method: Patients with a confirmed tumor on colonoscopy were eligible for inclusion in this study. Using a 3.0 Tesla MRI machine, the main tumor mean apparent diffusion coefficient (mADC) was obtained. Surgically resected tumor specimens served as an endpoint, except in mucinous colon cancers, which were classified based on T2 images. Results: A total of 152 patients were included in the study population. The mean age was 71 years. A statistically significant mADC mean difference of −282 × 10−6 mm2/s [−419–−144 95% CI, p < 0.001] was found between colon adenomas and early colon cancer, with an AUC of 0.80 [0.68–0.93 95% CI] and an optimal cut off value of 1018 × 10−6 mm2/s. Only a small statistically significant difference (p = 0.039) in mADC was found between benign tumors and mucinous colon cancer. We found no statistical difference in mADC mean values between early and advanced colon cancer, and between colon cancer with and without lymph node involvement. Conclusion: Quantitative DW-MRI is potentially useful for determining whether a colonic tumor is benign or malignant. Mucinous adenocarcinoma of jejunum is a rare tumor of the gastrointestinal tract. Patients usually present after fifth decade of their life with non-specific symptoms. Delayed diagnosis is commonplace and often the reason for advanced disease and poor prognosis. These tumors may masquerade as other common malignancies, with a conclusive diagnosis only after the final histopathological examination. We present a case of jejunal mucinous adenocarcinoma, disguised as cecal malignancy, in an old female patient, managed with radical resection and adjuvant chemotherapy. Introduction: Mutations of the p53 gene as determined by mutation analysis and/or positive immunohistochemical (IHC) staining for p53 are common in ovarian cancer and have been associated with poor clinical outcome. However, results of the many studies on the prognostic value of p53 expression are inconclusive. Hence the present study was conducted to study immunohistochemical expression of p53 gene in various ovarian lesions. Material and Methods: The present study was conducted to study p53 expression in ovarian lesions of different histogenesis. Paraffin embedded hematoxylin & eosin stained tissue sections were diagnosed histologically and subsequently stained immunohistochemically with p53 antibody. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16.0. Results: Of 30 malignant cases, serous carcinomas were the largest group with 16 cases (53.33%) followed by mucinous with 4 cases (17%). All benign and borderline tumors were p53 negative. 86.6% of the malignancies were p53 positive and amongst which maximum number was that of serous carcinomas (50%), followed by mucinous carcinomas (10%), two cases (6.6%) each of dysgernminomas and adult granulosa cell tumor followed by one case each (3.3%) of malignant Brenner tumor, malignant mixed germ cell tumor, immature teratoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the ovary. p53 expression was high in malignant serous carcinomas cases as compared to borderline and benign (p value < 0.001) with high apoptotic and mitotic indices. Conclusion: It is concluded that strong and diffuse nuclear expression of Tp53 can be used as robust method for inferring the presence of Tp53 gene mutation in high grade serous carcinomas and can be used as surrogate marker for diagnostic workup of carcinoma ovary. BackgroundAge and ethnicity are among several factors that influence overall survival (OS) in ovarian cancer. The study objective was to determine whether ethnicity and age were of prognostic significance in women enrolled in a clinical trial evaluating the addition of bevacizumab to front-line therapy.MethodsWomen with advanced stage ovarian, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer were enrolled in a phase III clinical trial. All women had surgical staging and received adjuvant chemotherapy with one of three regimens. Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate the relationship between OS with age and race/ethnicity among the study participants.ResultsOne-thousand-eight-hundred-seventy-three women were enrolled in the study. There were 280 minority women and 328 women over the age of 70. Women age 70 and older had a 34% increase risk for death when compared to women under 60 (HR = 1.34; 95% CI 1.16-1.54). Non-Hispanic Black women had a 54% decreased risk of death with the addition of maintenance bevacizumab (HR = 0.46, 95% CI:0.26-0.83). Women of Asian descent had more hematologic grade 3 or greater adverse events and a 27% decrease risk of death when compared to non-Hispanic Whites (HR = 0.73; 95% CI: 0.59-0.90).ConclusionsNon-Hispanic Black women showed a decreased risk of death with the addition of bevacizumab and patients of Asian ancestry had a lower death rate than all other minority groups, but despite these clinically meaningful improvements there was no statistically significant difference in OS among the groups.

