In this article, a new procedure is proposed on the basis of Hilbert-Huang Transform and deep learning for cyber-attacks detection in direct current (DC) micro-grids (MGs) as well as detection of the attacks in distributed generation (DG) units and its sensors. An advanced elective group deep learning method with Krill Herd Optimization (KHO) algorithm is proposed. At first, Hilbert-Huang Transform is used with the aim of extracting the signals feature and next these features are applied as the multiple deep input basis models are made with the aim of capturing automatically sentient traits from raw fluctuation signals. At third, to make sure the variety of the basis patterns, linear decoder, denoising autoencoder and sparse autoencoder are applied to make various deep autoencoders, respectively. Further, Bootstrap is applied with the aim of designing separate educational data subsets for any base model. Fourth, for implementing selective ensemble learning, a combination strategy of enhanced weighted voting (EWV) with class-particular thresholds is studied. Eventually, KHO algorithm is applied with the aim of adaptive selecting the optimal class-specific thresholds. In the offered tactic, firstly, a DC micro-grid is functioned and controlled with the lack of any false data injection attacks (FDIAs) to collect adequate information within the usual operation needed for the educating of deep learning networks. It is noteworthy that, in the procedure of datum production, load variable is also determined with the aim of having distinctive datasets for cyber-attack scenarios and load variables. Also, to provide more realistic method, the smart plug-in electric vehicle is also considered in the model. Outcomes of Simulation in various scenarios are applied with the aim of verifying the benefit of the offered procedure. The outcomes propose that the offered procedure is able to more accurate and robust know various type of false data injection attack over than 93.76% accuracy detection of true rate.

Automation in power distribution systems and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), which perform network switching automatically and remotely, allows distribution companies to flexibly control distribution power grids. Cross-section switches also has a significant role in the automation in distribution systems, in that the operational optimization of these switches is able to enhance the supply power quality and reliability indicators, and can be a prosperous solution to increase the reliability, efficiency and overall service quality in services to customers. In this regard, in this work, the genetic optimization algorithm (GOA) approach which integrated the Steepest Descend Technique (SDT) is proposed and enhanced based on the features of the mentioned issue to sketch the optimal location and control of automatic and manual cross-section switches and protection relay systems in distribution power systems. The GOA is able to search globally that can prevent the result from locally convergence, also, GOA gives superior primary solutions for the SDT. Thus, the SDT can search locally with higher performance which increase the solutions' accuracy. Therefore, an optimization formulation is proposed to improve the value-based reliability of the suggested layout considering the cost of customer downtime and the costs related to segmentation of switches and relay protection devices. Also, a distributed generation (DG) system in distribution networks is considered based on the islanded state of generation units. The effectiveness of the optimal suggested procedure is evaluated and represented via performing a practical test system in the distribution network of Ahvaz city in Iran. The results show that using proposed method and by optimally allocating switches maneuver, energy losses without switches are reduced from 310.17 (MWh) to 254.2 (MWh), and also by using DG, losses are reduced from 554.01 to 533.61 which confirms the ability and higher accuracy of the proposed method to improve reliability indices.

Since Smart-Islands (SIs) with advanced cyber-infrastructure are incredibly vulnerable to cyber-attacks, increasing attention needs to be applied to their cyber-security. False data injection attacks (FDIAs) by manipulating measurements may cause wrong state estimation (SE) solutions or interfere with the central control system performance. There is a possibility that conventional attack detection methods do not detect many cyber-attacks; hence, system operation can interfere. Research works are more focused on detecting cyber-attacks that target DC-SE; however, due to more widely uses of AC SIs, investigation on cyber-attack detection in AC systems is more crucial. In these regards, a new mechanism to detect injection of any false data in AC-SE based on signal processing technique is proposed in this paper. Malicious data injection in the state vectors may cause deviation of their temporal and spatial data correlations from their ordinary operation. The suggested detection method is based on analyzing temporally consecutive system states via wavelet singular entropy (WSE). In this method, to adjust singular value matrices and wavelet transforms' detailed coefficients, switching surface based on sliding mode controller are decomposed; then, by applying the stochastic process, expected entropy values are calculated. Indices are characterized based on the WSE in switching level of current and voltage for cyber-attack detection. The proposed detection method is applied to different case studies to detect cyber-attacks with various types of false data injection, such as amplitude, and vector deviation signals. The simulation results confirm the high-performance capability of the proposed FDIA detection method. This detection method's significant characteristic is its ability in fast detection (10 ms from the attack initiation); besides, this technique can achieve an accuracy rate of over 96.5%.

