Abstract Green finance (GF) is recognized as a key driver of sustainable development. While existing studies have extensively discussed the relationship between GF and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), few have explored the coupling coordination relationship between GF and SDGs. In this paper, we use data from thirty Chinese provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) from 2008–2021 to examine the degree of coupling coordination development (CCD) between GF and the SDGs systems using the CCD model. We find that most SDGs and their sub-goals exhibit a significant upward trend, except for SDG8, 14–16. GF presents a fluctuating upward trend, with a significant decline in 2010 and 2019. The CCDs between GF and SDGs and their sub-goals generally show an M-shaped upward trend in most regions, with most of them experiencing a synchronous decline in 2011–2012 and 2019. In the analysis of regional heterogeneity, the eastern region performs better in SDG8–9, the central region performs better in SDG3, 14–15, while the western region performs better in SDG7. This paper provides empirical evidence for a further in-depth understanding of the relationship between GF and SDGs, which can contribute to advancing GF development and the SDG process.

Abstract China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) aims to strengthen regional economic and policy cooperation and achieve the rapid development among the participating countries. While the impact on the financial development of the economic growth and energy environment of BRI participating countries has garnered close attention among scholars, few studies focus on the impact of financial development on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the BRI participating countries. To address this gap, we utilized panel regression models to quantitatively assess the impact of China’s financial development scale, structure, and efficiency on the SDGs of the BRI participating countries, and adopted Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR) model to explore the spatial-temporal effects of China’s financial development scale, structure, and efficiency on the SDGs of the BRI participating countries. Our findings indicate that China’s financial development has significantly promoted the SDGs of the BRI participating countries. This study further reveals that the scale and efficiency of China’s financial development have had a more pronounced impact on the SDGs of Asian countries, low- and middle-income countries, and the Land Silk Road participating countries, compared to those of European countries, high-income countries, and the Maritime Silk Road participating countries, respectively. In contrast, the structure of financial development primarily promotes the SDGs of European and high-income BRI participating countries in the land silk belt. The role of China’s financial development in promoting the SDGs of most BRI participating countries has gradually increased over time. This study provides valuable insights for decision-makers in China to facilitate the sustainable development of BRI participating countries and foster a shared community within the BRI framework.

Using the experimentally known aromatic icosahedral superatoms Ih B12H122− and D5d 1,12-C2B10H12 as building blocks and based on extensive density functional theory calculations, we predict herein a series of core–shell superpolyhedral boranes and carboranes in a bottom-up approach, including the high-symmetry Th B12@B152H722− (2), C2h C2B10@B152H72 (3), D3d B12@B144H66 (4), Ih B12@C24B120H722− (6), and D5d C2B10@C24B120H72 (7). More interestingly, the superatom-assembled linear D2h B36H322− (8), close-packed planar D3dB84H602− (10), and nearly close-packed core–shell D3d B12@B144H66 (4) can be extended periodically to form the one-dimensional (1D) α-rhombohedral borane nanowire B12H10 (Pmmm) (9), two-dimensional (2D) α-rhombohedral monolayer borophane B12H6 (P 3 ¯ m 1 ) (11), and the experimentally known three-dimensional (3D) α-rhombohedral boron (R 3 ¯ m ) (12) which can be viewed as an assembly of the monolayer B12H6 (11) staggered in vertical direction, setting up a bottom-up strategy to form low-dimensional boron-based nanomaterials from their borane "seeds" via partial or complete dehydrogenations. Detailed bonding analyses indicate that the high stability of these nanostructures originates from the spherical aromaticity of their icosahedral B12 or C2B10 structural units which possess the universal skeleton electronic configuration of 1S21P61D101F8 following the Wade's n+1 rule. The infrared (IR) and Raman spectra of the most-concerned neutral B12@B144H66 (4) and C2B10@C24B120H72 (7) are computationally simulated to facilitate their experimental characterizations. Statistical depth, a commonly used analytic tool in nonparametric statistics, has been extensively studied for multivariate and functional observations over the past few decades. Although various forms of depth were introduced, they are mainly procedure based whose definitions are independent of the generative model for observations. To address this problem, we introduce a generative model-based approach to define statistical depth for both multivariate and functional data. The proposed model-based depth framework permits simple computation via a bootstrap sampling and improves the depth estimation accuracy. When applied to functional data, the proposed depth can capture important features such as continuity, smoothness or phase variability, depending on the defining criteria. We propose efficient algorithms to compute the proposed depths and establish estimation consistency. Through simulations and real data, we demonstrate that the proposed functional depths reveal important statistical information such as those captured by the median and quantiles, and detect outliers. Based on extensive global minimum searches augmented with first-principles theory calculations, we predict herein the first boron-based perfect tetrahedral clusters Td B16P4 (2) and Td B16As4 (3) which, as aromatic non-metal analogs of the experimentally observed Td Au20 (2003, Science299, 864), all contain a truncated Td B16 (1) cage at the center effectively stabilized by four trivalent non-metal atoms (P, As) at the corners. Detailed natural bonding orbital (NBO) and adaptive natural density partitioning (AdNDP) bonding analyses indicate that the valences of all the trivalent component atoms in these tetrahedral clusters are fully satisfied, rendering spherical aromaticity and extra stability to the systems. The IR, Raman, and photoelectron spectra (PES) of the concerned species are theoretically simulated to facilitate their characterizations in future experiments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
