INTRODUCTION: Menstrual problems affected by mothers or learned from mothers may continue for a lifetime. Understanding these factors may enable symptoms to be controlled. We aimed to compare premenstrual symptoms of daughters with their mothers' previous premenstrual and menopausal complaints and thought it might be a useful contribution for managing menstrual periods. METHODS: Postmenopausal women who applied to gynecology and obstetrics policlinic and their menstruating adult daughters were clinically evaluated with psychiatrist clinician interview. Menopause rating scale(MRS) and premenstrual syndrome scale(PMSS) for previous were applied to mothers, and PMSS to daughters. Sociodemographic characteristics were also evaluated. Results were compared in SPSS 26.0 program. RESULTS: There were 55 mother-daughter couples participated in the study. The mean age of daughters was 25.54 +- 6.4 years, of mothers was 55.23 +- 8.31 years. Anxiety, depressive thoughts, sleep, bloating symptoms of PMSS in both groups were similar (p=0.366, p=0.532, p=0.104, p=0.096 respectively), however depressive mood, fatigue, appetite, pain symptoms were different (p=0.003, p=0.031, p=0.010, p=0.001 respectively). Anxiety and fatigue symptoms of daughters were positively correlated with psychological menopausal symptoms of mothers (r=.334*, p=.013 and r=.302*, p=.025 respectively), however daughters' PMSS scores weren't correlated to mothers' somatic menopausal symptoms. Daughters' pain scores were correlated to mothers' urogenital menopausal symptoms o(r=.307*, p=.023). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Premenstrual symptoms of daughters were related to some of their mothers' previous premenstrual and current menopausal problems. The investigation of social relationship between PMS and menopause may play role in determining methods for managing menstruel periods. But long-term, large-populated prospective follow-up studies may provide more evidence.

This article explores the experience of 1.5 and second-generation Central American women growing up and living in Canada. Specifically, the study explores the gendered expectations of caring and the impact of culture and social context in shaping the roles of Central American daughters within their families and community. Based on twelve one-on-one interviews with female participants, the findings revealed that Central American women's upbringings emphasized the importance of family and that mothers played a significant role in their daughters' lives. Further, participants expressed that they were often confronted with complex family histories of intergenerational trauma and a disproportionate expectation for caregiving. Participants shared that they were often expected to take on a caregiver role to all family members with implications for their personal lives. While Canadian-raised daughters were aware of the gendered practice and emotional impact of caretaking, they remained committed to their familial obligation. Keywords: Central Americans, Latin Americans, Canada, 1.5 generation, second-generation, women, settlement. - Abstract
A pioneer woman educator in the male-dominated world of nineteenth-century academia, Mary Rippon was the first female professor at the University of Colorado and is believed to have been the first woman in the United States to teach at a state university. Mary received wide acclaim for her teaching, but Victorian society forced her to lead two very separate lives.'Miss Rippon,'as she was always known, was both a professional woman and a mother in an era when these two roles could not be combined. To keep her job and provide for her family, she hid her husband and child behind a Victorian veil of secrecy that spanned two continents. Separate Lives reveals the full story of the conflicts between this extraordinary woman's public and private lives. In January 1878, after several years of education in Germany, France, and Switzerland, the soft-spoken twenty-seven-year-old was welcomed at the newly opened University of Colorado in the then-small frontier town of Boulder. The growth of her lengthy career paralleled the early growth of the university, where she worked her way up from first female faculty member to the university's first female professor, eventually chairing the Department of German Language and Literature. The truth of Mary's separate lives was not disclosed until nearly a century later, in 1976, when her elderly grandson revealed to a university librarian that he was Mary's descendant. In 2006, Mary received a posthumous honorary degree from the University of Colorado, and in 2020 a scholarship was endowed in her name. Silvia Pettem's carefully researched biography weaves together the story of Mary's private life with her professional career—not to tarnish Mary's well-deserved reputation, but rather to uncover the human side of a woman whose circumstances clashed with the mores of her times.

INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLERThe masterful narration of a daughter's decades-long quest to understand her extraordinary mother, who was born in Lenin's Soviet Union, served as a combat soldier in the Red Army, and endured three years of Nazi captivity—but never revealed her darkest secrets. As a child, Roxana Spicer would sometimes wake to the sound of the Red Army choir. She would tip-toe downstairs to find her mother, cigarette in one hand and Black Russian in the other, singing along. Roxana would keep her company, and wonder....Everyone in their village knew Agnes Spicer was Russian, that she had been a captive of the Nazis. And that was all they knew, because Agnes kept her secrets close: how she managed to escape Germany, what the tattoo on her arm meant, even her real name. Discovering the truth about her beloved, charismatic, volatile mother became Roxana's obsession. Throughout her career as a journalist and documentarian, between investigations across Canada and around the world, she always went home to ask her mother more questions, often while filming. Roxana also took every chance to visit the few places that she did know played a role in her mother's story: Bad Salzuflen, Germany, home to POW slave labourers during the war; notorious concentration camps; and Russia. Under Gorbachev, Yeltsin, and the early years of Putin, she was able to find people, places, and documents that are now—perhaps forever—lost again. The Traitor's Daughter is intimate and exhaustively researched, vividly conversational, and shot through with Agnes Spicer's irrepressible, fiery personality. It is a true labour of love as well as a triumph of blending personal biography with sweeping history.

- Abstract
Family and Artistic Relations in Polish Women's Autobiographical Literature examines women's autobiographical works published in Poland after the year 2000 in a broader cultural context. This volume focuses on the writers'representation of their relationships with their mothers – many of them traumatized survivors of historical cataclysms, many of them professional artists, many of them struggling to reconcile their creative work with their role as wife and mother. Grzemska sheds light not only on the literary strategies used by the memoirists, but she also helps us understand women's struggles for an independent voice, for new models of commemoration, for healing. This book will interest readers in literary and cultural studies, as well as anyone who wishes to better understand Poland's cultural transformations in the post-Communist era.

- Abstract
A Library Journal best memoir of 2023 • Finalist, National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography Growing up with adoptive nisei parents, Susan Kiyo Ito knew only that her birth mother was Japanese American and her father white. But finding and meeting her birth mother in her early twenties was only the beginning of her search for answers, history, and identity. Though the two share a physical likeness, an affinity for ice cream, and a relationship that sometimes even feels familial, there is an ever-present tension between them, as a decades-long tug-of-war pits her birth mother's desire for anonymity against Ito's need to know her origins, to see and be seen. Along the way, Ito grapples with her own reproductive choices, the legacy of the Japanese American incarceration experience during World War II, and the true meaning of family. An account of love, what it's like to feel neither here nor there, and one writer's quest for the missing pieces that might make her feel whole, I Would Meet You Anywhere is the stirring culmination of Ito's decision to embrace her right to know and tell her own story.

- Abstract
In the spirit of The Glass Castle and The Burning Light of Two Stars, Antonia Deignan delivers what New York Times best-selling author Julie Cantrell calls a “a heart-shattering memoir of painful truth and soulful healing.”As a child, Antonia perceived her father's nighttime visits as special acts of love. On some deeper level, though, she knew what was happening wasn't right. To escape, she began creating imaginary worlds and used dreams to transport her away from her fears. As she got older, Antonia traded those fantasies for dance—but despite her outlets she remained trapped underwater, without a lifeline to make her feel fundamentally safe. For years, Antonia silently navigated the dark fathoms of her internalized pain, which manifested in myriad self-destructive habits: disordered eating, drug and alcohol abuse. Only decades later, while recovering from a serious bike accident, did she finally stop running and start reflecting—giving her the power to fully accept what had happened to her in her early life and ultimately forgive the unforgivable.Raw and visceral yet gorgeously lyrical, Underwater Daughter masterfully conveys not only the rippling effects of childhood trauma but also the hope that with honesty and work, healing is possible.