To control a smart-island (which comprises three distributed generation (DG) units with their autonomous converters), based on a nonlinear backstepping control (BSC) scheme, an adaptive reference signal, and a state observer are designed to improve the steady-state performance of the system. An adaptive reference value has been designed and used instead of a constant reference signal to improve the system's steady-state performance, e.g., total harmonic distortion (THD), peak value, and effective value in the voltage control mode. The presented adaptive reference is changed based on the error between the reference signal and the output voltage signal to tend the error to zero. Compared to the classical backstepping controllers, the reference signal is pursued with a fast response and a low steady-state of loads alternations. To demonstrate the efficiency, authenticity, and compatibility of the proposed control strategy, offline digital time-domain simulation studies are carried out on a master-slave organized inverter-based microgrids in various load variations like linear and nonlinear loads in MATLAB/Simulink software environment. The obtained results are compared with previously reported techniques. Moreover, the obtained simulation results are verified by performing laboratory-based experimental tests based on digital signal processing (DSP), which validate the proposed control strategy's accuracy, authenticity, and effectiveness under different conditions.

This paper investigates the false data injection attacks (FDIA) in an AC smart island and the detection solution of the attack on distributed energy resources in a smart island. In this study, a new scheme of FDIA detection is proposed based on wavelet singular values as input index of deep learning algorithm. In the proposed method, switching surface based on sliding mode control breaks down for adjusting accurate factors of wavelet transform and then features of wavelet coefficients are extracted by singular value decomposition. Indexes are determined according to the wavelet singular values in switching surface of voltage and current which defines the input indexes of deep machine learning and detecting FDIA. This cyber-protection plan has been put forward for cyber diagnostic and examined in different types of attacks happening in voltage and current signals derivation of measuring sensors as well as sending and receiving data from communication and control systems. The main priority of the suggested detection plan is the high capability to detect FDIA with a high accuracy. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulation studies are performed on AC smart island in MATLAB/Simulink environment.

Due to the widespread use of electric motors in various industries, it is very important to have optimally designed motors in that they have high efficiency and lower negative effects on the quality of the power grid. Therefore, in this paper, the effects of winding type (wide and concentrated) on ripple torque in internal permanent magnet motor (IPMM) are investigated. In order to reduce the ripple torque and to increase the average torque, by making optimal holes in the rotor surface and using the sensitivity analysis method, the structure of the IPMM is improved. In this method, the number, dimensions and location of holes are optimized using the sensitivity analysis approach, which reduces the ripple torque of the motor. Using a concentrated winding instead of a wide winding, the toothed ripple torque is reduced by approximately 75% while maintaining the average torque value. Also, by making holes in the rotor surface and optimizing them using the finite element technique and sensitivity analysis, it is demonstrated that the amount of ripple torque by 20%. In the proposed approach, it is proved that in the concentrated winding, in addition to reducing the spatial harmonics, the average amount of torque can also be improved. Obtained results of the simulation confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The microgrid (MG) is a complicated cyber-physical system that operates based on interactions between physical processes and computational components, which make it vulnerable to varied cyber-attacks. In this article, the impact of data integrity attack (DIA) has been considered, as one of the most dangerous cyber threats to MGs, on the steady-state operation of hybrid microgrids (HMGs). Additionally, a novel method based on the sequential hypothesis testing approach is proposed to detect DIA on the renewable energy sources’ metering infrastructure and improve the data security within the HMGs. The proposed method generates a binary sample, which is used to compute a test statistic that is further used against two thresholds to decide among three alternatives. The performance of the suggested method is examined using an IEEE standard test system. The results illustrated the acceptable performance of the proposed methodology in detection of DIAs. In addition, to evaluate the effect of DIA on the operation of the HMGs, DIAs with different severities are launched on the measured power generation of renewable energy resources like wind turbines. The results showed that a successful DIA on renewable units can severely affect the operation of electric grids and cause serious damage.