BackgroundFemale patients with pelvic/adnexal masses often undergo gynecologic operations due to presumed ovarian origin. The diagnosis of an appendiceal tumor is often only made postoperatively after suboptimal cytoreduction has been performed. We hypothesized that an index gynecological procedure increases the morbidity of definitive cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC) in patients with appendiceal mucinous tumors.MethodsA single-center retrospective review was performed to identify female patients undergoing CRS/HIPEC for appendiceal tumors from 2012 to 2020.ResultsDuring the 8-year period, CRS/HIPEC was performed in 36 female patients with appendiceal mucinous tumors. Eighteen patients (50.0%) had received a prior pelvic operation by gynecologists (PPO Group) for presumed ovarian origin before referral for definitive CRS/HIPEC. The median peritoneal cancer index (PCI) was higher in the PPO group (21 vs. 9, p = 0.04). The median number of days from gynecologic procedure to definitive CRS/HIPEC was 169 days. ObjectiveIn the Phase 3 VELIA trial (NCT02470585), veliparib added to carboplatin plus paclitaxel concomitantly and as maintenance for women with newly-diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer significantly improved progression-free survival (PFS) versus chemotherapy alone. Here we present exploratory analyses by paclitaxel dosing schedule and germline BRCA (gBRCA) status.MethodsWomen with untreated ovarian carcinoma were randomized (1:1:1) to: veliparib during chemotherapy and maintenance (veliparib-throughout), veliparib during chemotherapy followed by placebo maintenance (veliparib-combination only), or placebo during chemotherapy and maintenance (control). Chemotherapy included carboplatin plus dose-dense (DD; weekly) or every-3-week (Q3W) paclitaxel (a stratification factor at randomization), selected at the investigator's discretion pre-randomization. PFS was assessed by paclitaxel dosing schedule using a Cox proportional hazard model adjusted by treatment arm and stratification factors; safety was analyzed based on paclitaxel dosing schedule and gBRCA status.Results1132 patients were analyzed by paclitaxel schedule. Pooled treatment arms demonstrated longer median PFS with DD (n = 586) versus Q3W (n = 546) paclitaxel (ITT: 20.5 vs 15.7 months, hazard ratio [HR] 0.77; homologous recombination proficient cancer: 15.1 vs 11.8 months, HR 0.64; BRCAwt: 18.0 vs 12.9 months, HR 0.70). Comparison between arms favored veliparib-throughout versus control in both DD (PFS, 24.2 vs 18.3 months, hazard ratio 0.67) and Q3W (19.3 vs 14.6, hazard ratio 0.69) subgroups. DD paclitaxel was associated with higher incidence of Grade 3/4 neutropenia, fatigue, and anemia versus Q3W. There were no differences in toxicity between gBRCAm (n = 211) and gBRCAwt (n = 902) subgroups.ConclusionsDD paclitaxel was tolerable and associated with longer PFS in the HR proficient and gBRCAwt groups, versus Q3W. gBRCA status did not impact safety.

Mature teratoma is a common tumor that can undergo malignant transformation, either in ovarian or extragonadal sites. While adenocarcinoma superimposed on sacrococcygeal teratoma is rare, mucinous variants have been reported in only five cases. Here, we present a case of a young girl with disseminated metastasis of mucinous carcinoma, initially of unknown primary origin. Further investigation by a dedicated multidisciplinary team (MDT) revealed a focus of mucinous carcinoma (intestinal type) in a sacrococcygeal teratoma incompletely resected five years earlier. The patient is currently undergoing second-line chemotherapy after experiencing side-effects on the first-line regimen. Pathologists, gynecologic oncologists, and surgical oncologists should exercise caution when dealing with locally aggressive teratomas, thoroughly searching for malignant components and conducting short-term follow-up.

