This is the sixth chapter of the guideline “Calculated initial parenteral treatment of bacterial infections in adults – update 2018” in the 2 updated version. The German guideline by the Paul-Ehrlich-Gesellschaft für Chemotherapie e.V. (PEG) has been translated to address an international audience.The chapter deals with the antibacterial treatment of more severe infections of the ear, the nose, the throat and the maxillofacial region, including odontogenic and salivary gland infections.

This guideline is aimed at registrars and consultants in dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT, pediatrics, neurology, virology as well as infectiology, anaesthesia and generell medicine as well as policymakers and payers and purchasers of care. It was developed by dermatologists, virologists, ophthalmologists, ENT physicians, neurologists, pediatrician and anesthetists using a formal consensus process (S2k).The guideline provides an overview of clinical and molecular diagnostics as well as antigen detection, antibody culture and viral culture. Diagnostic special situations and complicated courses of the disease are also considered. The antiviral therapy of zoster and postzoster neuralgia is presented in general and for special situations. Detailed information on the treatment of pain is mentioned and presented in an overview. Likewise, the local therapeutic measures are discussed.

With the increasing industrial relevance of new quantum technologies, a well-educated quantum workforce becomes increasingly crucial. The foreseeable lack of workforce raises important questions. What are the expectations regarding the future relevance of second-generation quantum technologies? What are the requirements for the workforce in the coming quantum industry? Which competences, knowledge, and skills should future employees have? In this paper, we report the results of our study that were aimed at mapping requirements and forecasts for the future quantum workforce. Our study consisted of three consecutive survey rounds. In total, we gathered 188 responses from industry and academic experts across Europe. Our study results served as an input for the development of the European Competence Framework for Quantum Technologies, delivered by the project QTEdu CSA for the European Quantum Flagship. In addition, we will discuss predictions from experts related to the future quantum workforce, including the expected industrial relevance of the main areas of quantum technologies, the need for educational efforts, and the expected influence of quantum technologies on everyday life.

A bin picking task involves multiple steps, including object detection, 3D pose estimation, and path planning. Dealing with unstructured and cluttered bins presents challenges due to potential overlaps and misidentification of parts. We propose a purely mathematical approach for achieving highly precise 3D pose estimation at the millimeter level. Our method involves capturing a point-cloud image of the parts within the bin and applying a best fit algorithm to smooth the surface. Subsequently, we employ the Iterative Closest Point Method (ICP) to match a CAD model of the desired part with the smoothed surface point-cloud. Finally, we identify gripping points to enable the robot to pick up the part. The concept is validated in a use-case involving Lego sorting. Modern manufacturing methods demand highly flexible and reusable assembly systems. Such flexibility and reusability can be attained using systems that are modular. These modular systems have the ability to react faster to market forces and are adaptable beyond the limits of the so-called flexibility corridor. Also, placing the constraints of flexibility and reusability on software paves the way for design and usage of generic systems that have a relatively low initial cost. However, these advantages are often overshadowed by the complexity of these software systems. Especially, one faces many difficulties in software modularizing the assembly system so that each module can be integrated seamlessly into the entire system. Facing the challenges of modern production, such as increased product variability and individuality, assembly systems must strive for maximum flexibility. Consequently, despite the continuous advancements in automation, the human workforce retains its crucial role in industrial assembly due to its exceptional adaptability and learning capabilities. However, the industry is confronted with the additional challenge of addressing a shortage of skilled workers, managing ongoing demographic changes, and handling an increasingly heterogenous workforce in terms of age, skills, and experience. As a result, there is a growing emphasis on the efficient and ergonomic use of the human workforce. In this context, the concept of human-centered production systems has emerged as an important approach. The objective of this paper is to propose a general concept for the implementation of a human-centered assembly system that can adapt to different human characteristics in terms of anthropometry, functional capabilities, knowledge, and personal needs during the assembly process. This in-process adaptation is based on the tracking of human movements and actions during the assembly process using LiDAR and camera technology. The collected data is utilized to feed a recommender system that serves to suggest possible configuration optimizations in the assembly system dimensions of Working height, Range of vision, gripping area, and handedness, Lighting and Use of information and assistance systems, encompassing a laser projector, spatial augmented reality facilitated by a dynamic beamer, and intelligent tools. Featured Application: This paper is intended to provide future researchers and users with an overview of concepts and modeling approaches for process-oriented tolerance and variation management. This should facilitate the identification and development of appropriate concepts. In the context of tolerance management, the consideration of manufacturing and assembly processes is becoming increasingly important. The main drivers for this are, above all, short development times and high-quality requirements, leading to tight tolerances. To overcome the resulting challenges, many publications address the process-oriented tolerance management. However, since multiple terms and definitions for describing activities that link tolerance management with the production process exist, it is hard to obtain a comprehensive overview on the topic. Therefore, this paper presents a review of existing approaches. The aim is to identify similarities and differences of existing approaches and present them with the help of a classification. For this purpose, among others, work from the areas of process-oriented tolerance management, stream of variation, state space modeling, and variation propagation in multistation manufacturing and assembly systems is considered.