The fault detection method (FDM) plays a crucial role in controlling and operating microgrids (MGs), because it allows for systems to rapidly isolate and restore faults. Due to the fact that MGs use inverter-interfaced distributed production, conventional FDMs are no longer appropriate because they are dependent on substantial fault currents. This study presents a smart FDM for MGs based on the Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT) and deep neural networks (DNNs). The suggested layout aims to prepare the fast detection of fault kind, phase, and place data to protect MGs and restore services. The HHT pre-processes the branch current measurements obtained from the protective relays to extract the characteristics, and singular value decomposition (SVD) is used to extract some features from intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) that are obtained from HHT to use as input of DNNs. As part of the fault data development, all the information eventually enters the DNNs. Compared with prior studies, this suggested method provides considerably superior fault-type identification accuracy. It is also possible to determine new fault locations. A detailed assessment analysis of this suggested FDM was conducted on IEEE 34-bus and MG systems to demonstrate its effectiveness. The simulations indicated that the proposed method is effective for detecting precision, computing time, and robustness to measurement uncertainties.

Optimal design, control and management of distributed generations (DGs) such as wind, photovoltaic (PV), and diesel generators can increase the system stability and resilience of the future smart microgrids (MGs). Also, the integration of wind and solar energy can reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. However, the control, sizing and placement of DG in the power system poses a significant challenge. This study proposes a multi-objective Gray Wolf optimization (MOGWO) model for optimal placement of DG in a smart MG. The objectives include minimizing the economic costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and pollution of the entire system. The IEEE 30 system is used to validate the proposed model. Simulation outcomes show that the suggested plan is cost effective and can find the optimal DG placement with the minimum air pollution.

Qualitative advancement in DC microgrids (MGs) has provided the use of various loads with special conditions and characteristics in the power grid. Optimal control of such grids requires the introduction of new tools and methods in the fields of power electronics. In this research work, by merging sliding mode and backstepping control approaches, the stability of DC-MG system using boost converter and constant power load (CPL) with nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) is guaranteed. In this regards, first, the linear model of the canonical brunovsky form of the system is extracted to solve the problem of nonlinearity of the system, due to the existence of CPL and the problem of non-minimum phase of the boost converter. Then, using a nonlinear observer, the disturbance is estimated. Also, by combining sliding mode control and backstepping control, the desired control technique is implemented, and the overall stability of the system is achieved. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed stabilizing technique, the simulation is performed in MATLAB software package and the results confirm the superiority of dynamic proficiency and higher robustness of the suggested controller compared to other controllers.

Today, in various leading power utilities in developing countries, achieving optimal operational energy management and planning, taking into account the costs reduction of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, and also reducing the emission of an environmental pollutant becomes more and more important. Optimal use of renewable energy sources (RESs) is an effective way to achieve these goals. In this regard, in this research article, an improved multi-objective differential evolutionary (IMODE) optimization algorithm is suggested and performed to dispatch electricity generations in a smart microgrid (MG) system, taking into account economy and emission as competitive issues. In this paper, a nonlinear equation of multi-objective optimization issue with various equality and inequality limitations is formulated in order to lower the total operational costs of the MG considering environmental pollution effects simultaneously. In order to address the issue of optimal operation of the MG in single-objective and multi-objective forms, an intelligent method according to the improved differential evolutionary (IDE) optimization is utilized and performed and the proposed algorithm is implemented on different problems. First, it is assumed that there is no limit to the exchange of power overhead, and secondly, the limitation of power exchange with the upstream grid is considered. In multi-objective mode, these two modes are also considered. In order to show the impact of renewable energy on the cost, in the third part of the simulations, the operation is solved with maximum participation of renewable energy sources. In the final section, the sensitivity analysis on the number of populations in this problem is performed. The obtained results of the simulation are compared to differential evolutionary (DE) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques. The effectiveness of the suggested multi-operational energy management method is confirmed by applying a study case system.

In this study, an auxiliary damping controller based on a robust controller considering the active and reactive power control loops for a doubly-fed induction generator for wind farms is proposed. The presented controller is able to improve the inter-area oscillation damping. In addition, the proposed controller applies only one accessible local signal as the input; however, it can improve the inter-area oscillation damping and, consequently the system stability for the various working conditions and uncertainties. The oscillatory modes of the system are appointed using the linear analysis. Then, the controller’s parameters are determined using the robust control approaches ($${H}_{\infty }/{H}_{2})$$ H ∞ / H 2 ) with the pole placement and linear matrix inequality method. The results of the modal analysis and time-domain simulations confirm that the controller develops the inter-area oscillation damping under the various working conditions and uncertainties.