Ciliated cell markers expressed in epithelial ovarian cancers (EOC) are associated with improved survival. We examined the distribution of cells expressing ciliated cell markers in various EOC histologies and stages. Immunohistochemistry and/or multiplex immunofluorescence were used to determine the expression of FOXJ1 and/or CAPS (ciliated cell markers) in tissue microarrays including 4 normal fallopian tubes, 6 normal endometria, 16 cystadenomas, 25 borderline tumors, 21 low-grade carcinomas, and 118 high-grade carcinomas (HGSOC) (46 serous, 29 endometrioid, 30 clear cell, 13 mucinous). The classification of pancreatic cyst fluids can provide a basis for the early detection of pancreatic cancer while eliminating unnecessary procedures. A candidate biomarker, gastricsin (pepsin C), was found to be present in potentially malignant mucinous pancreatic cyst fluids. A gastricsin activity assay using a magnetic bead-based platform has been developed using immobilized peptide substrates selective for gastricsin bearing a dimeric rhodamine dye. The unique dye structure allows quantitation of enzyme-cleaved product by both fluorescence and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The performance of this assay was compared with ELISA assays of pepsinogen C and the standard of care, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), in the same clinical sample cohort. A retrospective cohort of mucinous (n = 40) and non-mucinous (n = 29) classes of pancreatic cyst fluid samples were analyzed using the new protease activity assay. For both assay detection modes, successful differentiation of mucinous and non-mucinous cyst fluid was achieved using 1 µL clinical samples. The activity-based assays in combination with CEA exhibit optimal sensitivity and specificity of 87% and 93%, respectively. The use of this gastricsin activity assay requires a minimal volume of clinical specimen, offers a rapid assay time, and shows improvements in the differentiation of mucinous and non-mucinous cysts using an accurate standardized readout of product formation, all without interfering with the clinical standard of care.

Ovarian carcinoma histotypes are distinct diseases with variable clinical outcomes and response to treatment. There is a need for new subtype-specific treatment modalities, especially for women with widespread and chemo-resistant disease. Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) is a part of the cGAS-STING pathway that mediates innate immune defence against infectious DNA-containing pathogens and also detects tumour-derived DNA and generates intrinsic antitumour immunity. The STING signalling pathway is suppressed by several mechanisms in a variety of malignant diseases and, in some cancers that may be a requirement for cellular transformation. The aim of this study was to use immunohistochemistry to evaluate STING protein expression across normal tissue, paratubal and ovarian cysts, and ovarian tumour histotypes including ovarian carcinomas. Herein, we show that the fallopian tube ciliated cells express STING protein, whereas the secretory cells are negative. STING expression differs among ovarian cancer histotypes; low-grade serous ovarian carcinomas and serous borderline tumours have uniform high STING expression, while high-grade serous and endometrioid carcinomas have heterogeneous expression, and clear cell and mucinous carcinomas show low expression. As low-grade serous carcinomas are known to be genomically stable and typically lack a prominent host immune response, the consistently high STING expression is unexpected. High STING expression may reflect pathway activation or histogenesis and the mechanisms may be different in different ovarian carcinoma histotypes. Further studies are needed to determine whether the STING signalling pathway is active and whether these tumours would be candidates for therapeutic interventions that trigger innate immunity activation.

Synchronous bilateral breast cancer is a rare clinical entity. And due to both an improved prognosis and growing life expectancy on early detection, we have brought interest in case of patient with synchronous breast cancer. This study reports a case of synchronous bilateral breast cancer in an asymptomatic 70-year-old woman with a positive family history of breast cancer. This woman was diagnosed through radiological screenings, including mammograms, ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). On histopathologic examination of the core biopsy, the left breast mass was a Nottingham grade I invasive carcinoma of no particular type. The right breast mass was a Nottingham grade I invasive carcinoma with a mucinous component. After lumpectomies ultrasonography of the surgical specimens confirmed a small biopsy-proven invasive ductal cancer hypoechoic mass in the left breast, with an irregular margins and proven mucinous cancer mass in the right breast. The case was finally diagnosed as synchronous bilateral breast cancer of different pathologic types (ductal and mucinous).