“Humorous, endearing, and intimate.” —TIME“Mother and daughter relationships are always tricky but this peripatetic pair has outdone all of us with this most excellent adventure written by my namesake, author Connie Wang.” —Connie ChungA dazzling mother-daughter adventure around the world in pursuit of self-discovery, a family reckoning, and Asian American defianceIn Chinese, the closest expression to oh my god is wo de ma ya. It's an interjection, a polite expletive, something to say when you're out of words. Translated literally, it means oh my mother—the instinctual first person you think of when you're on the cusp of losing it, or putting it all together. In each essay of this hilarious, heartfelt, and pitch-perfectly honest memoir, journalist Connie Wang explores her complicated relationship to her stubborn and charismatic mother, Qing Li, through the “oh my god” moments in their travels together. From attending a Magic Mike strip show in Vegas to experimenting with edibles in Amsterdam to flip-flopping through Versailles, this iconic mother-daughter duo venture into the world to find their place in it, and sometimes rail against it—as well as against each other. There are hijinks, capers, and adventures. There is also tenderness, growth, and discovery. In telling these stories about the places they've gone and the things they've done, Wang reveals another story: the true story of two women who finally learned that once we are comfortable with the feeling of not belonging—once we can reject the need to belong to any place, community, census, designation, or nation—we can experience something almost like freedom.

- Abstract
In Pursuit of Radio Mom brings the reader tight to Terry Crylen's side as it traces her path from frequent and debilitating anxiety, loneliness, and shame—and a dysfunctional marriage that mirrors the dynamics of her relationship with her mother—to the discovery of her authentic self and the happiness and fulfillment such a transformation brings. Radio Mom also illuminates the ways in which one generation impacts the next—both wittingly and unwittingly—when later, while pressing along the difficult route of raising her own daughter, the author is challenged to confront, yet again, the legacy of her past. A book that also makes transparent the process of psychotherapy, In Pursuit of Radio Mom's message is this: the excavation of pain clears space within the mind and heart—affording the growth of new insight, overturning fear, and making acceptance and forgiveness possible.

Perfect for fans of Taylor Jenkins Reid, Jodi Picoult, and Emma Cline, this vividly lyrical, evocative novel from the award-winning author transports readers to the gritty atmosphere of 1970s New York City as the precarious lines between girl and woman, art and obscenity, fetish and fame flicker and ignite for a young girl on the brink of stardom and a mother on the verge of collapse.“A gorgeously written, emotionally resonant novel about mothers and daughters.” —Jillian Cantor, USA Today bestselling author In 1970s New York, her innocence is seductive. Four decades later, it's a crime... Living peacefully in Vermont, Ryan Flannigan is shocked when a text from her oldest friend alerts her to a devastating news item. A controversial photo of her as a pre-teen has been found in the possession of a wealthy investor recently revealed as a pedophile and a sex trafficker—with an inscription to him from Ryan's mother on the back. Memories crowd in, providing their own distinctive pictures of her mother Fiona, an aspiring actress, and their move to the West Village in 1976. Amid the city's gritty kaleidoscope of wealth and poverty, high art, and sleazy strip clubs, Ryan is discovered and thrust into the spotlight as a promising young actress with a woman's face and a child's body. Suddenly, the safety and comfort Ryan longs for is replaced by auditions, paparazzi, and the hungry eyes of men of all ages. Forced to reexamine her childhood, Ryan begins to untangle her young fears and her mother's ambitions, and the role each played in the fraught blackout summer of 1977. Even with her movie career long behind her, Ryan and Fiona are suddenly the object of uncomfortable speculation—and Fiona demands Ryan's support. To put the past to rest, Ryan will need to face the painful truth of their relationship, and the night when everything changed.“Magnetic...This knotty story leaves readers reflecting on the limits of family obligations.”–Publishers Weekly