In Smart Island (SI) systems, operators of power distribution system usually utilize actual-time measurement information as the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to have an accurate, efficient, advanced control and monitor of whole their system. SI system can be vulnerable to complicated information integrity attacks such as False Data Injection Attack (FDIA) on some equipment including sensors and controllers, which can generate misleading operational decision in the system. Hence, lack of detailed research in the evaluation of power system that links the FDIAs with system stability is felt, and it will be important for both assessment of the effect of cyber-attack and taking preventive protection measures. In this regards, time-frequency-based differential approach is proposed for SI cyber-attack detection according to non-stationary signal assessment. In this paper, non-stationary signal processing approach of Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is performed for the FDIA detection in several case studies. Since various critical case studies with a small FDIA in data where accurate and efficient detection can be a challenge, the simulation results confirm the efficiency of HHT approach and the proposed detection frame is compared with shallow model. In this research, the configuration of the SI test case is developed in the MATLAB software with several Distributed Generations (DGs). As a result, it is found that the HHT approach is completely efficient and reliable for FDIA detection target in AC-SI. The simulation results verify that the proposed model is able to achieve accuracy rate of 93.17% and can detect FDIAs less than 50 ms from cyber-attack starting in different kind of scenarios.

Nowadays, the role of cyber-physical systems (CPSs) is of paramount importance in power system security since they are more vulnerable to different cyber-attacks. Detection of cyber-attacks on a direct current microgrid (DC-MG) has become a pivotal issue due to the increasing use of them in various electrical engineering applications, from renewable power generations to the distribution of electricity and power system of public transportation and subway electric network. In this study, a novel strategy was provided to diagnose possible false data injection attacks (FDIA) in DC-MGs to enhance the cyber-security of electrical systems. Accordingly, to diagnose cyber-attacks in DC-MG and to identify the FDIA to distributed energy resource (DER) unit, a new procedure of wavelet transform (WT) and singular value decomposition (SVD) based on deep machine learning was proposed. Additionally, this paper presents a developed selective ensemble deep learning (DL) approach using the gray wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm to identify the FDIA in DC-MG. In the first stage, in the paper, to gather sufficient data within the ordinary performance required for the training of the DL network, a DC-MG was operated and controlled with no FDIAs. In the information generation procedure, load changing was considered to have diagnosing datasets for cyber-attack and load variation schemes. The obtained simulation results were compared with the new Shallow model and Hilbert Huang Transform methods, and the results confirmed that the presented approach could more precisely and robustly identify multiple forms of FDIAs with more than 95% precision.

This study proposes a novel secured management method for renewable microgrids considering the policies required for diagnosing cyber-attacks happening in the communication networks, usually applied in the secondary control layer of microgrids (MGs). Due to the so long stochastic and bad information entering the systems in order to make malicious attacks, their location and time data links have the ability of straying of those acting in normal conditions that attempt to have an effect on the precise voltage regulation and current dividing via influencing sensors of current and voltage. The ability to extract high-level features due to the usage of fast fourier transform (FFT) and deep learning (DL) for attack detection in cyberspace has made them to be considered as a strong technique in the face of small mutations or new attacks. These self-educated and compaction abilities of DL architectures have been considered as basic techniques for hidden scheme detection from the training datum for this reason attacks have been distinguished from benign traffic. A novel method, deep learning and FFT, for cyber-security has been used in the following paper with the aim of enabling the attacks detection in DC smart MG. The deep model and traditional machine learning way are evaluated in terms of performance, and distributed attack detection has been compared to the centralized diagnosing procedure. The tests proved that the distributed attack detection system studied can be more advanced in comparison with centralized detection systems applying FFT in the role of the input index of the DL model. This suggested distributed method enables for scalable monitoring of a MG and has the ability of detecting the existence of cyber-attacks in the communications between distributed generation agents (DGAs) controlled via a control on the basis of consensus and isolating the communication link over that the attack has been injected. Any local attack detection needs restricted information about its neighbor’s dynamics. The most important factor of the proposed detection plan can be that has the ability of detecting cyber-attacks with great precision and distinguishing cyber-attack from load changes.in addition, this has been shown that the suggested model can be further useful in the detection of the attack.