Although imaging studies are not typically performed for clinical diagnosis of cervicitis, in this case magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed because a lesion with a tumor-like gross appearance was found in the uterine cervix. We present a case of cervicitis in which clinical, imaging and pathological features overlapped with those of gastric-type mucinous adenocarcinoma (GAS). The patient, a 30-year-old woman, was referred to a gynecologist with a complaint of watery vaginal discharge. On visual examination, the uterine cervix was irregularly enlarged and bled easily, suggesting cervical cancer. The next day, the patient had a fever of 39°C and blisters appeared on her vulva due to herpes simplex virus type II infection. MRI showed a diffusely enlarged cervix with poorly marginated high signal intensity on T2-weighted imaging (WI) and apparent diffusion coefficient map as well as strong enhancement on contrast-enhanced T1WI, which are findings consistent with GAS. Although a punch biopsy showed only mild atypia of the cervical glands, this was not enough to completely rule out GAS. Consequently, laser conization of the lesion was performed for definitive diagnosis, and the diagnosis of cervicitis was made. Acute cervicitis can be difficult to differentiate from GAS based on symptoms, results of cervical biopsy and MR imaging because of their overlapping features. Even when a patient presents with a lesion with tumor-like gross appearance, acute cervicitis should be included in the differential diagnosis if the result of cervical biopsy is negative, especially when accompanied by infection-like fever.

Mature teratoma is a common tumor that can undergo malignant transformation, either in ovarian or extragonadal sites. While adenocarcinoma superimposed on sacrococcygeal teratoma is rare, mucinous variants have been reported in only five cases. Here, we present a case of a young girl with disseminated metastasis of mucinous carcinoma, initially of unknown primary origin. Further investigation by a dedicated multidisciplinary team (MDT) revealed a focus of mucinous carcinoma (intestinal type) in a sacrococcygeal teratoma incompletely resected five years earlier. The patient is currently undergoing second-line chemotherapy after experiencing side-effects on the first-line regimen. Pathologists, gynecologic oncologists, and surgical oncologists should exercise caution when dealing with locally aggressive teratomas, thoroughly searching for malignant components and conducting short-term follow-up. Mucinous ovarian tumors are typically large masses that cause preoperative and intraoperative evaluation challenges due to their size. Our study aims to assess the effectiveness of routinely studied preoperative complete blood count parameters and tumor markers in differentiating between benign, borderline, and malignant mucinous ovarian tumors. Patients who had surgery for a suspected adnexal mass and were diagnosed with a mucinous ovarian tumor between January 2019 and June 2023 were included in this study. The surgeries were performed at a gynecological oncology unit in a tertiary referral center. Cases that met the study criteria were categorized into three groups: benign, borderline, and malignant, based on their pathology results. We evaluated various parameters from the complete blood count (hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets, mean platelet volume), ratios of these parameters to each other (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio), tumor markers (Ca 125, Ca 19.9, CEA), and proportions of tumor markers to each other (Ca125/Ca19.9, Ca19.9/CEA). The serum levels of Ca125, Ca19.9, CEA, and the Ca125/Ca19.9 ratio were significantly different between the groups (p<0.05). When using the cut-off values of Ca125>39 U/ml, Ca19.9>24.5 U/ml, CEA>4.9 ng/dl, and Ca125/Ca19.9 ratio ≤0.97, these markers showed sensitivities of 64.7%, 82.4%, 52.9%, and 64.7% respectively in distinguishing between benign and malignant mucinous ovarian tumors. Testicular mucinous cystadenoma is a rare benign testicular tumor with the characteristics of being potentially malignant and showing atypical clinical symptoms; this article reports a case of a primary testicular mucinous cystadenoma misdiagnosed as testicular teratoma by ultrasound. A 69-yearold man was admitted to the hospital because of a 1-year history of left-sided testicular enlargement with scrotal swelling and no obvious abnormalities on laboratory tests. Ultrasound examination revealed solid-mass lesions in the left testicle, suggesting a high probability of teratoma, and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination suggested an increased possibility of epidermoid cysts. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and contrast-enhanced MRI of the preoperative abdomen and pelvis showed no other primary adenocarcinoma. Doctors performed radical resection of the left testicle. The postoperative pathological diagnosis was mucinous cystadenoma, and calcification as well as partially mildly atypical epithelial cells were discovered. Furthermore, there were no neoplastic lesions in the epididymis or spermatic cord. No metastatic lesions were found after 6 months postoperative follow-up, and the patient's prognosis remains good. Objective: To assess the molecular profile of borderline ovarian tumors (BOT) in the Lebanese population by whole‐exome sequencing and to correlate the results with the patients' clinical profiles. Methods: We included in this retrospective study 33 tumors belonging to 32 Lebanese women presenting with BOT, diagnosed at Hôtel Dieu de France. A total of 234 genes involved in different germinal and somatic types of cancer were analyzed using next‐generation sequencing. Results: Molecular analysis of these tumors allowed us to detect mutations in genes involved in the mitogen‐activated protein kinase cascade in 57.58% of BOT and to identify variants affecting the DNA repair mechanism in 63.89% of samples. Furthermore, our initial analysis revealed an association between defects in DNA double‐strand break repair and the occurrence of mucinous BOT, in 75% of the cases. Conclusion: This study reports the molecular profiles of BOT in the Lebanese population and compares them to the literature. This is the first study associating the DNA repair pathway to BOT. Primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma of the skin is an adenocarcinoma of eccrine glands. However, it may be locally aggressive and can metastasize to lymph nodes. Differential diagnosis especially from metastatic mucinous carcinomas of other organs such as breast, gastrointestinal tract, lung, prostate, and ovary may be difficult. Here we report a case of mucinous eccrine carcinoma with multiple recurrences even after surgical excision and radiotherapy. Cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma is a rare and special histological type of cervical malignant tumor, which mainly includes adenocarcinoma of the cervix gastric type, adenocarcinoma of the cervix and intestines, and primary cervical signet-ring cell carcinoma. Due to the uncertainty between the pathogenesis of cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection makes it difficult to be suggested by routine cervical cancer screening. Meanwhile, the etiology and pathogenesis of cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma are not clear, and there is a lack of typical clinical manifestations and early diagnosis methods, and the clinicopathological features and treatment are different from those of cervical common adenocarcinoma, resulting in patients being prone to miss the best treatment time, so the prognosis of cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma is worse than that of cervical common adenocarcinoma. In recent years, due to the popularization of HPV vaccine, the relative incidence of cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma has slightly increased compared with before, and the research on cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma has received more and more attention. The relevant research on cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma at home and abroad is reviewed, and the relevant pathogenesis, clinical features and treatment of cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma are discussed, in order to provide a reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of cervical mucinous adenocarcinoma. Colorectal cancer (CRC) comprises several histological subtypes, but the influences of the histological subtypes on prognosis remains unclear. We sought to evaluate the prognosis of mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC), compared to that of traditional adenocarcinoma (TAC). This study used the data of patients diagnosed with CRC between 2004 and 2016, as obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. We established a predictive model for disease-specific survival using conditional survival forest, model, non-linear Cox proportional hazards, and neural multi-task logistic regression model and identified the gene signatures for predicting poor prognosis based on the arrayexpress datasets. In total, 9096 (42.1%) patients with MAC and 12,490 (58.9%) patients with TAC were included. Those with the MAC subtype were more likely to have a poorer overall survival rate compared to those with the TAC subtype in stage II CRC (p = 0.002). The eight major genes including RPS18, RPL30, NME2, USP33, GAB2, RPS3A, RPS25, and CEP57 were found in the interacting network pathway. MAC was found to have a poorer prognosis compared to TAC, especially in Stage II CRC. In addition, our findings suggest that identifying potential biomarkers and biological pathways can be useful in CRC prognosis.

BackgroundJejunal lymphatic malformations are congenital lesions that are seldom diagnosed in adults and rarely seen on imaging.Case presentationA 61-year-old Caucasian woman was initially diagnosed and treated for mucinous ovarian carcinoma. After an exploratory laparotomy with left salpingo-oophorectomy, a computed tomography scan of the abdomen and pelvis demonstrated suspicious fluid-containing lesions involving a segment of jejunum and adjacent mesentery. Resection of the lesion during subsequent debulking surgery revealed that the lesion seen on imaging was a jejunal lymphatic malformation and not a cancerous implant.ConclusionsAbdominal lymphatic malformations are difficult to diagnose solely on imaging but should remain on the differential in adult cancer patients with persistent cystic abdominal lesions despite chemotherapy and must be differentiated from metastatic implants.
