Abstract

The paper presents the data of optical microscopy of aluminum cast alloy ER4043 fabricated by wire-feed electron-beam additive manufacturing (WEBAM) and samples of composite material made by simultaneous double-wire feed EBAM with the introduction of 5% and 10% of the nickel alloy Udimet-500. The data obtained testify to the complex and heterogeneous structure organization in composite materials made of dissimilar metals with different melting temperatures and densities. The data indicate the presence of non-melting nickel alloy on one side and overheating of aluminum alloy on the other side. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This work obtained a hardened surface layer on the surface of 4Cr9Si2 steel in the process of additive electron beam 3D-printing with the combination of wire and powder feeding of the material into the printing zone. It is revealed that tungsten particles after printing are located mainly in the interdendritic space of the steel. A number of macroscopic inhomogeneities are present in the layer volume. A small-sized transition zone with a mixed structure is formed along the contour of fine powder particles. The orientation of growing dendrites both in the base metal and in the hardened layer has a pronounced direction in the direction of heat removal from the melt bath of each layer. Abstract

The laser induced damage thresholds of ZnGeP2 single crystals are determined. The values of the thresholds under the action of laser radiation at a wavelength of 2,097 μm, pulse repetition frequency of 10 kHz, and pulse duration of 35 ns are W0d =1.8 J/cm2 and W0d =2.1 J/cm2 for crystals manufactured by LOK LLC, Russia and the Harbin Institute of Technology, China, respectively. The effect of post-growth processing of ZnGeP2 single crystals (polishing of working surfaces, deposition of antireflection interference coatings) on the laser induced damage thresholds of the surfaces of these crystals has been studied. It was established that the presence of silicon conglomerates in an interference antireflection coating leads to a decrease in the laser induced damage threshold. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A study of the mechanical properties and mechanical behavior characteristics during quasi-static tensile tests was carried out for a microstructural Mg-Mn-Ce system magnesium alloy obtained by cyclic groove pressing in the presented experimental work. The material average grain size refining from 9 to 2.5 µm led to increasing of the yield strength by 30%, and the ultimate strength by 17%. Structural changes also contribute to the activation of additional slip systems, which improves the ultimate strain to failure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