Cyber-physical threats as false data injection attacks (FDIAs) in islanded smart microgrids (ISMGs) are typical accretion attacks, which need urgent consideration. In this regard, this paper proposes a novel cyber-attack detection model to detect FDIAs based on singular value decomposition (SVD) and fast Fourier transform (FFT). Since new research are mostly focusing on FDIAs detection in DC systems, paying attention to AC systems attack detection is also necessary, hence, AC state estimation (SE) have been used in SI analysis and in considering renewable energy sources effect. Whenever malicious data are added into the system state vectors, vectors’ temporal and spatial datum relations might drift from usual operating conditions. In this approach, switching surface based on sliding mode controllers is dialyzed to regulate detailed FFT’s coefficients to calculate singular values. Indexes are determined according to the composition of FFT and SVD in voltage/current switching surface to distinguish the potential cyber-attack. This protection layout is presented for cyber-attack detection and is studied in various types of FDIA forms like amplitude and vector derivation of signals, which exchanged between agents such as smart sensor, control units, smart loads, etc. The prominent advantage of the proposed detection layout is to reduce the time (less than 10 milliseconds from the attack outset) in several kinds of case studies. The proposed method can detect more than 96% accuracy from 2967 sample tests. The performances of the method are carried out on AC-ISMG in MATLAB/Simulink environment.

Sectionalizing switches (SSs) have been installed in Distribution networks with the aim of providing maneuver and ring points, so raising service reliability. It is usually assumed that these switches are totally reliable although, in practice, they have not ideal efficiency at all times. In fact, the switches might occasionally face failure, which decreases their capability with the aim of enhancing system reliability. A model with the aim of considering the failure probability of the switches in their optimal placement issue is proposed in this paper. The model aids with the aim of minimizing the whole costs of SSs and the interruption costs incurred through interrupted users. This study uses the discrete Markov chain model with the aim of obtaining the malfunction possibility under various states. Afterwards, the placement problem is solved with the aim of obtaining the global optimal solution with genetic algorithm. The advantage of the suggested model has been investigated according to sensitivity analysis and various scenarios. The research illustrates how the outcomes of the placement issue have been influenced through the uncertainty arising from the possible failure of the switches and how ignoring the uncertainty is able to cause deviation of the anticipated profit from the real one. The efficiency of the suggested procedure has been evaluated and shown through investigating on the Ahwaz city distribution network. The outcomes of simulation prove the ability and precision of the suggested procedure.

Smart Island (SI) refers to the condition where distributed generation (DG) units e.g. wind turbines (WT), fuel cell (FC), and photovoltaic cells (PV) have to control current, voltage, and frequency of the grid by themselves without any support from the main grid. Therefore, design and implementation of robust controller to overcome disturbances and load variations is very crucial. This paper presents a new approach using General Type-II Fuzzy controller to control smart island in combination with a novel modified optimization algorithm to increase the load sharing throughout the DGs operating in an islanding mode. This case study assumes that there are two DGs in the smart island where each DG has its own responsibilities. In particular, one of the DGs regulates the frequency and voltage based on a reference feedback, while the other DG operates in load current control mode to share load between each DG properly. The simulation results indicate that the suggested controller has a quick response to load alternations with a low steady state error and low THD. Moreover, the proposed controller is independent from system states and other units. The experimental analysis indicate that the suggested control system is effectively capable to coordinate the operations of the DG units in smart island to validate the stable operation of the overall smart island.

In islanding Micro-Grids (MGs), distributed generation units are in charge of controlling voltage, frequency, and current of the grid on their own without any assistance from the main grid. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to select and design a controller that is robust against disturbances and load variations. In this study, a new sliding mode controller with a rotating reference voltage algorithm is proposed which improves the load sharing between distributed generators (DGs) in an islanded mode MG. In the proposed algorithm, the amplitude of the reference voltage signal of the controller is adaptively modified to improve the performance and convergence rate of the controller. As a case study, the proposed strategy is studied based on the assumption that there are three DGs in the grid. One of the DGs is in charge of regulating voltage and frequency based on a reference signals, and the two other DGs are responsible for load sharing and loads current control mode. The MG under study consists of three low voltage distributed generation units operating in parallel mode. In order to have a realistic case study, it is assumed that the MG consists of different types of loads such as resistive, inductive and nonlinear loads. Extensive simulations carried out in MATLAB environment indicate that the proposed framework is able to provide more desirable total harmonic distortion (THD), lower steady state error, and faster response compared with classic sliding mode controllers.

