Abstract

The prevalence of hate speech leads to an increase in hate crimes, online violence, and serious harm to social safety, physical security, and cyberspace. To address this issue, several studies have been conducted on hate speech detection in European languages, whereas little attention has been paid to low-resource South Asian languages, making social media vulnerable for millions of users. Due to the scarcity of the datasets and the samples available, there is a need to apply some strategies to increase the data samples. In this paper, we improved the performance of the already fine-tuned m-Bert model by applying data augmentation techniques to one of the datasets on hate speech on tweets in Roman Urdu language. F1-score and accuracy matrix have been used to compare the results. We also experiment to determine the optimal percentage of augmented data to be included and the percentage of words augmented in each instance of data. The new RUHSOLD++ Dataset containing the augmented data has also been published publicly. The improvement in hate speech detection of the model proved that the performance of the models can be improved by applying data augmentation techniques to the dataset with a limited number of instances.

24. Effects of rare earth ions on structural, morphological and photoluminescent properties of non-stoichiometric LiNbO3.

Abstract

The pseudo-ilmenite structure ABO3 have been increasingly highlighted in the optoelectronic area. Nanoparticles of undoped lithium niobates (LiNbO3) and codoped with rare earths (LiNbO3: Dy3+/Tb3+) were synthesized by the solid-state reaction method and calcined in a controlled way. The properties and structural changes of niobates were evaluated from data obtained in XRD and Rietveld refinement. The SEM-FEG micrographs showed different morphologies obtained (cubes, plates, tetrahedrons and polyhedra) according to the variation of the doping and co-doping process. Optical properties were measured and studied based on the results obtained from the UV-Vis spectrophotometer and photoluminescence assays. The photoluminescence presented by LiNbO3 was associated with the existence of superficial defects in the particles, i.e., centers of recombination of photogenerated charges favorable to the property. The effect of concentration of dopants was investigated in properties photoluminescence. Photometric measurements (CRI, purity, CCT, LER) were analyzed and a modulation of the emitted color as a function of the concentration of the dopants. According to the obtained results, LiNbO3: Dy3+/Tb3+ presents itself as a material with great potential in optical device applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The advent of intra-nasal esketamine (ESK), one of the first so called fast-acting antidepressant, promises to revolutionize the management of treatment resistant depression (TRD). This NMDA receptor antagonist has proven to be rapidly effective in the short- and medium-term course of the illness, revealing its potential in targeting response in TRD. Although many TRD ESK responders are able to achieve remission, a considerable portion of them undergo a metamorphosis of their depression into different clinical presentations, characterized by instable responses and high recurrence rates that can be considered closer to the concept of Difficult to Treat Depression (DTD) than to TRD. The management of these DTD patients usually requires a further complex multidisciplinary approach and can benefit from the valuable contribution of new personalized medicine tools such as therapeutic drug monitoring and pharmacogenetics. Despite this, these patients usually come with long and complex previous treatments history and, often, advanced and sophisticated ongoing pharmacological schemes that can make the finding of new alternative options to face the current recurrences extremely challenging. In this paper, we describe two DTD patients—already receiving intranasal ESK but showing an instable course—who were clinically stabilized by the association with minocycline, a semisynthetic second-generation tetracycline with known and promising antidepressant properties.

Abstract

Pure ZnO particles, doped and co‐doped with Cu2+ and Mg2+ ions, were obtained by the simple sonochemical method. The wurtzite hexagonal structure was confirmed by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. The images obtained by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM) showed irregular and more agglomerated particles with the increase of Cu2+ and Mg2+ ions concentration in the ZnO lattice, with the average diameter of particles in the range of 57.23–170.77 nm. The photocatalytic activity was investigated by decolorizing the methylene blue (MB) dye under ultraviolet C (UVC) light irradiation which indicates that 1% Mg‐doped ZnO particles have better the photocatalytic activity than the other samples, and presented the highest kinetic constant value. The co‐doped samples showed a reduced global surface area which did not favor the good photocatalytic performance. The sacrificial agents showed that OH• radicals are the main species involved in the photocatalytic activity of this system and defects generated in the ZnO lattice promoted photoluminescent emission in the red and green regions.