This book reveals the shocking details of the Satanic forces in our world who are currently trying to genocide of children, and how you can claim your own shamanic powers-- your ability to communicate with nature and traverse the magical worlds of power animals, angel-- to fight back. After childhood she set out on a journey to find her mother, did not find her but instead had her own two little girls. She had found peace but then was confronted by her mortal enemy, a woman with a lineage back to Nazi Germany who was determined to steal her children. The story which unfolds is one of extreme loss, unfathomable grief, trips back in time, death-defying risks, magical horses, Snow White Owls, and attacks by demons, witches and corrupt judges and guardians. But Love is the strongest force in the world and the ties between grandmother, mother and daughters were more powerful. It is a journey you will never forget but would never want to live.

- Abstract
This is a wonderful and insightful collection of stories and reflections of mothers on the connection with their own mother after becoming a mother themselves. The chapters are primarily autobiographical and are told through a range of lens, be it a graphic chapter or the more literary. An author outlines Anishinaabeg ceremonial practices that honour and represent maternal connections, and others demonstrate how art and craft can both assist in working through and carry forward maternal stories. Two further pieces use a combination of literary critique, feminist theory and post-Freudian psychoanalysis to interpret varied texts and another highlights findings from a series of interviews with women reflecting on the attributes and practices they will carry forward or discard from their experience of being mothered.

- Abstract
Kathy is a virgin in her twenties trying to navigate the blurred lines between sex and love even as outside forces attempt to detach her from her sexual autonomy. At home, her adoptive mother's eyes investigate her body for evidence of sexual promiscuity and, despite her protests, she is called a putana—a whore—for her perceived sexual debauchery. At work, meanwhile, she is sexually harassed by male managers who slap her butt, tell her they want Greek for lunch (wink, wink), and fill out recommendation forms about her sexy qualities. A young girl on the cusp of womanhood, she encounters a version of herself as men experience her: hypersexualized and objectified. As if this is not enough, Kathy enters the dating scene in search of love only to find herself fending off young men who want her just for sex. In each relationship, Kathy uncovers her own strength and conviction as she fights for the kind of sex she wants instead of the kind of empty sex boys seem to require of girls. The more demands they make, the more determined she is to hold out for love—even if it means losing a guy or going home single and alone. Raw and empowering, The Virgin Chronicles sends the message that love is worth waiting for and sex is better when it's paired with self-actualization.

- Abstract
A story of global travel, personal growth, and family responsibility through the lens of a teenage girl in 1969. Fifteen-year-old Jane was trapped. Trapped in high school in Dallas, Texas where her classes were too easy and her classmates were too conventional. Trapped in service to her mother, a polio survivor who used a wheelchair. When her parents sold their automobile brake-repair business in 1969, they withdrew Jane from her high school to travel the world, visiting India, Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, Yugoslavia and Northern Europe. As she traveled, Jane was pushed to reconcile her dual role as responsible daughter and as teen in the late sixties, the era of Bobby Fischer, The Beatles, and Hair. Because the World is Round reckons with what it means to be an individual, a caretaker, and a traveler in a vast and changing world.