This paper proposes a new method of fault detection and classification in asymmetrical distribution systems with dispersed generation to detect islanding and perform protective action based on applying a combination of wavelet singular entropy and fuzzy logic. In this method, positive components of currents at common coupling points are decomposed to adjust detailed coefficients of wavelet transforms and singular value matrices, and expected entropy values are calculated via stochastic process. Indexes are defined based on the wavelet singular entropy in positive components and three phase currents to detect and classify the fault. This protection scheme is put forward for fault detection and is investigated in different types of faults such as single-phase to ground, double-phase to ground, three-phase to ground and line to line in distribution lines in the presence of distributed generations, and different locations of faults are verified when the distributed generation is connected to the utility. The major priority of the proposed protection scheme is its reduction in time (10 ms from the event inception) in distinguishing islanding and protection transmission lines in the presence of distributed generations.

Using blockchain technology as one of the new methods to enhance the cyber and physical security of power systems has grown in importance over the past few years. Blockchain can also be used to improve social welfare and provide sustainable energy for consumers. In this article, the effect of distributed generation (DG) resources on the transmission power lines and consequently fixing its conjunction and reaching the optimal goals and policies of this issue to exploit these resources is investigated. In order to evaluate the system security level, a false data injection attack (FDIA) is launched on the information exchanged between independent system operation (ISO) and under-operating agents. The results are analyzed based on the cyber-attack, wherein the loss of network stability as well as economic losses to the operator would be the outcomes. It is demonstrated that cyber-attacks can cause the operation of distributed production resources to not be carried out correctly and the network conjunction will fall to a large extent, with the elimination of social welfare, the main goals and policies of an independent system operator as an upstream entity are not fulfilled. Besides, the contracts between independent system operators with distributed production resources are not properly closed. In order to stop malicious attacks, a secured policy architecture based on blockchain is developed to keep the security of the data exchanged between ISO and under-operating agents. The obtained results of the simulation confirm the effectiveness of using blockchain to enhance the social welfare for power system users. Besides, it is demonstrated that ISO can modify its polices and use the potential and benefits of distributed generation units to increase social welfare and reduce line density by concluding contracts in accordance with the production values given.

In current study, in order to find the control of general uncertain nonlinear systems, a new optimal hybrid control approach called Optimal General Type II Fuzzy Sliding Mode (OGT2FSM) is presented. In order to estimate unknown nonlinear activities in monitoring dynamic uncertainties, the benefits of general type-2 fuzzy logic systems (GT2FLS) is utilized by the suggested controller. The suggested controller not only warranties the constancy and hardiness against uncertainties of the lumped resulted by external disturbances and un-modeled dynamics, but also considerably decreases the control chattering inherent in traditional sliding mode control. Moreover, the Modified Backtracking Search Algorithm (MBSA), which is a new heuristic algorithm, is used in the offered controller. A comparison is performed between the results of current study and the results of some of the most recent studies on the same topic, which are an Adaptive Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controller (AGT2FLC) and Conventional Sliding Mode Controller (CSMC), to assess the efficiency of the suggested controller. The suggested control scheme is finally used to the Electric Vehicles type as a case study. Results of simulation confirm the good performance the suggested controller.

Microturbine-generator is suitable for different distributed generation applications. Due to its high speed, it is necessary to use a frequency converter to deliver the power at 50/60Hz. In this paper, application of Matrix Converter as microturbine-generator interface converter is addressed. In this way, the interface converter becomes more compact due to omission of dc link capacitor (common in rectifier-inverter interface structure). Also, it is shown by the simulation results that by using matrix converter, quality of the output voltage is enhanced.

In this paper, an indirect adaptive sliding mode controller has been designed to control distribution static compensator to improve power quality in a three-phase distribution network. Steady-state error flow control compensator is reduced using the proposed controller. The proposed control strategy is more resistant compared to disturbances in the transient and steady state. The controller is used in frame of Βα rotating reference. Using an observer for estimating parameters, the controller performance has been improved. The accuracy of controller performance has been proven in the software package of MATLAB.
