Abstract

In this study, a numerical simulation of supercritical shallow water flows in an open channel contraction is carried out via the two-dimensional depth-averaged shallow water equations. The effect of the friction models (Manning, Chezy, Prandtl, Manning for vertical channel sidewalls) is analyzed on the numerical results. The simulated water depth and velocity obtained by different friction models are compared with experience results. The simulations show that the use of the non-slip boundary conditions and the consideration of the friction effect on the walls do not change the structure and the amplitude of waves but have an important impact on the numerical outcomes mainly on the mean depth flow downstream of the channel. For the Froude number F=3.88, the use of the non-slip boundary conditions and the consideration of friction do not reproduce the transition from flow to the subcritical regime. Abstract

In this study, the solubility of 145 solid solutes in supercritical CO2 (scCO2) was correlated using computational intelligence techniques based on Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship (QSPR) models. A database of 3637 solubility values has been collected from previously published papers. Dragon software was used to calculate molecular descriptors of 145 solid systems. The genetic algorithm (GA) was implemented to optimise the subset of the significantly contributed descriptors. The overall average absolute relative deviation MAARD of about 1.345 % between experimental and calculated values by support vector regress SVR-QSPR model was obtained to predict the solubility of 145 solid solutes in supercritical CO2, which is better than that obtained using ANN-QSPR model of 2.772 %. The results show that the developed SVR-QSPR model is more accurate and can be used as an alternative powerful modelling tool for QSAR studies of the solubility of solid solutes in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). The accuracy of the proposed model was evaluated using statistical analysis by comparing the results with other models reported in the literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The Stokes problem is fundamental in the study of fluid flows. In the case of smooth domains and data, this problem is extensively studied in the literature. But there are only a few results for non-smooth boundary data. In [13], there are some promising results in the 2 dimensional case. The aim of this work is to extend those results to a polyhedron domain with non-regular data.

43. The relationship between Intolerance of Uncertainty and State-Eating Pathology in Patients with Anorexia Nervosa

Abstract

There is a great amount of evidence from previous studies that found intolerance of uncertainty (IU) to be related to different psychological disorders. However, there is little known about the relationship between IU and the eating disorder: Anorexia nervosa (AN). The primary purpose of the study was to examine whether experimental induction of IU would have an effect on state-eating pathology in patients with AN versus those who did not undergo an experimental induction of IU. 29 Participants (M = 23.97, SD = 6.54) filled out a visual analogue scale about the experienced feeling of uncertainty, a questionnaire about state eating pathology and a questionnaire about intolerance of uncertainty before and after the experimental induction of IU. Results show that the manipulation did not show a difference between the group that underwent the experimental induction of IU versus the group that did not. Further research is needed to replicate this study and investigate the relationship IU has with AN.

Abstract

ZnS nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in an oxide glass have been achieved in the present work by melting process. The UV-visible absorption and fluorescence properties of these doped and undoped glasses have been evaluated and compared. Studies on absorption spectra showed that the size of the ZnS NPs was near to 2 nm. Doped glass fluorescence characterized by laser confocale microscopy is centered at about 620 nm. We measured also the refractive index of ZnS doped glasses. The maximum refractive index difference between the undoped and ZnS doped glasses was found about 0.1 (l = 0.6328 nm).