- Abstract
“Mother is Mother, Daughter is Daughter”- A self-recovery guide for all mothers and daughters by a psychoanalytic expert- How mothers can reclaim their lives as an independent women and human beingsWhy do mothers turn more to their daughters than sons when feeling upset or distressed? Why do mothers look upon their happily married daughters with not just pride but a hint of jealousy? Why do daughters, when thinking about their mothers, feel gratitude as well as guilt and resentment? We need to lose our mothers to find ourselves. And we need to find ourselves for our daughters to live their own lives. Woo-ran Park, a psychoanalytic expert who for more than ten years has conducted over 10,000 psychotherapy and dream interpretation sessions, reaches deep into psychology research and case studies to unlock the secret behind the love-hate relationship between mothers and daughters and explain how we can protect our girls from this emotional wounding across generations. Many reasons lie behind the mother's obsession with her daughter and the daughter's inability to break free from this hold. But the author pays particular attention to the female tendency to attain self-realization by meeting the unmet needs of others. Mothers typically see the son or husband as the other and try to satisfy their needs, but when it comes to the daughter, who they see as their equivalent, they're more likely to make demands. Likewise, daughters identify with the mother and see the mother's emotions as her own. This is what makes the mother-daughter relationship so complicated: the daughter is angry at the mother who is full of demands but gives little love, and wants to hate her but can't.This deep psychological bond between the mother and daughter starts to show cracks as they become older, introducing problems, both big and small, into their lives. Feelings of obsession, bitterness, resentment, longing, and gratitude get rolled into one and make the two oscillate between love and hate. In short, the mother and daughter have failed to create a healthy distance between themselves. Then what can we do? Park says we should question the social concept of unconditional motherly love and try to bring to surface the mom's deeply-buried wants and desires as a woman. Only then can we forge a path different from our mother's and our daughters live a different life from our young selves. The author walks us through the main conduits through which the mother's unconscious is passed onto the daughter—emotions, gaze, unmet needs, maternal love, husband—and how we can reclaim ourselves as not just a woman but as a human being. This book will help you to learn the Psychology for Mothers, Daughters and all of women, and recover yourself:Feelings of Guilt, Resentment, and Gratitude - About Female EmotionsDaughters Grow up Feeding on Mother's Emotions - About Mother's EmotionsAm I Really My Child's Mother? - About the Maternal GazeI Wanted to Be Mom's Loving Daughter - About the Mother's Unmet NeedsAll Mothers are Strong? - About Maternal LoveMoms Be Moms, Dads Be Dads - About Our HusbandsMoms are Human Too - About the Mother's RecoveryNOW GET THE BOOK! Twenty years isn't enough to erase the sins of the past—but the future is even more terrifying in this thrilling read perfect for fans of Megan Collins and Julia Heaberlin. In 1997, Eve Foster's daughter, Kelsey, runs away to New Mexico and vanishes without a trace. Eve is convinced that she's the victim of a serial killer who's been hunting women in the region—but Kelsey's body is never found. Years later, Eve dies, leaving everything to her adopted twin daughters. The majority of the wealthy estate in Vermont goes to Lisa, the “good daughter,” while Connie inherits only a small stipend and a property in New Mexico. Connie, often the target of Eve's cruelty, suspects this was another of her mother's vindictive games. Connie arrives in New Mexico to find a small, dilapidated red house in the desert, and the home's mysterious caretaker, Jet Montgomery, living in a shack on the property. She learns there's been a string of women murdered in the area—murders that no one will talk about. Before Connie can get to the truth, her mother's sadistic mind games come creeping back from the grave—and now the danger becomes all too real. With a serial killer on the loose and a trove of deadly secrets coming to the surface, Connie is in a desperate race to save herself and what little is left of her shattered family.

- Abstract
Laughter shakes us out of our deadness. An outburst of spontaneous laughter is an eruption from the unconscious that, like political resistance, poetry, or self-revelation, expresses a provocative, impish drive to burst free from external constraints. Taking laughter's revelatory capacity as a starting point, and rooted in Nuar Alsadir's experience as a poet and psychoanalyst, Animal Joy seeks to recover the sensation of feeling alive and embodied. Writing in a poetic, associative style, blending the personal with the theoretical, Alsadir ranges from her experience in clown school, Anna Karenina's morphine addiction, Freud's unfreudian behaviors, marriage brokers and war brokers to'Not Jokes', Abu Ghraib, Fanon's negrophobia, smut, the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, laugh tracks, the problem with adjectives, to how poetry can wake us up. At the centre of the book, though, is the author's relationship with her daughters, who erupt into the text like sudden, unexpected laughter. These interventions – frank, tender, and always a challenge to the writer and her thinking – are like tiny revolutions, pointedly showing the dangers of being severed from our True Self and hinting at ways we might be called back to it. A bold and insatiably curious prose debut, Animal Joy is an ode to spontaneity and feeling alive.
